Video Tutorial on YouTube
Chocosol Traders

Recipe
Ingredients:
1 bar Chocosol Turmeric-Ginger dark chocolate
1 package organic silken tofu*
1 tsp espresso powder or 1 individual pack of instant espresso
¼ cup maple syrup
3 Medjool dates, pitted and coarsely chopped
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp ground turmeric

Instructions:
Add all ingredients except the chocolate to the pitcher of your blender and blend on high until thoroughly combined and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the pitcher and blend again to ensure that the dates are thoroughly incorporated.

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. If using the microwave, heat for 30 second intervals at 50% power, stirring well each time until chocolate is melted. Do not rush this process or the chocolate will burn.

With the blender on low speed, gradually add the melted chocolate to the spiced tofu mixture. Scrape the sides and blend for an additional minute at medium speed.

Pour into a glass bowl, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours, or overnight.
Serve cold topped with your favorite grated Chocosol chocolate, vegan whipped cream, or berries.

*Use silken tofu, not firm or extra firm. If you are allergic to soy, substitute with 2 ripe avocados.

Boost Your Health: Benefits of a Whole Food Plant-Based Diet04 Dec 202300:36:26

Text Dr. Black your questions or comments.

This episode is the second of a two-part series examining the overall health of the US population and how what we eat can have a huge impact on our health, for good or bad.

In the first episode, I defined what the Standard American Diet is - how we are choosing processed convenience foods over more nutrient-dense fruits, veggies, and grains - and how it is affecting our health. We learned the difference between minimally processed and ultra-processed foods and examined the many ways that ultra-processed foods harm our own health and the environment.

Today, in part two, I discuss what a whole food plant-based diet is and count down the top 10 health benefits of eating more whole plant foods. Last, I offer tips on how to start making healthy changes to your diet that will have big impact on your overall health.

Breaking Down the Standard American Diet: A Health Crisis in Disguise04 Dec 202300:27:18

Text Dr. Black your questions or comments.

This episode is the first of a two-part series examining the overall health of the US population and how what we eat can have a huge impact on our health, for good or bad.

In this first episode, I take a look at what the USDA's Dietary Guidelines for Americans has to say about what we here in the US and other western countries eat on a regular basis. I define what the Standard American Diet is - how we are choosing processed convenience foods over more nutrient-dense fruits, veggies, and grains - and how it is affecting our health. We learn the difference between minimally processed and ultra-processed foods and examine the many ways that ultra-processed foods harm our own health and the environment.

In part two, I move from diagnosing the patient (the entire population of the US!) to prescribing the treatment. I will explain what a whole food plant-based diet is and count down the top 10 reasons to incorporate more whole plant foods into your diet. Last, I will offer tips on how to start making healthy changes to your diet that will have big impact on your overall health.

Trailer #2 for Eat Your Greens with Dr. Black Podcast 29 Sep 202300:03:37

Text Dr. Black your questions or comments.

I want to tell you a little more about what you can expect with the Eat Your Greens with Dr. Black Podcast. If you want to improve your own health, and the health of your family, this is the podcast for you - and let me be clear - that describes every single family I have encountered in my 20+ years of practicing pediatrics.

I went into healthcare because I genuinely want to help people. But let's face it, there are only so many patients I can see in a day. I know that parents have lots of questions about the best way to feed their children. People want to improve their diet and overall health, but the media is full of mixed messages about how to do that.

Over the course of my career, I’ve seen the rates of eating disorders sky-rocket – particularly since the pandemic. At the same time, I’m diagnosing more and more kids with high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and actual full-blown diabetes. It is clear something is gravely wrong.

I can’t fix healthcare, but I can change how I practice healthcare. I can add my voice to the growing movement of doctors who see an urgent need to tackle some of the challenges we face today. And I can be a part of that movement toward change.

That's why I'm motivated start a podcast. I want to help as many people as I can feed their family right, get little kids off to the best start possible, and help teens and parents achieve their health goals.

Eat Your Greens with Dr. Black is dedicated to fostering healthy habits for families with children of all ages. Starting later this year, you’re going to get episodes that bust myths about popular fad diets, delve into what a healthy diet actually looks like, and reveal secrets about how to manage your grocery budget without resorting to the dollar menu at the fast-food drive through.  I’ll be sitting down with other pediatricians to have frank conversations about current challenges in healthcare, interview experts in the field of health and nutrition, and even visit some local restaurants where they are serving up healthy plant-based meals.

I hope you’ll join me in exploring how a plant-predominant diet can help you and your family.
