We are taking a break from our season on Kingdom Innovation bc it’s election week in the US, and we think this word from our teammate David Legge is one that is worth hearing, no matter what country you are listening from.

As our house churches were gathering here in Little Rock this week, David Legge was in town with us, and we asked him to share a message with us, that he titled, “An Other Worldly Kingdom.” 

David had given a similar message in Ireland recently at the New Wine Conference, but it was interesting how much of the perspective he gave to the crowd there applies to us in the United States as well, as other countries, when it comes to the ways we can accidentally start finding our hope in a political Kingdom, a Kingdom that is less than the spiritual Kingdom God has invited us into.

In this episode, Kathryn and David briefly talk about the tendencies we have to operate in our own power, ignoring the fact that he is here and wants to lead the way.

Dwellings Podcast Season 2 is on Future Shifts for the church. In this series we will explore shifts we feel God calling us into during this season. While they feel new to us in the West, they are actually shifts toward the early church, and are in keeping with the ways of the church in the global south where Christianity is growing the fastest.

Ezekiel tells us how the presence of God reluctantly withdrew from the Temple in stages and eventually from the whole nation. The sins of the people had driven him from them. This is a sobering message highlighting the need for holiness but also giving us great hope in the Savior we have in Jesus, who brings God's presence to us through His cross.

The primary way the presence of God rested among God's people in the Old Testament was in the Tabernacle and the Temple, particularly over the Ark of the Covenant. Unfortunately, the people of God came to the point in their history of taking God's presence for granted, and consequently, they lost it. Roy and Daphne Godwin decided to do things differently as they led a prayer retreat center for years in Western Wales called Flald-y-Brenin. As people arrived, they pulled back from programming and even teaching as their all-consuming goals became introducing people to the presence of Jesus. Learn how the Godwins learned to simply make space for his presence, and hear some stories about how people's lives were subsequently changed. It takes humility to remove ourselves from the picture, and it takes faith to rely on God to show up as we make space for him. Christy gives us ways to posture ourselves when God seems far away: confession and consecration. She also tells us of a time when a song felt particularly consecrated to Jesus, and how she - and many others - experienced a special moment together as a result.

In a world that has more accessible information than ever before, we can move beyond information transfer to transformational discipleship. While having knowledge about the Bible and God is very important, it is not enough... we were called to relationship with him. God is meant to be experientially known, not just mentally known.
