Can Your Strengths Actually Hold You Back? S6E701 Jun 202600:21:14

What if the very talent that makes you successful is the exact thing holding you back?

You’re invested in personal growth and leaning into your CliftonStrengths. From the outside, your high responsibility or strategic thinking looks like a massive advantage. But underneath, you might feel overwhelmed, stuck in perfectionism, or carrying burdens that were never yours. In this episode, we explore the concept of dialing up and dialing down your strengths, and why every CliftonStrengths theme is actually neutral.

If you’ve been feeling:

  • Stuck in an endless loop of consuming information without actually implementing it
  • Exhausted by carrying responsibilities and guilt over things that were never yours to own
  • Paralyzed by perfectionism while endlessly tweaking a project

This conversation will help you use your talents as a strategic toolkit rather than an automatic default.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why the biggest misconception about your natural talents is that they are always helping you succeed.
  • How to visualize your CliftonStrengths like a sound mixing board to adjust your approach for any situation.
  • Real-world examples of dialing down the Maximizer and Learner themes to finally activate execution.
  • The danger of the high Responsibility theme and how to recognize when you are carrying too much.
  • A three-step framework: knowing your talents, intentionally using them, and recognizing when to rein them in.

Key Insight

No theme is inherently good or bad—it's all about how it's being used, the situation, your awareness level, and your energy.

Quick Self-Check

  • Is your current top strength helping you in this specific situation, or is it getting in your way?
  • Are you taking on something right now that isn't even yours to own?
  • Do you need to dial down a thinking or learning theme so you can finally take action?

Next Steps

Book a 90-minute Start with Strengths debrief session to discuss how your specific themes show up in real life, where they help you thrive, and where they might unintentionally be getting in your way. For summer 2026, the first 25 people to book will receive $100 off their session.

Overwhelmed With All the Success Advice? Learn How to Cut Through the Noise S6E604 May 202600:14:01

Feeling overwhelmed by all the noise around business, leadership, and what you “should” be doing next to create success in work & life?
In this episode, you’ll learn how to make aligned decisions without second-guessing yourself—by using your strengths as your filter.

Episode Summary

If you’re feeling stuck, second-guessing your decisions, or overwhelmed by conflicting advice on how to grow your business, lead your team, or figure out your next step—this episode will help you cut through the noise.

Because the truth is… there isn’t just one “right” way to succeed in business or leadership.

In this episode, Sheri breaks down why so much advice feels contradictory—and how to stop chasing every new strategy and start making aligned decisions based on your natural strengths.

You’ll learn how to use your strengths as a filter so you can lead with confidence, create a sustainable path forward, and finally feel clear on what works for you.

If you’ve been feeling:

  • Exhausted trying to follow strategies that don’t feel like you
  • Pulled in different directions by conflicting advice on business or leadership
  • Unsure if you’re actually on the right path—or just spinning your wheels

This conversation will help you cut through the noise and start making decisions based on how you’re actually wired—so you can move forward with more clarity, confidence, and ease.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why following someone else’s blueprint can leave you feeling drained and second-guessing yourself
  •  How to use the Energy Test to quickly tell what’s aligned (and what’s not)
  • The Sustainability Test to build a path you can actually maintain—without burning out
  • Real-life examples of how different CliftonStrengths profiles lead to completely different—and equally successful—approaches to business and leadership

Key Insight

“The problem isn’t that you need a better strategy—it’s that you’ve been trying to follow one that was never designed for you.”

Quick Self-Check

The next time you hear a new strategy or piece of advice, pause and ask:

  •  Does this feel energizing—or draining?
  •  Does this feel like me—or something I’d have to force?
  •  Could I realistically sustain this for the next 6 months?

How to Know When to Pivot and When to Stay the Course - a Talents on Tap w/Tom Episode S3/EP3506 Jun 202200:45:17

What if I told you that when it comes to "Pivoting" , the thought that you should always pivot when you're not making progress. is a false belief? So what IS true? Listen for the amazing conversation with Tom Miter to find out!

In this Talents on Tap episode,  You will learn when the right time to pivot is and when it's better to stay the course in your business or life!

"Have you ever been in a business or even life situation where you realize you pivoted too quickly, you gave up on the process and you changed course, and you realize, looking back, that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead?"

Yes? Me too!  This is my story...

I was in a business situation where I realized I pivoted too quickly and gave up on the process. I changed course and realized that if I had only stayed doing what I was doing, I'd be that much further ahead. Sometimes we keep on the same course way too long and we lose the momentum that we had at the beginning because we should have pivoted a little bit, or at least adjusted the sail slightly to change direction a little bit, or sometimes just a whole new direction.  Tom's story is different - he,  on the other hand, has high consistency and tends to be better at staying the course.  Which at times, can keep him stuck in mediocrity.  Today we are going to talk about when to pivot and when to stay the course and some tips and tools to help you figure out that decision, a really hard decision when that situation arises.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. When is the best time to pivot in business or in life?
  2. What are the signs that it might be time to pivot?
  3. What are the consequences of not pivoting when necessary?
  4. What are the signs you should hold steady and stay the course?

Today's Talents on Tap beverage is from Brown's Brewing in Troy NY .  Tom is drinking his all time favorite beer, CHERRY RAZZ.  It's an Amber Ale brewed with cherries and raspberries.  Sheri a drinking NIGEL a New England IPA - that's hazy and juice forward with notes of ripe pear, tangerine, & pineapple, Tonatiuh, Citra & El Dorado hops

Fearless Career Change: How Faith, Courage, and Clarity Lead to Your Next Step S5E1002 Feb 202600:17:21

If you feel God nudging you toward a new path but fear is louder than your faith, or if you are waiting for a guarantee before you take the first step, this episode is for you.

Today, I am sharing a special message from my recent visioneering workshop for the Discovering Your Calling alumni. We explore three specific Bible stories that reveal a hard truth: often, the miracle only happens after you take the risky step.

I discuss why we often hesitate to act because we do not want to look foolish or fail. We look at the stories of Joshua and the widow to see why obedience often defies logic, and why your "jar of oil" is already enough to start.

You’ll learn:

✓ The "Flood Stage" Faith: Why you must step into the water before the river stops flowing (Joshua 3).

✓ The "Jericho Strategy": How to move forward even when the plan seems illogical or embarrassing to others.

✓ The "Empty Jar" Lesson: Why you need to ask for help and use the resources you already have right now.

✓ The Art of "Shutting the Door": How to block out distractions to focus entirely on your assignment.

Unlock Your Potential: How Vision Boards Transform Work & Life Goals S5E919 Jan 202600:29:50

Have you ever wondered if vision boards are just a fun craft project, or if they actually help you achieve your dreams?

In this episode, we move beyond the "woo-woo" and get into the practical reasons why a vision board is one of the most powerful tools for your career and life. If you have ever bought a specific car and suddenly started seeing it everywhere on the road, you already know how this works. It is about training your brain to notice the opportunities that matter.

I break down the critical difference between a "Goal Poster" (your checklist) and a "Vision Board" (your emotional anchor) and walk you through the exact steps to create one that pulls you toward your future.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The Science of Focus: How the Reticular Activating System works (and the "Red Mustang" example) to filter reality in your favor.
  • Vision Board vs. Goal Poster: Why you need both in your office but why they serve two very different purposes.
  • The 5 Essentials: The specific items to include on your board, from emotional images to symbols and affirmations.
  • The Guardrails: 5 rules to follow to ensure your board is for you, not for Instagram.
  • The Vision Statement: How to write a present-tense story for your life that helps you internalize your success before it happens.

Mentioned in this episode:

  • Discovering Your Calling (Book)
  • The concept of "Fearful Fred" vs. "Ready to Go Ruth"

Action Step: Once you listen, gather your supplies (magazines, stickers, photos) and block out time this week to build your board. If you feel brave, snap a photo and DM it to me. I would love to cheer you on as you set the direction for 2026.

Why EMPATHETIC LEADERSHIP Doesn’t Work…For Everyone! A Talents on Tap Episode S3/E1824 Jan 202200:52:24

Empathetic Leadership - everyone is saying it's a must for today's leaders.  Inside this episode of Talents on Tap we answer the questions leaders are asking about Empathy and great leadership.  Questions like:

  • What happens if you aren't naturally an empathetic person?
  • Can you still be an empathetic leader if Empathy is not one of your Top 10 Strengths?
  • Do you really need to be an empathetic leader to be a great leader?
  • What characteristics make a truly caring leader?

Hopefully the conversation inside will help you answer these questions, as you Navigate YOUR Leadership journey!

Today's Talents on Tap beverage is from Treehouse Brewing Company.  Tom & Sheri are both enjoying the House Lager which is an American Light Lager.  A nice clean crisp easy to drink lager.

But, the way to work is through people. And I think if we can spend time developing what's best in people, and if we can spend time giving them the highest propensity to be successful in what they're doing, I don't know if there's a better way to do it”

6 Shifts Businesses Must Make to Attract and Keep Great Team Members - Part 1 of 3 - S3/E1306 Dec 202100:35:58

What great employees desire in a career has changed! The employers who want to attract and KEEP top team members should pay attention to the 6 changing demands of today's workforce.  Most of the changes are simple and can be very cost-effective to implement.  Many only require a change of perspective, a change of thinking, and a change in S.O.P.’s.  Even the changes that will require a financial investment are still a fraction of what retraining and rehiring are costing companies today.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • 5 facts you should know about employee turnover.  Knowing these may help you keep your best team members.
  • What, according to a Linkedin study, 94% of employees said would have kept them at a job longer if their company provided this.  (don't miss it!)
  • How much you should be investing in professional and career development in 2022.

This Week's Leadership Challenge - 1) Ask your team what your mission & vision is.  If they don't know, it might be time to work on that..  2) Create a training budget and plan for 2022 (perhaps a Strengths workshop or HPT??).

This week’s quote: "Income seldom exceeds personal development." - Jim Rohn

Leading Through Change with CliftonStrengths® & Vision Crafting — A Conversation with John Hildebrand S5E0812 Jan 202601:02:47

If you’ve set big goals for the year but they already feel like a heavy obligation... or if you’re a leader trying to fix team problems but only finding more frustration... this episode is for you.

Today, I sat down with organizational change strategist John Hildebrand to explore why traditional goal setting often fails without a "magnetic vision." We discuss the science behind why goals can become "negative emotional attractors" when they aren't connected to a larger purpose, and how to shift your brain into a state that sustains long-term growth.

John shares his personal journey from a status-driven definition of success to one of deep self-discovery. We unpack the difference between "fixing" and "visioneering," the hidden power of Empathy in leadership, and the specific questions you need to ask to bypass your inner critic.

You’ll learn:

✓ The "Magnetic Vision" Secret: Why setting goals without an inspiring 10-year vision is a recipe for burnout and failure.

✓ Vision Crafting vs. Problem Solving: How to use the "Positive Opposite" approach to focus on what you want to see, rather than obsessing over what’s wrong.

✓ The "Lottery Question": A powerful exercise to silence your practical brain ($500 million tax-free!) and discover what truly lights you up.

✓ Empathy as a Hard Skill: Why this talent is often misunderstood and how it serves as a direct line to building trust in teams.

✓ Living the Questions: Wisdom from poet Rainer Maria Rilke on how to be patient with uncertainty and "live your way" into the answers.

Mentioned in this episode:

If you’re ready to stop striving and start aligning with your God-given talents, let’s connect. I invite you to dive into your CliftonStrengths report, just as John and I discussed, so you can find the peace and clarity you deserve.

The Simple 3 Step Framework to Achieve Your Work & Life Goals in 2026 S5E0705 Jan 202600:22:18

If you looked back at 2025 and realized you drifted, got distracted, or missed the mark on your biggest dreams, you are not alone. Even after years of personal development, it is possible to slide into a spiral of doubt when the results don't match the effort.

In this episode, we strip away the complex workshops and "louder" goal-setting tactics that often overwhelm ambitious women. Instead, we focus on a simple, proven 3-step framework to move from confusion to clear, directed action.

We explore why "insight" alone isn't enough to change your life and how to create a strategy that actually fits your season of life.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The Trap of "More": Why we often fail not because we lack goals, but because we lack anchors and say "yes" to too many good things.
  • The 3-Step Framework: A breakdown of Clarity, Strategy, and Sustainable Focus.
  • Strengths Alignment: Why your strategy must use your natural talents if you want the results to stick past February.
  • Overcoming the Spiral: How to kick off the covers, stop wallowing, and create a plan even when you feel heavy emotions.

Next Step: If you are standing at a career crossroads and want to ensure 2026 is your year of clarity, don't wait. Take the 2026 Career Change Quiz or book a clarity call today to start the conversation.

The Attributes and Hazards of Your Leadership Style! S2/13124 Aug 202100:22:53

There are great things about every leadership style - but just like when my husband and I are out sailing we have to watch out for the danger buoys or end up stuck on a pile of rocks in the middle of the lake - which can put a damper on any great sailing day-  Every leader needs to be mindful of the downside of their leadership style.  Of course, some leaders are a combination of these styles and each person needs to take into account all of their talents and strengths, and skills.  This episode is an overview of the highlights and the downfalls of each leadership style.  Use this as a starting place to acknowledge and recognize when you are at your best and areas to watch out for and avoid! Here’s to happy sailing with Your Leadership Style!
