Small Shrimp + Big Faith in Honduras, with Jeremy Wainwright – EM27810 Mar 202100:41:50
Isn't it just like God to use something seemingly small, like shrimp, to make a MASSIVE impact in the Kingdom?
It might seem like Jeremy Wainwright just suddenly decided to make a change, but really, God was working in his heart long before his friend said, "Would you like to go to Honduras?"
It didn't take him long to decide that this was the opportunity God was giving him and that trip changed EVERYTHING. Now Jeremy has started Shrimp Matters and is actively working with partners in the United States as well as Honduras to bring sustainable shrimp farming to communities.
His work, despite the challenges of COVID-19, is making a difference, and he believes that God has more!
It was exciting to talk with Jeremy and I believe you'll be as encouraged as I was.
Listen to Discover
  • When God started working on Jeremy's heart
  • How key relationships have helped Jeremy along the way
  • The power of waiting patiently, trusting that God is moving
  • How Jeremy has grown as a Believer and as a leader
  • What impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on their shrimp farm
  • Jeremy's heart for ministry led by the local Church
  • What a small payment, a $100 bill, and shrimp have to do with the Kingdom
  • And much, much more

On this episode, Ann White joins to talk about her story and how she became interested in making a female audio Bible.

Through processing her own trauma and working with incarcerated women, Ann found the need for people to hear the Bible in a woman’s voice. Refugee, Gangbanger, Missionary: How to See With Eyes of Faith, with Tobias – EM16226 Oct 201600:54:24

Tobias came to the United States as a refugee. As a teenager, he was an angry gangbanger until God transformed his life. Now he's a missionary to Southeast Asia, watching God do amazing things.

A former gangbanger turned missionary (we’ll call him Tobias) joins us today to talk about his ministry experiences in Southeast Asia as well as his personal testimony. Having grown up as a refugee in the States, he knows what it is like to be seen as the outsider. Thankfully, God placed a Christian couple in his life who shared the Good News of what Christ had done. From God’s work in his life, he left the life of drugs and violence to follow Jesus.

Tobias now works in a southeastern area of Asia, bringing the story of Jesus to different people groups. In the episode, he discusses the importance of understanding the cultural context and also encourages us to find cross-cultural experience in our very own neighborhoods. His passion for making disciples for the Kingdom is evident as he shares his stories and experiences.

How to Hunger and Thirst for Justice in a Community, with Gena Thomas, Author of A Smoldering Wick – EM16119 Oct 201600:40:56

Many approach missions and aid work from the foundation of charity. Gena Thomas shares how the foundation of justice is better. Listen for practical tips and powerful concepts to make your next missions trip better.

Subscribe to the Show: https://engagingmissions.com/subscribe

Learning to seek justice for a community can be extremely messy, but also beautiful and balanced. Gena Thomas joins us to talk about pursuing right relationships with short-term missions and missions in general. The topics throughout the episode come primarily from her new book, A Smoldering Wick, which focuses on charity versus justice within the missions world.

Her ideas and thoughts bring to light the issues that come from simply giving handouts to the poor. We tend to see ourselves as having more than them, which makes the relationship imbalanced. A just and righteous form of missions, however, brings about “right relationships.” Gena clearly presents how we as believers can seek such justice and why it is so crucial to the Gospel of Christ.

The Unsaved Christian: Reaching Cultural Christianity with the Gospel, with Dean Inserra – EM26424 Jul 201900:32:44

Many people think they are Christian but have never heard the Gospel. Dean Inserra joins the show to talk about “cultural Christianity” and how to reach these people with Jesus. In his new book, The Unsaved Christian, he talks about different forms of unsaved Christianity. These people are not just “baby Christians,” but of a separate religion all together.

We have to make sure that we’re not advocating for a morality. We’re advocating for a worship, really, for a following of Christ. They’re two very different things.Dean Inserra
