Matt and James went to 2000 Trees and…SPOILER ALERT…had a wonderful time.

Join us as we discuss our thoughts on the festival, from the perspective of going with mates and also going with a child! We chat about all the amazing bands we saw, including the likes of I Am The Avalanche, Carsick, Arcane Roots, Thistle, Free Throw, Glassjaw, Anthony Green, Higher Power and many many more, including some bands who were new to us and got us excited.

Of course we talk about various LOGISTICS and boring stuff which we like to obsess over, like the layout of the festival, how many water taps there were and the fact they don’t play music over the speakers between bands… controversial move or power play? These things need to be discussed at length and no other podcast will do it!

Season 10 Episode 3: Emo Dad talks to As It Is

Matt and James are buzzing to bring you a truly special interview with the lovely lads from British-American rock band As It Is.

We had an absolute blast chatting with them and, in true Emo Dad interview fashion, there are plenty of laughs, a few distractions, and the kind of questions most “proper” interviewers are too scared to ask. We dive into the bands they were in before As It Is, how the band first came together, and those early years on the grind. We also talk about their ‘large’ and ever-growing fanbase, and how they went from playing tiny rooms to tearing it up on the Warped Tour in no time at all.

We get into style changes, the tougher moments along the way, and how they’ve been enjoying working on new material — with a new album dropping this summer.

Then things get a little niche. We chat about the band training for the Brighton Marathon in aid of the brilliant Mind charity. Matt (who is a running coach) dishes out advice for the weeks ahead, and we somehow end up covering the connection between emo and running, whether filming a music video the day after a marathon is a terrible idea, how to fuel properly, and if stopping to play a gig halfway round the course is technically an option.

It’s pretty bespoke… but trust us, it’s a great time.

Season 10 Episode 2: Emo Dad talks to The Click Five

Matt and James were excited to sit down with Kyle, Ethan and Joe from The Click Five. The Click Five are a pop rock band who burst onto the scene in the mid 2000’s, quickly gaining popularity with their good locks and catchy songs. They quickly crashed the charts and became the most viewed band on Myspace. Their career saw them tour mega arenas with the likes of Alanis Morissette and the Backstreet Boys. They became huge in Asia in their own right, headlining to thousands of people on their headline tours.

We discuss their quick rise as a band, what it’s like to play mega arenas with the worlds most popular pop bands, having a movie made about them, being on a major record label and writing songs with members of Kiss and The Cars.

We chat about the eventual hiatus and their recent reform, getting DM’s from the Jonas Brothers, playing in Celine Dion’s band and what the future holds.

We loved this chat and could have gone on for hours, so many great stories from some top lads.

Matt and James are delighted to be joined by producer and director, Alex Shipman, to discuss her new documentary about the infamous P-Rock tv channel, which graced our screens in the early 00’s.

The doc covers the incredible story behind how the channel came to be, the bands that featured and upsetting the likes of MTV which resulted in the sad decline.

We chat about how the doc was put together, some behind the scenes stories from the channel and much more.

James also decides that he must now set up his own channel and starts brainstorming ideas.
