Surprise! We’re moving to our new home at SiriusXM next week, and that means all episodes will now drop on BOTH main and premium feeds on the same day! To close the gap, our next episode is available to listen right now.

Listeners, we’ve officially logged on! This week we’re gazing into the blue light of our very first “screen life” movie, the type of Found Footage horror where computers are cursed and pop-ups can kill you.

Have you ever Skyped with a demon? What if there was a goblin on your Facebook wall? Does anyone still even use Gchat? These websites and more, haunted on today’s episode.

Next week, we’re adding a surprise episode to the miniseries…and going back to space! Tune in for the 2013 Sebastián Cordero found footage surveillance film, EUROPA REPORT. Chronicle (2012)25 Aug 202501:57:29

What if an asshole got superpowers? Would he save the world? Or just prank old ladies and do sick magic tricks to impress chicks at the talent show?

This week it’s Josh Trank’s found footage superhero film where a pothead, a burnout, and an aspiring class president become invincible (and fly!) What could go wrong?

Next week we kick off our screen life era (!!) with Levan Gabriadze’s UNFRIENDED (2014). Join the conversation on our Discord at https://discord.com/invite/RssDc3brsx and get more Eye of the Duck on our Patreon show, After Hours https://www.patreon.com/EyeoftheDuckPod

The LEGO Batman Movie (2017)23 Jun 202502:19:00

It took 83 years, but we finally got a movie about the Dark Knight facing his ultimate villain… The Eye of Sauron? Voiced by Jemaine Clement?

This week it’s another LEGO animated spectacular, but it’s NOT a bonus, because Batman is the main character! It’s a rom-com, a musical, a father/son drama, and above all, an excuse for Warner Bros to dump all their IP into one toy box. And somehow, it actually works!!

Next week it’s the final film of our Batseries, THE BATMAN (2022). Join the conversation on our Discord at https://discord.com/invite/RssDc3brsx and get more Eye of the Duck on our Patreon show, After Hours https://www.patreon.com/EyeoftheDuckPod

The Green Knight (2021) Revisited09 Oct 202302:11:21

Bonus!! It’s been 2 whole years, and we’re doing something we’ve never done before….back in 2021 we shared a rare in-person screening of David Lowery’s THE GREEN KNIGHT right in the midst of the pandemic. It was a whirlwind (the projector was out of focus for most of it). Now that we’ve given the movie a proper (and very thorough) viewing, we couldn’t resist reevaluating it for this series. Off with yer head!

Willow (1988) with Desmond Thorne25 Sep 202302:05:31

Somehow...George Lucas has returned! And also, our old friend, Desmond Thorne. Join us this week for a journey into the land of Ron Howard's WILLOW, where Queen Bavmorda of Nockmaar reigns, Warwick Davis delights, and babe-era Val Kilmer smolders. We're just about at the end of our series. But you can't close the book on '80s Dark Fantasy without unpacking Lucas's very own entry into the genre.

The Princess Bride (1987)18 Sep 202302:03:04

Inconceivable! As we near the end of the 80s, one (kind of) dark fantasy movie stands proudly in our way...PRINCESS BRIDE! It may not be the most brooding or atmospheric of the pack, but there's simply no way we couldn't dissect this all-time genre highlight.

Highlander (1986) with Philip Gawthorne (Die Hard on a Blank)04 Sep 202302:04:05

There can only be one. And he's with us this week for HIGHLANDER! It's screenwriter, playwright, and co-host of the very good Die Hard on a Blank podcast, Philip Gawthorne. From bonkers accents, to decapitations, to the exact number of smashed panes of glass, we go long on what may very well be the most insane movie of the 1980s. The quickening is upon us.

Finally, a movie that considers, what if WIZARD OF OZ was a complete nightmare?

The LEGO Movie (2014)16 Jun 202502:06:17

Bonus!! Remember in BATMAN BEGINS when Christian Bale says he’s going to build back Wayne Manor, brick by brick? That was actually a reference to THE LEGO MOVIE!

Yes, we’re talking about bricks today. And not just because LEGO is part of Adam’s origin story. There’s a Batman in this film! So we’re required to talk about him!

Next week, it’s Chris McKay’s bat/brick spinoff, THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE. Join the conversation on our Discord at https://discord.com/invite/RssDc3brsx and get more Eye of the Duck on our Patreon show, After Hours https://www.patreon.com/EyeoftheDuckPod

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) with Griffin Newman (Blank Check) and Connor Ratliff (Dead Eyes)17 Jul 202302:45:49

[Whip sound!!!!] Today we rewind through a fissure in time and return to our Indiana Jones miniseries for one last movie. Joining us to explore DIAL OF DESTINY are returning guests, Griffin Newman and Connor Ratliff, who you might know as the hosts of The George Lucas Talk Show.

Covered in this (very long) discussion: Griffin's franchise exhaustion, Connor's Indy watching order, the hubris of Disney's de-aging tech, the late careers of Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, and, of course, the enduring mysteries of George Lucas.

Conan the Barbarian (1982)10 Jul 202302:19:31

Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of...it's the big one, duck-heads. John Milius's CONAN may not be the most subtle movie. But it's the start of something big, awesome, and unshakeable. Let us tell you of the days of high adventure!

Excalibur (1981)26 Jun 202301:54:04

Podcasters of the round table, assemble. John Boorman's EXCALIBUR may be a bit grittier and more 1970s-esque than the bulk of the '80s Dark Fantasy films on our slate. But the genre (and many actors' careers) simply does not exist without it. Also, this technically counts as our second Grail quest movie.

WALL-E (2008)05 Jun 202301:57:13

It's a classic romantic comedy. Lonely trash robot meets sentient space probe. You'll laugh. You'll cry. Your soul will be shattered and jettisoned into the abyss.

Our last movie of Eye of the Duck: A Space Odyssey is WALL-E. So you know we had to leave you (and ourselves) in an emotional black hole. Thanks, Pixar.

The Martian (2015)29 May 202302:08:38

When Ridley Scott goes to space, we follow. That's just the rule of our podcast. If you're a longtime listener, a friend of the show, or just someone who's walked past us on the street, you can probably tell how important ALIEN is to our friendship. And this is as close as we're going to get to talking about our beloved Xenomorph in this space series.

The question is, though, you can take the Xenomorph out of the Ridley Scott space movie, but can you take the space movie out of the Xenomorph? Actually, that doesn't make any sense. Matt Damon potato poop

Into the Keatonverse! For this week’s bonus, we’re going meta with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s exceedingly self aware Oscar-winner that’s definitely not about Batman or Michael Keaton’s career.

What do we talk about when we talk about Batman? Listen to find out.

Deep Impact (1998)22 May 202301:54:50

Hold on. There's a whole other movie from 1998 about a doomed crew rocketing to outer space to board an asteroid and cancel humanity's extinction? Really? From the SAME year? It just wouldn't be fair to do ARMAGEDDON without DEEP IMPACT. So here we are. And hey, Elijah Wood's in this one! Rad!

Interstellar (2014)24 Apr 202303:02:10

Murph. We're coming home. Join us this week for one of those "this is why we started this podcast" kind of episodes.

It's no coincidence that Nolan's space epic is coming up right smack dab in the middle of our miniseries. INTERSTELLAR somehow encompasses every space movie ever made...and yet it still manages to be such a singular achievement in the genre. So you better believe we went long this week!

Contact (1997)17 Apr 202302:07:01

This is a space movie! It may only spend a total of like 20 minutes in outer space…but it still counts!

For our first ever Robert Zemeckis film, we’re hanging out with Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, and a very prominent Bill Clinton down on Earth, trying to decode a (potentially problematic) broadcast from far above.

Is this a bonus episode? Even we’re not completely sure.

Ad Astra (2019)10 Apr 202302:10:25

Brad Pitt is a superhero. His superpower? Depression. On this week's episode, we travel to the outer limits of our solar system in search of a very, very, bad dad. A "bad dad-stra," if you will. Really, though, As far as space movies go, it doesn't get much better than this one.

Gravity (2013)03 Apr 202302:19:56

I. Hate. Space. This week we're finally saying the quiet part out loud with Alfonso Cuaron's landmark (and weirdly...forgotten?) space disaster thriller starring Sandra Bullock, and our old friend, George Clooney. It's the 10 year anniversary of GRAVITY this year. Lets get some 3D IMAX screenings going, please!!

Sunshine (2007)27 Mar 202302:11:47

Our sun is dying. Mankind faces extinction. And on this week's episode, we're strapping ourselves to the Icarus 2 (with a payload the size of Manhattan) and attempting to create a star within a star. Should be easy, right? Listen to find out.

**Trick question. There can never be too many Sam Rockwells.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)02 Jun 202503:12:48

The fire rises, brother! This week we conclude our Nolan run with the biggest and most divisive entry in his Batman saga.

Also discussed this week: the origins of Tom Hardy’s infamous Bane voice, whether or not Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character should have just been named Dick Grayson, and…why the hell is Bruce so fucking cruel to Alfred?

Next week it’s bonus time, baby! Alejandro González Iñárritu may not have made a Batman movie per se…but there’s no way we could skip BIRDMAN for this series. First Man (2018)13 Mar 202302:20:47

Ryan Gosling in space. Ryan. Gosling. In. Space. How did this movie not blow up?

On today's episode, we're embarking on the Apollo 11 mission, venturing deep into the abyss of lunar craters both vast and impossibly lonely.

Not to spoil anything, but this is one of those movies that makes us remember why we started this podcast in the first place.

Solaris (2002) with Sarah Welch-Larson (Becoming Alien)27 Feb 202302:04:23

Here we are again, trapped in the conscience-eating orbital pull of Solaris. Except this time, George Clooney (and his exposed ass) are with us. What could go wrong?

Joining us today for a deep-dive on the 2002 Soderbergh remake is our old friend Sarah Welch-Larson. Happy birthday, Sarah!

Solaris (1972)20 Feb 202301:38:46

This week, we drift into the ocean of Tarkovsky’s exceedingly human, empathetic (and definitely anti-2001), SOLARIS.

Or, perhaps, the ocean drifts into us. Who can say? Really, you should watch this movie. It’s a big one.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)06 Feb 202302:46:15

It happened. The episode is here. It's Kubrick's foundational science fiction epic, and we tried our darnedest to contend with it in (nearly 3 hour) podcast form. Even though sorting through the abyss of this movie is kind of like staring at the sun. Or, scraping an alien(?) monolith capable of bestowing knowledge to an entire civilization. To quote Hal, "[We're] afraid, Dave."

It’s our 2 year anniversary, we’ve joined the Morbid Podcast Network, and we couldn’t be happier to be here. For new listeners: welcome to Eye of the Duck! Today is a special (non-series) episode.

Before we embark on new frontiers, we’re looking back on everything we’ve done with the show, and the year 2022 in (mostly) American cinema.

Today we’re highlighting five of our favorite films of the year, and talking about what’s to come now that we’re a network show. 2023, Year of the Duck!

This week, we’re closing the loop on our TOY STORY miniseries, exploring all the many short films and one-offs and micro movies that star the gang from Andy’s room.

Also, OUR NEXT MINISERIES ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Announcement: Eye of the Duck x Morbid20 Jan 202300:10:43

We have some wild news to announce!! Eye of the Duck has joined the Morbid Podcast Network! Our podcast is now available ad-free for Wondery Media subscribers and on Amazon Music.

What does this mean for the future of our show? Well, for starters, it gives us resources to make the best podcast we can make. The feed will remain the same on all podcast platforms––but Amazon/Wondery listeners will get episodes a week early.

A HUGE thanks to Wondery, Amazon Music, and especially Ash and Alaina at Morbid for taking a chance on our little show.

Lightyear (2022) with Griffin Newman (Blank Check)16 Jan 202301:39:00

Griffin Newman returns to Eye of the Duck this week for Pixar’s LIGHTYEAR! And just to be clear, this isn’t a podcast about Buzz Lightyear, the toy. This is a podcast about the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.

The Dark Knight (2008)26 May 202503:36:20

Listeners, you either die a normal film podcast, or live long enough to see your show completely devolve into a Christopher Nolan marathon.

Between Heath Ledger’s legendary turn as the Joker, Nolan’s transformation into an IMAX-first director, and the coolest truck crash in cinema history, there’s so much to explore in this sprawling behemoth of a picture. We went for nearly four hours on this one, and could easily do another four. THE DARK KNIGHT is (still!) just that good!!

Next week, our Nolan era comes to a climactic finish with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012). Join the conversation on our Discord at https://discord.com/invite/RssDc3brsx and get more Eye of the Duck on our Patreon show, After Hours https://www.patreon.com/EyeoftheDuckPod

Small Soldiers (1998)09 Jan 202301:58:25

Bonus!! This week we depart the Pixar studio to answer the question, What if Raytheon manufactured children’s toys? It’s Joe Dante’s SMALL SOLDIERS. And we’ll (probably) never get another movie like it. Because everything else is just a toy!

Toy Story 3 (2010)26 Dec 202202:11:20

What is a good death when your God has abandoned you? TOY STORY 3 is courageous enough to explore such questions (insane!!) so we tried our best to contend with them here too on Week 3 of our miniseries. But do we have the courage to leave our beloved Andy behind? Listen to find out. Happy Holidays from Eye of the Duck.
