| Dangerous Conversations Episode #26: The Last Battle of Atlanta (Rich vs. Sawyer) | 30 Jan 2025 | 01:15:15 | |
If you were a fan of Georgia Championship Wrestling in the early 80s, there was no feud more talked about or more memorable than Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer. As most folks know, this feud came to a head in a famous steel cage match that would be known as the "Last Battle of Atlanta". The match is memorable for many reasons. One of the reasons is the cage itself, it was unique in the fact that it was a steel cage that also had a chain link top that would go on to inspire the WWE's HELL IN A CELL cage years later. It's also famous because for decades it was believed that no footage of this match existed, it was the holy grail of the pro wrestling tape traders from the VHS days into the DVD days. But mostly it was memorable because it was an exclamation point on a violent and bloody feud that lasted over two years. This week, Doug & Tommy discuss the feud with Buzz Sawyer and everything that led up to it, the match itself, and even a few things you may not remember that happened after it. Check it out! | Dangerous Conversations Episode #4: Remembering SID! | 29 Aug 2024 | 01:10:11
It's Episode #4 of Dangerous Conversations with Doug Gilbert and this week we had planned to talk about Bill Watts' UWF, but we're going to put that off until a later date... and instead we're going to spend this episode allowing Doug to share some of his favorite memories of he and Eddie's good friend, Sid Eudy. While most fans only know Sid as the "Master & Ruler of the World" and a main event superstar in professional wrestling, there's another side of him that most have never gotten a chance to see. Doug spends some time here sharing stories of the man he's known as a loyal friend to him and his family inside and outside the wrestling business for over 36 years. From the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis to main events at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and back again, Sid was always the same humble family man that Doug met all those years ago. We hope everyone enjoys this episode and it manages to shed some light on Sid Eudy, the real man behind the "monster" on television. | Dangerous Conversations Episode #2: "That Was Fake, Man!" | 15 Aug 2024 | 01:11:00
It's Episode #2 of Dangerous Conversations with Doug Gilbert, and this week we talk to Doug about one of the wildest episodes of USWA Championship Wrestling that ever aired, from beginning to end! It's the January 13, 1996 episode and it features two title changes, heel turns, a face turn, and it all centers around Doug Gilbert, Tommy Rich, and Jerry 'the King' Lawler! The episode featured what was a pretty surreal promo at the time between Doug and the King (and eventually Tommy Rich). We listen to the whole promo and then Doug breaks it down in detail as far as what was said before, during, and after the promo and what the intent behind it was. The promo was unique for the time period and pretty shocking... and this marks the first time it has ever been discussed in detail.. anywhere! Doug also answers a fan question concerning Smoky Mountain Wrestling to round out the episode! https://youtu.be/HJnTOPjc29Q?si=fK53SAVegrPBY6jE
