EP207: Beauty Beyond Age with Laura Geller18 Apr 202500:37:48

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

Fearlessly Facing FACING our FUTURE FACES!

What happens when a Broadway makeup artist discovers her true passion lies in making everyday women feel beautiful? Laura Geller's remarkable journey from theater makeup to beauty mogul reveals the power of authenticity and the magic that unfolds when passion meets purpose.

Laura shares the pivotal moment that changed everything - working one-on-one with real women at a makeup counter and watching them transform not just physically but emotionally. "I'd see them starting to come alive as I would make up their face...holding their head up higher," she explains. This spark ignited a business that would eventually take her to QVC, where she amazingly sold 750 units in just six minutes during her first appearance.

The conversation takes a fascinating turn as Laura discusses her decision to focus specifically on women over 40, a demographic often overlooked in the beauty industry. Drawing from her own experiences with aging skin, Laura developed products addressing the unique needs of mature women while keeping application simple. Her authenticity shines through as she admits she didn't always have the business acumen needed, setting prices too low initially, but learned and adapted along the way.

Most poignant is Laura's passion for women's stories and her mission to champion them at every age. When asked how her son views her, Laura's answer is immediate: "He would tell you that I'm a badass." Her parting wisdom resonates deeply: "Don't be in a rush. Good things take time...stay in your lane." In a world obsessed with youth and instant success, Laura Geller stands as living proof that embracing your authentic self and serving others with genuine care creates enduring impact.

Fearlessly Facing FUNDRAISING! I love sharing incredible stories of amazing people - and at this stage of life we often find ourselves with a bit more bandwidth. And maybe this story and this incredible organization will ignite something in you. Meet Casey Baynes, Founder of The Casey Cares Foundation.

Casey Baynes founded Casey Cares Foundation at age 21 after hearing a child say "I wish I had cancer" while volunteering at a hospital, recognizing the need to support ALL critically ill children regardless of diagnosis.

• Founded over 25 years ago, Casey Cares has helped over half a million critically ill children
• Unlike traditional wish organizations, provides ongoing support throughout treatment journey rather than one-time experiences
• Focuses on entire family unit including parents and siblings who are often overlooked
• Creates normalcy through simple activities like movie and pizza nights, pajama deliveries, and group events
• Offers palliative care approach that improves treatment outcomes by up to 70%
• Continues supporting families after treatment ends, including bereavement services
• Every 12 minutes, Casey Cares helps a participant in their program
• Annual "Biggest Pajama Party" on April 16th raises awareness and collects pajamas for hospitalized children
• Operates primarily east of the Mississippi with headquarters in Baltimore
• Small contributions and volunteer efforts make meaningful differences - "It doesn't take a lot of zeros to give back"

Visit caseycares.org to learn how you can help critically ill children and their families through volunteering, donating, or connecting them with Casey Cares services.

EP 99: Age is NOT just a number. Meet two women who do not let age define them16 Apr 202100:29:25

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

Age is NOT just a number.  Amen!

Are you ready to grow up and not grow old?   Today's episode will inspire you to #cannonballwithconfidence. Listen in as two award-winning ad creatives talk about launching their #AgeisNOTjustaNumber video campaign -- an "Age Anthem" tackling ageism head-on.  I was part of the campaign and loved every minute of it - you can watch it here.

If you believe that “age doesn’t define you, that substance is the new sexy, and in kicking ass instead of sitting on it,”  meet Susan Lee Colby and Kathy Sjogren.  After “aging out” of the youth-obsessed ad industry, the two friends co-founded Grace Creative, an agency specializing in marketing to women over 50.

We talk about relationships a lot on the Fearlessly Facing Fifty podcast, and  today's episode is a special one.  I interviewed my Mother-in-law months ago sitting around the kitchen table.  I value her advice and wisdom.  I received this note from a listener when I advertised that this episode would air.  Here is what she wrote:  How blessed we are, how fortunate we've been that you are his mother and also my friend.

Cheers to you, Doreen Schmidt, AKA Grandma Do.  You are an inspiration to so many - Happy 80th birthday.

Your words of wisdom will always be treasured.

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

Dr. Valena Wright has specialized in gynecologic oncology for the past 25 years. When her sister, Debbie, received a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, she gained a new perspective on what patients and their families go through throughout the process.

Unfortunately, her sister died from ovarian cancer, but Wright used this opportunity to teach others what can be learned from her sister’s experience by writing her book “It’s Time You Knew.” In the book, Wright speaks with her own patients about their cancer journeys, discusses major takeaways from their experiences and explores ways to potentially reduce their risk for cancer, among other topics.

EP 94: Food can change your life with Kristen Coffield19 Mar 202100:46:51

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

What a great way to jump start spring... with an inspirational and motivational interview with Kristen  Coffield, founder of the Culinary Cure website and She is It Facebook page, both dedicated to helping women over 50 live their best  life.

I caught up with Kristen to find out how it all started, believe me this interview will boost your mind, body and soul…and will make you think about the choices we have at the end of our fork.

Kristen developed resilience at my lowest point. Her seemingly perfect life fell apart when things beyond my control sent me into a downward spiral. She was diagnosed with cancer, fighting depression, in debt, struggling in her marriage, and trying to maintain a “normal” life for her family.

By letting go of things I couldn’t control I was able to free up space for things I could. I doubled down on the power of food to detox my life, strengthen my body, and fuel my dreams. One bite at a time, I created a life of passion and purpose.

I took the simple daily habit of eating, made it a superpower, and changed my future.

Food changed my life, and it can change yours, too!

Reach out to Kristen here and purchase her new book: How healthy people eat

Today I have a conversation with  New York City real estate powerhouse Holly Parker. Holly is with Douglas Elliman, NYC’s premiere luxury residential brokerage and has nearly 8 billion in sales.  As you will learn through the interview, Holly is smart, a rock star networker, and made the combo of grit, grace and being sensitive work. Holly has been selling high-end properties for 20 years and along the way she has figured out that real estate is a lot like life, and life is a lot like real estate.  After 7 years of marriage, Holly found herself “falling out of contract” and dreaded being a newly divorced woman who was “back on the market”. This experience inspired her to write her first book, back on the market: A Realtor’s Guide to Love and Life. In this interview, Holly shares the pain of her divorce, the triumph of her second marriage, and the secrets to finding herself. And now as a wife and mom to twin boys...life is precious and Holly realized that loving herself and caring for herself is now a priority.

EP 90: The challenge. Who am I?25 Feb 202100:03:04

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

There are so many times in a woman's life when this question comes to mind.  Who am I?  And of course it evolves over time.  And it also is something very difficult for many women to articulate.  They tend to undervalue themselves.

My challenge to you is to be brave.  To be bold...and most importantly be you!  Send in you 30 second video answering this question.  Here is the link to submit

Who am I?

"Simply begin with your name.  I am Amy.  I am a wife, mom, sister, daughter and friend to many.  I am a business owner, author and podcast host, but most importantly
I am strong.  I am confident.  I am brave.  I am fulfilled."

Come as you are....in your sweats or your pjs...or your fanciest outfit....it doesn't matter!

Just come feeling confident in who you are and the value you bring to yourself and others.

I can't wait to see you and listen to your videos!

How about traveling to Tanzania at 85 and then to Iceland at 90?  Meet Persis Laverack...a 93 year -old woman who will share her insight and pearls with all of us.  Think of this as one of those amazing fireside chats with Roosevelt.  This conversation will leave you inspired.

Age is just a number!

Meet Persis ... She just turned 93!
She's taking her daily 2 mile walk!  Persis drives her new 2020 pearl white Subaru to wherever she wants to go, pops the hatchback, pulls out her walker and off she goes!
Persis is a woman who keeps busy. She defies the myths  - she's on social media, she texts and she Zooms. And yes - there's the 2 mile daily walks.

I feel honored to have spent 30 minutes talking with a woman who has so much knowledge and advice to share.  We talk about life, relationships, marriage, grief and of course, COVID.

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

What would your life be like if you consciously changed an angry thought into a loving one?

This is the mission behind the Choose Love Movement which was founded by Scarlett Lewis  after tragically losing her son on December 14, 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

As I talked with Scarlett, she shared how the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement started the day of Jesse's funeral to honor her son, and to spread a message he left on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died.  Nurturing. Healing. Love!  Three powerful words.  The formula for choosing love is #courage #gratitude #forgiveness #compassion.  Choosing love in any situation....and boy how we need that formula in our lives right now.

You can find out more about the Choose Love Movement here by viewing their website.  All of the materials and resources are free.  Scarlett and I will be working together in the coming months with the Fearlessly Facing Fifty community - so stay tuned.

Thank you Scarlett Lewis for sharing your insight and inspiration.  You are a treasure.

EP 82: Don't get in your own way. A conversation with Molly Fay07 Jan 202100:36:12

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

How often do we get stuck because we can't get out of our own way?  Or we get stopped in fear because stress and anxiety are part of our cadence?  A wise friend once said, "We can have it all....just not all at once."

In today's episode I have a conversation with the incredible Molly Fay.  Molly is the Co-Host of  TMJ4 The Morning Blend.  My path crossed with Molly last year, and we became fast friends.  Her story is inspiring, and she admits that she doesn't always have it all together, but she has learned over time to make herself a priority.  Molly shares her insight and wisdom in an episode you don't want to miss.  Being on TV comes with challenges, but when fear comes up, she gets out her toolkit for self-care which she will talk about in the episode.

Being on TV comes with challenges, but when fear comes up, she gets out her toolkit for self-care which she will talk about in the episode.  Managing work/life balance and being a good Mom, wife, steward of her faith and friend are top of her list, and she will discuss ways in which she works hard to do her very best but allows herself the gift of grace when things don’t go just right.

Chicago native Molly Fay didn't expect to host a talk show. But the former investigative journalist, mother of three and self-described introvert, found herself doing just that eight years ago when WTMJ-4 launched "The Morning Blend," and she hasn't looked back. You can find Molly and her Co-Host, Tiffany here which streams daily.

EP 80: Bladder health at midlife with Lisa King09 Dec 202000:30:56

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

Let's be honest, there are so many times as women we have questions that are tough to ask, right?  Bladder health is one of those topics.  Whether it's recurring UTI's, leaky bladder, incontinence, painful bladder, there are so many times we shy away from asking for fear of being embarrassed.  At times we suffer unknowingly, and don't reach out for help.

That’s exactly the situation that Lisa King found herself in when she was missing out on her kid’s sports activities. She was terrified to attend business events with her husband and could spend days or weeks physically unable to move for the pain.

Doctors brushed Lisa off as having standard Urinary Tract Infections.  It took her almost 8 years to receive an official diagnosis for Interstitial Cystitis. Sadly, this timeframe for diagnosis is an inside joke as so many women face the same difficulties of diagnosis.

Once Lisa finally knew what was causing her so much pain, she could start taking steps to alleviate it, or so she thought. But the journey was longer and harder than anticipated. With very little support, and suffering from a condition that caused embarrassment and social awkwardness that people just didn’t talk about, it took her a lot of figuring out.

Lisa King has been a pharmacist for over 30 years and has a wealth of experience and knowledge on what does and doesn’t work for treating the symptoms of the condition, and she’s here to share that with us today.  Lisa is a wellness consultant and best selling author,

Listen in for Lisa’s tips to boost your immune system, heal your gut, foods to eat or avoid, and create a life free from bladder pain.

You can reach out to Lisa  here to purchase her book and reach out to her personally.

EP 76: Finding your confidence around finances with Patty Bonsera19 Nov 202000:37:13

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

When we start to talk about finances I can feel my face becoming red and flushed.  I will admit I'm a work in progress around managing money and today this episode will shed a light around how you can become more confidence when it comes to your finances.

Meet Patty Bonsera, a  Certified Financial Educator (CFEI), Financial Wellness Advisor and Coach. She's been married, divorced, spent 11 years as a single mom and later remarried. She's  experienced income inequality, worked for a firm that was later indicted in securities fraud (unbeknownst to employees), gave her financial power away to my spouse, (eventually took it back), and lost pretty much everything after 2008 (while hiding all the shame from family) and rebuilt my life.

Over time, after confiding in close girlfriends, she discovered she wasn't alone and came to this overwhelming feeling that she needed to do something about it. That's when her own midlife reinvention started and she came over to personal finance and how Fear.less Girl Financial was born.

This industry needs a makeover and midlife women will not be ignored.

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

When I set out to launch my podcast I did the usual market research involved in taking those next steps.  During that outreach I came across the incredible Mary Rogers, host of the Experience 50 podcast.

From our first conversation it was as though we'd known each other for years.  She is a kind, smart, articulate woman with a passion for all things midlife.  Some may remember her from Mary in the morning on a Detroit radio station.  I refer to her as a trailblazer.  One of the first to enter the podcast arena as a midlife podcaster.

Mary K. Rogers has served as leadership staff of two Chambers of Commerce, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and the Small Business Administration’s Michigan Small Business Development Center. She sold her company, Marigold Women in Business to a division of Pepsi in 2009. She is now self-employed, hosting The Experience 50 Podcast for Midlife.

EP 65: All the right mistakes with Laura Jamison12 Oct 202000:31:36

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

I never set out to be a writer. But I was always a terrific reader. Those words are directly from first time author, Laura Jamison.  Laura just completed her first novel, "All the right mistakes."  Today we talk about her journey - her life as an attorney and mom of 4, and balancing all the challenges of life at this stage....

At the ripe old age of 41, I began work on my first novel. I hadn’t written a word of fiction since middle school (at least not that I can remember). I was visiting my parents when the idea for the book came to me. I read a news item that another high-flying woman was writing a book about how women could architect their lives to be successful. Here we go again, I thought. Another book geared toward telling women, not institutions or society, to change themselves (and from an author who I doubted had a perspective that would be relevant to most moms). Exhausting and irritating. But this author, after all, is a person who is trying to be helpful, in her way. What if she was your friend, even your best friend? And so the idea All the Right Mistakes was born.

From my perspective, I believe that we are living in an extraordinary time for women. While it’s true that there have never been more choices for women than there are now, it’s also true that there is significant, unfinished business when it comes to achieving equality at work and home. I don’t have the solution, but I do have a story to tell. I’m grateful to my publisher, She Writes Press, for giving me a opportunity to tell it. Please drop me a note and tell me your story. Or better yet, write it, because, whatever happens to me as a writer, I know one thing for sure–I’ll always be reading!

EP 61: Redefining midlife with Michela Di Carlo10 Sep 202000:26:42

Hey Fearless Friends - Send me a text and let me know what you are fearlessly facing as you age. You might get a shoutout on the show.

When you look up “midlife'' on Google, the word 'crisis' or 'menopause' are often attached to it. But midlife is much more than that.

Middle-aged women have long been portrayed by society and media as somewhat members who're much less capable once they're past their prime years.

We shouldn't let age (and stereotypes!) define who we really are!

In this episode, we're going to reset how society and media thinks of us middle-aged modern ladies as Michela Di Carlo, the founder of Crunchy Talks, the first ever illustrated online magazine for women over 40, joins us to share how she is empowering midlife women to be more confident and be themselves!

Crunchy Tales is an illustrated online magazine meant to encourage middle-aged women to speak up, step out of their comfort zone and embrace their age with a positive attitude!

If you think midlife is dull, think again! Get inspired to discover a new side of yourself and maybe forge a new path, as Michela shares how and why she founded Crunchy Tales and why your midlife is more fun than you thought!

Episode Highlights:

  • What inspired Michela to start Crunchy Tales
  • Breaking stereotypes and societal norms regarding middle-aged women
  • Why Crunchy Tales uses illustrations to portray midlife
  • Michela talks about having confidence and mistakes
  • What’s next for Crunchy Tales
  • The importance of staying on your path
