| 68. Subtext: Jesse Lacey: A Pattern of Betrayal, Coercion, and Grooming | 16 Oct 2024 | 00:16:50 | |
"Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades" was one of the breakout songs for Long Island band Brand New but it could just as easily be a description of their long running career. The dizzying heights the band had reached in the mid to late 2000’s all came crashing down in 2017 when allegations of grooming and sexual misconduct against singer Jesse Lacey were made public. In this episode Kendra and Rich dive into some of those allegations and how little the music landscape has changed since they came to light. REFERENCES

| 27. Subtext: The Trouble With Kanye | 07 Dec 2022 | 00:25:17 | |
In this episode of subtext, we discuss a man who has been dominating the 24 hr news cycle for the last month, Kanye West. While his anti-semetic comments have halted his career, we dive into his problematic and abusive behaviors towards women, specifically his stalking of ex wife Kim Kardashian. A quick note about the timing of this episode: After several months of planning a subtext episode with Kanye West as the subject, Kendra and I recorded the episode on November 22nd. The next day, Rolling Stone magazine printed a longform expose detailing a years-long pattern of emotional and psychological abuse and inappropriate business practices perpetrated by Kanye. While we were not able to discuss these allegations during the episode, we feel that it reinforces everything we say and should be taken in tandem with what we discuss. - REFERENCES:
