Scott Murphy from All 90s Action, All the Time and Bloody Sam is back to discuss another Steven Seagal DTV flick, this time "Driven to Kill." We have another not so bad one here, but I do my best to make a mess of it when I keep calling Seagal "Dolph".

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at "The Mandalorian" Disney+ series, and the recent film "The Mandalorian and Grogu." In the first segment, I talk about the first two seasons, the atmosphere which it came out in, and why those two seasons worked so well. In the second segment I talk about the third season and why that one wasn't as well-received as the first two, and how that may have hurt momentum going into the movie, "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which underperformed at the box office. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my new flash fiction collection "Boston Stories Vol. 1," giving some background on how I came up with the initial ideas, and its journey from Myspace blog posts to self-published book.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Chris "The Brain" Kacvinsky from Bulletproof Action, and this time we're doing some Don "The Dragon" one week before his birthday with "Bloodfist II." Before that though, we discuss the late James Lew, and his impact on the world of DTV action. Then with "Bloodfist II," we realize this movie wasn't as good as we thought, between the hero's poor judge of character, the Die Hard scenario padding, the lack of understanding of how tournament movies should work, and the sad sack that is Tim Baker.

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod as we look at "Hounds of War" and "Affinity". With "Hounds of War," we fire up the Grillo again for one we'd been waiting for for a long time. Was it worth the wait? Then on the second one, "Affinity", Marko Zaror gets after it, and we're all better for it. Finally, our spotlight on a fight looks at the end fight in "The Perfect Weapon".

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at the Mortal Kombat movies. In the first segment, I talk about my history with the games, and how that played into the first two movies in the 1990s. I also get into why I thought the first one worked better than the second. In the second segment I talk about the two 2020s movies, giving my thoughts on them, and why I think they may have a ceiling of $125-150 million in earnings. Then I give my own ideas for how I might make the film series profitable. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my 2022 book "Holtman Arms," giving some background on how I came up with the story and characters, and how the loss of our cat led to the creation of one of the characters in honor of him.

In this episode I'm joined by Freddie Young from Full Moon Reviews as we look at another Dolph DTV film, "Silent Trigger". We start with the first 90 minutes or so looking at the year in movies so far, especially the success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," but also "The Odyssey," "Obsession," etc., and why we think so many people are going to the theater again. Then with "Silent Trigger," we talk about how much we enjoyed this film, why it worked so well, and then a little bit on 80s and 90s music videos and the directors who got their starts with them.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at the new "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" film. I start by putting it in context, especially after 2023, the year that was all about "superhero fatigue." What was it about this year that has allowed for "Brand New Day" to have historic success? Then I get into whether I liked it or not and why. Finally, in the second segment I talk about my 2023 book "Don's House in the Mountains," giving some background on how I came up with the story and characters, and how the lockdown during the pandemic shaped my writing process.

In this episode Sean Malloy of "I Must Break This Podcast" is back, and we're discussing another Van Damme DTV flick, 2012's "6 Bullets," the second of three films he did with Ernie Barbarash. This was similar to "Assassination Games" where it had aged well compared to the current state of DTV action, and Van Damme turns in a great performance, but it did lack Scott Adkins, which may have allowed "Assassination Games" to come out ahead.

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod as we look at "A Line of Fire" and "Prey of Wrath". With "A Line of Fire," it wasn't horrible, but David AR White as an action lead was tough for us to take. "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at what I call "Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 pt 2," because I felt like season 2 was just part 2 of season 1. I start with why it took me so long to watch those eight episodes, and then I get into why a lot of it didn't work for me. In the second segment, I look at the one-off "The Punisher: One Last Kill," which I enjoyed a lot more. I also give my ideas for other one-offs, including a team up of Thomas Jane's Punisher and Wesley Snipes's Blade--tell me you wouldn't love that! Finally, in the last segment I talk about my 2024 book "Nadia and Aidan," giving some background on how I came up with the story and characters, and some of the rules I broke to write it.

We're joined once again by Jon Cross from the PM Entertainment Podcast and the After Movie Diner, this time to discuss a Last Seduction double feature. With the first one, we look at where it fits with the other great films of 1994, then dig in on what works and what doesn't, including a couple glaring plot holes. Then with the sequel, we get into how many ways it was sauteed in wrong sauce--and there were many! There's a lot of fun stuff to discuss in this one, like the restaurant with no customers, the "bastard milkman," and what Samuel Walls was even doing in the film; but we still managed to get in some tangents on classic TV, 80s and 90s wrestling, and a question on which states we need in the US.

We're joined once again this week by screenwriter Richard Pierce, as we look at the Jalal Merhi classic(?) "Expect to Die." Before that we start by discussing some of Rich's movies, in particular his Lifetime ones, and the place they hold in the current market. Then we get stuck in on the film, going over all of our key highlights--one of which we discover later I missed because I was watching what I didn't realize was the TV edit on Merhi's Film One YouTube channel.

We start in the first 15 minutes or so talking about game 3 of the NBA Finals and the mess in New York when Trump attended the game. From there we spend the next 90 minutes or so looking at the year in movies so far, what's done well, what struggled, and what surprised us, and why we think all that happened. "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. This episode is part two of my look at the Indiana Jones films, with "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and "Dial of Destiny." I get into where the series was at 19 years after the third film, why we had a long wait for the fourth, and was it worth it. Then I finish up on the fifth one, and my ultimate conclusion was that this was a series that stopped innovating, which was a huge departure from the series that changed how action and adventure movies were made.

Before we get into the films, for the first 45 minutes or so we talk about what we've been watching lately. Then with the first Trap House, we discover this isn't that bad, but is it enough to keep us away from the dreaded tangents? The second one proves again that kids never help a movie, and the teen gang attacking cartel money stashes are no exception. We're joined once again by Jon Cross from the PM Entertainment Podcast and the After Movie Diner, this time to discuss a Gregory Dark erotic thriller double feature--and no, we're not looking at two "Between the Cheeks" movies, we're looking at "Body of Influence" and "Stranger by Night." With "Body of Influence," we discuss Nick Cassavetes's therapy practice, his interior decorating choices, and how he lets Shannon Whirry bring it all crashing down. And then with "Stranger By Night," we get into why this one doesn't work as well, William Katt's outfits, and the twist at the end. Finally, after the end theme, we have bonus content, where Jon and I riff about midlife crises.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Jeanette Ward from The Mundane Adventures of a Fangirl, this time to discuss the first of two Albert Pyun Kickboxer sequels, "Kickboxer 2: The Road Back". We look at the trope of a hero being defeated by a baddie, and then through sheer will and determination fueled by a montage with a rockin' soundtrack, eventually gets his revenge. How does this one work in that realm? We also talk about the late Cary Tagawa, and the energy he brought to this film.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. This episode is part one of my look at the Indiana Jones films, with "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Temple of Doom," and "Last Crusade." I get into what works and what doesn't, and the greater film movement that they were a part of at the time. Also, I discuss how Spielberg and Lucas don't like animals.

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod as we look at a Ruby Rose double feature with "Stowaway" and "Vanquish." In the first one we're firing up the Grillo, as one of our favorites, Frank Grillo, costars with Rose in one that's more of a thriller than actioner. The second one has another pod favorite, Morgan "Morgy" Freeman, in what is best described as an "Acceleration" ripoff. Finally, our spotlight on a fight looks at the classic fight in "Return of the Dragon" between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Chris "The Brain" Kacvinsky from Bulletproof Action, and this time we're looking at the Dolph Lundgren Die Hard in a high school classic, "Detention." It's a movie we both enjoyed, but as we break it all down, do we still like it as much as we did? Also, Chris tries to break the record for saying "taint" the most times in a podcast episode, and in trying to figure out who the baddie looks like, we'll probably get "Father of Mine" stuck in your head.

Scott Murphy from All 90s Action, All the Time and Bloody Sam is back to discuss another Steven Seagal DTV flick, this time "Out of Reach." we've got Seagal as a former CIA guy who's been corresponding with a young girl in a Polish orphanage, but when she goes missing, he needs to go over there to save her. Screenwriter Tom Jolliffe is back to discuss his newest film, "We Go Again," along with the film's two stars Zuza Tehanu and Charlotte Chiew. The first 30 minutes or so is a spoiler-free conversation about the film, so even if you haven't watched the movie yet, you can listen safely. We're joined once again by Jon Cross from the PM Entertainment Podcast and the After Movie Diner, this time to discuss a Shannon Tweed erotic thriller double feature, with "Scorned" and "Victim of Desire." Before that though, for the first hour or so, Jon and I look at where Jim Belushi's career should go after his role in "The Chronology of Water," and then my mention of Sean Connery in the early James Bond films takes us off on a large tangent about accents in the UK and the starts of Michael Caine's and Terrence Stamp's careers. Then we get into the erotic thrillers, first with "Scorned," we discuss Tweed's performance, Andrew Stevens's direction, and the moments we really liked. And then with "Victim of Desire," it's all about the Wynorski, the Wings, the Strain, and definitely the Tweed as well.

And then for the second film, we look at the AIP flick "Future Zone," starring David Carradine, nepo baby of John Carradine. "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I'm looking at "Ballerina" after finally watching it on Starz. I get into how I missed it when it was in the theater, and then how much I wished I hadn't as I was watching the film on the small screen. I then try to break down why a movie that was so good didn't do as well at the box office. Then in the second part, I get into the Warner Bros. sale, and give my thoughts on what I see happening between Netflix winning out, or Paramount.

To hear my thoughts on the previous entries in the John Wick series, it's DTVC Extra episodes 24 and 25 from back in May of 2024.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Chris "The Brain" Kacvinsky from Bulletproof Action, and this time we're looking at one that many are considering one of the best actioners in recent memory, "Diablo." We discuss a bit about Adkins and Zaror and what makes them so good, and then we get stuck in on the film, walking you through all the great stuff--with perhaps a classic TV tangent or two!

Screenwriter Tom Jolliffe is back to discuss his newest film, "Death Among the Pines," which is available now to rent on Amazon for $2.99 here in the States. The first half is a spoiler-free conversation about the film, so even if you haven't watched the movie yet, you can listen safely. Then after a break, I ask some questions that do contain spoilers, so be careful if you haven't seen it yet.
