In any relationship where we are growing and evolving, we have to expect that our needs and desires are going to change as we change. But in relationships, it can be challenging to hear that our partner wants or needs more from us. On one hand we might say we want to grow together. But then, when our partner grows and has new needs and desires, can we step forward to meet them? There is perhaps nothing that has changed more for us as we have grown together through the evolution of our power exchange relationship than our ability to meet each other’s desires for more with openness and acceptance. And in this episode of Dom Sub Devotion, we discuss how we’ve learned to give each other the space inside of our relationship to evolve without feeling threatened by that desire to grow. And this has been how we’ve found our way to a much deeper place of presence in each of our experience of life. Every relationship is going to have conflict and disagreement at times. Can love and Dom/sub dynamics coexist? In this conversation, we share how power exchange dynamics have brought the connection of love and devotion out in our marriage, and transformed it into a loving, passionate connection that only continues to grow with time. This seems like such an oddity, when you look at D/s from the outside world. It all seems like it’s cold, casual, and disconnected. And I could never "do" my way to submission. I had to STOP doing so much, and just allow myself to BE. Adding more to my plate only kept me in the same energy that had caused me to be so deep in my hyper-masculine energy. But when I slowed down my pace and let go of everything that didn't suit me, I got to experience a whole new life through my surrender to Sir. Episode 7 - How People Pleasing Poisons submission
Submission is an active state. It is a choice to surrender certain parts of life to the authority of a Dominant partner who the submissive trusts to take charge and lead in those areas. People pleasing is silent by nature. It is the attempt to secure love or affection by behaving in ways that the pleaser believes (mostly subconsciously) will compel their partner to treat them the way they want to be treated. Often, it shows up by going along with whatever the other person wants while ignoring one’s own needs completely. A healthy Dominant/submissive dynamic says all of this out loud. Both parties agree that the Dominant is in charge, the submissive will obey. People pleasing says it covertly. The pleaser wants her Dominant to treat her a certain way, so she begins to act in ways that she believes will get her treated that way. In our dynamic, I take control, lead, and make decisions. All things I like. It allows Dawn to relax, be feminine, and experience the emotional freedom of not being the one in control. All things she likes. We have equal power to pursue the relationship we want to have. I have the authority to make those desires into reality. In this episode, we dive into people pleasing, authenticity, and authentic expression in a way that any submissive, or any Dominant who wants to treat a submissive with love and respect, needs to hear. In this episode, we discuss what it took for Andrew to transition out of his old role as husband after 8 years of vanilla marriage into this new role as Dominant, and how his growth impacted Dawn in her submission.
