466. 4Qs With Camille Corbett07 Nov 202400:16:07

What are the 4Qs? (1) Three favorite films. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out.

Happy Thursday, Everyone! I’m writing this intro before Election Day so either you all know something I don’t know yet or we’re all still nervously waiting.

Regardless, there’s no better way to spend today than following up Camille Corbett’s terrific interview posted Tuesday with her 4 Questions.

Camille brought her comedy/horror short “The Island” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023 and took home a Programmer’s Prize – Exceptional Filmmaking.

Camille is an impressively busy multi-hyphenate person ( Writer/Director/Actor/Producer/Comedian/Model) and I’m excited for you to hear about some of her inspirations here!

465. Camille Corbett “The Island”05 Nov 202401:27:16

A beautiful Tuesday to you all! I know the focus on everyone’s mind today is the new podcast release from Discover Indie Film, right?

We thought this insightful, engaging interview with the extremely talented Camille Corbett would be the perfect thing to put out on this Election Day to distract and remind everyone of the importance of art despite whatever outcome you’re hoping for.

Camille brought her comedy/horror short “The Island” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023 and took home a Programmer’s Prize – Exceptional Filmmaking.

I’ll be honest… for the last year I was hoping she’d have time to record a podcast because Camille is an incredibly busy multi-hyphenate person! Writer/Director/Actor/Producer/Comedian/Model…heck, you can even add Podcaster to that list.
But Camille had some time and came in person to sit down at the mics with me and we had an amazing talk.
Camille has an incredible life story, filled with education, travel, and creativity. Enjoy!

You can check out “The Island” and learn more about Camille on:

354. Noel David Taylor “Man Under Table”03 Feb 202301:07:16

Noel David Taylor made the film “Man Under Table OR ‘I’m Writing A Movie'” and it premiered at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2019.  And when I say he “made” the film, I mean it.  He wrote, directed, played the lead role, shot most of it, did the set decoration… in many ways I consider it one of the ultimate indie films.  That’s why it took home the Programmer’s Prize for Outstanding Filmmaking.

The good news is that you can watch “Man Under Table” right now at arrow-player.com.

You can follow Noel on Instagram at @avi.mov or learn more about him at his website noeldavidtaylor.com.

Noel is simply the best and I loved having this conversation with him.  And Zoom cuts us off just over an hour into our chat.  We spoke for at least another half hour, but those words are lost forever.  If this was ever going to happen to this podcast, of course it was for the recording that took over two years of emails back and forth trying to find a time to make it happen.  Yes, I am cursing the gods of Zoom.

333. 4Qs with Tim Slowikowski & Aaron Hagele17 Dec 202200:20:01

First time filmmakers Tim Slowikowski & Aaron Hagele brought their documentary feature “Party Dream” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2022 and took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Documentary at the 2022.  I’ve been shouting at strangers on the street to watch it ever since.  And you can watch right now by clicking the Party Dream justwatch.com page.

As long as we were on Zoom to discuss the film, it only made sense for Aaron & Tim to answer the 4Qs above.  As music documentary lovers and now music documentary filmmakers, their answers take a decidedly music doc focus.  Which is great, because most filmmakers never mention the genre.

If you want to read it, here’s my DIF Review of Party Dream, as if you didn’t know what I think of this film.

332. Aaron Hagele & Tim Slowikowski “Party Dream”16 Dec 202201:04:39

Aaron Hagele & Tim Slowikowski made the documentary feature “Party Dream,” which you can watch right now by clicking the Party Dream justwatch.com page.  This fantastic film took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Documentary at the 2022 Sherman Oaks Film Festival and I’ve been shouting at strangers on the street to watch it ever since.

It is rare, almost unheard of, for a film to be released so soon after I meet the filmmakers at SOFF, so this is an especially fun podcast for me. Tim and Aaron are wonderful, humble people who truly set out to make a film for all the right reasons. That’s probably why it turned out so well.

Watch the film, listen to the interview, and become a fan of the “Party Dream” movie and the band it’s based on, “Gil Mantera’s Party Dream,” the craziest band you’ve never seen.

If you want to read it, here’s my DIF Review of Party Dream, as if you didn’t know what I think of this film.

What are the 4Qs?  (1) Three favorite films. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out.  But not in this podcast!

This 4Qs is a little special, because filmmaker Greg Berman is the multi-hyphenate artist  behind the film “She Used To Laugh,” an official selection at both Film Invasion Los Angeles and the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2021, taking home multiple awards.  So… because Greg is a Filmmaker, Actor, Magician and Comedian, we agreed this his 4Qs would be…

(1) Three favorite films. (2) Three favorite actors. (3) Three favorite magicians. (4) Three favorite comedians.

Don’t ever say that I’m a stick in the mud who will not try new things.

452. Sean Dube and Patrick Quinlan “Bro Code”08 Aug 202401:45:01

Welcome back, everyone! Sean Dube and Patrick Quinlan brought their film “Bro Code” to Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2023  and won a Programmer’s Prize! Sean and Patrick are a great comedic duo in this script written by Sean. The pair co-produced the film with director Presley Paras, making them a trio of sorts!

Thanks to a few hurdles back in 2023 we did not get to do an interview about “Bro Code” at the festival, making this podcast my first opportunity to hear the story behind this funny, heartfelt short.

You will soon be able to watch Bro Code on the DIF TV series and TVHi. Keep your eyes on these show-notes for its release!

Not only is Jenny’s film “VOICE” wonderful, but her love of dance and film led her to launch EDIFF, Exeter Dance International Film Festival.  Yes, you should pronounce that as, “Ediff,” in a UK accent so that it sounds like Ediff could be your auntie.

In THIS podcast, we don’t tail about Christopher’s wonderful film.  Instead he answers the 4Qs above.
