BluBlox

What brands of blue light blockers do we recommend? BluBlox is definitely a go to. The CEO Andy Mant on the show before where we got into a really deep dive on blue light. If you get any amount of blue light in your glasses, no matter if it’s 3%, 10%, it disrupts melatonin production. So Andy has created blue light blockers that hold up to the highest standards. And in fact, you can see he’s tested it versus other brands and that they always come out on top.

Quality matters.

Our sponsor for today’s show is one of the two brands of blue light blockers that I actually recommend using. I’ve had the CEO Matt Maruca on the show before and we got into a two-hour long discussion, which I think to this day is the longest episode of the Decoding Superhuman podcast. But his company raw optics has made blue light blockers sexy. And the beauty of their product is that blue light doesn’t get in. If any amount of blue light gets in, that Netflix show you’re watching late at night, that book that you’re reading on your iPad, that email that you’re answering, is disrupting your sleep.

So where do you get yours? Head over to raoptics.com plug in the code Boomer you’ll get 10% off your order.

Road Warrior Essentials 10 Sep 201900:59:55

Andreas Breitfeld discusses perpetual jetlag, life without hormones, and recovery from the road. As the Head of KTC Lab, Andreas created an incredible EMF-blocking travel pant to benefit road warriors worldwide.

Who is Andreas Breitfeld?

No question, traveling is fun and what better way to broaden your horizons than by traveling the world? If you want to get to know other people, cultures and other markets, you have to leave your home behind from time to time. When Andreas started his own business about 15 years ago with a PR and marketing agency, it was clear to me from the very beginning how important it was to be as close as possible to everything that was happening in my industry around the globe.

The concept worked and with the success of the agency, Andreas' travel volume increased as well. In some years, Andreas visited the USA, Canada, China and South Korea more often than France or Italy in his entire life.

At some point, Andreas realized that adapting to new time zones was harder and harder. He had massive problems recovering at all. Increasing sleep problems, food intolerances, heavy metal poisoning, leaky gut, too much cortisol at first, then probably no cortisol at all at some point - his lifestyle took its toll.

Andreas' travel problems peaked parallel to the introduction of the Skynet, i.e. the wireless networks in the airplane. Andreas sat one day in Thailand at the beach and had to admit to himself that, despite the success, he was physically and increasingly mentally completely down.

Andreas began to do research and was amazed at much of the knowledge he gained. And he realized that he needed help.

Luckily Andreas found understanding, the right support and the way (back) to biohacking. This already fascinated him as the first fitness editor of Shape magazine. As in the past, it fascinates Andreas not only to understand things theoretically, but also to try them out in practice. Thanks to a happy combination of perseverance and willingness to take risks, Andreas managed to get back to his starting point within nine months.

As Head of the Lab at KTC LAB, Andreas sees it as his task to collect and pass on knowledge, experiences, and tips on the subject of "safer and better travel". In addition, Andreas is pleased that through and together with KTC Unlimited he have the opportunity to develop textile solutions for a wide variety of biohacks. KTC Lab is currently working on the completion of a collection that will not only enable frequent flyers to shield their bodies from additional stressors such as EMFs. KTC Lab is also exploring strategies to accelerate regeneration and provide all the tools to meet the challenges of an active, global lifestyle.

Blue Cannatine

One of my favorite tools for cognitive enhancement, especially after long plan rides, is Blue Cannatine. The delivery mechanism is unique (buccle troche). It is especially effective for me on improving short-term memory, focus, and verbal fluency.

It’s the closest thing that I found to NZT and I think you guys should try it out. Get yours at troscriptions.com and don’t forget to plug in the code BOOMER for 10% OFF your order.

Full disclosure: I am involved with the company (I like the product that much).

Biocharged

Charged Ozonated Oil supports your body on a cellular level by introducing ozonides which cause a hormetic response to supercharge your body’s mitochondria at a fast rate. Head over to https://biocharged.co/ and check out their product Biocharged Resistor. They have it available on subscription, one-time purchases, and I think it's worth trying, especially if you have gut health or immune system issues. With the Resistor, you get all of the effects of ozone therapy without really having to go to your local center.

Sleep Optimization for those with Little Time with Dr. Kirk Parsley23 Jul 201901:20:17

Dr. Kirk Parsley is a former SEAL, served as the Undersea Medical Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group One from June 2009 to January 2013. Dr. Parsley shares his insights on how to optimize sleep as a high performing professional, using peptides, hormones, and the issues with sleep deprivation.

Who is Doc Parsley?

Kirk Parsley served as an Undersea Medical Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group One from June 2009 to January 2013. While there, he led the development and supervised the group’s first Sports Medicine Rehabilitation center. He is a former SEAL and received his Medical Degree from Bethesda, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in 2004. He interned in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Balboa Naval Hospital San Diego in 2005 and subsequently completed a Navy residency in Hyperbarics and Diving Medicine in 2006.

Doctor Parsley has been a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine since 2006 and served as Naval Special Warfare’s expert on Sleep Medicine. In addition, he is certified in hormonal modulation (Age-Management Medicine). After leaving the Navy he went into concierge medicine and consulting. He continues to consult for multiple corporations, and professional athletes/teams. Doctor Parsley lectures worldwide on sleep, wellness, and hormonal optimization and is currently completing a book on sleep and health optimization.

His philosophy for wellness is simple; in order to optimize our health and get the most out of our bodies and minds, we must live more closely to the way we evolved as a species. He believes that many diseases and disorders that we accept as “inevitable” in modern society are unnecessary complications of poor sleeping habits, living in a toxic environment, eating foods we were not designed to digest, and allowing stress to overwhelm us. His passion is to help his patients and clients achieve the highest quality of life possible, and realize their health, performance, and longevity goals.

Dr. Parsley spends as much of his spare time as possible with his three beautiful children (Hayden, Cole, and Harper). He has been a competitive athlete his entire life and enjoys nearly all outdoor activities and sports.

  • [3:00] The financial crisis, quicksand, and stress resilience

The sponsor for this episode is the ring on my finger. No, I’m not married yet. And frankly, before that ring, I hated wearing rings. But I must say the guys at Oura have done a great job.

The ring allows me to track all sorts of crazy things about my sleep, including my resting heart rate, my deep sleep stages, my REM sleep, etc, etc. I really enjoy the feedback and allows me to make lifestyle decisions to become a higher performer.

Let me give you an example. So prior to getting the ordering, I would fast essentially 16 hours after my last meal. It didn’t matter when that last meal was. However, when I look at my resting heart rate, and how that really correlates to my performance The next day, I know I want my lowest resting heart rate coming as soon as possible after going to sleep because that’s when all my recovery really starts.

So what did I do? Well, it allowed me to adjust really when my last meal was before going to bed. So I have my last meal. Now, earlier in the night, I get better sleep, I get higher quality sleep. And I must say the next day feels amazing. So if you want to check out the Oura Ring and if you want to pick one up yourself, go to Oura's website.

Eliminate Jet Lag for Good with Jari Koponen21 May 201900:57:37

Can one device eliminate your jet lag forever? Jari Koponen discusses the value of the Human Charger in battling the winter blues and jet lag.

Who is Jari Koponen?

Jari Koponen is a Brand Ambassador of HumanCharger.

Before joining HumanCharger in 2014, Jari spent more than a decade in different roles in the automation industry delivering and taking care of systems in the mining sector. After that, between 2012 and 2014, he was full time at home with kids.

While Jari very much enjoyed the global mining business, it was the constant long haul traveling that eventually motivated Jari to change the direction of his career.

For a period of time, the opportunity to travel the world and to visit exotic mines (gold, copper, platinum, and others) in some of the most remote places on earth felt like a privilege for Jari but eventually the almost never-ending jet-lag and long stretches away from home was not worth the effort.

Nevertheless, it was that first hand experience with the jet lag that connected Jari with the HumanCharger.

When Jari had an opportunity to use the HumanCharger in 2013, while travelling cross 9 time zones, his experience with that "strange device" was so positive (he felt hardly any jet lag!) that after the trip, Jari made it clear to the HumanCharger team that he wants to join them and go out to tell everyone what an amazing device HumanCharger is. And since then Jari has been on mission!

In his role at HumanCharger, Jari is responsible of the marketing efforts (among other things) and you can find him for example at HumanCharger booth at conferences around the world.

Jari has a Master of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology (today Aalto University, Finland) and MBA from Helsinki School of Economics (also today Aalto University).

Jari lives in Switzerland with his wife, two kids and a puppy.

Highlights

  • [5:32] How big is the winter blues issue?
  • [8:05] Winters in Finland
  • [12:35] The origins of Valkee
  • [13:45] How does the Human Charger work?
  • [20:33] The significance of 12 minutes
  • [23:24] Why shine lights in your ears? The role of opsin
  • [33:08] UVB light
  • [37:30] Tackling jet lag
