O episódio 26 é uma conversa — e uma caminhada — com a Isabeli Santiago, historiadora de arte, curadora e doutoranda em Estudos Feministas na Universidade de Coimbra, organizadora das Tours Feministas do Porto.

Isabeli vem investigando as dinâmicas de apagamento, silenciamento e distorção da memória das mulheres nas narrativas dominantes da cidade — através de projetos como a Tour Feminista do Porto e a Revista Lina. O seu trabalho parte de um princípio simples e radical: caminhar pode ser, em si mesmo, uma metodologia feminista.

Neste episódio, percorremos um pedaço do Bonfim no Porto, enquanto falamos sobre toponímia, representação no espaço público, fabulação crítica e sobre o que significa escrever a história com o corpo, com a voz, e com a cidade como arquivo.

Episode 26 is a conversation — and a walk — with Isabeli Santiago, art historian, curator, and PhD researcher in Feminist Studies at the University of Coimbra, and one of the organisers of the Feminist Tours of Porto.

Isabeli has been investigating the dynamics of erasure, silencing, and distortion of women's memory in the dominant narratives of the city — through projects like the Feminist Tour of Porto and Revista Lina. Her work starts from a simple and radical premise: walking can itself be a feminist methodology.

In this episode, we walked through a small section of the tour while discussing urban toponymy, representation in public space, critical fabulation, and what it means to write history with your body, your voice, and the city as archive.

O episódio 25 é uma conversa com a arquitecta e investigadora Chloé Darmon sobre as mulheres lavadeiras e o seu apagamento da história da arquitectura e da cidade.
Chloé é licenciada pela Escola Superior de Arquitectura de Paris-Belleville e mestre pela Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto. É actualmente doutoranda na Universidade da Beira Interior com o projecto de tese Infraestruturas de Água: Cartografias espaciais e biografias a partir dos lavadouros públicos. No seu trabalho de investigação, Chloé centra-se nas mulheres lavadeiras — a sua relação com o espaço público, o trabalho que sustentou a economia urbana e as comunidades que construíram — e no modo como o desenho desses espaços nunca as considerou, apesar de toda a sua importância.
Neste episódio, Chloé fala também sobre a exposição Arquitectas da Liberdade, um projecto de curadoria colectiva que documenta o papel das mulheres na luta pelo direito à habitação em Portugal. O fio que atravessa todos estes trabalhos é a ideia de que a cidade não foi desenhada para as mulheres e que parte do trabalho feminista é ir procurar as suas vozes fora dos arquivos convencionais para poder escrever uma história que as inclui. Neste episódio, Chloé lembra-nos que ao ser escrita pela classe privilegiada, a história não só apresenta a sua vivência como experiência universal, como também apaga a classe trabalhadora. As mulheres lavadeiras existiram, trabalharam e o seu legado é fundamental para a compreensão da história de todes.

Episode 25 is a conversation with architect and researcher Chloé Darmon about washerwomen and their erasure from the history of architecture and the city.
Chloé holds a degree from the École Supérieure de Architectura de Paris-Belleville and a master's degree from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Beira Interior with the thesis project Water Infrastructures: Spatial Cartographies and Biographies from Public Washhouses. In her research, Chloé focuses on washerwomen — their relationship with public space, the work that sustained the urban economy and the communities they built — and how the design of these spaces never considered them, despite all their importance.
In this episode, Chloé also talks about the exhibition Architects of Freedom, a collective curatorial project that documents the role of women in the struggle for the right to housing in Portugal. The thread running through all these works is the idea that the city was not designed for women and that part of feminist work is to seek out their voices outside conventional archives in order to write a history that includes them. In this episode, Chloé reminds us that by being written by the privileged class, history not only presents its experience as universal, but also erases the working class. The washerwomen existed, they worked, and their legacy is fundamental to understanding everyone's history.

Este episódio é uma conversa com as designers e editoras Nina Paim (Bikini Books) e a Tereza Bettinardi (Clube do Livro do Design) sobre o processo de criação e publicação do livro Briar Levit: On design, feminism and friendship / Briar Levit: Sobre Design, Feminismo e Amizade que estas amigas estão a coeditar. O livro está a ser publicado em simultâneo em português e inglês e conta a história da designer e educadora americana que transita pela sala de aula, pela escrita, pela edição, pelos arquivos e pelos documentários. Este livro é o primeiro de muitos da editora feminista Bikini Books, fundada no Porto por Nina Paim em 2023, em co-edição com O Clube do Livro do Design, fundado em 2021 por Tereza Bettinardi em São Paulo e que conta já com 5 livros publicados especializada em traduzir e publicar livros sobre criatividade, design e tecnologia. Nesta confabulação, estas três amigas discutiram a dinâmica da colaboração no processo criativo, falaram sobre políticas de tradução e a importância do trabalho feminista mas, sobretudo, sobre amizade, respeito e livros. 

This episode brings to the public a conversation between designers and publishers Nina Paim (Bikini Books) and Tereza Bettinardi (Clube do Livro do Design) about the process of creating and publishing the book Briar Levit: On design, feminism and friendship / Briar Levit: Sobre Design, Feminismo e Amizade that these friends are co-editing. The book is being published simultaneously in Portuguese and English and tells the story of the American designer and educator and moves through the classroom, writing, editing, archives and documentaries. This book is the first of many from Porto-based feminist publisher Bikini Books, founded by Nina Paim in 2023, in co-edition with São Paulo-based O Clube do Livro do Design, founded in 2021 by Tereza Bettinardi which has 5 books published specialising in translating and publishing books about creativity, design and technology. This confab between three friends discussed the dynamics of collaboration in the creative process, talked about translation politics, and touched on the importance of feminist work, but it was above all about friendship, respect, and books.

A Lizá Défossez Ramalho é designer, portuense, co-fundadora do atelier R2 com Artur Rebelo. Os R2 especializaram-se em identidade gráfica, design editorial e design ambiental para instituições culturais, museus e outros clientes, nacionais e internacionais. São membros da AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale), e organizaram o AGI Open no Porto em 2010. Em 2019 o Centro de Arte Oliva, em São João da Madeira, dedicou-lhes uma exposição intitulada 'Fabrico Suspenso: Itinerários de Trabalho' onde se podiam ver processos de construção e de experimentação gráfica e artística.

Nesta conversa a Lizá partilhou como foi identificando algumas disparidades de género de forma cumulativa ao longo da sua carreira, formas como age sob desigualdades que observa e como a experiência lhe trouxe maturidade e confiança para poder combater as micro, mas muitas agressões sexistas nesta área de trabalho.

Lizá Défossez Ramalho is a designer from Porto, co-founder of the design studio R2 with Artur Rebelo. R2 specializes in graphic identity, editorial design and environmental design for cultural institutions, museums and other national and international clients. They are AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) members and organized the AGI Open in Porto in 2010. In 2019, the Centro de Arte Oliva dedicated an exhibition to their work entitled 'Fabrico Suspenso: Work itineraries' where they showed the processes of graphic and artistic experimentation behind some projects. 

In this conversation, Lizá shared how she identified some gender disparities cumulatively throughout her career, how she acts on the inequalities she observes, and how the experience brought her maturity and confidence to fight the micro, but many sexist aggressions in this work area.

A Denise Santos é uma mulher negra e designer, e é também a convidada do episódio 14 onde falamos sobre a falta de representatividade de corpos negros no mundo do design, da importância de uma leitura interseccional na história, de micro e macro agressões, e de como a Denise navega este mundo, através de uma reflexão sobre o seu percurso académico.  Com o projecto "Bisnetos de Cabral, a viagem de uma designer" Denise investiga questões identitárias através de artefactos de arquivo no contexto cabo-verdiano e reflecte sobre a sua identidade como mulher negra. Atualmente é designer de comunicação e criadora de conteúdos para as redes sociais do espaço Hangar em Lisboa. Denise Santos, black woman and designer, is the guest of episode 14 where we talk about the lack of representation of black bodies in the world of design, the importance of an intersectional reading in history, micro and macro aggressions, and how Denise navigates this world, through a reflection on her academic journey. With the project "Bisnetos de Cabral, a designer's journey" Denise investigates identity issues through archival artefacts in the Cape Verdean context and reflects on her identity as a black woman. She is currently a communication designer and content creator for social media at the Hangar space in Lisbon.

Episode 13 presents a compelling conversation with researcher and artist Ece Canlı about queer design, collective work and the importance of interrupting history, but mainly about feminism. Ece brought a sincere perspective on how feminism affects the ways in which we work, interact with our loved ones, in how we care and in how we manifest ourselves politically. One word was repeated a few times: justice. This was a conversation about how we might fight for it, how to achieve it and the different forms it can take. / O episódio 13 com a artista e investigadora Ece Canlı apresenta uma conversa sobre queer design, trabalho coletivo, sobre a importância das interrupções à história, mas sobretudo sobre feminismo. A perspectiva da Ece sobre como o feminismo afeta a forma como trabalhamos, interagimos com os nossos entes queridos, na forma como cuidamos e na forma como nos manifestamos politicamente é inspiradora. A palavra justiça foi repetida algumas vezes durante o episódio: discutimos sobre como a podemos alcançar, como podemos lutar por ela, e as diferentes formas como a justiça se manifesta. 

No episódio 12 fui conversar com a Carolina Valente Pinto. A Carolina é designer e investigadora e trabalha actualmente no Institute of Network Cultures, em Amesterdão. A sua investigação está frequentemente ligado a temas como o feminismo, práticas descoloniais, arquivos, acesso, História, e culturas autonómas e DIY. Neste episódio falamos sobre como se perpetuam invisibilidades, especificamente a das mulheres, na construção, gestão e manutenção de arquivos, questionamos a neutralidade dos espaços de memória e documentação e discutimos o papel do feminismo nestes lugares./For episode 12 I spoke with Carolina Valente Pinto. Carolina is a designer and researcher and currently works at the Institute of Network Cultures, in Amsterdam. Her research is often linked to topics such as feminism, decolonial practices, archives, access, history, autonomous and DIY cultures. In this episode we talk about how invisibilities are perpetuated, specifically that of women, in the construction, management and maintenance of archives, question the neutrality of memory and documentation spaces and discuss the role of feminism in these places.

No episódio 11 conversei com a designer, poeta e escritora Gabriela do Amaral. Com três livros publicados, Gabriela acredita que foi o seu caminho no design que a levou a escrever e que as duas práticas andam de mãos dadas. Gabriela escreve sobre língua, exílio e maternidade, sempre com uma lente feminista. Neste episódio discutimos como o ciclo de produção silencia a experiência da maternidade, como sentimos que incomodamos quando falamos sobre sermos mães e o contraste entre a expectativa e a realidade no design e na maternidade. / For episode 11 I had a chat with designer, poet and writer Gabriela do Amaral. After publishing three books, Gabriela believes that it was her path through design that lead her to writing and that the two practices go hand in hand. Gabriela writes about language, exile and maternity, always under a feminist lenses. In this episode, we discussed how the production cycle silences the experience of maternity, how we feel that we bother when we talk about being mothers and the contrast between expectation and reality in design and maternity. 

No episódio 10 conversei com a designer, editora e educadora Tereza Bettinardi. Com uma carreira muito associada ao design editorial, Tereza tem hoje o seu estúdio próprio em São Paulo no Brasil. Recentemente montou o Clube do Livro de Design, uma aventura que começou como um grupo de leitura e hoje é uma editora. Nesta conversa falamos sobre como relaciona o feminismo e o design, sobre discriminação de género e de classe, sobre a importância de literatura em português e sobre muitas outras coisas que a inquietam e como esse desconforto a motiva a agir. / In episode 10 I had a chat with designer, editor and educator Tereza Bettinardi. From her own studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Tereza specialises in editorial design. Recently, she founded The Design Book Club, an adventure that started as a book club and has now become a publisher. In our conversation, we discussed how she connects feminism with design, gender and class discrimination, the importance of literature in the Portuguese language, amongst other things which trouble her, and how that discomfort motivates her to act.
