Babypalooza 2 Continues!

“Finally ready to work again after giving birth to her baby, Dr. Mike must lead a rescue party when Sully and Cloud Dancing are among the passengers on a train that has been overtaken by robbers and wrecked. Sully had negotiated Cloud Dancing’s release from Army detention, and the two were taking the train to Colorado Springs when a gang of thieves derailed the train in an effort to rob it. Meanwhile, Dr. Mike must again face the prejudice against women doctors when she finds that the townspeople have become used to being treated by young Dr. Andrew Cook who filled in for her while she was on maternity leave. For his part, Andrew has become reluctant to return the practice to Dr. Mike and go back to Boston, as originally agreed.”

“When Sully opposes the construction of a nearby dam, he finds himself on the other side of the law and behind bars. Sully joins forces with Preston to try and peacefully stop the dam construction which will mean the end of hundreds of acres of countryside. But when Sully hears that the men Preston’s hired to hijack a shipment of dynamite are determined to kill any witnesses, Sully rides with them in order to prevent the murders. However, when witnesses attest to the fact that Sully was riding with the hijackers, Matthew is forced to arrest him and Sully must go to court where Judge Webster finds him guilty and throws him in jail, creating discord in the family.”

Happy Thanksgiving!  Kelly and Mark talk Thanksgiving foods and discuss everything about this wonderful episode!  We hope you enjoy this special Thanksgiving episode!

Giving Thanks is the seventh episode of Season 2 of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman and the twenty-fourth episode overall.

It’s Thanksgiving and the area is in the middle of a drought. Dr. Mike believes the Cheyenne can help the people in town survive, but the suspicions and prejudices of Jake and Loren threaten to get in the way.

Jake and Loren steal water from what they believe to be the Cheyenne’s secret supply of water, and sell it to others in town, despite warnings from Cloud Dancing. It doesn’t turn out quite like they expected it to and turns into an outbreak of dysentery .

Dr. Mike and Sully take their first steps at officially courting.

Summer is practically over! In our most requested episode to review, Kelly and Mark dive deeply into the “KKK Episode” and although neither of us would say this is exactly an, ‘enjoyable’ episode, it certainly made an impact and made us both cry.  We point out some key moments from Hank and explain why it is important to include this episode as the (nearly) final episode in the Summer of Hank collection! “Jedediah Bancroft, a Denver banker, returns to town to sell homes. When he accepts the winning bid on a home, not knowing it was Robert E. Jedediah first accepts the $700 bid, but then refuses to accept Grace and Robert E.’s money because they’re colored. Michaela defends Grace and Robert E. to Jedediah who finally accepts their money, but he isn’t happy about it. Jedediah sets out to do everything in his power to include having Dr. Mike tell Robert E. that the banker will buy back the property with 10% profit, and recruiting men of the town into the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Jedediah also has the men of his KKK branch destroy Grace’s Café, cut Grace’s hair off, setting loose Robert E.’s horses, beating up Robert E. at his livery, and threatening to hang Robert E. Matthew, Sully, Brian,Colleen, and Dr. Mike take up the fight against the KKK’s violence along side Robert E. and Grace; resulting in a cross being burned at the homestead, and Jedediah threatening the Cooper children at Hank’s saloon. Loren decides to help Grace and Robert E. to move in after the KKK tries to hang Robert E.” The First Circle originally aired on March 26, 1994

Orphan Train is the fifteenth episode of Season 2 of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, and the thirty-second episode of the series.

Dr. Mike spends time with the Reverend doing her best to help orphans find homes, while they stay with her in the meantime. The Reverend becomes interested in adopting children of his own, resulting in him proposing to Dr. Mike. She must decide whether to keep courting Sully or marry the Reverend.

While the orphans stay with Dr. Mike, Matthew, Colleen. and Brian begin to feel like she has no time for them.

Meanwhile, Robert E. makes a wooden leg for an orphaned amputee, and Hank hires Jennifer, a young orphaned girl. Due to hiring her, Hank offers to let Myra out of her contract. Myra must decide what she wants to do.

Kelly and Mark discuss Uncle Theodore and how it is so odd that Brian became a masterful musician overnight! We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did! “On a visit to Colorado Springs, Dr. Mike’s revered Uncle Theodore shocks her and Sully by criticizing their parenting skills with regard to Brian and offering to take Brian back with him to Boston. Brian considers leaving his family when Theodore, a concert pianist, recognizes the boy’s musical talent and tempts him with visions of becoming a concert pianist in Boston. Actually, Theodore dislikes what he considers to be the “liberal attitudes” of Sully and Dr. Mike that he feels put Brian in danger. When Brian is injured while on the trail with Sully, Theodore can no longer hide his feelings and Dr. Mike realizes that her uncle is attempting to replace his own lost son with Brian.”

In this episode we discuss how the Reverend has lost his vision as well as his struggle with accepting it, his relationship with Loren and how he can still do what he loves. “Brian suffers a crisis of faith when the Rev. Johnson is suddenly stricken with progressive blindness at Christmas time and Dr. Mike can’t help him. The townspeople are saddened by the Rev. Johnson’s affliction, but Brian sees the malady as God’s way of punishing the clergyman. The Reverend Johnson’s faith is also tested and he decides not to lead the Christmas Eve service. Meanwhile, Dr. Mike consults with Cloud Dancing about the situation, and it’s he who finds the words for Dr. Mike to explain to Brian and the Rev. Johnson that they should not consider the blindness a punishment from God, but instead a message that the preacher is to take a new path”
