How the Aussie way of Risk Taking Changed My Life18 May 202300:29:22

Despite previously working as a war correspondent, when New York Times journalist Damien Cave moved to Australia from the US, he was shocked by the Aussie approach to risk taking.

Our national loves of nippers & surfing turned what his own country had taught him about risk & how it should be managed on its head.

He says it's changed not only his life but his family's too & he's since written a book about it.

Today, we're exploring how changing the way you think about risk can change your life, broaden your horizons & help raise more resilient children & communities.

Research says that smart people may actually be more susceptible to irrational thinking & poor decision making.

We all know those people who are incredibly clever yet make decisions that are absolutely baffling. The intelligent people who believe in conspiracy theories or highly educated colleagues who constantly make silly decisions.

This is called the intelligence trap & David has written a book about it & what he learnt can help us all to make more wise decisions.

We talk through the trap & how it can help us to better understand the world & the people around us, as well as how we can check if we ourselves are falling for the trap, plus how to identify it & manage it in our organisations.

Grey Area Drinking: How to Re-evaluate Your Relationship with Alcohol06 Apr 202300:42:45

The morning Sarah Rusbatch realised that her relationship with alcohol needed to change, she woke up in blood stained bed sheets with her 5 year old daughter peering at her face asking her what had happened.

This sounds like an extreme story, but Sarah says that her relationship with alcohol would be familiar to SO many of us.

BUT the night before she'd been at a 40th birthday party where the wine was flowing, she'd nipped outside for a cigarette and when she reached down to stub it out, she toppled over her heels and landed face first on the concrete.

I'm sure you have a similar story - one where a few two many drinks has left you feeling anxious & embarrassed. I know I do.

Sarah says that morning left her with an overwhelming feeling that there was another way of living.

In 2019 she quit booze completely & is now an accredited Grey Area Drinking Coach.
