Navigating Perimenopause with Ayurveda: My Sister Niamh's Story - 41920 Nov 202501:00:22

In this heartfelt and deeply personal episode of the Elements of Ayurveda Podcast, Colette is joined by her sister, Niamh, an Occupational Therapist who specializes in mental health for children and young adults. Together, they explore Niamh's honest and vulnerable journey through perimenopause, a time that tested even her professional understanding of the mind and her long-time relationship with Ayurvedic living.

Despite her professional knowledge of mental health and years of practicing Ayurvedic principles, Niamh found herself facing out-of-character symptoms and a sense of losing control, especially during intense hot flushes and cognitive difficulties. This conversation offers a compassionate look at what it means to navigate hormonal shifts when even your best tools seem to fall short.

Colette and Niamh discuss how Ayurveda supported her self-understanding, how she began to view her therapeutic work through a new lens, and how the Ayurvedic Digestive Reset Cleanse helped her find stability amidst the fluctuations of perimenopause. They also talk about Niamh's integration of hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) as part of her perimenopausal journey.

This episode is a reminder that perimenopause is not just a hormonal transition, it's an invitation to deepen self-awareness, compassion, and connection to one's true rhythm.

In this episode, they discuss:

  1. The impact Ayurveda had on Niamh's self-understanding
  2. How she applies Ayurvedic wisdom in her work as an Occupational Therapist
  3. The out-of-character symptoms that surprised her during perimenopause
  4. How the Digestive Reset Cleanse helped rebalance her system
  5. Her ongoing journey integrating Ayurvedic practices with the hormonal support provided by modern medicine

Ayurvedic Way to Reset Food Cravings and Taste Buds - 40804 Sep 202500:23:49

Have you ever noticed cravings sneak up when you're stressed, tired, or at the change of a season? Ayurveda teaches us that cravings aren't about willpower, they're messages from the body, pointing to imbalance. Whether it's toxins (ama), weak digestion (Agni), or long-held emotional patterns, cravings are signposts that something deeper is asking for attention.

In this episode, Colette explores:

  • The Ayurvedic view of cravings through the six tastes (rasa)
  • How doshic imbalances (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) shape what we crave
  • The difference between true nourishment and false cravings
  • Why ultra-processed foods disrupt our natural signals
  • How an Ayurvedic cleanse rekindles Agni and resets your palate
  • The emotional side of cravings - samskaras, habits, and food as comfort
  • Practical tips to integrate into everyday life with mindful eating, seasonal foods, and gratitude

Special Invitation

Five Habits That Affect Digestion and How Ayurveda Resets Them - 40728 Aug 202500:29:05

When most of us think about improving digestion, we focus on food choices, what to eat and what to avoid. But Ayurveda teaches us that how and when we eat, along with our daily lifestyle habits, are just as important for keeping agni (digestive fire) strong and preventing ama (toxins).

In this episode, Colette explores five often-overlooked habits that quietly weaken digestion over time and shares simple Ayurvedic fixes to reset them. These shifts may seem small, but they can have a profound effect on energy, immunity, and overall wellbeing.

Here's what you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why agni thrives on rhythm and how irregular eating times throw digestion off track

  • How emotional stress diverts energy away from healthy digestion

  • The hidden impact of late-night screen use on your body's natural repair cycles

  • Why even "healthy" foods can cause ama when combined improperly

  • How eating out of sync with the seasons creates imbalance and what to do instead

You'll also hear practical, before-and-after lifestyle examples to help you notice where these patterns might be showing up in your own life.

*

If you're ready for deeper support and motivated to do an all-in-one reset, then come join the discounted Group Digestive Reset Cleanse starting October 3rd, which addresses all five of these areas at once.
