Well the time has (sort of) come, we call a hiatus on the pod after 9 glorious years of mostly bullshit and indefensible positions about Madame Web not looking "that bad". We're taking some time away to reset and potentially plan a few theme months which aren't just riffs on Shrektember. It's Hollywood's biggest night! Unfortunately it's a departure from our usual experience with the Oscars as Alex is away so we can't do our annual watch along torture. Instead we bring you our alternative nominations and predict who or what should win and will win in some of the prestige categories. 

Will normal service be resumed next year? We pray that we never have to do another all nighter for this podcast.

Our semi regular video game episode returns with a bang, Andy has been playing more video games than usual, Alex has actually been consistently playing a game for longer than he was forced to. 

We round up both the good and bad in video games that we've been playing, whether Andy likes or hates a game he's put over 70 hours into and whether Alex will win the championship with Williams, exciting stuff!

In a relatively sparse episode of news and reviews we still somehow find time to prattle on for a while about nonsense, mainly Alex being upset with the movie industry if we're being totally honest.

We sum up the biggest and best in news stories, we try to work out who will actually watch 'Avatar 2', why they would try to make a 'Deadpool 3' and whether there are more than 2 types of films. 

On the review front we discuss 'Red Rocket', the new film from Sean Baker and one of Alex's most anticipated films of the year. Andy also covers Netflix's new Ryan Reynolds starring sci-fi film 'The Adam Project'.

With this weekend seeing the release of the latest film in the ongoing stories of the caped crusader in 'The Batman', we thought we'd see how Alex would survive being Batman with none of the training.

How many of the villains will Alex defeat? Will Gotham fear or praise him? Has anyone ever asked The Joker his name? Andy guides you through it all here.

This week we find a news & reviews episode which sees large scale disaster movies colliding with small budget movies about witchy women living their wiccan way in the woods. Nothing new here then.

We talk big budget nonsense in 'Moonfall', horror reboot garbage in 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', a couple of Shudder originals and Oscar nominated Spanish film 'Parallel Mothers'.

To celebrate the release of heartwarming man and dog road trip movie 'Dog' this week, we take time to pitch our own versions of one word animal escapades. We imagine the hijinks and scrapes we'd have along the way and flesh out some pretty predictable story beats that you find in all of these sorts of films. 

It's been a little while but News & Reviews finally returns with a solid crop of reviews of the latest in films and TV series. We also round up some recent trailers and the Oscar nominations that were announced last week. 

We talk about noir thriller 'Nightmare Alley', video game adaptation adventure 'Uncharted', quiet drama 'Mass', recent George Clooney directed coming of age memoir 'The Tender Bar' and puritanical horror 'The Last Thing Mary Saw'. Andy also rounds up season 1 of both 'Reacher' and 'The Book Of Boba Fett'.

As timely as ever we enter another year of this podcast with a spoiler review of a film which has been out for almost 2 months now, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. 

We go into what worked for us, what didn't, character reveals and inciting incidents. We talk in depth about all aspects of the film so we do sound the spoiler porg pretty early on, but chances are you will have seen the film by this point if you're interested in watching it. 

To add more competitive elements to the podcast we've looked to the world of sports for inspiration this week and come up with this, the first ever Dinosaur Man Draft!

Tragic news everyone! Netflix decided to cut back on the amount of festive nonsense they were pumping out this year. So we've expanded out our usual format to other streamers this year.

After the rip roaring success of our 3 previous deep dives into the world of Netflix original Christmas movies we return with a look into this years line up from Netflix, Disney and Amazon. We get into the ins and outs of three entries. 

'Best. Christmas. Ever!', 'Dashing Through The Snow' and 'Candy Cane Lane' are the subjects this year. Unfortunately none of them are musicals but we live and learn, however there are always Christmas songs to be sung and Eggnog to be drunk, not to mention morals to impart!

We kick off the first News & Reviews of 2022 with reviews of four films from 2021, naturally. 

'The Tragedy of Macbeth' is the new Joel Coen adaptation of the Shakespeare play which has just hit Apple TV+ after a few weeks in cinemas, seen as an awards hopeful, will it prove divisive? 'Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain' has finally come to the UK after being available for 6 months stateside, 'Malignant' is the latest horror movie from James Wan and is quite something to experience, the less you know the better. Finally, we talk about a film which isn't even the most recent film in the MCU, 'Eternals' is directed by Chloe Zhao and was seen as a big departure from standard Marvel formula by many. But do we like it?

As awards season pulls into view we begin with a new kid on the block in our inaugural Game of the Year awards for games played in 2021 (although released in some cases half a decade ago). Andy doles out awards to a bunch of big and small names in the world of video games, Alex acts as the recapper of the year in videogame news whilst giving his opinion on the couple of games he actually played last year.

Step into Christmas loyal listeners with us as your festive guides, it's the most wonderful time of the year and this is our festive treat to you. 

In keeping with the season we take a look at the connective tissue between heartwarming family drama 'Jack Frost', in which Michael Keaton plays a struggling blues musician who gets a second chance at a relationship with his son when he gets reincarnated as a sentient snowman, and 'Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman' which is also about a reincarnated man just trying to live his life again as he did first time around. 

Astonishingly the films do share a surprising amount in common, do they also share the same quality level? Yes.

Welcome to this, the final News & Reviews of 2021. As we close out another year we have a less busy than usual slate of reviews, mainly due to the ongoing situation regarding the rise in cases of Covid in the UK.

We do have reviews of awards frontrunner 'The Power Of The Dog', a brooding mood piece released on Netflix worldwide, 'Old' which is the latest film from M. Night Shyamalan and Andy gives his thoughts on latest James Bond outing 'No Time To Die'.

With the impending release of Spider-Man: No Way Home this week, we decided to take a look at his most famous stable of villains, The Sinister Six.

We cast multiverse versions of six villains previously featured in at least one of the Spider-Man feature films and justify our reasoning for some slightly strange casting decisions that are sure to annoy fanbases and possibly general audiences too, we also try to establish when notable action heroes were still relevant. 

In the penultimate News & Reviews of this year Alex brings you a bumper crop of new releases. 

From Netflix we have documentaries 'Procession', 'A Cop Movie' and directorial debuts in Oscar hopefuls 'tick, tick...BOOM!' and 'Passing', alongside this we have festive Aardman stop motion with 'Robin Robin'.

Elsewhere there's powerful drama 'Rose Plays Julie', satirical thriller 'The Beta Test', mother and child horror 'Son' and MCU entertainment by way of 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'. 

Alex is joined once again by Paul in order to celebrate another significant milestone in the history of this podcast, it's Episode 400! 

We talk about the history of the podcast, the future, Fatboy Slim, Banksy and also review 2015's Science Fiction Mystery '400 Days', which is no good at all.

With the imminent return of the Ghostbusters franchise proper with this weekend's release of the sequel 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife', Alex and Paul got to thinking about what pointless sequels to beloved properties they could pitch to try and cash in on the retro trends. 

Alex loses the spirit of his original film whilst Paul manages to make a young and trendy version that still retains original cast members. Both sound pretty horrible, but which is worse?

Welcome back to the podcast, this week we'll be mostly reviewing movies that have come out anytime between a week ago and 10 months ago, a real diverse spread today. 

Paul joins the pod again to drop his reviews of sci fi epic 'Dune', long awaited and long delayed James Bond entry 'No Time To Die', comic book sequel 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' and Netflix's remake of the Danish thriller 'The Guilty' which stars Jake Gyllenhaal. Alex takes part in reviewing the horror sequel 'Halloween Kills', the middle entry in the revived timeline of Michael Myers, he also reviews the documentary 'MLK/FBI' from earlier ths year.

Between satellite screenings around the country and at home screenings on BFI Player, this year had a packed schedule with plenty for everyone. Julia Ducournau's French thriller 'Titane' is the Palme d'Or winning follow up to 'Raw' and has been the subject of much discussion and hype since it's premiere there. Kristen Stewart stars as an imagined version of Princess Diana during a pivotal Christmas with the in-laws in 'Spencer', Edgar Wright's much anticipated time warping thriller 'Last Night in Soho' stars Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy, 'Flee' is a much talked about animated documentary detailing the journey of a young gay refugee from Afghanistan, Jeymes Samuel opened the festival with his stylish western 'The Harder They Fall' which stars Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba, finally Lee Haven Jones' strange Welsh language horror 'The Feast' features a dinner party unlike any other.

Shocktober contiinues with another special episode, Andy is tasked with assembling a Blumhouse style horror film from some predetermined categories and seeing if he can bring in a successful movie whilst remaining under the famously tight budget constrictions in place. 

Which concept does he choose? Who does he cast? Will anyone want to watch it? Listen in to find out.

As spooky season draws in we have a farewell to News & Reviews for a few weeks, don't worry though we're not leaving you with anything but a bumper episode. We've got brand spanking new releases and things we've caught up with from earlier in the year.

Reviews this week are of David Lowery's medieval fantasy 'The Green Knight', Netflix revenge actioner 'Kate', neon tinged assassin expoits in 'Gunpowder Milkshake', quiet drama 'After Love', horror juggernaught 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' and live action/animation hybrid 'Tom & Jerry'.

It's a special episode this week, much like when Two and a Half Men were in CSI for a storyline (everyone remembers this right?), it's a podcast crossover! There is a slight audio glitch at the start of the episode but it seems to be resolved after that.

To celebrate the release of 'Free Guy' this week the boys decide to look into some video game worlds and how easy it would be to adjust to living in them, we talk ride on lawnmowing empires, homeless 10 year olds and learning foreign languages the British ex pat way. Pointing and shouting. 

It takes a turn towards deranged at the end but that's knd of the main reason you listen right? If you can't support us at our best then you don't deserve us at our worst.

With the upcoming release of F9, the latest installment in the now 20 year old The Fast and The Furious series, Andy has put together a handy revision guide for anyone planning to make this their first foray into the world of car heists. 

He details the often confusing world of various street racers, hackers, villainous Brits and lawmen without backbones from 2001 to the present day. See this as your ultimate guide to one of the most astonishingly nonsensical franchises in cinema history.

With the recent rollout of 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' we thought we'd present an educational tool for your use if you've not been keeping up to date with the goings on in the Conjurverse. With 8 films and more on the way it's already pretty packed with interconnected stories and various demons up to no good.
