Ten-Four Good Buddies
Fourteen isn’t normally considered to be a particularly significant number. It’s not the first teenage year, it’s more than a Baker’s Dozen, it isn’t associated with bad luck or other superstitions, and from a mathematical point of view it doesn’t really have many special numerical characteristics. But to Drew and Sam, everyone’s favourite podcast presenters, it is a rather important number indeed.
And yes, you’ve guessed why - the boys are BACK, and welcoming us in to this, their FOURTEENTH season of performance industry chat! This season promises to be another cracker, with lots of brilliant guests, more news and discussions, plenty of banter and all the other Drewling Samantics content we’ve come to know and love.
To long-time followers and fans, it’s a welcome return for the boys, who take time in this episode to explain what they’ve been up to since we last heard from them, and what is to come over the next fifteen weeks. To newcomers it’s a fun introduction to two seasoned pro’s (both of podcasting and their respective jobs) within a rather unique vocational world.

What do you possibly do after enjoying one hundred and ninety-four episodes of a fantastic podcast? Well, you dive right in to the one hundred and ninety-fifth episode of course! Yes, the boys at Drewling Samantics have reached their final show of Season Thirteen, and it just so happens to be a compilation of their highlights, better known as the Best of Drew & Sam!

Sadly we’re nearly there, the end of Season Thirteen. But Drew and Sam would never leave us hanging, and as is customary in the latter stages of a season, they’ve managed to take an entertaining dip into all Season Thirteen’s guest episodes, and assembled a selection of prize moments for us to re-live and re-enjoy.
It seems immensely tricky trying to squeeze so many great moments into one episode, but our podcasting pair have achieved the seemingly impossible once again! From drumming to children’s TV, travel to magic, and career changes to photography, the Drewling Samantics duo were treated to some enormously varied entertaining insights and stories by their creative visitors, and in turn are sharing it all with us once again.
If you accidentally missed seeing any of the amazing appearances from Robin Payne, Colleen Daley, Freddie Brandes, Paul Burley, Tim Nixon and Brian Worley, then what were you doing?! But fortunately all is not lost, as now is a chance to experience the choicest moments from these incredibly talented people before you hit the archives and enjoy those shows in their full glory. So for the final time this season, Drew and Sam get together for a podcast appearance full of the usual banter and nonsense, before they take a break and recharge their podcast batteries in readiness for Season Fourteen. While both the boys are about to be off for a few weeks, Drew is taking that quite literally, embarking on a month long stint in Lyme Regis performing in three plays at the fabulous Marine Theatre. With that in mind his impending need to pack his suitcase has inspired the lads to discuss exactly what they put into their touring bags and what bits of kit they always have ready for the road.
Covering all eventualities work-wise, last minute self-tapes and voiceover submissions require microphones and cameras, tripods, editing kit, lights and all manner of other useful gear that helps enable an actors’ life to continue, despite not being at home. Also, there are those little home comforts that, when in strange digs and limited spaces, go a long way to making life a bit more bearable - however welcoming those homes, and at times their hosts, may be. And the same applies to dressing rooms, just how long will you be there and does that change how you “set up”?
All this is considered and more, and goes into making this a truly cracking last episode before the final ‘Best Of’ compilations shows round off another fantastic season of Drewling Samantics.

Sadly, we have reached the final guest episode of this Drewling Samantics season, but the boys (and their visitor) are making sure Season Thirteen is finishing up in picture-perfect fashion!
Now it could be said it doesn’t take a genius to be photogenic, but it does take a certain genius to spot it, or to be able to seize an opportunity to take a perfect photograph and capture a once in a life time moment. This week Drew and Sam are joined by Brian Worley, a man who just so happens to have that gift.
With insights into the art of photography, working with models, using technology to enhance art, and explaining how to grab the moment and get ‘the shot’, Brian is a fabulous and knowledgeable guest with plenty to share. With an engineering background, and the ability to effortlessly convey his enthusiasm for his work, Brian has developed a successful career full of highlights and exciting projects, and to top it all off, he also passes on his expertise when teaching and working with budding photographers - what a guy!

It can be a strange and interesting journey in the entertainment world, just when you think you know your place and start to establish some form of predictability, along comes a job or opportunity and the tables are turned!
A few episodes ago Drew and Sam took on the topic of auditions, and discussed what can be involved in, and how they navigate those tricky but oh so very important moments in a performer’s life. In today’s show they flip things round and give some insight into their experiences of being on the other side of that audition process. Both of the chaps have held castings, sat in on auditions, or been involved in assembling a team for various productions, but just how (if at all) does actually being an actor affect their approach and treatment of those attending the castings? And what have been the results of, and, perhaps most importantly of all, what have they learned from these auditions?

Have no fear, today’s episode title isn’t suggesting that Drew and Sam are straying from the straight and narrow, nor have they lost all reason (well no more than usual anyway!) Thankfully, Drewling Samantics will continue to be the very best it can be. In actual fact, “Off the Rails” refers, rather appropriately, to this week’s fabulous guest, Tim Nixon.
Both the boys have had the pleasure of working with Tim, and knew a little of his ‘life before the boards’, but Tim has much more to tell. Prior to making the decision to become an actor full-time (if there is such a thing!), Tim had a very long and successful career as a… Well it’s no good revealing that just yet, that’s to find out in the show itself! But suffice to say he helped keep Londoners on the move, before he himself made his substantial career move.
Tim tells the Drewling Samantics chaps about his past work, sharing some great stories and memories, and then explains how and why he turned life on its head to become an performer. Although relatively new to the business, he has had much success in many fields, and the relish with which he tackles his work is truly inspiring to anyone new to this world - or equally those who are also considering taking the leap.

The boys are back in the flat this week, and Drewling Samantics regulars will know that Drew and Sam being together in the same room means there’s potential for perhaps even more chat, banter (and beers) than usual!
Today’s episode deals with the tricky business of turning down work, or having to say no to a job (be that before it’s even begun or due to developments once in the swing of things). Fortunately for the our podcasting pair, and the majority of their colleagues, this is a very rare occurrence - in fact given the precarious nature of their work and the scarcity of job offers and contracts, very few performers and creatives will ever be in the position where they need to consider such a decision, however, there may come a time that for various reasons the job that seemed so tempting suddenly becomes less so and the only option is to say “No”.
Treading carefully, the chaps relate back on some of their own personal experiences, and recall others they have heard about, and, whether it be economic reasons (in other words the money is unacceptable or even potentially illegal!) or on more delicate/complicated grounds, the only true solution has been to walk away.
Like every industry, sadly there are a few scoundrels in the entertainment world, and actors can experience the odd occasion where they have to protect themselves or others. So tune in to yet another intriguing Drewling Samantics episode to hear some stories of when things really are too good to be true!

This season’s guests are a well-travelled lot, and that is equally true with Drewling Samantics’ latest visitor - Paul Burley. After discovering at a young age that he had a joy and skill for performing, Paul pursued a career that has enabled him to travel and entertain across an impressive variety of locations and disciplines. Quietly ambitious, passionate and driven, he doesn’t show off, and even at times seems mildly surprised to discover the talent he has! But thankfully he had excellent advice and mentors along the way, and took it upon himself to seize every moment as well.
Aside from being endearingly charming and witty, Paul has some great experiences to share from his training, cruise ship performing, and most recently storming the holiday park entertainment world! His inspiring insights and honesty, coupled with his determination and ability to learn and adapt have certainly helped deal with an ever-changing entertainment industry, and in this episode he also talks about how he’s managed to combine his love for magic with his ongoing quest for expanding his skills.
Time flies when you’re having fun, and that is very evident for Drew and Sam during their enormously entertaining chat with Paul, so tune in now to join in with all the merriment!

It’s straight in in today’s episode, with a subject that is very much a regular topic of consideration for our podcasting pair - Drew and Sam are discussing auditions! A necessary evil some might say, but actors and performers spend a great deal of time trying to get, prepare for, and (with any luck!) nail them! Castings, test-shoots, auditions, all can be a bit of a headache and a trial, but equally sometimes are fun and can be enjoyed. Two main things are for certain however - the business can’t do without them, and performers can’t avoid them!
Whatever form they take, from in-person, workshop, open call, recall, self-tape, or other, every individual has their own methods of preparation and dealing with the almost inevitable nerves, the other auditionees, and the often intimidating panel that are all par for the course when it comes to trying to land a role. And auditions certainly can be a minefield to navigate, so Drew and Sam discuss how they personally try to step carefully (yet enthusiastically!) through the process, and hopefully come out the other side with “the job”.
Yet another massive subject is addressed by our dynamic duo, and not just wanting listeners, viewers and subscribers to enjoy the episode, this is another opportunity where the chaps actively encourage involvement - after all it’s all one big podcast family here at Drewling Samantics!

This week the Drewling Samantics boys happened to be recording on a rather significant day, and a little word play hints at just that… but no spoilers here - all is revealed in the episode! And that is far from being the limit of the excitement in today’s show, as the chaps are also joined by yet another superb guest!
Fredrick “Freddie” Brandes has only just returned from a visit to Cannes film festival, but that fortunately didn’t stop him taking time out from his very busy schedule (or away from packing to move house!) to share some experiences, stories, anecdotes, and much more with Drew and Sam. Freddie is a knowledge junkie, always eager and able to learn new skills and explore fresh avenues to further his performance journey. Indeed, he has physically covered more ground than most, and having German and Welsh parentage perhaps helped inspire his travelling to, living in, and studying in numerous nations including Germany, Scotland and England to name but a few. Starting out initially training in opera, he branched out to musical theatre, but he didn’t stop there and also plies his trade as an actor, musician, composer, conductor, and producer with projects in the pipeline - just a few sills to speak of then!
So if all that has you intrigued, the next step is simple - dive right in and fight out more about this enormously talented chap. Oh, and as if that wasn’t tempting enough there’s even a special treat at the end to experience too! Wow, what an episode!

An illness has targeted one half of our podcasting pair, but did that stop this week’s recording? Absolutely not! Drewling Samantics remains resilient, and a mere virus can’t halt the boys on their quest to bring entertaining content to the masses! Inadvertently though, being temporarily resigned to watching daytime TV in bed has helped inspire this episode’s subject matter it would seem. Every cloud, as they say!
Some people are particularly accomplished in specific aspects of their craft beyond all others, dedicating their whole energies to being the very best in that specialised field. And while that is not unique to the entertainment industry (far from it) the performance world calls upon many abilities so being more versed in some over others makes a lot of sense. Dancers and singers in certain disciplines such as opera or ballet, or, as becomes a focal point of today’s show, Irish dancing, become extremely skilled, and their whole career then reflects that dedication and remarkable talent as they seek to reach perfection.
No matter how gifted a person may be, everyone can think of a couple of things they wish they could be better at, or would have enjoyed pursuing further, and that is equally true for our dynamic duo. But what exactly could those things be? Well you’ll just have to join them now to find out more!

It could be said that every actor or performer takes some form of risk when working in the industry or has “skin in the game” to use modern parlance. Well, that is certainly true of this week’s guest, and in more ways than one!
Colleen Daley is a truly multi-talented actor and has certainly embodied the aforementioned phrase (no spoilers here though!) Early on her passion for performing took her to drama school, a highly successful time for her, and then she ventured out in to the big wide world of the profession, where she seized the opportunity to hone her skills further.
Colleen has taken part in in straight plays, musicals, TV shows and commercials, but a series of fortunate events led from a theatrical job to a wonderful opportunity in children’s television. She describes how four years of her professional life was spent becoming a voice beloved by thousands of children - not only in the UK but all across the globe including places like France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Singapore, Australia and may more. And it wasn’t just the on TV, live shows and even albums had the pleasure of showcasing Colleen’s talents as well!
Safe to say all that is more than enough to make anyone intrigued, so join, Drew, Sam and Colleen for another fabulous Drewling Samantics episode, where the boys literally get under the skin with behind-the-scenes detail!

Just when you thought you knew someone, they catch you off guard you with something surprising! Drew and Sam may be pretty confident in their knowledge of each other (it’s to be expected having spent this long working together) but in this week’s show they actually learn new information about one another! Following on from a previous episode that looked into the day to day job-related activities of a performer, today the boys discuss the importance and nature of down-time, and debate whether they are able to, or indeed ever want to, fully switch off and escape from “work”.
A break, a step away, free time, spare time, however you phrase it, it seems it is a rarity that anyone in the entertainment business does truly “get away”. That is not a complaint of course, but it does mean that how free time is spent can be extremely important. Obviously this applies to many professions, but particularly those considered a vocation or a job chosen due to the pleasure taken in doing it, it would seem.

The first guest of Season Thirteen makes a timely entrance and delights Drew and Sam with his wit, knowledge, joy for what he does, and a rather large helping of cheeky irreverence to boot! Robin Payne joins the Drewling Samantics boys this week and having already given the taller half of the podcast pair the immense pleasure of his company whilst on a UK and Ireland tour (as is discussed during the episode), Robin’s presence can now be shared and thoroughly enjoyed by the more senior team member, and of course fans, followers and subscribers of the show as well.
Robin is gently self-deprecating, describing himself as someone who simply likes hitting things! Now, while that may well be true, it in no way does justice to his skill and experience, as he is a hugely experienced and talented musician, playing in pit orchestras and bands in a great number shows and circumstances. He has toured widely with many productions, passes on his knowledge to others via teaching, and is also an experienced session player as well. Since his early career he has had a passion for drumming and says that he is “a drummer and not a percussionist”, a distinction he explains to the chaps.
It will come as no surprise then, that such a long and varied career has left Robin with distinct and well considered opinions and a collection of great stories. Equally then it is logical that it an enormously enjoyable time was had by all during his visit with the Drewling Samantics team, so join the three of them now to share in that experience too!

It’s Easter time and whilst some of Drewling Samantics’ faithful listeners and viewers are on the hunt for Easter Eggs and the Easter Bunny, there is no need to search for the new season of Drewling Samantics - it’s finally here, in all its glory!
Yes the boys are back, despite popular demand (only joking of course!), and are ready to bring us all lots more top quality podcast content. A short break full of filming, production and performing commitments, modelling assignments and theatrical shows didn’t stop the chaps finding time to plan and prepare for this, their thirteenth collection of episodes - and specifically in this case, the first show of this new season. And quite the episode it is, as the lads jump straight into discussing what exactly a “jobbing actor” is - or, perhaps more interestingly, what they do outside of the obvious shows, films and other tangible examples of entertainment work. A performer’s day is always filled with job hunting, admin, practice, and simple day to day chores as they explain, and there are even things that wouldn’t necessarily spring to mind at first, but are just as important and essential.
Fortunately though, however busy Drew and Sam are, they will always find time to put together their weekly podcast and share a drink and some banter - in fact, after this season opener they have another twelve weeks of fresh chat and guests “waiting in the wings”, so don’t miss out - they certainly won’t be hiding anything!

This is it, truly the last Drewling Samantics show of Season Twelve! So what do we do after this finale? There are no more episodes! (Well not until Season Thirteen anyway - but more of that in due course).
The simple answer of course is to enjoy this last outing, especially seeing it’s another highlights show - and what a season it has been! Numerous beers, teas and coffees have been poured and consumed over these past six months (and yes - Season Twelve really has spanned that enormous time frame!) and a few more beverages flowed as they deliberated over choosing their favourite bits. Not an easy task seeing as the boys have covered an impressive amount of territory this season, with a discussion topic list including: producing, AI, films, new writing, understudies, and big surprises to name but a few! All this and they even managed to take a break to go off and work over the Christmas period - insanity! But they have indeed managed to re-listen to and re-watch all this season’s content, and attempted (How successfully? You decide!) to bring all of their most memorable moments together, for this conclusion of Season Twelve.
So, before Drew and Sam take a well deserved short break to prepare for a new season, take a dip into this collection and then why not go back and relive some previous episodes in full, the chaps promise not to keep everyone waiting too long!

Another season is coming to an end, and we’ve been lucky enough to experience six more action-packed and content-filled episodes where Drew and Sam welcomed visitors to the podcast. The levels of talent and quality have only been matched by the laughs, banter, fascinating facts and overall brilliance these wonderful guests have brought to the show, and it’s safe to say every single episode has been thoroughly enjoyable.

It’s the time of awards ceremonies, where new comers and regulars, remakes and rewrites, brilliance and genius are all rewarded for a job well done, and as always there have been some pleasant shocks along with the expectedly predictable results.
Looking specifically at films and their budgets, in today’s episode the boys take a curious peek at how big budget movies and their profits compare to those that, financially speaking, are less well-endowed. The facts can be rather enlightening; and we are invited to join Drew and Sam to share in their surprise at the resulting success of various films, and their astonishment at some of the investments - both big and small! And it’s not only recent films that have either cost a fortune or been produced on a shoe string, a look back at past productions reveals some interesting conclusions too!

Dom Thomson is a relatively new member of the acting family, but that hasn’t stopped him experiencing several avenues of performance in such a short time: touring theatre, ballet (although not as you may think, as he explains), interactive and immersive shows, new writing - he certainly hasn’t been a slouch! And his “origin story” is perhaps a seemingly familiar one, but with a definite twist. As we know, during the visit of the “Unwelcome Guest” many members of the arts experienced a variety of difficulties and challenges that resulted in taking unexpected action - some took on other jobs (in rare cases leaving the performing world on a permanent basis), some relied on savings, some did lots of remote work, and some even started podcasts! Dom however took almost the opposite change of direction, leaving his regular job, and, after a period of reflection, decided to become an actor! This is never an easy choice, and for Dom too there were certain obstacles, but then an amazing event helped Dom on his way…

Don’t worry, despite what may be apparent from social media imagery, our two favourite podcasters haven’t been replaced by robot doppelgangers! But today’s episode does have a rather futuristic feel. You see in recent times two letters have caused puzzlement, consternation, hope, anger, worry, investment and much else in the entertainment industry, and indeed in the arts more widely... Those letters of course, are AI.
There is no denying its impact, or ignoring the ever-growing influence of AI, and this week Drew and Sam dive into the world of this technology, and especially its as yet undefined effects on the future of the performance world. It is such a fast-moving technology that there seem to be no boundaries or limits, and the boys explore some of the legal and professional ramifications and possible failings. It’s not all bad news however there are some benefits to look forward to, and some fun to be had.
Such a large and ever growing subject cannot be covered in a single episode, which is why the chaps have touched upon it before, and no doubt will visit it again in the future, but for now dive in and enjoy this thought provoking and frank chat about a technology that is (to paraphrase a certain marvel villain's famous statement) “Inevitable”.

The Drewling Samantics boys have always been great supporters of enterprising and determined creatives, so it’s no surprise that this week’s guest is one such professional.
Joe Potter is an ambitious and driven producer, and his company Trunk Theatre (that just happens to have one particularly familiar actor as part of the team...) is a testament to his approach to creating fantastic theatre. Aside from writing and producing high quality Theatre in Education, and touring these productions for several years, Joe has also had many roles in the arts himself, having tried his hand at many facets of the arts, and his honest appraisal of his abilities has led him to keep on exploring until finding the hat that fits best.
Joe is uncompromising in his opinions regarding the performance industry, and it is just this strength and clarity that has brought him and Trunk the success they deserve. Joe is the latest wonderful guest that Drew and Sam take great pleasure in interviewing and sharing some banter with - and yet another brilliant visitor for all Drewling Samantics fans and followers to enjoy!

Well Drew and Sam are really throwing a few surprises into the mix this season as in this episode they are unexpectedly united to do an in-person recording!
It really is a nice surprise to see them back on the sofa together, drinks in hand and banter at the ready, and to keep the theme of unpredictability going, in this episode of Drewling Samantics the boys’ discussion centres around unanticipated events that can impact a show or performance.

Drewling Samantics fans and followers alike must feel so very lucky, as the great guests just keep on coming! Before you go looking for some sticky back plastic and fairy liquid bottles (if you know you know!) Drew and Sam haven’t turned to arts and crafts this week, rather the boys spend this episode discussing, exploring and debating the art of creating one’s own opportunities in the entertainment world.
In an increasingly crowded and traditionally competitive industry, where there are always many performers seeking limited roles, more actors and creatives are “making their own work”. Writing, directing, producing and promoting, it is now fairly common to see the modern performer undertaking some (and even at times all) of these tasks and roles in order to put on plays, make films and release all sorts of new material.
However, there are obviously positives and negatives to cutting out the middleman and wearing all the hats, as in order to experience the end goal it does normally mean taking risks at the same time. Using the examples of recent guests and Drew himself, the Drewling Samantics lads discuss the excitement, hard work, determination and fear that it takes to fully become “your own boss”, and the rewards that (hopefully) follow.

The wait is over, Drewling Samantics is back! Yes Drew and Sam have returned for the second half (or to be more precise, the next two thirds) of Season Twelve! The boys have had a great Christmas season working and celebrating, but now they’re resuming the more serious, but equally enjoyable business of bringing their fans their favourite entertainment podcast!

Following a summer of classic plays for both our Drewling Samantics hosts, this week’s episode gives them an opportunity to discuss new writing - something the pair have also enjoyed working on in the recent past as well.
From playwrights producing new plays, to TIE (Theatre In Education), and from commissioned works and competition winners to community theatre and the many, many more areas of performance, there is a wealth of new writing regularly being given life. Getting new works “from the page to the stage” is no easy feat, it is almost always a long and tricky journey with many challenges, but (fortunately) performers do eventually get to seize the chance to breathe life into something fresh and new - a great privilege with even greater responsibility when it comes to doing justice to the piece and pleasing and impressing the writer and the anticipated audience in equal measure.
Drew and Sam have been involved in quite a few new works throughout their careers, and long time Drewling Samantics aficionados have travelled some of those production journeys with them, so today’s podcast outing is a time for looking back on some of those productions as it cements even further just how important new writing is - you might even say it’s the life blood of the performing arts!

It’s guest week once again for Drew and Sam, and their visitor this time out is the brilliant Tiran Aakel, who is clearly conquering the stage both on tour and in town!
Tiran is a wonderful actor of great depth and character, with a career spanning several decades, but most recently having been involved in some modern classics like The Kite Runner, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and - a show he is hoping he’ll hopefully have the opportunity to revisit in its potential upcoming tour - The Girl On The Train. Not only that, but he, like Drew, enjoys and excels at playing Manuel in Fawlty Towers dinner theatre shows.
Amongst other topics, Tiran talks about the importance and privilege of communicating powerful social and political messages through the medium of performance. His ability has allowed him to take part in some very poignant shows - productions such as The Jungle, which deals with the suffering of refugees and the human condition itself, and others too, that allow audiences to get more than enjoyment alone from theatre experiences.
An actor with heart, commitment and an understanding of just how deeply theatre can influence and inspire, Tiran is a fascinating and intelligent guest, whose visit to Drewling Samantics is one not to be missed!

After a brilliant visitor last week - the wonderful Jonathan Carlton, their first guest of the season no less - Drew and Sam are back in duo mode today, bringing us another content-filled thrill ride of epic podcast proportions! Drew and Sam are feeling grateful and excited in equal measure this week, as for the first time in Season Twelve they are lucky enough to be joined by a brilliant visitor - and what a way to start the guest visits!
Jonathan Carlton is an extremely talented performer with numerous West End shows under his belt, including some of the most popular stage musicals of recent times. But his work has not been limited to dry land, Jonathan is also a season performer when it comes to the world of cruise-ship entertainment - a veteran of the seas you might say! Theatrical endeavours on the waves have become more and more respected as a training ground for musical theatre actors (especially with the impressive quality of the shows in modern times) and Jonathan is a shining example of the high standards of production to be found on board ships.
He discusses his journey through the industry, some of his favourite roles, why educating and supporting performers from a young age is so important, the wonderful if a little surreal event of meeting a relative stranger who is very significant in his life, and even the advantages of a well-fitting high heel! With great stories and even greater advice Jonathan is a fabulous first guest and certainly sets the bar high for the rest of the season!

Finally the wait is over... they are back! Yes, the Drewling Samantics boys have returned for their much anticipated and eagerly awaited twelfth season!
The last couple of months or so have certainly seemed to drag on without Drew and Sam popping up with some podcast fun every week, and clearly they have missed chatting with each other and their guests too. Whenever the fifteenth episode of the season comes around Drew and Sam know that it really has come to the end, and at that point they know there are only two things left to do - to look forward excitedly to the next season and (something just as exciting) to look back and choose their favourite moments and highlights from their seven episodes together!

It’s the last Drew and Sam episode of Season 11, and in this season finale they are singing the praises of their audience members - or at least appreciating the variety and quirks that different groups of patrons can bring.
Love them or hate them (with the latter only occurring on very rare occasions of course!) there would be no point to a performance of any kind without an audience... or would there?! In fact could there actually be a performance with no audience at all?! Hold that thought, as there’s a whole episode worth of discussion there in itself! Season Eleven of Drewling Samantics is almost over - where has the time gone?! Indeed, today’s episode is the last time in the season that the chaps are visited by a guest, and it’s safe to say they are ending with a bang!
Pete Løvstrøm has had a fascinating career, and that is putting it lightly. Starting out he chanced his arm and landed on his feet, which you could say came as a bit of shock to him! He had the good fortune, and the talent of course, to share stage and screen with some up and coming actors, directors and producers of the time - a much appreciated side effect for a young man starting out during a period when theatre was getting a rather substantial kick up the backside from the emerging talent that would go on to be theatre and TV heavyweights.
Pete talks with energy, passion and great knowledge, and a joy for the work he made his specialty. Taking inspiration from his hero Buster Keaton, learning from and emulating him where he could, he carved a particular niche for himself that has won him large amounts of work and plenty of justified admiration. The art forms of “pratfalls” and slapstick comedy have enormous history and respect, and Pete is no stranger to either -, in fact they exactly what he loves most!
So tune in now for an episode full of pure theatre, and witness Pete sweep Drew and Sam off their feet (theoretically speaking!) It’s the perfect reminder of just what Drewling Samantics is all about!

Well, it has been a very busy time lately hasn’t it! A general election in the UK, football’s European Championships and the Copa America, Wimbledon, and an election in France to name but a few big recent events. Drew and Sam have been very busy performing and rehearsing too, and even PicNick is busy (well he’s on holiday, but he works extremely hard so he’s earned it!) But the Drewling Samantics team are never so busy that they can’t take some time out and release another podcast episode for loyal fans, followers and listeners.

The wonderful thing about the entertainment business is the opportunities and challenges it presents, and the joy that is to be had in enjoying and conquering them. If it weren’t for enterprising and creative people it could be said there would be no ‘Arts’.
This week’s guest is a perfect example of just that – Su Gilroy is a talented, hard-working, gifted and driven professional who loves the theatre and has immersed herself in almost every facet. Su has worked as an actor, director, stage manager, company manager, dresser, dramaturg, deviser.. in fact the list is almost endless! And that would be enough for most people, but not Su, as this summer she adds producer to the list for she will be producing three plays in a short weekly repertory season at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis. As she explains there is an enormous amount of work to be done and even she can’t be everywhere at once (though not for lack of trying!) But does she crumble? Of course not! She still finds time to join Drew and Sam to share her love for her work and give us all a few valuable theatre lessons on the way.

This week we join Drew and Sam for the 159th episode of Drewling Samantics. Not necessarily a notable anniversary it’s true, but it is an achievement that the boys have kept this show going solidly, despite often being inundated with work, having personal commitments, regularly needing to change locations, and taking into account the sheer lack of time to bring entertaining podcast content to listeners, watchers, followers and fans alike. And why do they ensure they make time to keep things going regardless of everything else? Because they love doing it of course!

No disguises or imposters this week on Drewling Samantics, just another visiting talent and friend to share experiences and stories with our happy hosts!
The chaps are delighted to welcome Andrew Lindfield this week, who shares his journey through the business with them, spreading knowledge and joy on the way. Despite early musical success drumming in a band, he was never truly content sitting at the back, and previous love for amateur dramatics inspired him to make a change, so he took himself off to drama school to learn his trade – resulting in flourishing as an actor and now producer. But training didn’t come without its challenges - there was a rather unexpected obstacle to overcome as is revealed when Andie tells perhaps one of the most shocking and dramatic guest stories ever!
Drew and Sam are great advocates of creating your own work, and Andie has certainly done that! Making the leap and forming DOT Productions with his wife Louisa, they now tour Nationally each summer performing classic plays for adults and children alike, with this season’s shows featuring a rather familiar face..! And as the performances are mostly open air, let’s hope the good old British weather is kind to them!
Andie is great fun, informative, entertaining and knowledgeable, and you’ll certainly want to hear that amazing story towards the end, so what are you waiting for?!

Back with another week of ‘banter about the business’, on today’s show Drew and Sam throw around a few ideas and thoughts regarding portraying real life figures. They are inspired by the sad passing of Jeanette Charles, an actress who for many years impersonated the late Queen Elizabeth, and would probably these days be considered a “look-a-like”. Jeanette was beloved by the public and appeared in many TV shows and films as her royal doppelganger, but recreating celebrities on screen has certainly never been limited to monarchs.
There have been innumerous biopics and plenty of memorable performances, (recent blockbuster Oppenheimer was enormously successful and is just one example to have a variety of real life people reincarnated), so building on that, Drew and Sam, who are no strangers themselves to playing popular figures, discuss their favourite performances and the pitfalls and benefits involved in portraying someone real. It’s safe to say expectation is great when an actor steps into the shoes and life of a famous personage, and today’s show is bound to provoke much though and many differing opinions regarding who has made a success of the task.

Guest week has arrived again on Drewling Samantics, and a treat is in store for all podcast fans and followers. This week’s visitor Roman Stefanski is an actor, director and puppeteer, however, those titles are far too vague for a performer who inspires others and breathes life into seemingly inanimate objects. Fun, energetic, very self-effacing, technically skilled, and the proud owner of a cheeky grin and glint in his eye, Roman has certainly never lost the joy of ‘play’!
His decades long association with Polka Children’s Theatre is quite a tale, and indeed being that it is when Drew first worked with Roman, (quite a few years ago it’s safe to say!) there are even more stories to share there! This humble gent would have everyone believe he has luck to thank for most of his success, but as becomes very clear, it is his ability to get to the soul of a character and his joy and skill for story-telling that has delighted thousands of children and driven his work.

The Drewling Samantics boys return again, and Drew and Sam are in a particularly revealing mood this week (ooh err!) Before diving into their main topic of discussion, they say cheers to, and share some wonderful memories of and facts about, two Hollywood greats that have sadly recently left us.
Today’s chat soon moves to their individual career paths - how they started, the plans they had, and how those initial pathways have changed and been influenced by time, personal circumstances, new technology, and the ever-changing demands of the entertainment industry.
This episode treats us to some rather interesting insights from the chaps, who have come at the business from very different angles, and have arrived at destinations and travelled on routes they themselves wouldn’t necessarily have guessed. One prediction our podcasting pair will make though, is that you’re guaranteed to learn some new tit-bits about them - much like the way they have learned a bit more about each other. The lads at podcast HQ are joined by another guest this week, but you could be forgiven for thinking there must be more than one due to the extensive list of things this man does! Yes indeed, Drew and Sam’s visitor has an impressive collection of academic qualifications, and while for many that would be enough, for him that is simply not the case. Drewling Samantics is of course a performance based podcast, so as you probably guessed he has an equally enviable roll of industry credits, covering a multitude of disciplines from TV and film to theatre – and these many talents are all encased in one brilliant and charming chap, the wonderful Brian Law.
Brian hails from Toronto, has studied and worked all around the world gathering degrees and diplomas on the way, and eventually landed on these fair shores to continue his studies and begin what has rapidly become a fabulous acting career.
Incredibly modest, Brian chats about his past and present work as well as his ideas and aims for the future. Clearly he has an inquiring mind, with a thirst for knowledge about all his chosen disciplines, and equally he has no intention of standing still. So just like Drew and Sam, now is the perfect time for us all to catch up with and find out lots more about Brian, before he disappears off on his next adventure anyway!

We’re back once again with Drew and Sam, and this week’s agenda promises some spirited discussion and subject matter for both the boys to get their teeth into!
A review of a couple of current industry news items prompts some interesting diversions, and results in raising some differing opinions (not the first time the chaps have been in this sort of territory!) Our podcasting pair always stand strong behind their views and they rarely get too heated, however recent television awards and content warnings in theatres light the blue touch paper in this, their latest outing, and... well the only way to find out more is to listen or watch what happened next!
Spoiler alert - nobody was injured in the making of this episode, all is sure to end peacefully and of course in good humour, but Drew and Sam do leave the door open for wider involvement, and, as they tell us, are eagerly awaiting input from the outside world regarding their points of discussion.

It’s guest time for the first time this season, and the Drewling Samantics boys are delighted to be joined this week by the brilliant Gary-Anthony Rogers.
We’ve all heard the phrase “the power behind the throne”, well Gary takes that in a slightly different direction by being the power behind the camera. As a talented and dedicated Director of Photography (DOP), he is always in great demand, so Drew and Sam consider themselves extremely fortunate that he’s able to take time out from his immensely busy schedule to discuss his career, how he started in the industry, and to throw some more light on the numerous projects he’s juggling at present. Gary is also able to explain how he fits into the team surrounding the director and the camera itself, to bring the script and visuals to life in the best way possible. And if you’ve ever watched the credits roll at the end of a film and wondered what those obscure and unusual job titles actually mean, Gary even decodes some of that technical jargon for us as well!
Calm, clever and insightful, Gary is fascinating and witty regarding his work, always unflappable on set, and just the man for those tricky shoots. Well, almost always, you see there was that time… nope – not spoiling it! The only way to reveal more is to tune in now!

Drew and Sam very much enjoyed looking back at highlights of their guest visits in last week’s show, and today they are equally confident in putting a smile on the faces of all their loyal followers and fans by sharing some of their own best bits of Season Ten.

It’s been a season of great variety, with the guests dropping in on Drewling Samantics representing many industry disciplines, and (directly or indirectly) many countries too. Drew and Sam have had the pleasure of talking to Allan Turner-Ward, Tony Jopia, Matt Trayler, Tyler Marlow, Paula Fareri and Leo Abad over the past three and a bit months, and to say this collection of performers is enormously talented is quite the understatement! Their fabulous array of visitors have taken on and mastered many vocations and specialties, with roles, jobs and skills including filmmaking and production, DJ’ing, musical theatre performance, speaking (and singing in) multiple languages, directing, presenting radio, acting, educating, event managing, and even taking to the stage as a pantomime Dame! As well as this impressive collection of talents, they have covered the world between them, touching foreign soil in places such as Chile, Italy, the Middle East, America, France, China, Germany, and... Whitley Bay!
This once-per-season show always gives Drew and Sam the chance to remember some highlights from the wonderful people who were kind and generous enough to share their experiences, stories and time while visiting DrewlingSamantics, and Season Ten’s iteration is certainly no different. Of course it’s also a brilliant opportunity for fans and followers to relive (or for new listeners and/or viewers, to experience for the first time) the thrill and enjoyment of what these hugely talented individuals brought to everyone’s favourite podcast!

People often say you should never look back, however there is always an exception to every rule which today the Drewling Samantics boys are glad to exercise, with every reason to look back over what has been such a great season!
Once again we have reached the time where Drew and Sam round off their exploits, ruminate on what has been experienced, and head into a well earned break. It has been an enormously interesting and entertaining season, with a fantastic variety of debates and discussions, as well as numerous news topics and stories to follow, and not forgetting of course the hugely enjoyable visits from some brilliant industry professionals. They also reflect back on an idea that proved to be extremely popular with listeners and viewers alike, where they took the opportunity to put themselves under the microscope by taking questions from past guests, and, whether you consider it to be brave and revealing, or weird and wonderful, it is likely to be something they will be doing again in the not too distant future!
But this week they aren’t just taking a look back over the previous episodes, as there is still room for a more chat and deliberation. So before we dive into our last episodes of the season , the always entertaining ‘Best Of’ episodes, why not join Drew and Sam to bid farewell to Season Ten, and brace themselves for Season Eleven!

Today the Drewling Samantics chaps are joined but someone so fresh faced and youthful that it’s enough to make them both feel old! Yes this show sees the lads welcome their most recent guest, the bright and brilliant talent that is musical theatre performer Leo Abad.
Having not long graduated from Laine Theatre Arts stage school, Leo was straight off on a national tour, taking on (among other roles) the part of the White Rabbit in the wonderful Shrek The Musical! This is certainly not his first professional credit though, as he appeared in panto with one half of the Drewling Samantics team, and, as professional debuts go, it was definitely an eventful experience as Leo explains (no, not just because he had to share the stage with Sam!) Leo is on the road with Shrek for a few more weeks before that magical adventure comes to its end, however this talented young man won’t have an opportunity to stop, as he jumps immediately into his first West End contract! But of course, which show is it that Leo is joining you ask? Well you’ll have to tune in to find out more as it’s not as simple a Leo doing a big reveal... or is it?!
Another fabulous guest makes for another fabulous episode; Leo is a true delight, full of energy, enthusiasm and ambition, and has a smile that lights up every room. The Drewling Samantics boys are honoured to welcome him for this fantastic interview and they’re sure you’ll find him as entertaining as they did.
