| #299: When Men Sexually Harass Other Men At Work, There’s An Employment Right For That! | 20 Nov 2025 | 00:15:17 | |
Hi there, Imagine this: you're at work, trying to get on with your job, when colleagues nearby start sharing offensive jokes about women, homosexuality, and sex. The jokes aren't aimed at you directly, but you have to hear them… every day! What would you do? How would it make you feel? We look at this issue through a case that recently came out of the employment tribunal, which strengthens the rights of every worker, to not be subjected to harassment in general and sexual harassment in particular, in the workplace. It's our view, that the more you are able to acquaint yourself with your employment rights in this area, the more your rights will act as an early warning system, which you can use to spot bad treatment or illegal treatment that you may be suffering at work. If you need help to formulate your complaint you can download a copy of our ‘Complaints Checklist’ here. | #298: Calling You Names Then Suddenly Sacking You. There’s An Employment Tribunal Claim For That Behaviour! | 13 Nov 2025 | 00:13:27
Hi there This week, we look at a case that has just come out of an employment tribunal, which helps to strengthen the rights of workers when a boss crosses the line with a comment that feels, just – wrong! And as if that was not bad enough, that comment then turns out to be the start of a whole process of trying to get rid of you, to avoid you getting your full employment rights. We deal with all this, in the podcast episode. It's our view, that the more you are able to acquaint yourself with your employment rights in this area, the more your rights will act as an early warning system, which you can use to spot bad treatment or illegal treatment that you may be suffering at work. | #289: “You D***Heads”: Why Calling Your Boss This Name Can Still Lead to Unfair Dismissal And A Winning Case In Employment Tribunal! | 11 Sep 2025 | 00:13:12
Hi There and welcome to this week’s podcast. What if, in a heated moment, you actually called your boss a Dickhead? Surely, that would be an instant reason for your marching orders and dismissal for gross misconduct, right? Well… not necessarily! This week we take a look at a recent employment tribunal case which has shocked the legal and employer worlds, because it involves and employee who used this abusive term towards her employer. The employee was then sacked on the spot, took her case to an employment tribunal and was found to have been unfairly dismissed. | #199: What’s the Difference Between an Uber Driver and a Deliveroo Rider? Why One Job Gets Employment Rights and the Other Job is Classed as Self Employed! | 30 Nov 2023 | 00:11:47
Hi there We hope you are using your employment rights to assert your right to be treated fairly at work. Your employers know you have a right to do this! In last week’s episode, we looked at the major differences in the employment rights, between someone who is self-employed and someone who is an employee or a worker. In this second episode of the miniseries, we focus on why the key principle of ‘secondment’ is a deal breaker for your employment rights, using the recent Supreme Court ruling that decided that Deliveroo food delivery riders are classed as self-employed whilst Uber taxi drivers are classed as workers, who now get basic employment rights. If you have questions about your employment status or queries about any other employment rights matter - you can find all our support links at the bottom of the show notes for this episode; and, if you would like to book a consultation with us to look at bullying or abuse which you may be suffering at work or any other employment rights concern you may have, you can email us at employmentrightsonline@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can go directly to our consultations bookings page using the Consultations link, which is also in the show notes. Finally, remember you can help us by sharing our podcast information with your family, friends and colleagues and by leaving us a review on iTunes or a rating on Spotify if you enjoy our podcasts. | #196 Why You Will NOT Work a 4-Day Week If You Work for a Local Council! 😡 | 09 Nov 2023 | 00:12:59
Hi there! We hope you can use your employment rights to protect yourself at work. You have a right to do this. In this week’s episode, we take a look at the battle raging to prevent you from working a four-day week, if you work for a local authority. There are lots of private sector businesses and workplaces that have long since adopted a four-day work week – because of the huge benefits gained on workforce development, particularly at a time when there is competition to recruit and retain the best staff into the workforce. However, it seems that the same approach to recruiting staff – with a four-day work week benefit, is not a welcomed approach in your local council. Remember… if you need help with four day work week queries or any other employment rights matter - you can find all our support links at the bottom of the show notes for this episode; and, if you would like to book a consultation with us to look at bullying or abuse which you may be suffering at work or any other employment rights concern you may have, you can email us at employmentrightsonline@gmail.com. | #195: Did You Know Your Future Pay and Promotion At Work Could Be Linked to You Going Back to the Office 5 Days Per Week! 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ | 02 Nov 2023 | 00:14:15
Hi there. We hope you are getting to know your employment rights. Your rights will be really happy to meet you and work for you. As the crisis in recruiting permanent staff continues to bite, employers are thinking of new ways to get you back into the office and once in the office - to get you to stay there for the full five days. In this week’s episode, we look at the trend of employers tying promotions or access to new jobs or access to top tier pay rises and top bonuses, to being in the office full time or for most of the week. If you need help with ‘returning to the office’ queries or any other employment rights matter… you can find all our support links at the bottom of the show notes for this episode; and, if you would like to book a consultation with us to look at bullying or abuse which you may be suffering at work or any other employment rights concern you may have, you can email us at employmentrightsonline@gmail.com. | #288: Your Job Security is Getting Stronger. Here’s Your Guide to Your Future Dismissal Rights! | 04 Sep 2025 | 00:15:11
Hi there As the new employment rights bill continues to trundle its way through parliament, we use this week’s podcast to bring you the latest updates and changes to the bill, to keep you up to date with where things are. There are some interesting changes to look at and some new clarifications have also entered the frame. Overall, not much has changed, but the changes that have been brought forward are important for you to know at this stage, because if we get all these changes in the final employment rights bill, your proposed new employment rights will represent the biggest shift in UK unfair dismissal rights in decades… and will definitely add to your job security in the workplace. It's our view, that being able to understand your employment rights, the more your rights act as an early warning system, which you can use to spot bad treatment or illegal treatment that you may be suffering at work. | #286: Employment Tribunals and the Battle for Fair References After Dismissal From Your Job. Here Are Cases That Will Help You! | 21 Aug 2025 | 00:16:01
Hi there In this week’s episode, we look at the devastating impact of being denied a fair reference after dismissal, through the eyes of leading employment tribunal cases, that have made it possible for employees to seek redress for bad ‘treatment linked to the weaponisation of their reference. We also take you through several key cases that have laid the groundwork for employment tribunal action, and also remind you of the limitations that remain, despite the limited rights tribunal action can provide. | #157: Have You Ever Been Successful in Getting a Ghost Job? Here’s What’s Extraordinary About This Type of Bad Treatment! | 09 Feb 2023 | 00:12:58
Hi Everyone Sometimes, all you have left are your employment rights, when those responsible for a duty of care towards you seem to have abandoned you to your own fate. Don’t be frightened to use those rights. This week, we want to talk about the extraordinary thorny subject of ghost jobs - something which has seen an equally extraordinary rise since we came out of lockdown. A ghost job is a job posted by an employer, which the employer may or may not fill with a successful applicant, without telling the applicant. We take you through the whole sorry mess, in this week’s podast. Remember, you can find all your support links at the bottom of these show notes and if you would like to book a consultation with us to look at bullying or abuse which you may be suffering at work, or any other employment rights concern you may have, you can email us at employmentrightsonline@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can go directly to our consultations bookings page using the ‘Consultations’ link in these show notes. Finally, remember to help us by sharing our podcast information with your family, friends and colleagues and by leaving us a review on iTunes or a rating on Spotify, if you enjoy our podcasts. Until next week Have the best employment rights week you can Bye for now
