Fall is officially here, and you know what that means! In this episode, we are celebrating Fire Prevention Week by reminding everyone about how important it is to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes. When an alarm sounds it gives you an early warning signal that can save lives, but it has to be working!

Did you know that the first few minutes after a person goes into cardiac arrest are the most critical? That’s why it’s so important to learn the skill of hands-only CPR and feel confident using an automated external defibrillator (or AED). You can help save a life! In this episode, we discuss these basic skills and how they can give people a second chance.

Did you know you the FDNY offers Youth Programs for those interested in learning more about a career with the FDNY? In this episode we talk to EMT Ramla Evans, program manager for the FDNY Exploring Program. The program allows youths in New York City to learn new skills and gain experience with the greatest fire department in the world!

It’s so important to call 9-1-1 as soon as there’s an emergency because the situation can get worse—quickly! Calling 9-1-1 is easy, but do you know what to say once you call for help? Or how dispatchers handle emergency calls? In this episode, we’ll teach you all about this lifesaving topic so you can be FDNYSmart when calling 9-1-1!

They’re rechargeable batteries that can be found in electronic devices in every home - like your phone, tablet, electric scooters and bikes. If these batteries aren’t handled properly, they can overheat, catch fire or even explode! In this episode, our special guest, Battery Man, provides important FDNYSmart tips on how to use lithium-ion batteries safely and our student host, Chloe, interviews Lieutenant John Cassidy of HazMat Company 1, a unit specially trained to respond to fires that involve batteries.
