Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris and Melissa here, and today we’re diving into a topic that has been a theme in our home and our conversations lately—what it means to become undeniable. Whether it’s in parenting, business, sports, or life in general, how do we show up in a way that makes our contributions impossible to ignore? We’re sharing personal stories, including how our son took on this mindset in his journey as an athlete, and how you can apply this principle in your own life.

Melissa kicks off the conversation by reflecting on her recent speaking experience. Even though she’s spoken on Zoom and hosted this podcast for years, standing on stage in front of a live audience pushed her in new ways. She found herself replaying every detail, second-guessing her delivery, and realizing how easy it is to be unnecessarily hard on ourselves when we step outside our comfort zones. The lesson? Growth happens when we embrace discomfort and keep showing up, even when we don’t have it all figured out yet.

Chris shares a powerful conversation he had with an entrepreneur who was hesitating to take action in his business, waiting until he was "sure it would work." But here’s the reality—you don’t get certainty before taking the leap. You take the leap, and then you figure it out. This same idea applies in our families, our careers, and every area of life. If we wait until we feel completely ready, we’ll stay stuck.

The inspiration for today’s episode comes from our son, Tanner, and the journey he’s been on with sports. Last year, he chose the word “undeniable” as his theme. At first, it seemed like just a word on a vision board, scribbled in a barely legible font. But over time, he fully embodied that word. He showed up differently in his training, his mindset, and his approach to challenges. Instead of hoping to earn playing time, he worked in a way that made it impossible for coaches to overlook him. He became undeniable.

We wrap up with three powerful questions inspired by world-renowned sports psychologist Bill Beswick, questions that can help you in any area of life:

  1. What do you want?
  2. How bad do you want it?
  3. What are you willing to suffer for to get it?

These questions push us to get clear on our goals, commit to them fully, and recognize that struggle is part of the process. Whether in sports, business, marriage, or personal growth, the key is to put in the work and trust that your undeniable efforts will lead to undeniable results.

210. State of the Smith Family Finances Address31 janv. 202500:31:16

Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris and Melissa here, and today we’re diving into a topic that we haven’t spent much time on in the podcast: family finances. If the thought of finances makes you want to tune out, stick with us—we’re sharing lessons learned from our own money journey, the missteps we’ve taken, and the shifts that have helped us build a healthier relationship with money. This is about more than numbers; it’s about stewardship, mindset, and teaching our kids how to handle money in a way that sets them up for life.

In this episode, we get personal about how we’ve navigated our finances as a family. Like many couples, we started with different upbringings around money, and for years, we didn’t even realize our mindset about money was rooted in scarcity. Early on, we spent countless hours trying to save a few dollars, without understanding the bigger picture of value creation and stewardship. A turning point came when we started reframing our language and habits around money—focusing less on “we can’t afford that” and more on “how can we create the money for what matters to us?”

We also share the importance of teaching financial principles to our kids. A recent conversation with our 17-year-old revealed a gap in how we’ve communicated what it takes to manage money and run a household. This year, we’re being more intentional about showing our kids the behind-the-scenes of family finances—everything from setting budgets to understanding the value of creating income. A simple rule we’ve implemented, “We pay for everything you want and half of what you need,” has helped our kids think twice before spending.

Another shift this year has been the introduction of clear roles in our household finances. Inspired by a couples retreat, we decided to designate Chris as the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) and Melissa as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of our family. This has brought much-needed clarity and accountability to how we handle our responsibilities. It doesn’t mean we don’t support each other, but it has helped eliminate the overlap and inefficiencies we used to face.

Our main takeaway for you: Financial success isn’t just about saving more or spending less; it’s about creating value, building good habits, and fostering a healthy relationship with money—both for you and your kids. As you step into this year, take some time to reflect on how you can intentionally improve your family’s relationship with money.

209. New Year, New Intentions – Finding Your Family’s Focus for 202524 janv. 202500:28:27

Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris and Melissa here, and we’re coming to you from our brand-new house, fresh into 2025! This episode feels extra special because it’s the first one we’re recording in our new home, and we’re sharing how our family has been setting the tone for the new year. Whether you’re someone who loves creating goals and vision boards or you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, this episode will inspire you to pause, reflect, and bring intentionality into your family’s new year.

We’re diving into our favorite end-of-year traditions, like reflecting on what went well in 2024 and what we want to improve for 2025. Chris shares how our family fills out reflection worksheets individually before coming together to talk about what we want to focus on as a group. It’s been such a powerful practice for us to not only grow as individuals but also strengthen our family culture.

One of the big highlights of this year’s reflection process was choosing our family word for 2025: Peace. We explain how we arrived at that theme by gathering input from our kids and reflecting on the areas where we felt the most opportunity for growth—creating more order in our home, being kinder to one another, and fostering a calm, joyful environment. We even share how our kids come up with fun actions to reinforce our family values each day, making the process memorable and engaging.

We also talk about our personal words for the year. Melissa’s word, Maker, is all about being intentional in every area of life—from homemaking to fun-making. Chris’s word, Fearless, challenges him to lean into fear and use it as a guide to pursue growth. These words help us approach the year with clarity and focus, and they’re a constant reminder of what matters most.

Lastly, we touch on the importance of sustaining these intentions beyond the initial excitement of the new year. From creating visual cues like phone backgrounds to saying our family values together every morning, we share practical tips to keep your family’s goals front and center. And don’t worry—it’s not about perfection. It’s about progress, connection, and moving forward together.

Let us know your family’s word or theme for 2025—we’d love to hear how you’re starting the year with intention. You can grab our free reflection guide and start creating your best year yet at familybrand.com/best. Cheers to a fresh start!

208. Rewriting the Stories That Hold You Back: Shatter the Need for Confidence with Guest Angus Nelson17 janv. 202500:34:43

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to my guest, Angus Nelson. Angus is an executive coach who helps entrepreneurs and high achievers break through their blockers and become their best selves. In today’s episode, we dive into why confidence isn’t the secret to success—and why the journey to real self-belief starts with action, not achievements. If you’ve ever felt stuck, doubted yourself, or let fear hold you back, this conversation is for you.

Angus shares why many of us misunderstand confidence, treating it as something we need before taking action. He flips this idea on its head, explaining that confidence is always a result of doing, not a prerequisite. With humor and deep insight, Angus discusses how fear of failure and even fear of success are blockers that can paralyze us. By rethinking our stories and beliefs, we can take the first step toward growth—without waiting to feel “ready.”

We also explore how these concepts apply to family life and relationships. Angus opens up about his own journey of personal transformation, including lessons from his role as a parent and his career as an entrepreneur. His vulnerability and wisdom remind us that building resilience, courage, and self-permission can transform not just our professional lives but our family dynamics as well.

Angus also shares an incredible story of moving his family to Portugal, embracing resistance, and finding courage through big life changes. His takeaway? Resistance isn’t a sign to quit; it’s an opportunity to grow stronger and prove to yourself what you’re capable of.

Lastly, Angus gives us a sneak peek into his upcoming book, Confidence Comes Later. He reveals why chasing confidence keeps us stuck and how shifting our mindset can unlock incredible potential. It’s a must-read for anyone ready to shatter limiting beliefs and step into the life they were meant to live.

207. Our One Family 'Rule': Simplify Your Family Life with This Guiding Principle09 janv. 202500:15:41

Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris and Melissa here, and today we’re talking about something that has brought clarity and connection to our family: our one family “rule.” Now, we’re not talking about a strict rule you have to follow, but more like a guiding principle—something simple that keeps us grounded, connected, and focused on what matters most. In this episode, we’ll walk you through how we discovered ours, why it’s been so impactful, and how you can find your own one family rule.

We started this concept through our work with The Psblty Co, where we help businesses simplify their growth by focusing on one core principle. That got us thinking: Why not apply the same idea to our family? So, we gathered our kids, reflected on our family’s mission, vision, and values, and asked, “If we could only remember one thing, what would make the biggest impact?” The answer for us was clear: Elevate and Inspire.

These three words capture how we want to treat each other and show up as a family. They remind us to lift each other up, speak possibility into each other’s lives, and strive for connection. Since adopting this rule, it’s become a touchstone for all of us. Even the kids use it as a gentle check-in, asking, “Was that elevate and inspire?” It’s been a game-changer for how we approach our relationships at home.

If you’re wondering how to create your own one family rule, we recommend starting with your existing family mission or values. Is there a phrase or principle that stands out as the cornerstone? If you don’t have a mission or values yet, that’s okay! Just ask yourself: How do we want to treat each other? What’s most important in how we show up as a family? Keep it simple—five words or less—and make it memorable.

The beauty of this concept is its simplicity. In the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget the grand mission statements or big goals. But a short, actionable rule is something you can come back to daily. It’s a lens for making decisions, a reminder to align your actions with your values, and a foundation for building strong, lasting relationships.

If you’re inspired to find your family’s one rule, let us know! We’d love to hear what you come up with and how it transforms your family dynamic.

206. Make your goal of 'Get Organized' actually happen in 2025! With Shawn Lemon of The Digital Organizer03 janv. 202500:39:44

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and this week, we’re diving into a topic that’s on everyone’s mind as we head into a new year: getting organized! My guest, Shawn Lemon of The Digital Organizer, is here to share practical strategies to help families streamline their digital lives and create more peace at home. If your goal for 2025 is to finally tackle that messy inbox, set up a family calendar, or organize your files, Shawn has the tools and mindset shifts you need to make it happen.

Shawn shares how his journey into digital organization began with a tech-savvy dad who made him read manuals and fix the family computer. This early experience sparked a lifelong passion for simplifying tech and teaching others to master their digital tools. Over the past 11 years, Shawn has helped families and businesses alike transform their chaotic digital setups into systems that work seamlessly.

One of the biggest challenges families face, Shawn explains, is managing multiple platforms and tools. From calendars to file storage, he emphasizes the importance of choosing one shared system that everyone can access easily. Whether it’s Google Drive or iCloud, the key is finding what works best for your family and committing to it. Shawn’s advice? Start small and keep it simple—it’s about progress, not perfection.

Shawn also highlights the mental side of organization. Often, we get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of “stuff” and don’t know where to start. He encourages families to focus on small wins, like unsubscribing from unnecessary emails or consolidating files into one location. These simple steps build momentum and help you stay motivated as you tackle bigger projects.

Lastly, we discuss the life skills that come with digital organization, especially for kids. Shawn shares how setting up shared calendars or folders can teach responsibility, time management, and teamwork. These lessons go beyond the digital realm, preparing kids for success in school, work, and life.

If you’re ready to take control of your digital life, Shawn’s Digital Organization Guide is a must-have resource. Head over to: thedigitalorganizer.com/lp/familybrand to download it and start your journey toward a more organized 2025!

205. Best Year Yet: A Fun and Meaningful Way to Celebrate New Year’s with Your Family (FREE DOWNLOAD INSIDE)27 déc. 202400:12:52

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa and Chris here, and we’re so excited to share one of our favorite annual traditions: our “Best Year Yet” family framework. Whether you’re looking for a fun and meaningful way to close out the year or want to start the new year with intention, this episode is packed with ideas to help your family reflect, connect, and dream big for 2024. And the best part? It’s all free! Head over to familybrand.com/best to download everything you need to get started.

We created this framework to replace the rushed, chaotic energy we often felt during the holidays with something more meaningful and intentional. Instead of just showing up to New Year’s Eve parties and coasting into January, we wanted to reflect on the past year, celebrate our wins, and create a vision for the year ahead. Over time, this tradition has become one of the most impactful things we do as a family.

This framework includes three parts: reflecting on the past year, celebrating New Year’s Eve with a fun family tradition, and setting goals for the year ahead. It’s designed to include everyone, from young kids to teens, making it a unique way for families to grow together. Chris and I love how it allows us to pause, have meaningful conversations, and learn new things about our kids and each other.

One of the most exciting aspects is how much fun families have reported having with the New Year’s Eve activities. From award ceremonies to family games, this tradition has become a favorite for many of you. And we’ve seen the impact it’s had—bringing families closer, encouraging intentional growth, and helping everyone feel more connected and supported as they step into a new year.

Lastly, we shared how businesses often use end-of-year reflections and strategic planning to set up for success. We’ve taken some of these principles and applied them to family life, creating an approach that’s accessible, practical, and, most importantly, fun for the whole family.

Let’s make this your best year yet as a family! We’d love to see how you use the framework—tag us in your photos and stories, and let’s inspire each other to make 2024 amazing. Happy New Year!

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, joined by Chris, and today we’re celebrating a huge milestone: four years of the Family Brand Podcast! We can hardly believe it ourselves, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU—our incredible listeners. In this episode, we’re looking back at the conversations that have shaped us, the lessons we’ve learned, and why consistency has been our secret sauce. Plus, we’re giving you a sneak peek at an exciting New Year’s resource we’ve created just for you and your family!

We kicked things off with some behind-the-scenes fun—recording this episode on a school bus! Yes, you heard that right. Chris pulled up in the bus after coaching our daughter’s basketball team, and it felt fitting to mark this adventure-filled journey with a little spontaneity. Reflecting on these past four years, we’re amazed at how the podcast has grown and the impact it’s had on families worldwide. Your support, shares, and reviews keep us going, so thank you for being part of this mission!

Melissa shared her “why” behind the podcast—what keeps her showing up every week (almost without fail!). It started as a personal challenge to find her voice and has since transformed into a platform for meaningful conversations that uplift families. For Chris, one key takeaway has been the power of consistency. Whether it’s a podcast, a family tradition, or building a strong marriage, consistency trumps everything.

We also revisited some of our favorite episodes, like Thomas McConkie’s conversation on navigating faith crises within families and our deeply personal episode on why your marriage is worth fighting for. Each one reminded us of the transformative power of honest, vulnerable conversations.

And here’s the big news: We’re launching a free New Year’s resource to help you close out this year intentionally and start the next one with purpose. It’s designed for families to reflect together, celebrate your wins, and set meaningful goals as a team. 203. Make 2025 Your Best Year Yet with Guests Wayne and Mae Wagner13 déc. 202400:46:51

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and today, I’m so excited to welcome back two incredible guests, Wayne and Mae Wagner. If you’ve been feeling like you want to start 2025 with intention and purpose, this episode is for you. We dive deep into practical ways to close out this year strong, reflect on what worked (and what didn’t), and set up your family for success in the new year.

Wayne and Mae share how their family has evolved their year-end planning rituals over time. From reflection exercises to setting meaningful goals, they emphasize the importance of being intentional and involving the whole family. Mae highlights their tradition of evaluating relationships within the family, using a scale of 1 to 10 to foster honest conversations. While these moments can feel vulnerable, they’ve found that it strengthens their family bonds and builds resilience.

We also dive into the power of vision boards—one of our family’s favorite traditions. Whether you use it to reflect personal goals, family goals, or a mix of both, vision boarding can be a tactile and fun way to create a shared sense of purpose. Mae and Wayne shared how they’ve adapted this process over the years, even incorporating financial planning for their adult children to help them feel empowered and prepared.

One of the highlights of our conversation was discussing the value of creating a family narrative. As Mae beautifully explains, families thrive when they can reflect on their shared stories—the ups and downs, challenges, and victories. This narrative not only helps create identity but also instills confidence and grit in kids. It’s a reminder that as families, we’re all in this together.

Lastly, we shared some practical resources to help you start your own planning traditions. Whether you’re creating a family mission statement, planning a vision board night, or setting up year-end reflections, the most important thing is to start. And remember, you don’t have to do it perfectly—it’s the effort and intentionality that matter most.

Let us know how you plan to make 2025 your best year yet! And don’t forget to grab the free family planning resources mentioned in this episode at familybrand.com/best. We can’t wait to hear how these ideas help your family thrive!

202. What I’m Leaving Behind in My 30s and Embracing in My 40s06 déc. 202400:16:29

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and today’s episode is extra personal as I reflect on turning 40. Hitting this milestone has been such a meaningful moment for me—an opportunity to look back on my 30s, decide what I’m leaving behind, and think about what I want to embrace moving forward. I’m also excited to share some big changes I’ve been making, including a shift in how I’m showing up online. If you’re navigating a season of transition, this one’s for you!

I started this decade feeling surprisingly at peace. Turning 40 wasn’t scary for me—it felt like a gift. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that growing older is truly a privilege, one not everyone gets to experience. That said, this birthday brought up some unexpected reflections, particularly around friendships and how I want to show up in my relationships moving forward. It was a reminder to celebrate the connections that mean the most and to be intentional about fostering those bonds.

One of the biggest shifts I want to make in my 40s is caring less about what others think and living more authentically. During a recent breathwork session, I had a powerful realization about wanting to live with an open heart. For me, this means trusting my instincts, being more courageous, and leaning into the things that bring me joy—even when they feel a little scary, like launching a new masterclass or changing my Instagram handle. (By the way, you can now find me at @heyMelissaSmith!)

Another thing I’m embracing in this new season is the idea of wholehearted living, inspired by Brené Brown’s work in The Gifts of Imperfection. I’m letting go of perfectionism, fear, and comparison, and choosing to cultivate gratitude, creativity, and meaningful work instead. It’s a process, but it’s one I’m excited to lean into because it feels like the path to truly living life to the fullest.

As I wrap up this reflection, I want to say thank you for being part of my journey. Family Brand has been such a beautiful evolution over the past four years, and I’m so grateful for this community. Whether you’re entering a new decade or just looking to make small, meaningful changes, I hope this episode inspires you to embrace the things that light you up and let go of what no longer serves you.

201. STOP Doing These Family Traditions!28 nov. 202400:14:02

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and today, I want to dive into a topic that feels especially timely as we head into the holidays: family traditions. Traditions can be beautiful and meaningful, but have you ever stopped to ask yourself if all of your traditions are still serving you and your family? That’s what we’re exploring in this episode—how to evaluate your traditions, let go of the ones that no longer work, and intentionally create new rituals that bring your family closer together.

When we think of traditions, our minds often jump to the big ones—holiday celebrations, birthdays, or annual events. But family traditions are so much more than that. They’re also the small, consistent rituals we build into our daily and weekly lives, like family dinners, bedtime routines, or even Sunday night check-ins. Research shows that the strongest families have the highest frequency of these rituals, not just around special occasions, but woven into everyday life.

I share some examples from our family, like how we’ve reevaluated traditions over the years. For instance, we decided to stop making gingerbread houses with extended family after moving further away, even though it was hard for the kids at first. The key is to make space for what works best for your unique family, while still honoring the core purpose of traditions: building identity, belonging, and strength.

If you’re ready to shake things up, I suggest starting with a family discussion. Bring everyone together, explain your thoughts about why you’d like to adapt or change certain traditions, and invite their feedback. One resource I recommend for this process is the book The Intentional Family by William Dougherty, which offers practical advice on how to make these shifts thoughtfully and collaboratively.

Lastly, I encourage you to double down on traditions that truly bring connection to your family. For us, family meetings and shared mealtimes have been game-changers. If you’re curious about starting family meetings, I have a free resource to guide you through the process, complete with a mini-course to make it super simple. Check it out at familybrand.com/meetings.

As you step into this holiday season and prepare for the new year, take some time to reflect: What traditions are worth keeping, and what new ones can you create to align with the family culture you want to build?

200. Heed the Calling: Why Listening to Your Calling Can Change Everything22 nov. 202400:13:19

Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris and Melissa here, and we’re thrilled to bring you this week’s conversation, inspired by a special experience we had as a family. Over the weekend, we attended church with some dear friends, and the pastor shared a powerful message about Jonah and what it means to have a calling. That message sparked an amazing family discussion, and today, we’re diving into what it means to listen for your calling, why it’s so important, and how to act on it, even when it feels scary.

We kicked off the episode sharing our weekend in Phoenix, where we enjoyed great company, community events, and some meaningful time with our kids. A highlight was attending a non-denominational church service, which was a first for most of our family. The pastor’s message about Jonah running from his calling really hit home and prompted a big question: What does it mean to feel called to something?

Together, we explored the idea that callings can look different for everyone. Sometimes, they’re about pursuing something that excites you. Other times, they involve stepping into something uncomfortable or unknown. Either way, callings often require courage. We reflected on how fear of failure, judgment from others, or simply the busyness of life can drown out those inner nudges. But here’s the truth—when you listen and act on what’s calling to you, amazing things can happen.

Melissa shared a personal story about stepping away from her career as a nurse, despite the resistance and questions she faced from others. Chris talked about how their family’s move to Hawaii, driven by nothing more than a feeling, taught them to trust their intuition. These experiences reminded us that callings don’t always make sense to others—and they don’t have to.

We wrapped up by encouraging you to get quiet, reflect, and listen. What’s calling to you right now? Maybe it’s something big, like a career change, or something small, like dedicating more time to a passion. Whatever it is, don’t let judgment or fear hold you back. As Melissa beautifully put it, “Time is going to pass anyway, so you might as well spend it on the path to where you want to go.”

199. Raising Civic-Minded Kids with Brittany Richman of The American Moms15 nov. 202400:34:52

Hey, Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and today, I have a very special guest on the podcast—Brittany Richman of The American Moms. Brittany’s story is inspiring, from working on President Bush’s speechwriting team to founding The American Moms blog with her twin sister. She’s here to share her insights on teaching our kids about civics, showing up in our communities, and the power we each have to create positive change. If you’ve ever wondered how to get your family more involved in civic life or felt unsure about where to start, this episode is packed with ideas to help you make a difference, right where you are!

Brittany talks about her journey into politics and public service, starting with her job in the White House. Her passion for civic engagement is something she and her sister carry forward today through The American Moms, where they help families raise civically aware kids. Brittany shares how simple activities like watching the news as a family or attending local meetings can create a lasting impact. She believes these small, everyday actions build a foundation of awareness and involvement, showing kids that they, too, have a voice.

One of the biggest takeaways Brittany shares is the importance of teaching kids to understand and appreciate differing viewpoints. In today’s world, disagreement often feels like division, but Brittany emphasizes that “disagreement and hatred are not the same thing.” She encourages families to foster open conversations, teaching kids to approach others with respect, even when opinions differ. This lesson, Brittany says, helps raise citizens who are engaged, empathetic, and empowered to make a difference.

Brittany also talks about the importance of getting involved at the local level. From advocating for better sidewalks to improving school grading systems, she shares real-life examples of how showing up can lead to meaningful change. This isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about addressing what matters in your own backyard. Brittany reminds us that “sometimes change is as simple as gathering a group of moms, writing letters, or attending a school board meeting.”

If you’re interested in finding unbiased news or want to know where to start with civic education, Brittany has some fantastic advice. She recommends local news, podcasts like Civics 101, and educational websites that help both kids and parents learn about government and civics without the bias we often see today. By seeking a variety of sources, we can foster an open-minded approach to news and help our kids build a well-rounded understanding of the world.

Hey Family Brand! It’s Melissa here, and today, I’m beyond excited to introduce you to Brad Nelson, also known as the Debt Free Dad. Brad has an incredible story about going from the weight of debt to a life of financial freedom, and he’s here to share how he did it and how you can too. If you’ve ever felt alone in your financial struggles, this episode is for you! Brad breaks down simple, practical steps to help families like ours get out of debt and start building the future we want.

Brad opens up about his early financial journey and the challenges he faced, from living paycheck-to-paycheck to ultimately losing his home. He shares how this wake-up call led him to completely transform his mindset and make debt freedom a reality. Brad’s story is one so many of us can relate to—thinking we’ll manage “someday” while trying to keep up with life’s demands. But he shows us that, with the right mindset and some determination, financial freedom is possible.

One thing Brad emphasizes is the importance of mindset. Getting out of debt isn’t easy, but it starts with a vision and a commitment to change. He talks about how having a clear vision for his future helped him make tough choices, like cutting back on unnecessary spending. This vision was a game-changer, motivating him to stay on track when things got hard. Brad encourages all of us to sit down and get honest about what we want our financial lives to look like—and to start taking small steps to get there.

We also dive into the topic of family finances and how to involve our kids in positive, age-appropriate ways. Brad suggests bringing children into simple budgeting conversations, teaching them that “no” doesn’t mean “never,” and that financial responsibility is about intentional choices. It’s about giving them the tools to build a healthy relationship with money that will last a lifetime.

Lastly, Brad shares how he’s now helping others on their financial journeys through his Debt Free Dad podcast and membership community, Roots of Personal Finance. By providing accountability and support, Brad has created a space where people don’t have to feel alone in their financial struggles. This community is all about giving families the tools and support to reach their goals, one step at a time.

Hey Family Brand community! It's just Chris here today. Melissa is off on an adventure with one of our kids, picking out some exciting new touches for the new home we're building. While they're out, I wanted to share some thoughts from a recent event I spoke at, which really resonated with me and I hope will resonate with you too.

At this event in Austin, Texas, I had the privilege to speak to a room full of successful entrepreneurs about "authentic growth"—growing in a way that truly aligns with who you are. The night before my speech, I stumbled upon a story on Instagram about a man in Zimbabwe who teaches beekeeping to his community. This story, filled with passion and purpose, really struck a chord with me, and I decided to share it with the audience.

Today, I want to dive deeper into what authentic growth means and why it's important to occasionally pause and reflect on why we pursue growth. Are we chasing goals that truly fulfill us, or are we just ticking boxes?

If you’re curious to hear more about finding and following your authentic path, hit play now to join me in this exploration.

Let’s open up this conversation and help each other stay true to our paths. If you have thoughts or stories about your own journeys of authentic growth, I'd love to hear them. Connect with me and Melissa via the links below!

183. Surround your Kids with Cool People11 juil. 202400:15:26

Hey Family Brand community! Chris and Melissa here, and we're excited to share something we’ve been reflecting on since our amazing 4th of July weekend. This week, we dive into the "cool aunt and uncle effect," where we noticed our kids absorbing wisdom from adults other than us--maybe even more effectively!

It's about recognizing that sometimes, the best lessons aren't taught by us but by the cool people we choose to surround our kids with. During our time in Utah with the Alexander family, we saw firsthand how other adults could positively impact our children. Their approach to interacting with our kids wasn't just welcoming; it was genuinely impactful, shaping conversations that mattered.

Want to hear more about our experiences and insights on this topic? Hit play now to join the conversation!

If this episode inspires you, or if you’ve experienced something similar, don’t hesitate to reach out! We’re eager to hear how you navigate parenting and the influential people you bring into your children's lives.

Join us as we explore how meaningful interactions with trusted adults can enrich our children's lives and offer new perspectives. Let’s make every interaction count!

177. Unlock Summer Magic: Family Agreements That Make Every Day Count24 mai 202400:13:23

Hello, Family Brand community! Chris and Melissa here, bringing you some timely insights as we dive into the sunny season. Today, we're exploring how setting "Summer Agreements" can transform the often daunting, unstructured weeks of summer into a period of growth and enjoyment for the whole family.

Summertime brings a mix of freedom and challenge, especially when it comes to managing time without the school year's structure. A few years ago, Melissa introduced a fantastic concept to our summer planning that has significantly benefited our family life. Each summer, we encourage everyone in the family to pick something they want to improve on or achieve during these months. Whether it’s learning new skills, like Chris trying to throw left-handed, or setting personal fitness goals, these summer projects bring a sense of purpose and fun.

We also love integrating ideas from inspiring reads into our summer plans. For instance, after reading "Way of the Warrior Kid" by Jocko Willink, our family discussions about summer goals have deepened. The book's themes about personal discipline and growth resonate with our aim to encourage both physical and mental development over the summer.

However, it's not just about personal achievements. Setting clear agreements on how the summer will unfold is crucial. These agreements strike a balance between maintaining enough structure to prevent chaos and allowing enough freedom for spontaneous summer fun. For example, discussing and agreeing on curfews, daily routines, and family activities helps manage expectations and keeps everyone on the same page.

This summer, we challenge each of you to think about what agreements would work best for your family. What do you want to achieve? How do you want to feel by the end of the summer? Engage your children in this conversation, let them set their goals, and discuss as a family how you can support each other in achieving these objectives.

As we set these intentions and agreements, we also remember to model these behaviors ourselves. It's important for kids to see their parents embracing challenges and stepping out of their comfort zones. This summer, let's all strive to 'get that dog in us'—putting in the effort and showing up for ourselves and our family.

Wishing you all a summer filled with growth, joy, and meaningful family moments. Go out there and make it amazing!

Hey, Chris and Melissa here! Today’s podcast episode is packed with insights and inspiring stories from the recent "Ignite Possibility Experience." This was Chris's first event since launching our new venture, www.psblty.co and what an incredible two days it was!

We explored the transformative power of embracing our abilities with confidence and how this can unlock doors not just for ourselves but for people around us. The conference was a powerful mix of personal stories, practical advice, and powerful affirmations that left everyone, including us, energized and ready to tackle their own challenges with a renewed sense of possibility. That’s why we had to share with our podcast fam!

You may be thinking, why focus on confidence? It’s simple. Because true confidence is more than just feeling good about yourself—it's about stepping into your role as a leader in your own life and inspiring others to do the same.

During the event, we discussed how changing our narrative from doubt to belief has the power to transform our actions and, subsequently, our results. In this episode, we break down some of the key topics covered at the conference, such as the importance of making and keeping commitments to yourself, the impact of positive self-talk, and how to live boldly without fear of judgement. 173. The Power of Identity: Helping Kids Navigate Self-Worth and Belonging26 avr. 202400:22:36

Hey Family Brand community, Chris and Melissa here! Today’s not just any day—it’s Tripp’s ninth birthday, and while we're celebrating, we’ve got a topic that’s been pressing on our hearts. We’re talking about something that could change our kids’ lives: understanding and believing in their inherent worth.

In our chat today, we dive deep into why kids today face more challenges than ever before—comparing themselves to a whole world online, not just their classmates. It’s tough, and it's why we think there's a real need to regularly affirm how much they matter.

We explore the "cool aunt and uncle effect," which shows that sometimes, these important messages can be heard better from someone other than mom and dad. It's one of the reasons we created our Family Brand Academy, to help families communicate the crucial messages of self-worth and identity effectively.

So, what can we do as families? It’s about more than just telling our kids they’re great; it’s about showing them they’re valued every single day. It's about being intentional in our conversations and actions, making sure our kids know they’re not just enough—they’re more than enough.

Join us by hitting play now, as we dive deep into these ideas and share practical tips on nurturing a positive, strong sense of self in our kids. Let's empower them together to face anything with confidence.

Ps, we would love to connect with you! Share how you’re reinforcing these values at home with us on Instagram at www.instagram.com/ourfamilybrand! Let’s keep this conversation going and build a community that lifts each other up. Here’s to a week of empowerment and celebrating the amazing potential of our families!

164. Transforming Money Mindsets: Rethinking Wealth with Garrett Gunderson09 févr. 202400:49:11

What does your family think about money? This powerful question could be the answer to to shifting your family legacy forever!

Today, we're excited to bring you insights from Garrett Gunderson, a close friend and brilliant mind in the realms of wealth creation and preservation! Garrett's journey is not just about accumulating wealth; it's about investing in oneself and understanding the value of money in creating a fulfilling life.

Garrett shared the transformative impact of involving his family in his entrepreneurial ventures, highlighting the importance of exposing children to the value creation process. He believes that teaching kids and even ourselves to invest in our passions and interests is crucial. This approach fosters a sense of worth and encourages personal growth beyond just financial gains.

One of the most powerful takeaways from our chat was the concept of money being a tool for exchange, not a measure of our value. By shifting the conversation around money from scarcity to abundance, we can inspire our children and ourselves to see money as a byproduct of adding value to the world.

Garrett's new children's book, "I Am Money," introduces these concepts in a way that's accessible and engaging for kids, encouraging them to see themselves as valuable beyond their material possessions. It's a must-read for families looking to instill healthy financial habits and a positive mindset about wealth from an early age.

We love how Garrett gives families freedom in the journey and helps us all understand that utilizing money effectively is ongoing. It's about progress, not perfection. Let's continue to learn, grow, and support each other in creating a family culture that values personal growth, contribution, and meaningful success.

Ready to dive deeper into these insights and learn how to foster a healthy relationship with money in your family? Hit play now and let's invest in ourselves and our families, shaping a future where money serves as a tool for fulfilling our true potential.

Jill highlighted the importance of energy availability and the concept of REDS, offering a fresh perspective on how nutrition impacts not only physical but also cognitive and emotional health!
