No último episódio da série Falar as Danças, convidámos Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz a derivar por pensamentos e situações do seu trabalho coreográfico, por entre “O barulho das cadeiras”.
Dias & Roriz são uma dupla de artistas/coreógrafos a colaborar desde 2006. A natureza híbrida da sua pesquisa, associada a uma curiosidade e necessidade de experimentação levou-os à criação de vários espetáculos, performances, faixas sonoras, vídeos, podcasts e instalações, atravessando diferentes contextos e esbatendo limites entre áreas artísticas. Os seus espetáculos para palco, predominantemente interpretados pelos dois, convocam uma linguagem coreográfica depurada em ligação com a palavra e a voz. Em 2011 foram consagrados com o Prix Jardin d'Europe e Aerowaves Spring Forward com o espetáculo "Um gesto que não passa de uma ameaça" de 2011. Fizeram a curadoria do Programa Avançado de Criação em Artes Performativas do Forum Dança, em 2018 e 2023, e, no biénio 2023/2024, são Artistas Residentes na Fundação Champalimaud.

In the final episode of Wording Dances, we invited Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz to drift through thoughts and situations of their choreographic work, amid “The Noise of the Chairs”.
Dias & Roriz are a duo of artists and choreographers, collaborating since 2006. The hybrid nature of their research, connected with their curiosity and need for experimentation, has led them to the creation of various shows, performances, audio tracks, videos, podcasts, and installations, crossing different contexts and blurring the boundaries between artistic areas. Their performances conceived for stage, mainly performed by the two of them, employ a refined choreographic language combined with text and voice. In 2011, they were awarded the Prix Jardin d'Europe and won the first place at Aerowaves Spring Forward 13 for their performance “Um gesto que não passa de uma ameaça”. They served as curators for PACAP (Advanced Program for Creation in Performing Arts) at Forum Dança in 2018 and 2023, and during the 2023/2024 biennium, they are artists in residence at the Champalimaud Foundation.

Neste novo episódio de Falar as Danças, convidámos Angela Guerreiro a escrever e ler-nos um texto seu, intitulado “O Decolonial nas Artes, os Museus e a 'ARTE DE SE COMPORTAR MAL'”.
A. Guerreiro é mãe, artista independente, mentora de dança, produtora, investigadora, ativista, curadora de festivais e conferências, terapeuta de movimento e educadora de movimento somático. Foi coreógrafa residente no Kampnagel em Hamburgo entre 1995 e 2002, apresentando o seu trabalho internacionalmente. Atualmente é doutoranda no programa “Pós-Colonialismos e Cidadania Global” do Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra, membra da UNA-União Negra das Artes e presidente da direção da Associação Natureza Arte Corpo e Alma.

Para o oitavo episódio da série Falar as Danças, convidámos a coreógrafa Ivana Müller a escrever e ler-nos um texto da sua autoria, escrito para esta ocasião, intitulado “Thoughts on Togetherness”. Ivana é coreógrafa, artista e escritora. Nasceu em Zagreb e cresceu na Croácia e em Amesterdão. Através do seu trabalho coreográfico e teatral, repensa a política do espetáculo e do espetacular, revisita o lugar do imaginário e da imaginação, questiona a noção de “participação”, investiga a ideia de valor e a sua representação, e continua a inspirar-se na relação entre performer e espetador. Para além da sua prática artística, é curadora de encontros artísticos e discursivos, e palestrante em diferentes contextos. Atualmente, vive em Paris e trabalha internacionalmente.

Neste novo episódio de Falar as Danças, convidámos Bojana Cvejić a ler-nos um excerto adaptado de um capítulo de livro em manuscrito, intitulado: “Trabalhamos com os materiais que nos resistem”. Bojana é autora de vários livros, como “Choreographing Problems”, de 2015, e “Toward a Transindividual Self: A Study in Social Dramaturgy”, com coautoria de Ana Vujanović. Desde 1996, criou, participou e colaborou em inúmeras obras de ópera, dança e teatro na Europa como coencenadora, dramaturga ou performer. Bojana também é coautora de diversos vídeos e videoinstalações que exploram a dança e a coreografia, tais como “...in a non-wimpy way...”, com Steve Paxton, de 2013; “Yvonne Rainer’s WAR”, do mesmo ano; e “Spatial Confessions”, para a Tate Modern, em 2014. A sua investigação em coreografia social, transindividualidade e teoria crítica move-a politicamente, levando-a a organizar plataformas coletivas de autoeducação e produção experimental, como o PAF – Fórum de Artes Performativas em St. Erme. Desde 2017, divide o seu tempo entre Oslo, ensinando Teoria da Dança na Academia Nacional das Artes de Oslo, e Bruxelas, onde ensina na P.A.R.T.S.

Neste novo episódio de Falar as Danças, convidámos Ana Borralho & João Galante a escrever e ler-nos um texto seu, intitulado “Quarto Escuro”. Ana Borralho & João Galante trabalham juntos nos seus próprios projetos de performance, dança, instalação, fotografia, som e videoarte, que apresentam por todo o mundo. Conheceram-se enquanto estudavam artes visuais no AR.CO, em Lisboa, e trabalharam juntos regularmente nos anos 90 como actores/co-criadores no grupo de teatro Olho em Cacilhas/Almada. Co-fundaram a banda de não-músicos Jimmie Durham e a associação cultural Casa Branca, foram co-curadores do festival de música eletrónica Electrolegos em Lagos e dirigem o festival Verão Azul em Lagos e Loulé. Vivem e trabalham em Lisboa e Lagos.

Neste novo episódio de Falar as Danças, recebemos o ensaísta e curador independente André Lepecki, que nos lerá um texto seu, intitulado “A disputa pelo movimento e o não-tempo da luta: um delírio em quatro movimentos”. Lepecki trabalha e investiga na intersecção de estudos críticos de dança, prática curatorial, teoria da performance, dança contemporânea e performance em artes visuais. É professor titular na Universidade de Nova Iorque, onde coordena o Departamento de Estudos da Performance. Publicou "Exhausting Dance: Performance and the Politics of Movement" pela Routledge em 2006, entretanto traduzido para 13 idiomas; e, pela mesma editora, em 2016, publicou "Singularities: Dance in the Age of Performance".

O coreógrafo Jonathan Burrows tem-se dedicado a criar um conjunto de peças em colaboração com o compositor Matteo Fargion, com quem tem vindo a atuar um pouco por todo o mundo. É também autor de "A Choreographer’s Handbook", publicado pela Routledge em 2010, e é atualmente Professor Associado no Centre for Dance Research da Coventry University.

Neste novo episódio de Falar as Danças, recebemos deufert&plischke, o “Artistwin”, para nos ler um texto seu escrito exclusivamente para esta ocasião, intitulado “Grand Opening”.
Kattrin Deufert e Thomas Plischke formaram a dupla de artistas deufert&plischke em 2001, e nos últimos 22 anos já criaram mais de 50 projetos de teatro que abordam situações de produção artística e a dinâmica social complexa dos processos artísticos. Criaram a série Anarchiv, os Emergence Rooms, os Entropic Institutes, a série DURCHEINANDER, e o projeto de história da dança Just in Time, para dar alguns exemplos de um leque muito vasto de projetos. Todas as séries de trabalhos abrangem arcos temáticos muito amplos, desde as origens da mitologia grega às questões prementes do nosso tempo: Como é que comunicamos numa comunidade de estranhos? Como é que tomamos decisões em conjunto? Como é que assumimos responsabilidade por nós próprios e pelos outros? As suas obras ultrapassam as fronteiras da dança e do teatro e abordam a participação individual e o quotidiano social em eventos artísticos.
Neste episódio de Falar as Danças, o bailarino e coreógrafo brasileiro Marcelo Evelin convida a artista, performer e influencer de Teresina Neguxa Uau para ler “A vida é a vida e a vida é babado”, um texto seu escrito a nosso convite. O Marcelo vive entre Teresina e Amesterdão e trabalha no Brasil, no Japão e em vários países da Europa como artista independente à frente da Plataforma Demolition Incorporada, que tem sede no CAMPO, um espaço de Residência e Resistência das Artes Performativas em Teresina, no Piauí. O Marcelo iniciou-se como coreógrafo em 1989, contando hoje com um corpo de trabalho composto por mais de 30 obras coreográficas, das quais “Barricada", “A Invenção da Maldade" e “ai, ai, ai” continuam em circulação. Ensina na Escola Superior de Artes de Amesterdão desde 1999 e é responsável por projectos de criação artística em Universidades e cursos de mestrado, tais como o Instituto Superior de Artes e Coreografias, em Bruxelas, o Museu Reina Sofia, em Madrid, o EXERCE, em Montpellier, e o Centre National de la Danse, em Paris. Em 2019, recebeu o título de Doutor Honoris Causa pela Universidade Federal do Piauí. Os seus espetáculos circulam por teatros e festivais de todo o mundo, tais como o Festival d’Automne, em Paris, o Kunsten Festival des Arts, em Bruxelas, o Teatro Rivoli, no Porto, ou o Festival Alkantara, em Lisboa, onde apresenta este ano a mais recente criação da Demolition Incorporada, “UIRAPURU”.

Neste episódio de Falar as Danças, a bailarina e coreógrafa inglesa Siobhan Davies lê-nos “Postcards from a life which dances” (Postais de uma vida que dança), um texto que escreveu exclusivamente para esta ocasião. Siobhan dedica-se à recolha de imagens, desenho, escrita e conversação como extensões da dança e da coreografia. Com um corpo de trabalho que se estende ao longo 50 anos de atividade, criou obras tanto para teatros como para galerias e, em 2006, juntamente com a arquiteta Sarah Wigglesworth, criou os Siobhan Davies Dance Studios, em Londres. Reformou-se dos estúdios em 2020, mas continua a trabalhar como professora associada na Universidade de Coventry (Cdare).

For the eighth episode of the Wording Dances podcast, we invited Ivana Müller to read to us a text written for this occasion, titled “Thoughts on Togetherness”. Ivana is a choreographer, artist and writer. Through her choreographic and theatre work, she rethinks the politics of spectacle and the spectacular, revisits the place of the imaginary and imagination, questions the notion of “participation”, investigates the idea of value and its representation, and is continuously inspired by the relationship between performer and spectator. Besides her artistic practice, she curates artistic and discursive encounters and lectures in different contexts. She currently lives in Paris and works internationally.

In this new episode of Wording Dances, we invited Bojana Cvejić to read to us an adapted excerpt from a book chapter in manuscript, titled: “We work with the materials that resist us”. In this new episode of Wording Dances, we invited Ana Borralho & João Galante to write and read us a text entitled “Dark Room”. Ana Borralho & João Galante work together on their own performance, dance, installation, photography, sound and video art projects, which they present all around the world. They met when they were studying visual arts at the Ar.Co, in Lisbon, and in the 90s they worked regularly together as actors/co‑creators in the theater group OLHO in Cacilhas/Almada. They co-founded the non-musicians band Jimmie Durham and the cultural association casaBranca, they were co-curators of the Electrolegos electronic music festival in Lagos, and they direct the Verão Azul festival in Lagos and Loulé. They live and work in Lisbon and Lagos.

Lepecki works and researches at the intersection between critical dance studies, curatorial practice, performance theory, contemporary dance and performance in visual arts. He is a full professor at New York University, where he coordinates the Department of Performance Studies. He has authored "Exhausting Dance: Performance and the Politics of Movement", published by Routledge in 2006, which has since been translated into 13 languages, and, by the same publishing house, "Singularities: Dance in the Age of Performance", in 2016.

In this new episode of “Wording Dances”, we welcome deufert&plischke, the Artistwin, to read to us from a text which they wrote exclusively for this occasion, entitled “Grand Opening”.
Dr Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have formed the artistwin deufert&plischke in 2001, and in the last 22 years they have realised over 50 theatre projects that deal with artistic production situations and the complex social dynamics of artistic processes. They have created the Anarchiv series, the Emergence Rooms, the Entropic Institutes, the DURCHEINANDER series, and the dance history project Just in Time, to name a few of their many outputs. All series of works span thematically wide arcs from the origins of Greek mythology to the pressing questions of our time: How do we communicate in a community of strangers? How do we make decisions together? How do we take responsibility for ourselves and for others? Their works go beyond the boundaries of dance and theatre and deal with individual participation and the social everyday in artistic events.
In this episode of Wording Dances, Brazilian dancer and choreographer Marcelo Evelin invites Neguxa Uau, an artist, performer and influencer from Teresina, to read to us "Life is life, and life is babado", a text which he wrote at our invitation. Marcelo lives between Teresina and Amsterdam, and works in Brazil, Japan and many European countries as an independent artist. He coordinates the Demolition Incorporada Platform, based in CAMPO, a Performing Arts Residency and Resistance space in Teresina, Piauí. Marcelo began working as a choreographer in 1989 and has a body of work comprising more than 30 pieces, of which Barricada, A Invenção da Maldade [The Invention of Evilness] and ai, ai, ai are still touring. He teaches at the Amsterdam University of the Arts since 1999 and is responsible for artistic creation projects at universities and master's courses, such as ISAC (Higher School of Arts and Choreography of Brussels), the Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid), EXERCE (Montpellier) and Centre National de la Danse (Paris). In 2019, he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa by the Federal University of Piauí. His works are performed in theatres and festivals all over the world, such as Festival d'Automne (Paris), Kunsten Festival des Arts (Brussels), Teatro Rivoli (Porto) or Festival Alkantara (Lisbon), where this year he presents Demolition Incorporada's latest piece, UIRAPURU.

Wording Dances presents a series of episodes, both in english and portuguese, where renowned artists from the international contemporary dance scene discuss matters which make of dancing and choreographing an inexhaustible terrain of experimentation, problematization and thinking. In a co-production between Estúdios Victor Cordon and Parasita Association, it is curated by Carlos Manuel Oliveira.
In this episode of Wording Dances, English dancer and choreographer Siobhan Davies reads to us "Postcards from a life which dances", a text which she wrote exclusively for this occasion. Davies is engaged with image gathering, drawing, writing and conversation as extensions of dance and choreography. She has been active for over 50 years, making work for both theatres and galleries and, in 2006, together with architect Sarah Wigglesworth, created the Siobhan Davies Dance Studios, in London. She retired from the studios in 2020, but remains an associate professor at Coventry University (Cdare).
