John Ondrasik (Five For Fighting) Interview: The Day I Died (LAST ELG Interview!)03 Aug 202401:25:09

☕️Buy me a coffee: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support

In this John Ondrasik interview: John's early songwriting was driven by a chip on his shoulder and a desire to be heard. We talked about the autobiographical nature of John's songs, the power of music to impact people's lives, the challenges of the music industry, the importance of speaking out against atrocities, how his ego has helped… and hindered him… and the low points and dark periods in his life. Specifically, being dropped by his record label and had to get a job, and the challenging time he faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. John emphasizes the importance of gratitude, taking care of yourself, and making decisions that align with your values

John Ondrasik, better known as Five For Fighting, is a platinum selling multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. To me, his songwriting is along the lines of the classic songwriters of the 60s & 70s like Elton John and Neil Diamond. John's released 6 studio LPs… has several hundred music licensing placements, many in well-known TV shows and movies… he co-manages his family's business, Precision Wire Products… and he's also an in-demand keynote speaker (watch his TedX presentation)

On this Jeff Schroeder interview, Jeff discusses his new album 'Metanoia' and his decision to leave the Smashing Pumpkins. The album is a departure from his previous work and represents a new era in his musical journey. Jeff reflects on the challenges of leaving a successful band and the process of redefining his identity as a musician, and as a person. He emphasizes the importance of letting go of ego attachments and embracing new opportunities, the importance of being present and enjoying life, the role of passion in your career, the significance of finding your own sound amidst the vast array of gear options available. Jeff shares his interest in mysticism and spirituality, how it has influenced his music and life, the attraction of different cultural philosophies and theologies, the appeal of ambient music, and the process of creating Jeff's new record. Jeff shares his experience of working with friends and the joy of creating something from start to finish, his extensive guitar collection and his approach to production. LOADS of cool stuff here!

Jeff's most well-known as the guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins. He initially took James Iha's place and was with the band from 2007 to his amicable departure in October 2023. He recorded five studio albums with the band and after bandleader Billy Corgan, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, Jeff was the third-longest-serving member of the group. Jeff's got a new album out, called Metanoia… and today we're going to talk about the new record, and find out why he left the Smashing Pumpkins. As a side note, Jeff's one of THE most intelligent guests I've had on the show - very bright guy who's incredibly well-read

Jeff Berlin - Overcoming CHILDHOOD TRAUMA & WHY he DIDN'T JOIN VAN HALEN18 Feb 202301:56:26

Awesome interview, very courageous and sincere

Cool Guitar, Music & ELG T-Shirts!: http://www.GuitarMerch.com

Originally from NYC, Jeff is one of the most highly-regarded jazz and fusion bassists of the modern era, and a well-respected bass educator. He's known for his tone and technique, and has been one of the major figures in firmly establishing the electric bass as a solo instrument. His career took off in 1977 when Yes founding drummer Bill Bruford handpicked him to play in his band. Jeff's other recording and performance credits include a who's who of jazz and rock: Larry Coryell, Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Yes, Eddie Van Halen, Frank Zappa & many more.

Just to address this up front, Jeff's done dozens of interviews on the controversial comments he's made about bass players learning by academic teaching vs being self- taught. We're not going to address this issue, because Jeff's owned a lot of his mistakes here and has made public apologies to the people he needed to. But what we will talk about today is the genesis of what prompted the fairly dramatic shift in his position, and his ongoing emotional recovery from the things that contributed to this situation in the first place.

Von Kopfman, "He was about to COMMIT SUICIDE and then he HEARD THIS PODCAST…"21 Jan 202300:39:51

On this Von Kopfman interview: Von shares the REST of THE STORY about what happened after he came on Everyone Loves Guitar. In hopes of helping others heal from a similar trauma, Von shared something quite heavy - an experience he had at 10 years old, when he was sexually molested by a neighbor. What happened next, was totally unexpected: He received over 500 emails from people around the world - sadly, 400 of them had had similar experiences. He also received an email from someone who told him he was about to commit suicide, but hearing Von's story made him change his mind and seek out help.

You can watch and listen to Von's original interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1qrhsVmqcc

Von Kopfman is a prolific songwriter, guitarist and author, originally from Emporia, Kansas. Recorded his first solo LP in 1994 when he was 29 years old, since that time he's written over 3,000 songs, recorded 36 LPs, including 6 LPs with his band project called Big Daddy Loud - a popular regional rock band in Kansas.

Originally, Von wanted to share his experience with the hopes of potentially motivating and inspiring others to heal, and to not just let the after affects of this trauma, eat you up for the rest of your life. But in reality, what actually happened... was completely unexpected. So I wanted to have Von back on the show to share his post-show experience because it's amazing what happens when you share something so powerful like this. It really touches others.

Cool Guitar, Music & ELG T-Shirts!: http://www.GuitarMerch.com

Robbie is a singer, recording artist, instrumentalist, composer, and songwriter. He is by far, one of the smartest, and most clever lyricists I've had the pleasure of listening to. He's a great storyteller and is able to develop and articulate specific and particular character traits that bring his characters to life. He evokes emotions in you as the listener, about the characters and the very real scenarios of life they find themselves in - which are basically the ups and downs of the common man.

Over the last 26 years, Robbie's released 13 albums. His 2016 record Upland Stories was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album and the song "Alabama at Night" was nominated for a Grammy for Best American Roots Song. Let me just say one thing before we get started - this guy is a national treasure and more people need to be hip to what he's doing. Not to sound like a fanboy, but to combine such meaningful lyrics with such beautiful melodies and Robbie's voice, at this level of excellence... makes him an incredibly rare talent.
