Temperaments and Fasting with Rosemary Berry07 Aug 202500:40:47

Why does spiritual fasting feel easy for some and incredibly difficult for others?

In this episode, Beth interviews Catholic author and storyteller Rosemary McGuire Berry to explore how your God-given temperament can shape your journey toward holiness—and how understanding it can transform your approach to fasting, prayer, and virtue.

Drawing from Rosemary’s new book, Piety and Personality: The Temperaments of the Saints, they discuss how saints like St. Paul and St. Thomas Aquinas lived out their vocations in alignment with their unique personalities.

Whether you're choleric, melancholic, sanguine, phlegmatic—or have no idea what any of that means—this episode will give you new tools for both spiritual insight and practical growth.

Why Doing Hard Things Changes Everything24 Jul 202500:32:29

Summer's not over yet, and it's not too late to tackle the tough goals still on your heart.

Permanent weight loss and powerful intercessory prayer are possible this season. Spiritual Fasting strengthens both body and soul, preparing you for the deeper mission God is calling you to.

Based on the book, The Gap and The Gain by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy, I am exploring how they relate to spiritual fasting and personal growth.

Focusing on what we lack (the gap) keeps us stuck in negativity and self-comparison, while celebrating our progress (the gain) opens us up to gratitude, confidence, and God’s guidance.

Sometimes, it takes real struggle to get serious. But like David facing Goliath or Moses leaving Egypt, you can choose to jump in—prayer and fasting together. Just like the high dive at the pool - take the leap! Doing hard things changes everything!

Chapter 10 - The Answer is in the Church17 Jul 202500:22:11

This week, I am reviewing the final chapter of my book, reflecting on my journey from hustle to healing, and showing how spiritual fasting, the sacraments, and community offer a life-giving path back to joy.

Everything you’re searching for—peace, purpose, healing, clarity—even weightloss—is already available to you in the Catholic Church.

But you have to slow down to receive it.

This episode invites you to return not only to spiritual fasting but to the sacraments, community, and a compassionate rhythm of life.

There is a balance between being a “Martha” and a “Mary,” which encourages us to shift toward stillness, presence, and sacramental living as the path to lasting transformation.

Chapter 9 - Vice or Virtue - What’s Really Driving Your Hunger?10 Jul 202500:33:59

Have you ever reached for food—not out of hunger—but out of habit, stress, or the hope of feeling just a little better?

If so, you're not alone. In fact, you may be caught in what I call The Vice Cycle—a pattern driven by sugar, overdesire, and the false promises of quick comfort.

This week’s episode is based on Chapter 9 of my book, Delay and Pray®, and it's one of the most important episodes yet.

We’re talking about how dopamine is tricking your brain, why cravings feel so urgent (and what to do instead), the difference between overhunger and true hunger, and how to step from the Vice Cycle into the Virtue Cycle, where peace and purpose live.

You were made for more than short-term comfort. You were made for lasting freedom.

Chapter 8 - Feasting on Life03 Jul 202500:20:01

As we celebrate the 4th of July, let's remember that true freedom isn't just found in fireworks and barbecues, but in feasting on the beauty of life with a heart rooted in gratitude.

Today, we’re talking about Chapter 8 of my Delay and Pray® book, a chapter that's all about one of the most joyful and misunderstood parts of our fasting rhythm: the feast.

We'll walk through the Eat Fast Feast cycle and consider a new mindset around feast days. Instead of binging or using food to numb emotions, true feasting becomes a deliberate, sacramental, moderate, and joyful act of honoring God.

I encourage you to embrace the true freedom found in Christ - the freedom to enjoy food without being enslaved by it.

Chapter 7 - Too Much Sugar26 Jun 202500:20:29

I am a woman on a mission to help you trade sugar for sanctity, one bite and one prayer at a time.

Today, we’re diving into Chapter 7 of the Delay and Pray® book - and if I could title this episode anything else, it might be “Your Gut Is Not Just a Place for Digestion - It’s a Sacred Space.”

Because here’s the truth: our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and how we treat them matters. And in today’s culture, that sacred space is under attack … from the inside out.

Sugar will never satisfy. But the abundant life of Jesus will. This week’s episode might just change how you think about digestion, donuts, and what it means to truly “glorify God in your body” (1 Cor 6:19-20).

Chapter 6 - Dining In With Jesus19 Jun 202500:33:35

Today is all about imagining yourself at the dinner table with Jesus. What is being served?

The body of Jesus and your body. Really - that is what we will concentrate on in today’s episode and Chapter 6 of my book, Delay and Pray®.

I am inviting you to dinner - but not in the way you might expect. We’re talking about what I call “Dining In with Jesus.”

This is a powerful mindset and practice that will transform not only your body as you dine in on your fat stores but your soul, too, as you crave the Word of God and the Body of Christ in the Eucharist over eating anything else.

If you’ve ever struggled with intermittent fasting or felt like food had too much control in your life, this episode is for you.

Food is NOT My Best Friend Anymore with Teresa Villano27 Feb 202500:45:44

When you need comfort and love, do you turn to food? Do you find yourself worshipping food - almost unconsciously?

It reminds me of the Bible verse, "their god is their stomach" which appears in Philippians 3:19.

If you find yourself thinking about food all day long - from breakfast to lunch to dinner with snacks in between, then you are not alone. This week's guest is my client Teresa Villano, who joined the Delay and Pray® program a year ago and has been an active member since then.

She has been a Nurse Practitioner for 26 years and shares her experience with dieting and weight struggles. She has come a long way, once telling me:

Obesity kept me from seeing my potential sainthood and the true purpose of my life - serving the Lord, not my appetite. I have changed that now.

Hear how spiritual fasting helped her ditch 30 pounds, regain her faith, and make Jesus the best friend that she has always longed for.

The 3 M's of Delay and Pray®06 Feb 202500:36:23

Delay and Pray® has changed my life in so many ways for the better.

It is a method of spiritual fasting that helps you regain your spiritual edge and grow in virtue while becoming fit in both body and soul.

It isn’t a diet because it is centered on Christ and detachment from food and alcohol as comfort. God should be our comforter.

Today I discuss all of this in the context of the 3 M’s of Delay and Pray® that are so important to remember in driving incredible results in both body and soul and why overeating and overdrinking hinder your ability to both physically and spiritually fast.

Financial Freedom with Amanda Teixeira from WalletWin09 Jan 202500:39:28

As a Catholic Mindset Coach, I use a Thomistic Thought Model which teaches that your thoughts create your results. What I have found is that this is true about weight and also about money.

If you think you can't lose the weight and find food freedom even through Spiritual Fasting - you won't do it. If you think you'll never find financial freedom, then you'll never have it.

But if you can change your mindset about these things - invite Jesus into it and meld your will into His - then the sky is the limit and all of a sudden, food freedom and financial freedom are yours!

Amanda Teixeira from WalletWin is on the show to talk about money. She and her husband Jonathan founded WalletWin to provide Catholic financial freedom for the whole family.

Feasting During the Christmas Octave26 Dec 202400:15:30

Merry Christmas! We have made it through Advent and are now in the Christmas Octave, which extends the Christmas celebration from Christmas Day through New Year's Day - the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

The Christmas Octave is truly the time to rest and feast on friendship and family.

Remember feasting is not binge-eating. Eating to enough feels good and celebratory at the same time. Don't forget to binge on Sacraments, Activities, and Connection.

Today, I share a feasting plan to help us treat our body and soul as the gift that it is. Try redefining Feasting for yourself. Your life will change immensely.

The Vocation of Motherhood with Mary Cuff12 Sep 202400:33:53

Women can learn a lot about the vocation of motherhood from contemplative nuns. Whether a woman's vocation is to be a mother in the context of married life or the spiritual motherhood of religious life, both vocations have Our Lady as their source and inspiration.

Both vocations involve a life of sacrifice and humility.

Dr. Mary Cuff, author of Mother to Mother, shares how this book came about on today's episode. Her book introduces all moms to contemplative nuns who offer their insight into the common struggles of motherhood.

Through a question-and-answer format, these nuns from various monasteries give wisdom gained from their cloisters and offer it to mothers who are present in the domestic Church.

On Pilgrimage with Beth - Part 129 Aug 202400:33:50

It was a summer of pilgrimages! It began with an International Marian Shrine Pilgrimage and ended with a national pilgrimage for the Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, Indiana.

On the Pilgrimage of Hope, through Portugal, Spain, and France, our Catholic faith and sense of history were deepened as we studied the apparitions of the Blessed Mother and the footsteps of the Apostles and Saints.

We prayed, fasted, and wept at many tombs of great Saints. This is part 1 of a 2-part series, as there is so much I want to share with you about my experience on these pilgrimages.
