016: Humanity Is the Missing Leadership Edge with April Sim

mercredi 22 avril 2026Duration 48:27

This conversation is about leadership.

Not the version built on control, metrics, and hierarchy—but the version built on humanity.

In this episode, I sit down with April Sim, a multi-unit restaurant owner who is leading in one of the most demanding industries—and doing it differently.

We explore what happens when you stop leading at people and start leading with them.

April shares the moment everything shifted for her. On paper, everything looked right—strong numbers, clear systems, solid execution. But the feedback she received wasn’t about performance. It was about how the space felt.

That’s when she realized something was missing.

We talk about the illusion that operations alone create success, and why that model breaks when people don’t feel connected, valued, or supported.

April walks us through her five-pillar framework—trust, recognition, belonging, fairness, and purpose—and how these pillars don’t replace performance… they stabilize and amplify it.

We also explore the difference between power and authority, why recognition is one of the fastest ways to shift behavior, and how belonging—not pay—is often the reason people stay or leave.

And we go deeper into something I think is critical: preparing the next generation before they enter the workforce.

Because by the time someone gets their first job, they’re not starting fresh—they’re carrying patterns.

This conversation is a reframe on what leadership actually is.

It’s not about managing outcomes.

It’s about building people who can create them.

Energy first. Strategy second.

✨ Takeaways

  • Humanity is not a replacement for performance—it is what sustains it
  • Operations create structure, but people determine whether it works
  • Turnover is often a symptom of disconnection, not capability
  • Trust creates safety for questions, mistakes, and growth
  • Recognition must be specific to reinforce behavior
  • Belonging is what keeps people engaged—not just present
  • Fairness is not treating everyone the same—it’s giving people what they need to succeed
  • Purpose connects people to meaning, not just metrics
  • Power gets short-term results—authority creates long-term performance
  • When people feel supported, performance becomes stable and natural
  • Most leaders try to fix problems before they truly understand them
  • Asking questions is a skill—and one that must be practiced intentionally
  • You don’t build strong teams by managing—you build them by developing leaders
  • The workforce doesn’t lack work ethic—it lacks preparation
  • If we teach humanity earlier, we build leaders sooner

015: Life Without Mirrors

mercredi 15 avril 2026Duration 27:08

This episode is about mirrors.

Not just the physical ones. The energetic ones.

In this episode, I explore the question: what would change if you lived a life with no mirrors? No reflection. No feedback. No scanning for how something landed.

Because the truth is, mirrors are everywhere. People’s reactions. Social media responses. Silence. Tone. Approval. Disapproval. All of it.

And most of us are not using mirrors as information. We are using them as instruction.

I share a simple moment where I saw my reflection after hours of being out in the world and realized nothing about me had changed—only my relationship to what I saw did.

We talk about how mirrors moved from curiosity to meaning to identity, and how easily we begin to shape shift based on what is reflected back to us.

I also share a personal example with my kids to illustrate this in real time—how the same expression can be received completely differently depending on the mirror, and why that does not mean anything about who you are.

This episode is not about eliminating mirrors.

It’s about loosening your grip on them.

And remembering that reflection is not truth.

Energy first. Strategy second.

Takeaways:

  • A mirror doesn’t show you truth—it shows a reflection filtered through perspective
  • Most people use mirrors as instruction instead of neutral information
  • Reflection → interpretation → identity is where distortion happens
  • You are not seeing yourself—you are seeing a version of yourself
  • People’s reactions, feedback, and silence are all mirrors
  • If you rely on mirrors, you will constantly shapeshift to maintain approval
  • Nothing about you changes—only the reflection does
  • Not every reaction is feedback—sometimes it’s timing, context, or someone else’s lens
  • You can intentionally remove mirrors (like closing your eyes) to stay anchored in your truth
  • Mirrors create connection and awareness—but they should not define you
  • You are not here to be approved by the mirror—you are here to express
  • The goal is not to eliminate mirrors, but to stop outsourcing your identity to them
  • Stop performing for consistency in reflection and start trusting consistency in self

006: This or That

mercredi 11 février 2026Duration 24:22

In this episode, I unpack one of the most subtle but powerful games we are taught to play early in life: this or that.

It starts innocently. Ice cream or cake. Snow or ocean. But over time, that binary thinking quietly shapes the way we approach the biggest decisions of our lives. Love or money. Business or family. Success or peace. Visibility or privacy.

I share a personal story about a moment when a major business opportunity directly conflicted with a commitment I had already made to my daughter. What looked like a forced choice was actually an initiation. Not a test. Not a punishment. An invitation to prove to myself who I was when the stakes were real.

This episode is about dissolving false binaries, releasing the pressure to choose, and learning how integration actually works. Not by force. Not by strategy. But by trust. February’s energy asks us to go beyond logic and stop collapsing parts of ourselves that were never meant to compete.

You do not get both by trying to have both. You get both by becoming someone who will not abandon themselves for either.

✨ Takeaways

  • Binary thinking is learned early and quietly shapes major life decisions
  • Some questions assume separation where none exists
  • Either or thinking is often logical but energetically untrue
  • When there is a question mark in your field, expansion pauses
  • Initiations often feel like pressure before they feel like reward
  • You stop receiving ultimatums when you prove you will not abandon yourself
  • Choice is not a one time decision. It is a present tense practice
  • Compartmentalization helps you survive but can limit expansion
  • Values are living and evolve as you do
  • Integration does not come from force. It comes from curiosity
  • Tug of war between parts of your life leads to exhaustion, not clarity
  • Dropping the rope creates space for a new configuration
  • February especially invites integration over decision making
  • Replacing or with and changes both language and energy

Explore Your And
If this episode stirred something for you, if you can feel where you’ve been living inside a this or that, you don’t have to figure out how to integrate it on your own.

In my 1-1 work, we look at where your life has been pulled into compartments, what’s actually active in your chart right now, and how the parts of you that feel like they’re competing can start working together instead. This isn’t about choosing one side or forcing a decision, it’s about finding the sweet spot where things meet and letting a new configuration emerge.

005: You Can’t Outwork What You Won’t Feel: Well Resourced Leadership with Mandy Balak

mercredi 4 février 2026Duration 52:30

This episode is a conversation about leadership beyond the noise.

Not louder leadership.

Not faster leadership.

Well resourced leadership.

I’m joined by Mandy Balak, Experience Designer for Well-Resourced Leadership, president of The Gathering Festival, author of Chasing Enough, and the host of The Well Podcast. We talk about what it actually takes to lead with capacity instead of performance, and why you cannot outwork what you will not feel.

Mandy breaks down her leadership equation, resources vs demands, and how to tell when you are spiraling into creativity or spiraling into reactivity. We talk about why a spa day does not fix chronic depletion, why leadership is clarity and questions more than it is answers, and what it means to become the CEO of your life internally, not just on paper.

We also go deep on phones, distraction, and what happens when you finally unplug. Not as an escape from your life, but as part of the work. Presence is the advantage.

✨ Takeaways

  • Leadership is clarity. When the world gets noisy, your job is to pause, realign, and communicate vision.
  • The strongest leaders do not always talk the most. They ask better questions and create environments where others can thrive.
  • Confidence and truth are different frequencies. Discernment is part of leadership.
  • The opposite of overwhelm is capacity. Not calm. Capacity is the feeling of I have room.
  • Your inner child will run your life until you become the CEO of your life. Enough is not a destination. It is a practice.
  • Phones leak your energy. If you do not choose presence, the space will be filled.
  • Unplugging is not a reward. It is part of the work.

004: February Energy Forecast: Beyond Logic

mercredi 28 janvier 2026Duration 35:48

Welcome to January 37th. Or January 42nd. However you’re counting.

This episode is the February energy forecast and a reminder of why knowing the energy ahead of time changes everything. January was never meant to feel like a true beginning. It was a waiting room. A soft launch. And when you know that, you stop resisting it and start using it.

In this episode, I break down what makes February different. A clean, contained 28-day cycle with no excess and no wiggle room. February moves fast and it rewards clarity, structure, and energetic precision. I talk about why this month is not about certainty but curiosity, why structure creates freedom, and how communication, intuition, and discernment become your greatest advantages.

February asks you to go beyond logic. Not by abandoning your mind, but by learning to read what is unspoken, symbolic, and already communicating beneath the surface. This is a month for tracking intuition, noticing patterns, and learning your own energetic language so you stop outsourcing meaning and start trusting what you already know.

✨ Takeaways:

  • January was not a false start. It was preparation.
  • February is efficient, fast-moving, and demands clarity.
  • Structure creates freedom this month. You cannot bypass it.
  • Everyone runs on a unique weekly energetic cycle. Observing yours changes everything.
  • The goal is not certainty. Curiosity is the way through.
  • Logic is the doorway, not the destination.
  • Intuition speaks in shortcuts, symbols, and sensations, not paragraphs.
  • Being intuitive is not an advantage unless you listen, track, and stay curious.
  • Signs and symbols are personal. Meaning emerges through repetition, not Google.
  • Smart sabotage looks productive, clean, and impressive but drains your energy.
  • Confidence and truth are not the same frequency.
  • February rewards discernment between what sounds right and what is real.
  • Depth beats breadth as the new year truly begins on February 17.

003: Metrics That Matter

mercredi 21 janvier 2026Duration 26:16

Let’s talk about metrics.

I know. The word alone can feel boring, corporate, or like someone asking you to track KPIs while your soul quietly exits the room. But here’s the truth. Metrics are one of the biggest energetic advantages you can have right now.

In this episode, I reframe metrics as orientation, not judgment. Metrics are not here to tell you who you are, they tell you where you are. And in a year that requires clear leadership, knowing where you actually stand matters.

Join me to hear why tracking the wrong metrics drains your energy, how vanity metrics quietly pull you out of alignment, and why the metrics that truly matter to you are part of your energetic advantage. This is about learning to track both numbers and energy without shame, without bypassing, and without outsourcing your definition of success.

Metrics are not rules.
They are mirrors.

✨ Takeaways

  • Metrics are feedback, not judgment. They orient you to reality.
  • If you are not tracking anything, that is energetic bypassing.
  • The most powerful metrics include both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • A metric that drains you is not an advantage, even if it is correct.
  • Vanity metrics feed the ego but rarely change behavior.
  • When you do not know your own metrics, you outsource your power.
  • Tracking what matters to you collapses fantasy and reveals truth.
  • Leadership requires honesty, not perfection.
  • Metrics become supportive when you stop tying them to your worth.

002: Lessons from a Hot Air Balloon

mercredi 21 janvier 2026Duration 23:35

This episode takes you 3,000 feet into the air with me. Literally.

What I thought would be a beautiful sunrise experience in Sedona turned into a live energetic masterclass on leadership, fear, trust, intuition, and timing. A hot air balloon ride became the clearest example I’ve ever witnessed of what it looks like to lead with energetic precision instead of certainty.

In this episode, I share four core lessons I learned mid-air from our pilot, Mike. Lessons about misidentified fear, the intelligence of the body, the evolution of fire, and what it really means to lead when you do not know exactly where you are going to land.

This is not a metaphor for business.
This is leadership in the wild.

✨ Takeaways

  • Most people think they’re afraid of the wrong thing
  • Your body reads energy faster than your brain.
  • Tools support intuition. They should not replace it.
  • Strategy without somatic awareness disconnects you from real-time truth.
  • Fire does not always mean acceleration. Sometimes fire is what keeps you steady and brings you home.
  • Your ambition evolves as you do. If the fire feels different, it may be maturing, not fading.
  • You do not need certainty to lead well. You need trust, calibration, and a team that moves with you.
  • Leadership is not about having the plan. It is about reading the wind and giving the next right instruction.

001: Your Energetic Advantage is Here

mercredi 21 janvier 2026Duration 25:15

Welcome to the first episode of Energetic Advantage.

In this episode, I’m starting at the very beginning, sharing where this work actually comes from, long before I had language for it. I’ve always seen patterns, felt timelines, and noticed what was happening beneath the surface. Not in a loud way. Just in a correct way.

I walk through how my energetic advantage showed up in childhood, in finance, on cruise ships, in corporate leadership, and eventually in the work I do now. I share what an energetic advantage actually is, why every person has one, and why so many people stop using theirs without even realizing it.

This episode is about recognizing the way your energy naturally moves and what changes when you stop fighting it and start leading with it.

Energy first. Strategy second.

✨ Takeaways

  • Your energetic advantage is the way your energy naturally perceives, moves, and impacts the world.
  • Most people suppress their advantage to maintain connection or avoid standing out.
  • You can consciously choose when to use your full advantage, and when connection matters more.
  • Your energetic advantage is often the thing you overlook because it’s always been natural to you.
  • Leadership is shifting. Identity and energetic precision matter more than strategy alone.

014: Let's Talk About Risk, Baby

mercredi 8 avril 2026Duration 31:51

This episode is about risk.

Not the dramatic, reckless, burn-your-life-down version. The real version.

In this episode, I break down what risk actually is and why most people are not playing to win—they’re playing not to lose. And those are two completely different games with completely different outcomes.

I share a moment where I caught myself calling something a “big move” when really, I had built safety nets all around it. It wasn’t risk. It was controlled exposure. And once you see that pattern, you can’t unsee it.

We talk about the difference between risk memory and risk intelligence, and why past experiences that “didn’t work” are often misinterpreted as wisdom instead of unprocessed data.

I walk through what it actually looks like to take aligned, intentional risk—and why staying in the energy of risk matters more than taking one bold step.

I also bring in real examples—Sarah Blakely, Oprah, Reese Witherspoon—to show how risk isn’t one move. It’s a relationship.

And we go into the piece that most people don’t want to look at: money.

Because most people aren’t afraid of risk. They’re afraid of what the outcome will require them to become—and what it might mean about them if it doesn’t work.

Energy first. Strategy second.

✨ Takeaways:

  • Risk is exposure to uncertainty in pursuit of something you actually want
  • Most people define risk by what they could lose—leaders define it by what becomes available
  • Playing not to lose keeps you stuck in the game. Playing to win changes the outcome
  • You cannot win a game you are subconsciously trying not to lose
  • Controlled exposure is not the same as real risk
  • Risk memory keeps you stuck in the past. Risk intelligence extracts the lesson and moves forward
  • Aligned risk is intentional, resourced, and something you’re available to hold
  • Risk isn’t one move—it’s a relationship
  • Taking one risk and quitting when it doesn’t immediately pay off is not how this works
  • Sometimes the first risk isn’t the payoff—it’s the positioning
  • Most people are not afraid of risk. They are afraid of the identity required to hold the outcome
  • If you are not available for the result, you will sabotage the process
  • The biggest risk is often staying the same
  • Money reveals your true relationship to risk more than anything else
  • When money can’t move, it doesn’t grow—you just stay stuck maintaining “even”
