After a really fun weekend in Alpena, Michigan diving the shipwrecks of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Rich spends some time talking about how new boat captains need to be broken in a bit when it comes to people who view diving as a goal rather than people (like us) who view diving as a lifestyle and a recreation.

Rich Talks about the month of diving in July 2024 and diving in Munising Michigan and Isle Royale National Park. He also talks about having a starlink Mini on the Isle Royale trip which was a game changer for him. #starlink Rich is also pretty adamant about doing discover scuba experiences as a resort course. This is something new for the quarry.

Rich Synowiec, host of the scuba diving podcast, discusses his efforts to improve the podcast by incorporating more video and visual elements. He acknowledges that other influencers in different industries have had more success with social media, but he is determined to make his podcast stand out. He also expresses interest in becoming a PADI Ambassador Diver and shares his thoughts on the dive industry's outdated business model. Additionally, he mentions teaching a new distinctive specialty course offered by PADI called the Delayed Surface Marker Buoy program. In this episode Rich talks about his forays into social media and what he is finding related to scuba diving and social media. Season 9 Episode 6 Rich does a podcast from his car and talks about the difference a day makes as far as ice conditions. The dive he did was awesome and he chats about that and what is planned for the next coming week.

Season 9 Episode 4 Rich is back from Rebreather training in North Carolina with some stories to tell about the diving there. Having never dived a Granite Quarry before this trip he has a lot of insights and a story to tell about the experience. Th Fantasy Lake Scuba Park was a great quarry by the two days of the course turned out to be incredible. Mystery Lake Scuba Park was an amazing surprise with some underwater sites that were epic!

Season 9 Episode 3 Rich is in North Carolina Teaching a Tec40 CCR course. He has been having a great time at the Fantasy Lake Scuba Park outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. In this short podcast, Rich talks from his truck on the way to the dive site to keep you updated on what has been happening in diving.

Season 9 Episode 2 Rich talks about the diving he has been doing, clarifies a misconception from the last podcast and talks about being a beta tester for the New CCR software available with the Garmin Descent MK1 dive smart watch.

Season 9, Episode 1 Rich start the year off talking about diving on New Years Day. It was a mild day with fantastic visibility. Rich also talks about a question that was emailed to him getting to the heart of why you choose an instructor/ dive center. Rich gets into the Aquaman movie as well giving his opinion of the effects and the fact that it is NOT the BBC.

Season 8 Episode 52 Rich does his last episode of 2018 from the Island on Bonaire. He is on holiday teaching his wife, Jill, her PADI Tec40 CCR course and a friend of his is also taking the PADI Tec Sidemount Instructor Course. Rich talks about night diving with a Bioluminescent light show and diving with his kids.

Season 8 Episode 51 Rich Talks about getting back into river diving for the first time since the summer. He also talks about sidemount and getting back into that to make back mounted diving with stages more streamlined. Rich chats about how his Zeagle Rep meeting and making custom BCDs. Finally Rich is packing for Bonaire and discusses the trials and tribulations of that ordeal.

Season 8 Episode 50 Rich went diving at White Star to some incredible visibility! He talks about the sale at his store and offers some of the closeouts to you.  Rich also talks about the Garmin Virb Edit software that came with his Virb Ultra 30.  Finally Rich looks towards 2019 and Season 9 of this podcast looking for ideas and suggestions for changes.

Season 8 Episode 49 Rich has been busy working in his shop on a sale this weekend and he talks about that a bit. He also embarked on a new journey with his wife taking Rebreather lessons from him on the Hollis Prism 2 Rebreather.  His kids go diving with him in new to them equipment.

Rich switches gear with a return to a non-video podcast. He goes back the thing he knows best with an audio podcast. In this podcast, Rich talks about the past couple of weeks teaching the PADI Tec60CCR course at Lake Wazee and he also talks about watching people struggle with getting back into scuba diving after taking some time off. Rich chats about the changes to this podcast as well. He wants to make the podcast more regular doing his best to return to a once a week format. Video has its place and there will be videos that will be shared but in the struggle to get a regular podcast started back up video just takes too much time at this point.

Season 8 Episode 48 Rich chats more about DEMA telling a story about the Prism 2 Seminar he attended and the speeches by the cave rescuers from the Thai Soccer Team incident.  He also spends time talking about the new products that he saw at DEMA that were representative of super cool stuff coming in technology. RIch talks about his meetings this week with Garmin and Atomic.  He also spent time talking about his awesome weekend of CCR diving.

Season 8 Episode 47 Rich is back from DEMA in part one of what will become a two part story about the trip to Las Vegas.  Rich chats about new products, about the PADI CD Update and the directions that the industry is taking.  Rich also talks about a trip out to Lake Mead to check out the Echo Bay resort to find it high and dry at the top of a mountain now.

Season 8 Episode 46 Rich takes some time out of his amazingly busy schedule at DEMA the largest industry-only scuba event of the season!  This is more of a teaser than anything else as Rich hints at some incredible stuff coming in 2019!

Season 8 Episode 45 For the sake of saving time Rich does his podcast about recent dives in Fortune Pond for the Tec 50 class. He also talks about his dives in the quarry with rebreather divers.

Season 8 Episode 43 Rich talks about his upcoming Prism 2 course. He also talks about his upcoming schedule of trips for 2019.  He discusses an article about Oldest intact shipwreck recently found in the Black Sea.  This 2400 year old amazing find is discussed with his love of shipwrecks.  River diving season just around the corner and Rich talks about the upcoming dives he has planned.

Season 8 Episode 42 Rich is fired up about some stuff people posted hammering on Local dive shops.   He also talks about diving this week, catching up and making cool things happen.  He also talks about the end of his longest running IDC.

Season 8 Episode 41 Rich talks about Underwater Pumpkin Carving. Gives a shout out to an old mentor long gone.  Talks about his week of diving with public safety divers and their courses and the task of getting his shops in order. Rich also talks about a night dive he did with some good customers and friends.

Season 8 Episode 39 Rich chats about the awesomeness that was the missile silo dive last weekend, a busy week diving and the fun he has with his Job. Rich also chats about the fun he has had in diving this week and the struggles of running a business that is super fun in the bargain.

Season 8 Episode 38 Rich had a busy week teaching and entertaining and making things happen for his shop.  He talks about Internet trolls in relation to an experience he had this week.  Rich also talks about how a different IDC can take a good instructor and make them a Great Instructor.

Season 8, Episode 37 Rich starts this podcast on his birthday and in the middle of it gets interrupted by house guests arriving early.  Finishing it the next day, Rich talks more about how people interpret standards in a way that may be detrimental to the learning of the skills.  He also talks about his upcoming classes and the stuff that he is doing this next week! Season 8 Episode 36 Rich announces the winner of the Fat Diver Challenge! He also talks about the weekend of diving, planning for 2019 and more about diving!

Season 8 Episode 35 Rich talks about the end of this round of the Fat Diver Challenge.  It seems that sharks don't kill divers, cheeseburgers do, so we need to start taking better care of ourselves.    Rich also talks about how we should continue taking better care of ourselves as we journey through our every day lives.   At the request of a listener, Rich talks about gas planning and how we can all do a better job of realizing what gas consumption we are using.

Season 8 Episode 34 Rich went for a five day expedition to the upper/lower Penninsula of Michigan to technical dive on the shipwrecks of Presque Isle and then to continue on to Dive the shipwrecks of Alpena.  Boat problems and weather issues changed some things moving one of the charters to the Straits of Mackinac.  Rich tells the story of awesome wreck diving and new friends found on the trip!

Season 8, Episode 31 Rich is back from Isle Royale and today marks the start of the Fat Diver Challenge.  Rich talks about the challenge and how to participate as well as the new boat in Isle Royale,  he chats about his upcoming schedule of events and he shares an article about a Wallet lost 28 years ago reunited with its owner.

Season 8, Episode 30 Rich is off the grid on a liveaboard in one of the most remote places on the Great Lakes, shipwreck diving and enjoying life.  This podcast was recorded sitting at a picnic table in Windigo Harbor on the Western end of the Island.

Season 8 Episode 29 Rich spent last weekend at White Star Quarry participating in the Women's Dive Day Fundraiser benefiting the Women Divers Hall of Fame Scholarship fund!  He talked a lot about packing for Isle Royale and getting the dive shop ready and then launched into a revisit of the Normalisation of Deviance where he explains how it becomes a problem to divers.

Rich talks about the Titan disaster at Titanic then moves on to talk about a trip to Key West, including the Hemmingway house and Pride Week. He also talks about a couple of dives that needed to be rescheduled and just the basics of going with the flow and being flexible in a changing world.

Season 8 Episode 28 Back from Munising, Rich talks about a busy week of diving, not diving, prepping and training new staff.  He also chats about the upcoming fundraiser for Women's Dive Day!

Season 8 Episode 27 Rich spends some time talking about his busy weekend and the fun he had diving with children on the Fourth of July.  Rich also talks about watching the fireworks from the deck of a 100+ year old Great Lakes Freighter with his family.  Rich spends some time talking about a weight loss motivator in contest that gets you a few new t shirts.   Rich also talks about supporting the store and the instructor that you are planning on taking your training from and travelling with.

Season 8 Episode 26 Rich talks about the diving he did this weekend on a "Unicorn"  The wrecks of the McPhail and the Curran are two ferries that sank together in Lake Huron near the Thumb of Michigan.  Rich also talks about the choices we have to make when going diving in rough weather.   Rich had a visit from some PADI bigwigs this week and he chats about that as well.

Season 8 Episode 25 Rich talks about his past week in Pensacola Florida diving the wreck of the  Aircraft Carrier Oriskany and the Vortex Springs as he worked to become a PADI TEC60CCR Instructor on the Hollis Prism2.

Season 8 Episode 24 Rich has crappy time management skills this week so he does this podcast from his truck heading southbound to his PADI Tec60 CCR Instructor course.

Season 8 Episode 23 Rich talks about the not so glamorous side of business ownership, when the process becomes more like "a job."  Rich also talks about the changes that happen and go alone with breaking in new captains with new charter boats.  Rich also talks about things to come and some of the upcoming trips he now has openings for.

Season 8 Episode 22 Rich talks about his trip to Meg Ledge and the surrounding area in North Carolina, talks about the surprise trip to the mountains afterwards and the week he has had. Rich finishes up with a comparison of the new Teric Dive computer by Shearwater Research and the Garmin Descent Mk1 that he has been wearing for two months or so.

Season 8 Episode 21 Rich records on the road and talks a little about the trip but spends most of the time with a presentation that he recorded a presentation about river diving to the customers of Patriot Dive Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Season 8 Episode 20  Rich spent the early morning on the podcast talking about his week of PADI Instructor Development, The PADI Rescue Diver Course,  and his Prism2 Rebreather course this weekend.   An informative, informal podcast talking about the busy week he had.

Season 8 Episode 19 Rich is back from Utila, Honduras with tales of an amazing place. Fantastic coral, great people, amazing experience.  Complete with Whale Sharks, Spinner Dolphins and some pretty amazing coral.

In this episode Rich talks about the realities of running a dive shop post-covid. Also he shares pictures of his past two technical dive courses from the month of May and some spectacular visibility that can be found in the cooler months of diving. Rich also chats about his journey with the 360 video camera. Wrapping up, Rich shares some amazing photos of visibility found at White Star Quarry in May.

Season 8 Episode 18 Rich did a brief recording on the Island of Utila that describes a little about the internet, first impressions of the island and some other things.  He was not well when the recording was made and it almost was not published.  Island internet was very poor so uploading it down there would not have been possible.  Look to Episode 19 for a more detailed program.

Season 8 Episode 17 Rich talks about the past week teaching the tec programs in a 6 day format along with the awesomeness that came from collaborating with another dive shop owner/course director on how to make his teaching style better and improvements that he can make to his shop.  RIch also talked about getting White star up and running for the new season and the trials and tribulations for that.  He also talks about his upcoming trip to Utila.

Season 8 Episode 16 Rich just got back from the Cooper River Trip and reviews a book he listened to on the way down.  The Death of Expertise by Tom Nichols had a lot of information about the challenges experts have with people who do not do their own research. Rich talks about how that relates to diving and what he is trying to do in his own life. He also talks about the Cooper River Dives and laments on how there are so many of his peers retiring and not leaving any aspect of their business for future Generations.
