Welcome to the gardening podcast, "Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat" – Join Janey Santos and her passion for gardening as she aims to help your garden grow too! From her home and vibrant garden in Northern California, gardening is not just her hobby; it's her way of life.

Janey will take you into her garden, sharing personal insights and expert advice to guide you in nurturing your own slice of nature. Whether this is your first spring or you've spent a lifetime in the soil, she’s going to delve into all aspects of gardening together. Janey is here to help you select the perfect plants, prepare the best soil mixes, choose the right fertilizers, and uncover the myriad of tips and tricks for creating a stunning garden, both indoors and out.

Janey will be joined by experts from every gardening discipline – from nursery owners to professional landscapers – to share their knowledge and inspire you to get your hands dirty. At "Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat," her goal is simple: to encourage everyone to embrace the joy of gardening and have a great time doing it!

Janey is constantly learning and wants to share all that she discovers with you, celebrating successes and learning from failures together.

Sara is a landscape designer/contractor, TV host and Author.  Sara owns and operates Sarita Landscape Designs which focuses on residential design throughout Southern California.  For part of the year Sara travels the country doing talks and often hosts landscape renovation shows that encourage people to value the outdoor spaces they have.

Natives vs. Invasives with Lauren Pratt

Janey welcomes Lauren Pratt on this episode for a conversation about the differences between native and invasive plants. Lauren is a lifetime gardener and the founding principal designer of Pratt Landscape Design. Put simply by Lauren, there are native plants that are great for where you are, but there are also non-native plants that are also great for where you are!  A sometimes controversial topic in the gardening world, join them to dive deeper into this topic.  

Lauren has over 20 years of design experience and went to school for interior design. She fell into the world of landscape design after being hired as a design assistant for a landscape architect at a local civil engineering firm and never looked back! Pratt Landscape Design is located in the Central Valley and focuses on sustainable, waterwise planting and design. Landscape is truly her passion and that shows in this fun conversation!

He INVENTED the SUPERTUNIA! A Sit Down with Ushio Sakazakai, Plant Breeder Extraordinaire

While on a work trip to Southern Brasil, Ushio Sakazakai noticed some wild petunias growing in a unique way.  Instead of growing up, they were growing out.  Way out.  He took some seeds back home to Japan and eventually developed the plant we all know and love, the Supertunia!On this episode of the Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat podcast,

Janey was able to sit down with the famed plant breeder to have a discussion about how supertunias, superbenas and superbells came about, his work with Proven Winners and the importance of keeping plants somewhat wild for the consumer.

Planting in Clay Soil with Jenny from Gardening with Creekside

Jenny is familiar with red clay soil.  Her home and garden center are located in an area with massive amounts of clay making planting difficult at times.  Jenny is on the podcast today talking about ways she has learned to cope with the clay soil, how to work with it, not against it, and how to get plants to thrive.

Gardening & Autism with Melissa from The Piece-Full Garden

Days before the country was shut down in 2020 due to the pandemic, Melissa learned her child was diagnosed with autism.  As a coping mechanism for the stress of the time, Melissa’s husband encouraged her to get out into the garden.  Little did Melissa know, that encouragement would change everything.  Gardening became her escape as well as a tool to interact with her son. 

The sensory experience of gardening not only helped her, but her son as well.Melissa is on the podcast today sharing her experience and educating us on why gardening not only can help autistic children interact with the world, but can also help autistic caregivers as well.
