Animals and therapy are two of Jess's passions, and she has brought them together in many ways, such as getting certified in animal assisted therapy, by doing equine psychotherapy work, training her reactive dog to become a therapy dog, and now as a coach who supports dog owners struggling with the human side of their training journey. Dio is a reactive boy who has worked hard to earn his CGC and pass the therapy dog evaluations - but made it clear that therapy work wasn't a fit for him, so now he's a happy house dog, loving life and hanging out with his cat all day. | Working Through Our Dogs’ Aggression, Learning From Mistakes and Embracing the Bad Dog Mom Life | 23 Feb 2023 | 01:12:56
Jessie @story_of_atlas is our first ever guest from the UK! Having always dreamed of having a dog, Jessie and her husband Sean's experience with their vizsla, Atlas, was not at all what they imaged. After setting up an Instagram to share their cute puppy journey, Jessie realised their path was going to be a lot more challenging, when at 10 months, both she and her husband had been hospitalised by Atlas' biting. Dealing with human aggression was incredibly challenging and at points utterly heartbreaking, but finding the right trainer changed everything. Atlas is now thriving and their bond is stronger than ever. Wanting to help others, Jessie set up @honesthounds, a private community connecting owners, no matter their backgrounds, and promoting kindness and understanding so no matter where you are in the world you can have a safe space to share the good and the bad of life with your dog. | All About Our Pet Communication Session With an Animal Intuitive | 29 Jun 2023 | 01:20:48
I had the pleasure of talking to Shannon from @loveandfeathersandshells! Shannon Cutts' unique path to animal communication has given her the knowledge and skill to gently and compassionately hold space for you and your pet as you build your relationship. Animal communication is about more than just learning to tune in to receive and translate interspecies messages. It is also about connecting with you, the animal’s human. Most importantly, animal communication is about supporting you and your pet to feel closer and more connected at every stage of life, including after they have passed into spirit. And sometimes that gets complicated. Stuff can come up. Could your interspecies family use a pep talk, a mediator, a translator, an objective new voice, a fresh perspective, an unconditionally loving mentor? Shannon Cutts is happy to help. Her pets are Flash Gordon, an 8 year old standard wirehaired dachshund; Petal, a 3 month old cockatiel; Malti, a 9 year old redfoot tortoise; and Io, a 1.5 year old 3-toed box turtle. | The Way Dogs Humble Us | 28 Apr 2022 | 01:10:56
This week we are talking to Tiffany from @loons.and.roogs! The crew behind the account Loons.and.Roogs is made up of Luna, a 5-year-old Aussie mix, Ruger, a 5-month-old Bernese/Pyrenees mix, and Tiffany. Luna was Tiffany's first dog, who she got back in college. And like so many college kids, she knew nothing about how to properly raise and care for a dog. Because of this, Luna developed severe fear-based reactivity towards dogs, kids, and some adults. Tiffany didn't understand what reactivity was, so this went unaddressed for years, and as you can imagine, got worse and worse. Thanks to the Dog Instagram community, Tiffany learned about reactivity and balanced training and embarked on the year and a half long journey working through Luna's fears. So much so, that Tiffany and her partner Austin recently added a second dog to their family, Ruger. Ruger and Luna were best friends at first sight. His goofy and calm demeanor has helped Luna accept him, and finally give her a companion that Tiffany always wanted to give her. They live in Colorado and spend as much time as they can in the mountains exploring.
