Carol (2015): CATE BLANCHETT & ROONEY MARA {Part 3}11 janv. 202401:53:30

In this episode, Angie and Steffi’s “Carol” discussion comes to an end. They discuss “Carol” being overlooked by the Oscars, their lackluster marketing campaign, gay shaking, and why the movie will forever be a favorite for people with taste - including you, Harold. This is part 2 of 2 of our era breakdown episodes, and the final part of our “Carol” episodes.

Continuing where we left off with tea - we get into some MAJOR TEA in this episode, including: Cate Blanchett’s controversial Variety interview, Harvey Weinstein, Rooney Mara & category fraud, and JUSTICE FOR CAROL (2015). We also hyper analyze “Carol”’s marketing material including that exquisite teaser trailer, the emotional first trailer…and that really sketchy second trailer. Plus, “Harold, they’re lesbians”.

LOGLINE: Carol is a 2015 romantic period drama film directed by Todd Haynes. The screenplay by Phyllis Nagy is based on the 1952 romance novel The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith (republished as Carol in 1990). The film stars Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson, Jake Lacy, and Kyle Chandler. Set in New York City during the early 1950s, Carol tells the story of a forbidden affair between an aspiring female photographer and an older woman going through a difficult divorce.

Carol (2015): CATE BLANCHETT & ROONEY MARA {Part 2}05 janv. 202401:48:39

In this episode, Angie and Steffi talk all about the “Carol” era in Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara’s career. This is part 1 of 2 of our era breakdown episodes, and part 2 of 3 of our “Carol” episodes.

We discuss what was going on at their careers during this time and how the roles of Carol & Therese ultimately contribute to their onscreen personas. We then get into Patricia Highsmith and tackle two big, controversial questions concerning “Carol”: 1) Is it okay for straight actresses to play lesbians onscreen? 2) Is Carol a predatory lesbian?

Carol (2015): CATE BLANCHETT & ROONEY MARA {Part 1}21 déc. 202301:58:23

For our final Holiday Diva Movie of the season, everything comes full circle. This week, Angie and Steffi discuss “Carol” (2015, directed by Todd Haynes), starring our divas of the week: Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara.

Because there is so much to talk about when it comes to the masterpiece that is “Carol”, we have decided to divide our discussion into two parts. In part one, we review the movie via various scene discussions. We then end the episode sharing what we think Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara’s Oscar Clips should be and giving our Letterboxd rating.

During our review, we ask the classic Carol question: Did Carol leave the gloves on purpose? We also discuss if Carol clocked Therese immediately, repression vs. not knowing one’s sexuality, the film’s mise en scène, the emotionally stirring score, and the genius of Todd Haynes’ cinema. And Cate Blanchett’s back.

In this episode, Angie and Steffi are continuing on their holiday diva movie journey with the modern day Christmas romcom classic “The Holiday” (2006) featuring our divas of the week: Kate Winslet & Cameron Diaz.

For this episode, we combined what would normally be two parts of an episode into one episode because that’s what we used to do when covering movies. However, this will probably change in future episodes. But the first part of this episode is reviewing the movie via various scene discussions, while the second part of this episode is us talking about “The Holiday” era in Kate Winslet & Cameron Diaz’s careers respectively.

During our review, we discuss meet cutes, the Santa Ana winds, why Arthur is the best character, Angie’s love for Miles/ Jack Black, Steffi’s love for Graham/ Jude Law and our shared love for that iconic 3 way phone call scene.

Then, during our era breakdown, we talk about how “The Holiday” plays up to or against Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet’s on screen personas, respectively. In this episode, Angie and Steffi are going back to the movies in honor of the holiday season. To kick off our Diva Holiday Movies month, we are discussing the VH1 TV movie classic “A Diva’s Christmas Carol (2000) starring our diva of the week: Vanessa Williams. We review the movie and also talk about the “A Diva’s Christmas Carol” era in Vanessa Williams’ career.

For this episode, we combined what would normally be two parts of an episode into one episode because that’s what we used to do when covering movies. However, this will probably change in future episodes. But the first part of this episode is reviewing the movie via various scene discussions, while the second part of this episode is us talking about this project in relation to Vanessa Williams’ career.

During our review, we discuss all the funny moments including Ebony’s lack of concert during a literal earthquake. We then stan faux fictional girl group Desire and their bops! Plus, a discussion on the meta-ness quality of this Vh1 classic and our fictional diva bracket.

We also discuss the lack of music programming today and how that came to be. Also, we play a fun game called “IMDB’s Best Four Known For” that we will be doing in all of our movie episodes. ‘Tis the season!

For this episode, we continue breaking down Whitney Houston’s “My Love is Your Love” era. In part 3 of our Whitney Houston “My Love is Your Love” (1998) journey, Angie and Steffi break down the era. We discuss Whitney’s rise as a movie star leading up to the album, her chaotic relationship/ marriage to Bobby Brown, Robyn Crawford’s departure, the iconic Dolce & Gabbana looks, and the narratives that Team Whitney & Arista leaned on during the promotion of the album.

This is the first part of our era breakdown. We will wrap our era and overall “My Love is Your Love” discussion in part 4.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we breakdown the behemoth era that was Whitney Houston’s “My Love is Your Love.” We get into Whitney Houston’s film career and share our favorite Whitney Houston film. We also talk about Whitney’s need to pivot during this era for multiple reasons: evolution of music, 8 year solo studio gap, and Bobby Brown. Additionally, we share our thoughts on Robyn Crawford’s role in Whitney Houston’s life/ career and the money issues that started to become prevalent during this time. Plus, a fun discussion on Whitney’s iconic Dolce & Gabbana looks and marketing to the MTV generation of the late 90s.

"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" (1998): LAURYN HILL - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 3}26 oct. 202301:54:52

In part 3 of our Lauryn Hill “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (1998) saga, Angie and Steffi break down the era. We discuss tension within The Fugees in the leadup to Lauryn Hill going solo, Robert Glasper’s (one-sided?) feud, the theme-specific marketing & rollout of the era, and how Lauryn bowed out of music when she was on top - much to the chagrin of the industry & the public. Plus, a discussion on Lauryn Hill’s post-Miseducation years and her “mis” reputation as a performer.

We also briefly discuss our thoughts on Michelle Williams’ voice performance for Britney Spears’ memoir. “OH YEA. FO SHIZ. FO SHIZ. GINUWINE. WAT’S UP HOMIE?”.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we deep dive into Lauryn Hill’s very busy “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” era. We talk about how Lauryn Hill may have been underestimated artistically as the only female in The Fugees & as a new mother in the leadup to the album. Additionally, we discuss claims of Lauryn Hill being difficult to work with, her notorious reputation as a live performer today and how a young 23 year old Lauryn Hill made Grammy history back in 1999.

Again, this is part 3 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to parts 1 & 2 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Lauryn Hill  “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” journey.

Album Info: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the only solo studio album by American singer and rapper Lauryn Hill. It was released on August 25, 1998, by Ruffhouse Records and Columbia Records. "Back to Black" (2006): AMY WINEHOUSE - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}05 oct. 202301:54:18

In our part 2 episode of Amy Winehouses’s “Back to Black” (2006), Angie and Steffi break down the era. We discuss Amy Winehouse’s toxic relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil and how it helped inspire the album. We also discuss Amy’s other personal struggles from this era including her addiction, eating disorder, the pervasive 2000s media, and how this all ultimately led to her untimely death.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we detail Amy’s various personal struggles and how the pervasive 2000s media pushed down on her & other young women at the time. We also discuss Amy Winehouse’s musical legacy and how she paved the way for other up & coming British acts of the time - including of course, Adele.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Amy Winehouse “Back to Black” journey. RIP Amy.

Album Info: Back to Black is the second and final studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 27 October 2006 by Island Records. "Dreaming of You" (1995): SELENA - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}31 août 202301:46:58

In our part 2 episode of Selena’s “Dreaming of You” (1995), Angie and Steffi break down the era. We discuss Selena’s journey to what would’ve been major crossover success, her murder, the legacy she paved for other Latin crossover acts and how the Estate has managed the Selena brand.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we discuss the obstacles Selena faced to make her first English album, crossing over as a Mexican-American artist, fan clubs in the 90s, her impact on Latin music artists today, and of course, her death.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Selena “Dreaming of You” journey. RIP Selena.

Album Info: Dreaming of You is the fifth and final studio album by American singer Selena. Released posthumously on July 18, 1995, by EMI Latin and EMI Records, it was an immediate commercial and critical success, debuting atop the United States Billboard 200—the first predominately Spanish-language album to do so. It sold 175,000 copies on its first day of release in the U.S.—a then-record for a female vocalist. With first week sales of 331,000 units, it became the second-highest first-week sales for a female musician since Nielsen Soundscan began monitoring album sales in 1991. Billboard magazine declared it a "historic" event, while Time said the recording elevated Selena's music to a wider audience. It won Album of the Year at the 1996 Tejano Music Awards and Female Pop Album of the Year at the 3rd annual Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Diva 101: ARETHA FRANKLIN - Performances, Pop Culture Moments & Songs You NEED to Know {Part 2}19 juil. 202301:10:05

Continuing with our Diva 101 on Aretha Franklin, Angie and Steffi share their favorite Aretha Franklin live performances and pop culture moments. We also share Aretha Franklin songs you MUST know, our personal faves, and underrated gems in her catalog.

Our Diva 101 episodes are a general overview of a classic diva’s career and a very basic introduction to the diva. These OG divas helped define how we think of the term “diva”. They are the blueprints. The architects. And without them, a lot of the divas that we talk about would cease to exist. (Le gasp!) The goal of Diva 101s is to introduce a diva and give a general overview of who they are: their influences, their career, who they would eventually go on to influence, and most importantly, why they matter in the Diva Pantheon.

This is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you go back and listen to part 1 where we discuss Aretha’s career timeline and make diva connections to the past & present divas.

Diva Info: Aretha Louise Franklin was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. Referred to as the "Queen of Soul", Rolling Stone twice named her as the greatest singer, and the ninth-greatest artist of all time. With global sales of over 75 million records, Franklin is one of the world's best-selling music artists.

Diva 101: ARETHA FRANKLIN - The Influences, Career Timeline, & Diva Connections {Part 1}05 juil. 202301:21:11

Welcome to our first ever Diva 101 episode - a recurring series where we give an introduction to divas that we all need to know. And to kick things off, we’re talking the Queen of Soul: Ms. Aretha Franklin. In this part 1 episode, Angie and Steffi go through the timeline of Aretha’s illustrious career, and discuss divas/divos that influenced her and divas that she would later influence.

Our Diva 101 episodes are a general overview of a classic diva’s career and a very basic introduction to the diva. These OG divas helped define how we think of the term “diva”. "Ray of Light" (1998): MADONNA - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}28 juin 202301:34:32

In our part 2 episode of Madonna’s “Ray of Light” (1998) celebration, Angie and Steffi break down the era. We discuss the “material girl to spiritual girl” narrative, motherhood, and why this may arguably be our favorite Madonna era.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we discuss how Madonna was in her “spiritual girl/finding myself” era, her infamous VMA performance, cultural appropriation and how “Ray of Light” ultimately solidified Madonna’s legitimacy as an artist.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Madonna “Ray of Light” journey!

Album Info: Ray of Light is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released in early 1998 by Maverick Records. A major stylistic and aesthetical departure from her previous work, Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light is an electronica and techno-pop record which incorporates multiple genres, including ambient, trip hop, art pop, psychedelic music and Middle Eastern music, while also seeing Madonna singing with greater breadth and a fuller tone. Mystical themes are also strongly present in both the music and lyrics, as a result of Madonna embracing Kabbalah, her study of Hinduism and Buddhism, and her daily practice of Ashtanga yoga.

In this episode, Angie and Steffi celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Madonna’s “Ray of Light” album.

Make sure you tune in next week for part 2 when we talk about Madonna’s Ray of Light era.

Diva Headlines #4: RIP Tina Turner, Unpopular Beyoncé Renaissance Tour Opinions, the Whitney Houston Biopic...and Kylie Minogue's PADAM PADAM14 juin 202301:28:52

Padam? Padam.

In this episode, Angie & Steffi do another round of Diva Headlines and get into what’s been happening in the DCU - the Diva Cinematic Universe.

We discuss the passing of legendary performer Tina Turner and the complicated legacy of the iconic film “What’s Love Got to Do With It”. Then, by popular demand, we continue our discussion on some of the touring divas - namely Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour and Janet Jackson’s Together Again Tour. And plot twist: we have an unpopular Renaissance Tour opinion.

Because this movie came out during our hiatus, we DRAGGG the Whitney Houston biopic and breakdown why we hated it. Spoiler Alert: It rhymes with Rat Rhouston. Angie also shares her thoughts on the constant public scrutiny that Chloe x Halle face & the strange revisionist history, and she also gives a review on TLC’s newest Lifetime documentary.

And also - we discuss the Meme Song of the Summer: Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam”.

Are you a citizen of Padam Padam?

Rihanna's Half Time Show & Our Top 5 Super Bowl Halftime Shows...OF ALL TIME23 févr. 202301:25:10

In this episode, Angie & Steffi discuss their thoughts on Rihanna’s much anticipated Super Bowl halftime show performance. Was it underwhelming? Overwhelming? Or just whelming? Angie also takes this moment to gloat that she accurately predicted Rihanna’s closer (yet again!). Plus, we share what Diva Dailies listeners thought of Rihanna’s performance as well.

We then share our personal TOP 5 Favorite Halftime Show performances OF ALL TIME. And discuss why we think these performances stand above from the rest. From Beyoncé to Michael, and everyone else in between - did your favorite performance make the Diva Dailies Top 5?

There’s also a SURPRISING personal connection that Angie has to one of the Super Bowl performances. Steffi was stunned into silence, which is a feat.

Plus, we end the show answering some tangential Super Bowl Halftime Show related questions like: Which performances were our honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the Top 5? What is the worst halftime performance? And…who do we think will eventually grace the halftime show stage?

Holiday Special 2022: Naughty or Nice - Season 2 Divas28 déc. 202201:26:31

Happy Holidays, everyone!!

Apologies for this episode coming out after Christmas, but we thought to round out Season 2 of Diva Dailies, we’d play a little holiday game on the pod. Perhaps we can make this a holiday tradition?

In the final episode of Season 2, Angie and Steffi sort our Season 2 divas on the Naughty or Nice List. Then, we also reflect on what hypothetical gift we would give to the diva. It’s a festive time and a great review of all the divas we’ve covered this season.

Thank you to everyone who's supported the pod this year. Whether you sent in a voice message, emailed, or even just gave any episode a listen, we really do appreciate all the support. Also just wanted to give a special congrats to Angie for finishing her first official season as a full time host. Good job, Angie. We can't wait to come back for Season 3 because there's already so much to talk about. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday break in 2022, and can't wait to hear from you all in 2023!

"Spiceworld" (1997): SPICE GIRLS - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 3}01 déc. 202201:36:50

Finally finishing up our Spice Girls, “Spiceworld” journey. Sorry for the delay once again, but we hope you guys enjoy this one. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the rest of the Spiceworld era.

To begin the episode, we read through some of our listener feedback. Again, thanks so much for sending in your thoughts! We also go through some quick Diva Headlines - Spice Girls reunion at Geri’s 50th birthday part (Mel B, where you at???) and the trailers for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we discuss the unique way that the Spice Girls were marketed and all of the endorsement/brand deals that they did. Shoutout to Pepsi! Of course, we can’t talk about “Spiceworld” without briefly discussing the cinematic classic “Spice World”. We then discuss our favorite music videos, live performances and go through all the Spice-y receipts. And finally, we bring the Spice Bus home by ending on a very important question: Did Geri cement the Spice Girls’ pop culture legacy by leaving the way that she did?

Album Info: Spiceworld is the second studio album by English girl group the Spice Girls, released on 1 November 1997 by Virgin Records. Its music incorporates dance-pop music and production. The album became a commercial success worldwide, lengthening the so-called "Spicemania" of the time. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, with first-week sales of 190,000 copies and shipped 1.4 million copies in two weeks. The album also reached number one in 13 countries, while peaking inside the top three in Australia, Canada, France, Switzerland and the United States. Spiceworld has sold over 14 million copies worldwide, making it one of the world's best-selling albums by a girl group.

Apologies for the delay, but we are back for PART 2 of 3 (yep, it’s our first 3 parter) of our Spice Girls “Spiceworld” journey. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the era!

To begin the episode, we read through some of our listener feedback. Again, thanks so much for sending in your thoughts!

For this episode, we talk about Spicemania and go through ALL the tea. Including: the Spice Girls being overworked, media/general public backlash, the firing of their manager Simon Fuller, Geri leaving, the aftermath of Geri leaving, and mental health/eating disorders. We also discuss the many theories as to why Geri TRULY left the Spice Girls (duh, duh, DUHHHHH). Grab your tea and hold onto your knickers, girls. This episode is SPICE-Y.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track. And stay tuned for the conclusion of our Spice Girls’ Spiceworld discussion in part 3.

"The Velvet Rope" (1997): JANET JACKSON - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}20 oct. 202201:41:24

We are back for PART 2 of our Janet Jackson “The Velvet Rope” journey. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the era!

This week, Angie is back for our intro and we catch up on our Oscar & Razzie Moment of the Week. We also read an updated review from THE Nicole Scherzinger (Nicole, this is between me, and you, and you) and discuss our thoughts on Janet’s - if we can call it that - The Velvet Rope 25 campaign.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we talk about the relationship between Janet & René Elizondo Jr. and how that ultimately fell apart during The Velvet Rope era. We also discuss mental health & the way 90s media sensationalized depression, queer identity, piercings, tattoos, Janet’s iconic RED hair, and the undeniable impact of The Velvet Rope on today’s R&B music scene. The Janet propaganda continues. Sign up for the cause today.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Janet Jackson “The Velvet Rope” journey!

Album Info: The Velvet Rope is the sixth studio album by American singer Janet Jackson. The album was released on October 7, 1997, through Virgin Records. Prior to its release, she renegotiated her contract with Virgin for US$80 million, the largest recording contract in history at that time. Upon experiencing an emotional breakdown, Jackson began facing a long-term case of depression. She in turn developed her new record as a concept album, using introspection as its theme. Its title is a metaphor for emotional boundaries, as well as an allusion to an individual's need to feel special. Its lyrics address subject matter such as depression, self-worth, social networking, and domestic violence. It also encompasses themes of sexuality, including BDSM, sexual orientation and same-sex relationships. Due to its sexually explicit content, the album reinforced Jackson's public image as a sex symbol and as one of the most erotic vocalists of the 1990s. Its incorporation of social issues regarding sexual orientation and combating homophobia also established her reputation as a gay icon and received the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music.

"Butterfly" (1997): MARIAH CAREY - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}06 oct. 202201:40:03

We are back for PART 2 of our Mariah Carey “Butterfly” journey. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the era!

This week, we read listener feedback and reviews and discuss our thoughts on Mariah’s Butterfly 25 campaign.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we talk about Tommy Motttola, Derek Jeter, and that one time Da Brat & Mariah escaped Sing Sing to get some fries at Burger King! We also discuss 90s media culture and how BRAVE Mariah was for promoting/addressing the dramas of her marriage to the man…who just so happens to be her boss & head of the label. Whew. There’s so much to unpack her: Mariah’s feelings on her multiracial identity, her place in the Vocal Trinity, and her dog Jack. Lambs, we hope we did your girl proud. Mariah, spread your wings and fly.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Mariah Carey “Butterfly” journey!

Album Info: Butterfly is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released on September 16, 1997, by Columbia Records. The album contains both hip hop and urban adult contemporary sounds, as well as some softer and more contemporary melodies. Throughout the project, Carey worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she had written and produced most of the material from her previous albums. She also worked with many famed hip hop producers and rappers, such as Sean "Puffy" Combs, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott and the Trackmasters. With the latter acts producing most of the album, Butterfly deviated from the adult contemporary sound of Carey's previous albums.

For this episode, we talk about how the era of social media and 2020 (WOOF) impacted the Ungodly Hour rollout. We also discuss the Diggy/ “Busy Boy” conspiracy and get into the benefit and downside of being Beyoncé’s protégés. Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

The album was supported by the singles "Do It", "Catch Up", and "Forgive Me", the former of which became their most successful song to date. A reissue of the album entitled the "Chrome Edition" was released on February 26, 2021.

"Destiny Fulfilled" (2004): DESTINY'S CHILD - Era Review | Diva Discography {Part 2}31 août 202201:43:16

We are back for PART 2 of our Destiny’s Child “Destiny Fulfilled” journey. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the era!

For the first 20 minutes of this episode, we read and play your voice messages regarding thoughts on Part 1 of our Destiny’s Child “Destiny Fulfilled” episode plus a continued discussion on Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” and cultural appropriation. As always, a huge shout out and thank you to those of you who submitted your thoughts!

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we talk about where Michelle, Kelly, and Beyoncé were at going into the Destiny Fulfilled era and how Beyoncé’s enormous solo success overshadowed the girls’ promotional tour. We also reflect on the “Poor Michelle'' narrative and how the general public contributed to the narrative. Plus, we share our thoughts on why we think Destiny’s Child’s “Destiny Fulfilled” era should be studied by future girl groups in the music industry.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Destiny’s Child “Destiny Fulfilled” journey!

Album Info: Destiny Fulfilled is the fifth and last studio album by American R&B trio Destiny's Child. It was released on November 16, 2004, by Columbia Records and Sony Urban Music. A comeback release, it marked the return of Destiny's Child after the group went into hiatus, which allowed each member to release solo albums. Unlike their previous material, this record saw each member equally contributing to the songwriting and production. Destiny's Child further worked with frequent collaborators such as Rockwilder, Swizz Beatz and Rodney Jerkins as well as several new producers.

Welcome back to PART 2 of our Beyoncé “Act 1: Renaissance” journey. In this episode, Angie and Steffi break down the era!

For the first 20 minutes of this episode, we read and play your voice messages regarding thoughts on Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album. So a huge shout out and thank you to those of you who submitted your thoughts! We really appreciated and loved hearing from you.

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we breakdown and discuss all the drama that has ALREADY happened in the Renaissance era: the album leaking, removing an ableist term, KELIS!, Diane Warren’s shady comments, and…if Beyoncé is culturally appreciating or culturally appropriating from ball culture. We also share our hopes for the music videos, future live performances and debate on the titan diva rivalry of our time: Beyoncé or Adele for Album of the Year? We then end the episode giving our predictions for what Beyoncé has in store for Act 2 and Act 3.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Beyoncé “Act 1: Renaissance” journey!

Album Info: Renaissance (also titled as Act I: Renaissance) is the seventh studio album by American singer Beyoncé, released on July 29, 2022, by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It is her first solo studio release since Lemonade (2016) and serves as the first installment of a trilogy project. Beyoncé conceived the album as a reflection of her state of mind during the COVID-19 pandemic, writing and producing it with Nova Wav, The-Dream, Symbolyc One, A. G. Cook, Honey Dijon, Beam, Tricky Stewart, BloodPop, Skrillex, Hit-Boy, No I.D., P2J and various others. Beam, Grace Jones and Tems appear as guest vocalists.

We’re putting a temporary pause on Girl Group Divas Summer, because Bey is back (and I’m sleepin’ real good at night.) For the next two weeks, we are deep diving into Beyoncé’s Renaissance…so far.

In this episode of Diva Dailies, Angie and Steffi review Beyoncé’s 7th solo studio album, “Renaissance” (2022). We also give a brief but much needed and deserved tribute to the passing of iconic, legendary diva Olivia Newton-John.

As we do in all of our Diva Discography episodes, part 1 is an in-depth review and discussion on EVERY SINGLE TRACK of the album. We then end our conversation sharing our Top 3 favorite songs from the album, 1 song we’d cut, and the underrated gem.

Make sure you tune in next week for part 2 when we talk about Beyonce’s Renaissance era.
