Tim Donaghy, a former NBA referee from 1994 to 2007, was at the center of a scandal in 2007 when it was revealed that he had been betting on NBA games, including ones he officiated. He pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and received a 15-month prison sentence.
The scandal sent shockwaves through the NBA and its fanbase, as it raised concerns about a referee compromising the integrity of the game. But there's a larger story here, one that goes beyond Donaghy. It's a story about the league's overall integrity, from the infamous Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals to the biases allegedly present in the NBA's officiating policies.
In our upcoming interview with Tim Donaghy, he shares his criticisms of the NBA's officiating and asserts that the league is biased toward certain teams and players. He claims that that is how he picked winners in his bets. However, it's important to note that despite his claims, and the claims of the NBA that there is no evidence of Donaghy betting on his games, many do believe that he allegedly did.
