In this episode of the Exploring Washington State Podcast we sit down with the dynamic and creative force behind White Branches Tea Room, Mr. Matthew White! Matthew has lived a life full of adventure, from driving across the US from Washington to Houston to more recently bringing the magic of theater to the quaint town of Mount Vernon, Washington. Join us as Matthew shares with us his journey as a former merchandise director for Teatro ZinZanni, starting his own business called Brainstorming for events and weddings, and later partnering with Teatro ZinZanni in retail. His love for events eventually led him to the town of Mount Vernon where he found the perfect space to create White Branches. Matthew tells us all about this beautiful space, how he transformed it from an old dinner theater with no stage to a theatrical production venue where guests walk through the stage to get to their seats. We learn about the Cabaret room, a fanciful circus-like space where guests can experience different nighttime ambiances. And of course, we get to hear all about his magical plans for the Villain Queens Cabaret this coming October. We also dive into the inspiration behind the theater's logo, which features a white rabbit jackalope with antlers as branches. Matthew shares how the logo's connection to Wonderland helps guide his decision-making, and we get to hear about some unforgettable events that have taken place within the venue's walls. But more than just a discussion about events and magic, this episode truly showcases Matthew's heart for community. Through his work at White Branches, Matthew wants to empower people to connect and communicate through shared experiences. We talk about the importance of laughter and art, especially during these difficult times. So pour yourself a cup of tea and join us as we journey through the wonderland that is White Branches Tea Room, with the exceptional Matthew White leading the way. | Uncovering the World of Geocaching with Bryan Roth | 14 Sep 2022 | 01:27:36
Bryan Roth's journey into the world of geocaching began when he relocated to Seattle, seeking a fresh start and a life closer to nature. His passion for the unique hobby ignited when his colleagues, Jeremy Irish and Elias Albord, introduced him to the exciting game of geocaching. The global scavenger hunt had just been made possible by the US government's decision to increase GPS accuracy from 300ft to 30ft for recreational users. Inspired by the game's potential and the thrill of being part of a secret club, the trio decided to join forces and launch Geocaching.com. Their collaboration, fueled by dedication and the desire to share the joy of geocaching with the world, transformed a small-scale hobby into a global phenomenon. | Petosa Accordions: 100 Years of Making Music. World Class Instruments | 29 Aug 2022 | 01:46:33
Meet Petosa Accordions Since 1922 this family owned business has been making world class accordions. I was able to sit down with Joe Petosa Jr. (3rd generation), Joey Petosa (4th generation) and Gabe Hall-Rodriguez at the Petosa Accordions showroom. We were surrounded by dozens of historic accordions the enviroment was amazing. Knowing next to nothing about accordions I ask a ton of questions about the history of the instrument, how the accordion works, and much more. The guys were patient with me and it really shows how passionate they are about making world class instruments and providing top shelf training and support to everyone who purchases a Petosa Accordion. This episode was a blast to record and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did. This episode was recorded onsite using new microphones. I was not able to fully dial in the audio levels so there is some audio distortion. Thanks for tuning into this episode of the Exploring Washington State Podcast!
