Art and Soup March 9th, 2025! How does food help? It nourishes the heart, mind, and body. Art has its impact to the senses and mind as well. Combine the two and you get Art and Soup!

This is the "VNA’s 28th annual event supporting nursing services in domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and maternity homes.” On the show is Carole Patrick who heads up Art and Soup and Chef Brian O'Malley of MCC who leads the culinary side of the roughly 20 restaurants that bring soup for a cause that the public can experience.

Cake! Stacey Leick of Buttered Marshmallow has reached quite a milestone for her bakery and for anyone in the restaurant/food industry and that is 5 years! She joined us in studio and per usual there were delicious treats in tow and an as of yet brand new item for a taste test.

We are going to talk about her progress, and maybe profiterole, oh and Paris too as Stacey took vacation but rolled that into learning about pastry. Stavcy has a lot of heart and that energy definitely comes through in her cakes, so…

Time to stroll with Lisa and Tim Trudell otherwise known as the Walking Tourists. I became acquainted with Tim and Lisa through their books 100 Things to Do In Omaha Before you Die and of course Unique Eats and Eateries of Omaha. We talk about their work adventuring and authoring in and around our fair city as well as outside of the metro. They also have an upcoming book focused on preserving the history of our Omaha restaurants which have been a part of our lives from daily lunches or maybe a special celebration. Conversation is afoot on this walk with the Walking Tourists.

You are in for a treat, well I have to say Danell and I had the treats and you too will be treated with the food of Korean House located at 2413 Lincoln Rd, Bellevue, NE. This is a tiny spot with big fun between the wonderful food and the hospitality of the owner and staff. We’re talking sweet bulgogi and heat of the hot chicken and some really tasty fried dumplings. The name of the place really does relate to the experience because I felt right at home. Hang on to your fork and listen if you’re hungry.

This episode it’s Food Recognize Food with Omar and Hannah Garrido of El Churro Spot and El Churro Truck. Our conversation moves through the happenings at their new brick and mortar location at 1319 S 50th as well as the challenges working a food truck which they have done for about 6 years. We of course find out where Hannah and Omar like to eat in Omaha as well as worldwide and some delicious Italian food…in Mexico…oh yes! Carolina’s dirty rice, Maryland’s thrashers fries, Massachusetts fluffernutters, yep all eats at East Coast Eats and those things have to naturally thinking of Salvadorian Tamales and Pupusas…oh you can get those at East Coast Eats too. Oxtail, yep, Jersey Burger, yep that too. Danell and I will be talking about the foods and the fun found there at 7622 Dodge Street and in the 2nd half well it’s more east coast eats with an abrupt change in direction. Hang on to your fork!

My goodness we’ve got a 2 part episode! We are going to start by completing our Food Recognize Food conversation with Andrew and Alejandra Miller of Casanova’s butchery. We talk about their time in Mexico city as well as some tips for food in your own casa. The second half of the episode is all about Shahen Afghan Restaurant and Danell and I will be your guides through tasty food from Kabobs to potato stuffed crepe like creations. Hang on to your fork!

On today’s show caring and passion for their craft on display as Casanova’s Butchery owners Alejandra and Andrew Miller talk with me at the store about their mission to provide an experience where your neighborhood provider is your friend. Andrew has been a butcher at local spots like Wholners and Alejandra a Chef at La Buvette in the old market. They opened the doors to the store and popped a cork, and we had a fun conversation and there were also a few surprise guests so...hang onto your fork!

BBQ Brothers cafe is brand new and despite the usual rule of waiting for the restaurant to be open for a while….it’s BBQ and I (Dave) have a real hard time not trying out a new spot. Our side stepping of our own tenet rewarded us and from ribs to beans as we had quite a few things. Make sure to check their social and their ordering app for hours and don’t let the location adventure dissuade you as there are on the North side of the Omaha Tower at 2120 S 72nd St so…Hang on to your fork, keep listening if you're hungry.
