Creative Workshop is an historic recording studio founded in 1970 by songwriter and producer Buzz Cason. It was the very first recording studio established in Nashville’s Berry Hill district and was one of the first independently owned studios built in all of Nashville. Berry Hill is now home to nearly 40 recording studios. The Studio was originally built as a place for Cason to develop and produce new artists. He and his engineer Travis Turk wasted no time doing this. Before the paint could even dry on the walls they were in the studio tracking a young songwriter from Mobile named Jimmy Buffett. When Travis left, Brent Maher became the new chief engineer and oversaw the building of a brand new, state-of-the-art control room and renovation to the live tracking room in 1976. Shortly after,in 1977,Elvis Presley was booked in to Creative for a week long Recording session, beginning Thursday January 20th. However,things didn’t quite go to plan. This was the concert that was released by RCA on CD as “An Afternoon in the Garden” in 1997. Years later 8mm home movie footage of the almost complete show turned up and the sound was synced to the film and it was released as “Prince from another Planet”. She sat on the edge of the stage during taping of Elvis’1968 NBC TV Special, toured Elvis’ and Colonel Parker’s offices,and attended Elvis’ opening show on July 31st 1969 at the international Hotel, Las Vegas. Nick Adams was an American film and television actor & screenwriter. He was noted for his roles in several Hollywood films during the 1950's and 1960's along with his starring role in the ABC television series The Rebel Nicks friendship with Elvis Presley began in 1956 on the set of his debut movie Love Me Tender The young movie stars quickly became friends and spent a great deal of time together in Hollywood and Elvis home in Memphis during the Summer and Fall of 1956. "The Rebel and the King" is a first-person account written by Nick about his friendship with Elvis. The manuscript was written in 1956 by Nick during their eight days in Memphis when the singer returned home for his Tupelo homecoming. The manuscript was discovered years later by his daughter Allyson and published in 2012. Allyson joins me on the show to speak with me about her father's friendship with Elvis. Cleveland disc jockey Bill Randle introduced Elvis Presley on his national television debut on The Dorsey Brothers program, Stage Show,Saturday, January 28, 1956. Prior to that he had worked with Elvis in October 1955 on "Making a Movie Short" The title was "The Pied Piper of Cleveland"
I’m joined by Roger Hall who is a music preservationist and 1960s songwriter and drew his inspiration from Elvis songs. He worked with Bill Randle in the 70's and discusses with me the possible whereabouts of the movie today and other Elvis related topics.
