| SILENT HILLS (with Ted Hentschke & October Keegan) | 20 Jul 2021 | 01:58:41 | |
The most tragic horror video game cancellation of all time is arguably Silent Hills. 2014 saw the release of P.T. —the horrifying playable trailer for Silent Hills— and the internet lost its mind. P.T. went on to receive tons of fanfare and made every end-of-year list imaginable. But Silent Hills never happened.
Now the Development Hell podcast investigates what happened to the infamous game from Konami Hideo Kojima, and Guillermo del Toro. We unpack the speculated drama within Konami, and identity the key players in the narrative.
But that’s not all! We also look to the future of the Silent Hill franchise. While there hasn’t been a Silent Hill game released in nearly a decade, there has been tons of speculation about the property’s imminent return.
The guests:
Ted Hentschke heads up the DreadXP team, the video game extension of Dread Central! So this guy knows horror games. Ted helps host Josh Korngut contextualize the current state of video games and is here to ensure all facts are correct. Find him over at dreadxp.com
October Keegan is a Senior Writer for Rely on Horror, but better yet, she’s a Silent Hill historian. She walks host Josh Korngut and guest Ted through the nitty-gritty details of Silent Hill’s recent news, rumours and internal drama. Find October over at relyonhorror.com on Twitter. | ZOMBIELAND: THE SERIES (with Jinx) | 29 Jun 2021 | 01:17:12
On this brand new episode of the Development Hell podcast, host Josh Korngut salvages the lost remains of Zombieland: The Series.
Once again Josh is joined by special guest Jason Jenkins (aka Jinx). Jinx is the writer behind the Bloody Disgusting column Phantom Limbs where he too uncovers the truth behind horror movies that were never made.
While the film's original characters star in the shot pilot, none of the original cast reprised their roles. While it was created by a writer of the original film, Rhett Reese, this series faced demise before it ever got greenlit.
Josh and Jinx uncover why this series has been “successfully hated out of existence by fans”.

| HALLOWEEN 3D with Emily Gagne [REMASTERED] | 22 Jun 2021 | 01:07:03 | |
It might only be June, but Halloween never dies!
This week we rerelease our episode all about the never-made Halloween 3D from the duo behind My Bloody Valentine 3D Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer.
This lost sequel was meant to be the third chapter in the Rob Zombie Halloween franchise, as set up at the end of 2009's Halloween II.
This week's special guest is a longtime friend of the podcast, Emily Gagne. Emily is a filmmaker, writer, and podcaster. She curates Final Girl Fashion and cohosts the We Really Like Her podcast.
There have been numerous unmade Halloween sequels, but this one might be the craziest. Host Josh Korngut and guest Emily Gagne discuss the wild Halloween 3D screenplay. There are multiple 3D head decapitations, tons of carnage, and even the corpse of Michael's mother makes a surprisingly long appearance.

| CARY FUKUNAGA‘S IT (with Emily Gagne) | 01 Jun 2021 | 01:04:41 | |
The Development Hell podcast unearths Cary Fukunaga’s (TRUE DETECTIVE) unmade adaptation of Stephen King’s IT!
With guest Emily Gagne (BEST FRIENDS FOREVER), this new episode uncovers a very different (and darker) vision of Stephen King’s seminal work of terror.
Emily Gagne is a filmmaker, podcaster and writer. She curates FINAL GIRL FASHION on Instagram, an account showcasing the killer outfits of women in horror. Emily also co-hosts the podcasts We Really Like Her! And What About Meryll.
Together we cover the IT miniseries, both feature films and the classic Stephen King novel which started it all. That’s when we dive into Cary Fukunaga’s and Chase Palmer's 2014 draft of the IT adaptation which was ultimately cancelled.
Furthermore, we explore the nitty-gritty differences between the Andy Muschietti vision of Derry and how it compares to the Fukanga/Chase draft. We also speculate wildly about why Warner Brothers jumped ship after developing IT with Fukanga for nearly five years.
If you are a fan of Stephen King’s IT and Pennywise the Dancing Clown? If so, you won't want to miss this episode.
Do you think the recent films did the book justice? Let us know on social media!

| SEANCE & YOU‘RE NEXT 2 (with director Simon Barrett) | 18 May 2021 | 01:01:49 | |
This week, Development Hell interrogates horror icon and filmmaker Simon Barrett. We pick his brains about the movies he didn’t get made. And the ones he did. Simon discusses his upcoming feature film SEANCE starring Suki Waterhouse (ASSASSINATION NATION). This horror mystery takes place at a prestigious private school where six friends invite a new girl to join them in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened. SEANCE is available in theaters, on-demand and digital on May 21, 2021. Simon also talks about the other horror classics he's made (THE GUEST, VHS, BLAIR WITCH). We then pester him into telling us about the films he lost to development hell, including a remake of the Korean thriller I SAW THE DEVIL. | 2: HELLRAISER REBOOT (with Teddy Tenenbaum) | 06 Apr 2021 | 01:05:20
On this episode of the Development Hell podcast, Hollywood screenwriter Teddy Tenenbaum talks about writing a 2014 HELLRAISER project for Dimension Films. Teddy dishes the dirt on what it takes to get a horror movie made, his unlikely first encounter with Guillermo Del Toro, and what it was like working with Clive Barker on a television series about Ed and Lorraine Warren. Teddy also gets into the details about the plot behind his HELLRAISER concept (it’s wild), what it was like being shaded by Bob Weinstein, and when Dimension Films pitted his script against another written by Clive Barker himself. We sat down with the director and writer of the CHILDREN OF THE CORN (2023) to unearth the latest version of the Stephen King short story. Discover what it took to create a film in the middle of the pandemic and why it was delayed nearly three years. In the film, possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won't go along with the plan is the town's only hope of survival. CHILDREN OF THE CORN is available to stream as of today (March 21st) via Shudder. The VOD release is on March 21st, while the DVD and Blu-ray release lands on May 9th. Follow Development Hell: Instagram - @DevelopmentHellPod Subscribe to the Development Hell podcast!
