Social Media and Fertility- helpful or harmful? 26 Sep 202500:33:13

This week Katy and I are digging into the pros and cons of social media and fertility. We discuss our personal experiences of it and the overwhelming amount of information available around fertility.

We discuss

  • how social media can provide valuable information for fertility journeys.
  • how personal relationships with social media can be both positive and negative.
  • the overwhelm from conflicting information & how it can hinder decision-making.
  • how connection with others in similar situations can alleviate feelings of isolation.
  • the dangers of misinformation and how it can lead to unethical practices in fertility advice.
  • how creating a separate account for positive content can help manage triggers.

Why You Don’t Always Need New Year’s Resolutions (esp when you're trying to conceive!)03 Jan 202500:24:41

I'm kicking off 2025 and our new series discussing the pressures surrounding New Year's resolutions and the unrealistic expectations often placed on individuals at the start of the year.

I'm joined by the always lovely Kirsty Harrison (fertility nutritionist) to dig into idea that change can happen at any time and does not need to a big commitment to a totally new way of life. This is especially true for those who are on a fertility journey and can often feel the pressure to be perfect.

We discuss the challenges of January and February, and the importance of taking care of your mental health and well-being during these months.

We discuss

  • You don't need a new you; embrace who you are.
  • January can be a tough month; be gentle with yourself.
  • Setting resolutions in January can create unnecessary pressure.
  • Small, manageable changes are more sustainable than drastic ones.
  • Focus on positive changes rather than deprivation.
  • Accountability can help in achieving your goals.
  • Lean into the slower pace of winter months.
  • You can make changes at any time, not just New Year.
  •

Each session also offers a live Q & A so you have time to speak to our team of experts.Ā We start the 8th Oct and you can register here.

Katy and I are talking all about your luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, and why it's so important for health and fertility. (I know we say that all the time!)

But the luteal phase is when implantation occurs and we need good levels of progesterone to support this.

Problems in the luteal phase are common. We discuss what they are and why they might be happening.

Takeaways

  • The luteal phase is the second part of the menstrual cycle, crucial for fertility.
  • Progesterone is the dominant hormone in the luteal phase, essential for early pregnancy.
  • A luteal phase shorter than 12 days can hinder implantation and fertility.
  • Spotting before a period may indicate luteal phase issues.
  • PMS symptoms can signal hormonal imbalances, particularly with progesterone.
  • Basal body temperature (BBT) charts can help identify luteal phase problems.
  • Thyroid health is vital for maintaining a healthy menstrual cycle.
  • High stress levels can negatively impact progesterone production.
  • Cycle monitoring offers a comprehensive view of menstrual health.
  • Progesterone supplementation can be beneficial for women with luteal phase defects.

Each session also offers a live Q & A so you have time to speak to our team of experts.Ā We start the 8th Oct and you can register here.šŸ’›

Katy and I are discussing all the basic but so often overlooked fertility information to help you understand how your fertility works and improve your chances of conception.

In today's episode we discuss the importance of fertility education and the basics of getting pregnant. We highlight the lack of comprehensive sex education in schools and the need for more open conversations about fertility. We also address the misconception that getting pregnant is easy and quick, and remind listeners that it can take time and patience.

Takeaways:

  • Comprehensive sex education in schools often lacks important information about fertility and reproductive health.
  • Understanding your menstrual cycle and tracking cervical mucus can help identify the most fertile days for conception.
  • Getting pregnant can take time and patience, and it is important to remember that it is not always as easy as it is portrayed.
  • There is a need to normalize conversations about fertility and reproductive health to reduce stigma and provide support to those trying to conceive.

Recurrent Miscarriage, low AMH and IVF- Charlotte shares her story17 Jul 202401:00:05

This is our final episode for this Series, we will be back in September!

TRIGGER WARNING: in this episode we discuss miscarriage, IVF failure and pregnancy.

We're ending with a positive story, with Charlotte, a lovely patient I have had the pleasure of working with over the last few years.

Charlotte shares her journey of trying to conceive and experiencing multiple miscarriages. She shares her emotional toll and the frustration of waiting for appointments and test results and ultimately having to pay for rounds of IVF. I can happily report that Charlotte had her baby boy about a week after recording this episode and both are doing well šŸ’›

Takeaways

  • Trying to conceive can be a challenging and emotional journey, especially when experiencing multiple miscarriages.
  • The process of waiting for appointments and test results can be frustrating and isolating.

  • Support from friends, family, and online communities can be crucial in navigating the emotional and physical challenges of fertility struggles.
  • It's important to find healthcare providers who are honest, supportive, and provide clear communication throughout the process. Early testing and education about fertility can provide valuable information and help make informed decisions.
  • Finding a supportive community and setting boundaries with others can be crucial during the fertility journey.
  • Self-care and taking time for oneself are important for emotional well-being.
  • The IVF process can be emotionally and financially challenging, but success is possible.
