Four essential aspects to consider when finding the perfect wedding dress are the type of wedding you are having, your personal style, body type, and budget. 

Although the limited transparency in pricing may make it hard to set a budget, Julie recommends checking a free download on their resources page for detailed guidance on navigating wedding dress pricing.

Brides should plan their shopping day several weeks in advance. Julie suggests calling salons beforehand to find out about their average dress prices, appointment durations, and restrictions on group sizes and for information on any ongoing trunk shows. 

Brides do not need to bring much to appointments, as most salons provide all the necessary items. However, Julie recommends bringing shoes, undergarments, and snacks. She also suggests wearing something easy to change in and out of to make trying on dresses easier.

Brides should only have two supportive and positive companions to accompany them. Julie advises against including anyone who may impose their opinions or agendas on the bride.

There is a difference between shopping for wedding dresses and regular clothing. Julie advises brides to approach the initial session with an open mind, explore a variety of dress shapes, and consider any unexpected choices that consultants may offer. Brides should reflect on the experience afterward, acknowledging the insights they gained during the first appointment to inform their decision-making in subsequent sessions.

With their extensive knowledge about dresses, bridal consultants are a valuable source of information. Brides should be honest and open and offer constructive feedback when communicating with consultants. 

Working with bridal consultants can sometimes be tricky. Julie assures brides that requesting a different consultant is a reasonable and acceptable step if the relationship is too challenging. 

Julie advises brides to document every dress they try on with photos or videos, making notes of their likes and dislikes. Focusing on your personal style is a game-changer! Personal style is not one-dimensional. It is a unique blend of elements encompassing various layers and reflecting different sides of our personalities. Often, we simplify it as either classic or boho, but the reality is far more intricate. 

We have been using a strategy we refer to as the Style Cocktail method with our clients for many years to help them break down their personal style, wedding style, body type, and budget. We compare personal style to a cocktail with a base, mixer, and a splash of something extra. In Julie’s upcoming book, Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle, she has dedicated an entire chapter to the Cocktail Style method. You can think of it as the key to unlocking your personal preferences, and it works like a charm! 

Time to raid your closet, ladies! Look closely at the colors, fabrics, and embellishments you naturally lean toward. It will be like having your closet tell you a story about your style.

To define your body shape and confirm what makes you feel fabulous, check out the necklines, skirt shapes, and sleeve lengths you prefer. 

In addition to your closet, your Instagram feed can spill some of your style secrets. To make the most of Instagram, look for hashtags, designer profiles, and real brides for inspiration. It is a goldmine when used strategically.

Use specific search terms and be as detailed as possible when using Pinterest. Pin anything that catches your eye, and then step back. When you return a day or two later, edit your board and notice the trends. The key is spotting your top designers and trends. 

Now that you have armed yourself with your Style Cocktail insights and a killer Pinterest board, it is time to prepare for your dress appointments. Go to your first appointment with a clear view of your preferences, but remain open to new ideas. Get to know the names or style numbers of the dresses you are after, and look for local stores carrying those dresses. Being as efficient and specific as possible will save you time and make the entire process smoother.

The overwhelming barrage of online images can also make it very hard for brides to envision whether or not a dress will suit them. 

The overwhelming amount of available information on the internet, coupled with uncertainty about where to begin, often paralyzes brides, and online shopping further complicates their decision-making process.

Brides need to have a wedding timeline. They should start with their wedding dress and then choose the outfits for the bridesmaids before thinking about what their mother should wear. They also need to focus on the season and consider the weather on their wedding day when selecting an outfit for their mother.

Julie prefers to break the timeline down into quarters when guiding brides on when to focus on the different aspects of their wedding timeline. She explains that the timeline should always be flexible to allow for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

Julie’s top tip for brides is to prioritize their comfort. She believes that brides should never sacrifice their comfort for fashion because it is essential for brides to be physically and mentally comfortable to enjoy their wedding day fully.

Hello everyone, and a warm welcome to the first episode of our brand-new season! 

We are your hosts, Julie Sabatino and Di Mercado, and we can’t wait to tell you about all the fun things we have in store for you this season. By the end of this episode, you will have learned what it means to be your own bridal muse and understand why that is so important.

Di is our Senior Stylist at Stylish Bride and will be our co-host for this podcast season. Dee brings a unique perspective to the team. She was born and raised in a small city in Puerto Rico and now lives in New York City with her husband, Jeff. Proud of her college days as a volleyball player, Di enjoys an active lifestyle, engaging in activities like Zumba and swimming. She loves returning to Puerto Rico to visit her family as often as possible.

Di's career path initially evolved from styling custom suits for men to freelance styling and then shifted to red-carpet styling. After COVID turned the world upside down, she found a new home at Stylish Bride, where she has been an invaluable part of the team for the past two and a half years. Fortunately, she found her experience with red carpet styling similar to that of bridal styling, making her transition easy and seamless.

We have exciting plans for this podcast season. We will dive deeply into bridal styling, sharing our insights and exploring the concept of being your own muse. 

Becoming your own muse is all about finding your inner inspiration and steering away from external pressures and social media. We are committed to empowering brides and providing the tools they need for a confident and profoundly personal bridal journey.
