| How to Know When to Pivot and When to Stay the Course - a Talents on Tap w/Tom Episode S3/EP35 | 06 Jun 2022 | 00:45:17 | |
What if I told you that when it comes to "Pivoting" , the thought that you should always pivot when you're not making progress. is a false belief? So what IS true? Listen for the amazing conversation with Tom Miter to find out! In this Talents on Tap episode, You will learn when the right time to pivot is and when it's better to stay the course in your business or life!
"Have you ever been in a business or even life situation where you realize you pivoted too quickly, you gave up on the process and you changed course, and you realize, looking back, that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead?" Yes? Me too! This is my story... I was in a business situation where I realized I pivoted too quickly and gave up on the process. I changed course and realized that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead. Sometimes we keep on the same course way too long and we lose the momentum that we had at the beginning because we should have pivoted a little bit, or at least adjusted the sail slightly to change direction a little bit, or sometimes just a whole new direction. Tom's story is different - he, on the other hand, has high consistency and tends to be better at staying the course. Which at times, can keep him stuck in mediocrity. Today we are going to talk about when to pivot and when to stay the course and some tips and tools to help you figure out that decision, a really hard decision when that situation arises. In this episode, you will learn the following:
Today's Talents on Tap beverage is from Brown's Brewing in Troy NY . Tom is drinking his all time favorite beer, CHERRY RAZZ. It's an Amber Ale brewed with cherries and raspberries. Sheri a drinking NIGEL a New England IPA - that's hazy and juice forward with notes of ripe pear, tangerine, & pineapple, Tonatiuh, Citra & El Dorado hops Follow & connect with me on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheri.miter LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherimiter/ Website: https://www.sherimiterco.com/ Loved this episode? | Fearless Career Change: How Faith, Courage, and Clarity Lead to Your Next Step S5E10 | 02 Feb 2026 | 00:17:21
If you feel God nudging you toward a new path but fear is louder than your faith, or if you are waiting for a guarantee before you take the first step, this episode is for you. Today, I am sharing a special message from my recent visioneering workshop for the Discovering Your Calling alumni. We explore three specific Bible stories that reveal a hard truth: often, the miracle only happens after you take the risky step. I discuss why we often hesitate to act because we do not want to look foolish or fail. We look at the stories of Joshua and the widow to see why obedience often defies logic, and why your "jar of oil" is already enough to start. You’ll learn: ✓ The "Flood Stage" Faith: Why you must step into the water before the river stops flowing (Joshua 3). ✓ The "Jericho Strategy": How to move forward even when the plan seems illogical or embarrassing to others. ✓ The "Empty Jar" Lesson: Why you need to ask for help and use the resources you already have right now. ✓ The Art of "Shutting the Door": How to block out distractions to focus entirely on your assignment. ✓ Reframing Success: Why God meets obedient action rather than waiting for perfect faith. Mentioned in this episode: 2026 Career Change Quiz Feeling successful but quietly restless? Take this short quiz (carefully curated by a career coach) to evaluate what kind of career change (if any) actually makes sense for you right now. TAKE THE QUIZ Love this episode or have questions? | Leading Through Change with CliftonStrengths® & Vision Crafting — A Conversation with John Hildebrand S5E08 | 12 Jan 2026 | 01:02:47
If you’ve set big goals for the year but they already feel like a heavy obligation... or if you’re a leader trying to fix team problems but only finding more frustration... this episode is for you. Today, I sat down with organizational change strategist John Hildebrand to explore why traditional goal setting often fails without a "magnetic vision." We discuss the science behind why goals can become "negative emotional attractors" when they aren't connected to a larger purpose, and how to shift your brain into a state that sustains long-term growth. John shares his personal journey from a status-driven definition of success to one of deep self-discovery. We unpack the difference between "fixing" and "visioneering," the hidden power of Empathy in leadership, and the specific questions you need to ask to bypass your inner critic. You’ll learn: ✓ The "Magnetic Vision" Secret: Why setting goals without an inspiring 10-year vision is a recipe for burnout and failure. ✓ Vision Crafting vs. Problem Solving: How to use the "Positive Opposite" approach to focus on what you want to see, rather than obsessing over what’s wrong. ✓ The "Lottery Question": A powerful exercise to silence your practical brain ($500 million tax-free!) and discover what truly lights you up. ✓ Empathy as a Hard Skill: Why this talent is often misunderstood and how it serves as a direct line to building trust in teams. ✓ Living the Questions: Wisdom from poet Rainer Maria Rilke on how to be patient with uncertainty and "live your way" into the answers. Mentioned in this episode:
If you’re ready to stop striving and start aligning with your God-given talents, let’s connect. I invite you to dive into your CliftonStrengths report, just as John and I discussed, so you can find the peace and clarity you deserve. Love this episode or have questions?
