The Philosopher Who Urinated On People | DIOGENES
Diogenes strongly opposed social values and institutions, because, according to him, these are at odds with human nature. He believed that human society infused us with all kinds of unnatural desires that are not only obsolete but also prevent us from being happy. Therefore, we should strip ourselves of these corrupting manmade constructs, so we’re able to live how we’re supposed to live: in agreement with nature.Diogenes’ stance toward everything cultured was very obvious. He practiced what he preached, behaving obscenely, with no regard for convention. It’s no surprise that people called him ‘doggish’, doglike, or simply ‘the dog’.
This video explores Diogenes’ philosophy, and what we can learn from his ideas.Cuts, voice, footage, script by Einzelgänger. I also used Creative Commons, licensed material from Storyblocks, and Pixabay (links available upon request).Support the channel:

| The Dark Night of the Soul (Losing Who We Thought We Were) | Einzelgänger | 14 Aug 2026 | 00:13:51 | |
The Dark Night of the Soul (Losing Who We Thought We Were)
According to St. John of the Cross and Teresa of Ávila, humans have an inborn longing for completion. This completion cannot be achieved by worldly pleasures. So, instead, we must go within, to reach the inner core of our soul in which ‘the divine’ lies hidden.Through spiritual awakening, we adopt a different perception of reality. Our predicament becomes clear. Knowing that our past way of life never fills the void, while not knowing where to turn next, can leave us in despair.According to John and Teresa, we must undergo a transformation that happens in the darkness of our unconscious, to reach the light. This mysterious and confusing transitional experience is called the dark night of the soul.Cuts, voice, footage, script by Einzelgänger. | How Epicurus Keeps Calm | Einzelgänger | 17 Aug 2026 | 00:12:14 | |
How Epicurus Keeps Calm
The ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus may seem an unlikely figure to teach us how to achieve a calm mind because of his reputation as an indulgent pleasureseeker. Unfortunately, the teachings of Epicurus are gravely misunderstood by many. While it’s true that, according to Epicurus, pleasure leads to happiness, his philosophy leans much more to asceticism than to indulgence.Within Epicurus’ teachings, we find a curious recipe for reaching a state of ‘ataraxia’, which can be translated as ‘equanimity’ or ‘tranquility’. Unlike the Stoics, Epicurus wasn’t interested in traditional virtues. Instead, he believed that engaging in the right amount of pleasure, given this is done with wisdom and moderation, is the key to a happy life. This video explores how an Epicurean achieves peace and calm.Support the channel:

The More You Try, The Worse It Goes (Law of Reverse Effect)
We might believe that the more we worry about the task and its consequence, the more control we gain and the more chance we have to succeed. But the opposite is true; the more we worry, the more we try to control, the more likely our performances will suffer. When we care too much about the outcome, we will likely push ourselves in ways that eventually obstruct our progress. The full video is available here: https://youtu.be/VpcQVjSVqOM#backwardslaw #reversedeffort #paradox

Why We Are Weak | The Philosophy of Epictetus
Full video: https://youtu.be/p2KHo95QknkWhat matters and doesn’t matter, according to Epictetus, is bound to the reality of our place as reasonable beings in an everchanging environment. This reality Epictetus makes clear in the underlying tenet of his work: ‘the dichotomy of control.’ Some things are in our control, others not. If we manage to concern ourselves with the things in our control, we are in a position of strength. But if we neglect these things and focus on what’s not in our control, we are in a position of weakness.#stoicism #epictetus #stoic

How to Not Care About Stuff | The Philosophy of Epictetus
Full video: https://youtu.be/p2KHo95QknkThe outside world is not in our control, but the way we choose to act in and position ourselves towards the outside world is in our control. Again, Epictetus doesn’t encourage us to not care about anything. On the contrary: living a good and moral life in accordance with nature is a Stoic’s main goal, which lies entirely within our control. But he does encourage us not to cling to what’s not in our control because these things are fickle, weak, and unreliable.#stoicism #epictetus #notcaring

Epictetus & The Dichotomy of Control | STOICISM
Full video: https://youtu.be/p2KHo95QknkIf we only focus on what we can control, and let go of everything else, then nothing outside of ourselves can harm us. Now, the question arises: what exactly lies within our control, and what doesn’t? Here’s what Epictetus stated in the first chapter of the Enchiridion, and I quote:“Some things are in our control and others not. Things in our control are opinion, pursuit, desire, aversion, and, in a word, whatever are our own actions. Things not in our control are body, property, reputation, command, and, in one word, whatever are not our own actions.”#epictetus #stoicism #stoic

Life’s Greatest Paradox: What You Resist, Persists
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/Quite logically, we can’t get rid of something if we don’t acknowledge its existence. But what would happen if we accept the reality and truth of the things we resist? Would acceptance make them worse? Or could it actually be the first step toward improvement and transformation? This video explores how things we resist persist and what we accept transforms.Video: Life’s Greatest Paradox: What You Resist, PersistsSupport the channel:

Why we prefer being alone... Despite feeling lonely
People generally agree that seeking close relationships is the solution when suffering at the hands of loneliness. We seek friendships to fill in the empty hole we’ve been experiencing. We join groups and clubs just to be around people - to feel the warmth of a community. But people tend to ignore the miseries accompanying these close relationships. When we consider the pain that goes together with closeness, it’s no surprise that many friendships result in fighting, and romantic relationships often fall apart dramatically. When dealing with others, we risk being betrayed, insulted, and abandoned.#loneliness #loner #alone

| How to Stop Procrastinating | Einzelgänger | 14 Aug 2026 | 00:16:58 | |
How to Stop Procrastinating
When we procrastinate, we are immersed in future thinking, and unable to do the work that we had planned to do in the present moment. The consequences of this behavior are often harmful. For example, if we refrain from performing necessary tasks, this will negatively influence future results and the acquirement of resources, while utilizing the resources we have accumulated by past endeavors. We stagnate, and with stagnation comes deterioration. But most ironic is that the act of repeated procrastination probably costs us more energy than performing the task itself. This video will explore the mechanisms of procrastination. What is it? Where does it come from? What do different philosophies (Stoicism & Taoism) say about it, and what wisdom do they contain that might help us out? Philosophers like Marcus Aurelius and Lao Tzu had a thing or two to say about this. How to stop procrastinating? How to be more productive? Overcome procrastination and be more productive at studying, work, et cetera.Support the channel:

Selfdestructive? It could be your death drive…
Why would living entities harbor a wish for selfdestruction or even death? And if we look closer at the sufferings of existence, isn’t this longing to revert to an inorganic state quite understandable? Walking away from marriage, children, and other stuff we're supposed to have
When society believes something is good, does it necessarily mean it’s true? Is it wrong to live life differently? And what is life like when we go against the grain? Let’s explore life without marriage, children, and other stuff we’re supposed to have, the nature of social norms, and some existentialism.Video: Walking away from marriage, children, and other stuff we're supposed to haveSupport the channel:

Who Am I? | The Philosophy of Alan Watts
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/Who am I? Am I the mind? Am I the body that contains the mind? Am I a descendant of an alien race that, long ago, set foot on Earth? Am I created by God?The English philosopher, writer, and speaker Alan Watts believed that the most important question a human could ask is this: “who am I?” During his long career as an interpreter of Eastern philosophies like Zen Buddhism and Taoism, he tried to solve the riddles of human existence.Because it seems difficult for us to see ‘who we are’ and ‘who we aren’t’, which Watts compared to the inability to bite our own teeth, he uses similes and metaphors to bring his points across. In his lectures, he emphasizes that we are much more intertwined with the universe around us than we think and that the separateness between us and the outer world that our minds perceive is, in fact, an illusion. So, we could ask: “what is this illusion? And if I’m living in an illusion, then, who am I?”This video contains reflections on the thoughts and philosophy of Alan Watts in regards to who we really are, and who we are not.Support the channel:

| How to Reduce the Pain of Life | Arthur Schopenhauer | Einzelgänger | 20 Aug 2026 | 00:16:26 | |
How to Reduce the Pain of Life | Arthur Schopenhauer
The nineteenthcentury German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer observed that nature is driven by an allencompassing force, which he called Will, or more specifically, the WillToLive. This force is unconscious, aimless, and blind, and gives rise to an insatiable striving within human beings. We live our lives grasping, craving, and attaching ourselves to external things, and we feed on other living organisms to perpetuate our own existence, all of which is a manifestation of Will. Thus, the will lies at the root of suffering, as our neverending hunger (and our inability to satiate it) results in an ongoing pursuit of pleasure that never, ever satisfies in the long run. To cope with the misery of life, Schopenhauer took the effort to construct a philosophy to help us attain a state of happiness, which may seem a bit strange as he’s such a pessimistic thinker. But similar to a philosopher and spiritual teacher that lived about 2,500 years ago named the Buddha, Schopenhauer rigorously examined and endured the illnesses of existence before he came up with a cure. After his death, Schopenhauer left us with an unfinished manuscript titled “Die Kunst, glücklich zu sein,” which can be translated as “The art of being happy”, and contains fifty rules for life. This video is based on the fifty rules by Arthur Schopenhauer, and explores how we can reduce the pain of life.Support the channel:

Stop Trying to Get It And You'll Have It | The Backwards Law
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/The backwards law proposes that the more we pursue something, the more we achieve the opposite of what we truly want and the more disappointed we feel. Or simply put: the harder we try, the less likely we’ll succeed. On the flip side: when we stop trying, we’ll have what we want. Now, how exactly does this backwards law work in practice? Or more specifically: how exactly do we get what we want, by not trying to get what we want? This video explores the backwards law and its paradoxical nature, as well as the cause of our ongoing dissatisfaction in life, and how we can liberate ourselves from it.Support the channel:

When Life Falls Apart, Does it Actually Fall Into Place? | A Buddhist Story
When we’re hanging onto a root that’s chewed away by mice with a hungry snake below and an even hungrier tiger above us, what can we possibly do to get out of this situation? What is the best course of action when there seems to be no way out? When life falls apart, we might want to remember that everything changes all the time. Like night turns into day, bad fortune turns into good fortune, and a curse turns into a blessing. So, could it be that, eventually, life doesn’t fall apart but... Into place? This video is based on a Buddhist story, that I originally heard from a Buddhist monk named Ajahn Brahm. Let It Go, Ride the Wind | The Taoist Philosophy of Lieh Tzu
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/The Lieh Tzu contains many stories with philosophical themes like the nature of reality, the purpose of life, and the workings of the mind. One theme that runs like a thread through this ancient scripture is the tendency of human beings to stand in their own way and thereby sabotaging a spontaneous, effortless mode of living.Dominated by a mind burning with desire, anxiously trying to control the uncontrollable, we’ve become unwilling and unable to let the universe run its natural course, as we have exchanged spontaneity for fear. And the more we fight the universe, the more painful our lives become, as things inevitably change in directions we don’t like. But how can we reembark the natural flow of life? What if we dare to let go of our attachments and desires, our fears and inhibitions, and become as light as a feather, like Lieh Tzu? This video explores the Taoist philosophy of Lieh Tzu on how to let go and ride the wind.Support the channel:

When Life Hurts, Stop Clinging to It | The Philosophy of Epictetus
Stoicism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/innerpeaceOur very sense of wellbeing is at gunpoint when we cling to the fickle, unreliable outside world. Around two thousand years ago, Stoic philosopher Epictetus observed that people are burdened and dragged down because they tend to care about too many things. His cure, however, is not to stop caring altogether but to care about the right things and stop clinging to anything that doesn’t matter. What matters and doesn’t matter according to Epictetus is bound to the reality of our place as reasonable beings in an everchanging environment. This reality Epictetus makes clear in the underlying tenet of his work: ‘the dichotomy of control.’ Some things are in our control, others not. If we manage to concern ourselves with the things in our control, we are in a position of strength. But if we neglect these things, and focus on what’s not in our control, we are in a position of weakness. Especially when we cling to what’s not up to us, we set ourselves up for a life of suffering. But what are those things that we cling to? And why is it better to let go of them? This video explores the philosophy of Epictetus, and what we, according to him, should focus on to be happy and content, and what we should let go of, and how we do this.Support the channel:

Miyamoto Musashi | The Path of the Loner
Part 1: https://youtu.be/bhlvYmn1IUQ
Part 2: https://youtu.be/HUXEqS6GqUUMusashi’s written works expand on the ‘path of the warrior’, which is the samurai way of discipline, focus, restraint, and honor. The path of the warrior is governed by moral and ethical codes that are commonly referred to as Bushidō. Shortly before he died, Musashi compiled twentyone principles on how a warrior should live. These timeless principles known as Dokkōdō can inspire us today to live well. This threepart series elaborates on the twentyone principles from Musashi’s Dokkōdō. The first part and second part explored the first fourteen principles. This third and final part further explores the path of the warrior, based on the last seven principles. Please note, the elaborations in this video are based on existing philosophies, the author’s interpretations, and reasoning, and are intended to be an inspiration for presentday life.Support the channel:

What If The World is Actually a Prison? | The Philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer
What if this world is actually one giant prison? When the 19thcentury philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer observed the amount of pain that we experience during our lifetimes, he concluded that it’s not happiness and pleasure we’re after, but a reduction of the ongoing suffering that’s an inherent part of existence. When we remove the veil of ignorance and behold the harsh reality we live in, we might start to question, as Schopenhauer does, the idea that, I quote, "this world is the successful work of an allwise, allgood, and, at the same time, allpowerful Being." End quote. For Schopenhauer's view of the world is one of agony - devoid of divine grace - and it has much more in common with a “penal colony” than with the creation of a benevolent deity. Now, seeing the world as a prison sounds like a recipe for personal misery. Why not adopt a more positive, more hopeful perspective? Why look at it with such pessimism?Well, Schopenhauer’s idea comes with a twist. Within his pessimistic worldview lies an outlook that could be very beneficial to humanity. Based on his essay On the Sufferings of the World, this video explores Schopenhauer’s pessimistic outlook on life and reveals a secret to be gained from it.Support the channel:

Reasons Not to Worry What Others Think
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/It’s generally a good idea to care about other people’s opinions to some degree, as they could contain some worthwhile insight. But focusing on them too much to the point that we spend hours and hours dwelling on what people might think can leave us in agony. It’s not only potentially harmful but also unnecessary. This video explains why based on several concepts from psychology and philosophy. Hence, 7 reasons not to worry about what others think.Support the channel:

Letting Someone Go | Taoism for Broken Hearts
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/The philosophy of Taoism revolves around letting go, accepting, yielding, and going with the flow. All Taoist sages seem to agree that it’s better to be detached and indifferent, allow change to happen, and move along with life’s constant transformations than to resist change and cling to what’s already in the past. When we are romantically involved with someone, we often see the opposite happening of what the Taoists teach. We attach, we cling, we control, and we’re usually very fearful of being abandoned by the person who generates immense bliss within ourselves. At the peak of the socalled honeymoon phase,’ when everything seems carefree, joyful, and happy, we wish it would never end. But as we all know: this period of mutual infatuation never lasts. No feeling is final. The changing nature of our emotional world causes us to fall out of love, sometimes as quickly as we fall in love. When feelings change, the relationship changes. Frequently, the consequence of declined feelings of attraction, for whatever reason, is a breakup.
Such a drastic change is challenging to handle, especially when the decline in attraction isn’t mutual. For some, it takes years (or even a lifetime) to get over someone. Others never truly accept the breakup and move Heaven and Earth to win back their old flame, to no avail.
When we cannot change outside circumstances, the only way to move forward is to change ourselves, including how we look at the situation at hand. The Taoist ideas in this video could help us see the breakup (and heartbreak in general) in another light.Letting Someone Go | Taoism for Broken HeartsSupport the channel:

| The Power of 'No' | Einzelgänger | 19 Aug 2026 | 00:10:37 | |
The Power of 'No'
It’s a short simple word: ‘no’.But for some people, it’s extremely difficult to use nonetheless. Especially socalled ‘people pleasers’ have difficulties saying ‘no’ to the people they intend to please. Which is a shame, because the ability to say ‘no’ not only helps us to not do things that we don’t want to do; it’s also a deciding factor whether or not we’re able to commit to a task and to achieve certain goals. Moreover, the word ‘no’ helps us to stick with our values and principles. In the word ‘no’ lies great power. And in order to wield this power, it’s essential to see the workings of ‘no’ and how applying ‘no’ more frequently and in the right ways can make our lives better. This video explores the power of ‘no’.Support the channel:

Don't Suffer More Than Needed | Buddhist Philosophy on Pain and Suffering
Taoism for Inner Peace (book): https://einzelganger.co/tao/“Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional,” is a Buddhist saying that points to a fundamental truth of existence, which is that pain and affliction are an inherent part of life: we contract illnesses, get wounded, lose our loved ones, our possessions, our social status. But despite the hardships we encounter, the degree of suffering we generate still varies per person. The greatest misfortune hardly affects some people, while the slightest inconvenience leads other people into states of deep agony. Thus, could it be that suffering is something we can manage and doesn’t always have to result from pain?Don't Suffer More Than Needed | Buddhist Philosophy on Pain and SufferingSupport the channel:
