29. 5 Key Takeaways on Set Point Weight28 Mar 202200:15:30

In today’s solo episode I am covering everything you need to know about set point weight theory. I have gotten so many questions and interests about the set point weight theory, and while I talk about this in my online 12 week program, I wanted to cover it a little bit more for you in the podcast.

Personally, I don't love to talk about weight because I think weighing yourself on a scale isn't very helpful, and it’s just another superficial way to try and feel happy. In any case, our bodies do have a weight, but that number is going to look different from person to person, so I wanted to give you five key takeaways today about set point weight theory so that you can understand it a little better.

 In this episode, we cover:

  • Stable set point weight is healthier than yo-yo-ing [2:10]
  • Letting go of control over your weight actually keeps your weight more stable [3:40]
  • It can take several months for your body to recover from extreme dieting [6:31]
  • Set point weight is a range [8:23]
  • Listen to your body and forget about the scale [11:47]

20. My Birth Story + Your Questions Answered20 Dec 202100:47:35
For those of you who have been following me on my journey, I finally gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Harper, 7lbs and 10 ounces born on November 15 after spending 40 weeks and 3 days in my belly. I was flooded with questions in my DM’s about my experience of giving birth and I want to sit down and answer as many questions as I can. I also have a blog post up with all the details.    During today’s episode, I talk about my birth story with my husband Zack! I have always been open with you guys and sharing my experience with pregnancy and giving birth is definitely something I want to do. I cover everything from having to schedule an induction (which does NOT make you a failure) and allowing my body to do what it needs to do, what my hospital experience was like and why it felt nice to labour while I was sitting on the toilet.    I honestly had no idea what to expect going into labour (despite reading some things online), however I hope you find this podcast episode as well as blog post a source of education that will help you learn more about what you might expect during pregnancy. For me my contractions happened so quickly, it felt like one second I was checking into the hospital and the next moment I was in a lot of pain (it was worth it though). Everyone’s birth story is different and at the end of the day you are a rockstar for giving birth no matter your birth story!    In this episode, we cover:
  • Leading up to the birth: dealing with a scheduled induction and trying to listen to my body [2:04]
  • Checking into the hospital, preparing my body for birth and taking Pitocin [6:54]
  • Dilation, dealing with contractions and getting an epidural: everything moves really quickly [13:27]
  • What labour actually feels like and getting ready for the actual birthing part [20:02]
  • Time to start pushing: trying to remain calm, feeling scared and baby’s heart rate dropping [28:09]
  • Our lives are forever changed [37:03]
  • Answering questions from our DMs [43:13]

Pregnancy is a rollercoaster, both pre and postpartum. Motherhood is a journey, and the body is truly so resilient. The body is going to change and it evolves as it needs to and being in the present moment, learning to accept with grace all the changes we face, as mentioned by today’s guest, will be the most rewarding thing for you to do.

18. Weight Training, Rest Days, and Wedding Pressure from a Non-Diet Personal Trainer06 Dec 202100:43:11

For some, the gym can be a scary place, let alone working with a personal trainer. Either from experience or hearing other people's anecdotes, it seems like personal trainers only focus on fat loss and that is it. Often, these trainers may not have good relationships with their own bodies and with food, and they're projecting that onto their clients. What does the alternative look like?

In today’s episode, I talk to Kira Onysko, a non-diet focused personal trainer. She helps her clients reach their fitness goals, stay more consistent, increase their motivation, without an emphasis on their weight loss and body from an outward aesthetic perspective.

During our conversation, Kira shares why fitness trainers' language causes more damage than they think when it comes to their clients fitness goals, why health is more than what you eat (that pizza slice is nothing to feel guilty over),  and learning to ditch the toxic mindset around fitness. As a recent newlywed Kira also shares her journey of preparing for a wedding without the stress of needing to be in a certain size.

In this episode, we cover:

  • What is a non-diet personal trainer and  language to avoid when it comes to focusing on clients health and fitness goals [3:47]
  • Ditching the common “trainer” mentality [9:44]
  • Embracing the benefits of rest days rather than focus on exercise as a means to change your body [11:46]
  • Learn to enjoy exercise and do workouts that you like doing not what you think you should be doing [20:13]
  • How Kira prepared her body and mind for a wedding without stressing [22:52]
  • Balancing your workout routine and tips for getting into weight training [29:26]
  • Kira shares advice on diet, weddings and fitness [37:20]
