In this very personal episode of Faith Beyond the Noise, I step away from teaching and discussion to share something much closer to my heart—my own journey of faith.

From growing up in a home where faith was part of everyday life, to navigating the challenges, questions, struggles, and experiences that have shaped my relationship with God, I share some of the defining moments that have brought me to where I am today.

Throughout my journey, I've discovered something powerful: Some of my greatest encounters with God didn't happen inside the walls of a church, but in those personal moments when I chose to seek Him for myself.

I'll share how my experiences with faith, religion, and the church have shaped my understanding of what it truly means to follow Jesus—and ultimately what led me to start this podcast.

As we conclude our Getting Beyond the Noise series, my hope is that sharing my story will encourage you to look beyond the religious noise and discover that a genuine relationship with God is personal, real, and available to everyone.

This is my story. This is my journey. And this is why Faith Beyond the Noise began.

In this episode of Faith Beyond the Noise, Dave Thomson explores Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:24–27 and the story of two builders—one who built his house on rock and another who built on sand.

Both built. Both faced the storm. The difference was the foundation.

Using the incredible engineering behind some of the world’s tallest structures as a backdrop, Dave unpacks a simple truth: if you want to build high, you have to build deep.

What does it actually mean to make God’s Word the bedrock of your life? How do we move beyond simply hearing Scripture to actually living it? And what happens when the storms of life put our foundation to the test?

n this episode, we talk about the fear, shame, and excuses people carry when it comes to approaching God. Whether you’re thinking, “I’m not good enough for God to use me” or “God wouldn’t want somebody like me”—the story sounds different, but the message is the same.

From not knowing enough Bible or not praying “well,” to feeling like your past disqualifies you, to thinking you’d never fit in at church—these are all variations of one lie: “I’m disqualified.”

Join us as we unpack how that lie keeps people stuck, and what God’s invitation really looks like for real people with real struggles.

In the very first episode of Faith Beyond the Noise, Dave explores the difference between Jesus and the religious noise that can sometimes surround Him.

Looking at how Jesus interacted with religious leaders, sinners, outsiders, and people who didn’t seem to belong, we ask some challenging questions about legalism, tradition, judgment, grace, and what it actually means to represent Jesus well.

This isn’t about compromising Scripture or changing what we believe. It’s about asking whether we've always represented Him well to the community around us.

Have we drifted away from what Jesus intended His Church to be?

In this episode, we take a closer look at the Greek word ekklesia, commonly translated as “church,” and discover that the Church was never meant to be simply a building, institution, or religious organization, but a gathering of people called together in Christ.

Looking at Acts 2:42 and the birth of the early Christian Church, we explore the priorities of the apostles as they established these first communities of believers: biblical teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer.

How do those priorities compare with what we see in the modern Church today? Have we complicated something Jesus intended to be much simpler?
