Yellowjackets - Season 1 Episode 1020 Mar 202301:27:15

This Time on Damn Fine TV…

We’re slo-mo strutting into “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi” aka the season 1 finale of Yellowjackets. As we do, we’re taking time to side-eye just about everyone. Misty is sus, Tai is sus, Lottie is super sus, hell, even that bear was kinda sus. We don’t know who to trust anymore! One thing we do know, though: Jackie absolutely wouldn’t have wanted any of this. Justice for Jackie! (Just-ice for Jackie?!) Oh, and also, Word Definition .net defines a finale as: the final time we see Allie - and we’re praying to the ancient Gods of sky and dirt for that to be so.

Thanks for watching our season 1 coverage! We’ll see you soon for season 2!

Yellowjackets - Season 1 Episode 913 Mar 202301:27:40

This Time on Damn Fine TV…

We’re getting all dolled (and dosed) up for Doomcoming, with very special guest Abbie Darling! Join us as we drink rotten berries and sing along to Kiss From A Rose. As we caw-caw at the Full Moon, and contemplate a possibly demonic presence in the Canadian wilderness. The more the merrier, apparently, as a sudden influx of girls we’ve never ever seen before has us wondering, are we the mushrooms? Plus, we hate to break it to you, but there is NO book club.

You can join a pretty cool club of people that own a custom piece of jewellery or upcycled clothing from the fabulous Abbie Darling. Check her out in all the places at the links below!

Yellowjackets - Season 1 Episode 119 Dec 202201:50:36

This time on Damn Fine TV...

We're kicking off our Yellowjackets season 1 rewatch! We are buzzing with anticipation for season 2, and figured we all could use a little refresher on what's already happened. Spoilers are inevitable, so if you're new to the hive, listen at your own risk!

A video version of this podcast is available on Spotify. It was first created back in early 2022 for our Bookhouse Babe Patrons. It was before we had a better handle on audio for Zoom, so J's track may not have the quality you're used to, apologies!

Twin Peaks Season One: Zen, or the Skill to Catch a Killer 10 Mar 202101:39:56

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

It’s time for a little Tibetan Rock Throwing, as we cover the third episode of Twin Peaks season one. To help us tackle this iconic hour of the show, we welcome the one and only Coral from @wholesomepeaks !

Coral highlights some wholesome moments from the episode, we finally find out if she’s a James girl or a Bobby girl - you’ll NEVER guess the answer! - and we also get sidetracked for a few minutes debating over who the better Donna is.

Plus, we’ve got a packed spoiler section this week. Among other things, we chat about our love for The Return.

Twin Peaks Season One: Traces to Nowhere03 Mar 202101:40:23

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

We’re breaking down the second episode of Twin Peaks: Traces to Nowhere, and we invited a couple of fellow Peaks Freaks to help us out - Michael and Dave from @the_center_cut !

Okay, so Dave might be less the Freak and more the “I liked it more than I thought I would” type, but, you know, we made it work. Even though his feelings on the Log Lady are highly questionable, he disliked James as much as we do, so he’s alright in our books.

Michael has some great fish-in-the-percolator theories, and he even sticks around for the spoiler section to chat about some fun connections between season one and season three.

If you’ve never seen Twin Peaks before, don’t worry about getting spoiled, as we’ll be saving any discussion of future events for the very ends of our episodes.

Twin Peaks Season One: Pilot24 Feb 202101:41:14

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

Our long awaited return to Twin Peaks has finally arrived! It was hard not to just fangirl for 90 minutes - we’ve been deprived of good TV for too long - but we managed to reel ourselves in (for the most part) and give this episode the treatment it deserves.

We ask a lot of big questions this week, like: if everyone in the town you live in is cheating on their partner, does it really count as cheating? Why is Josie the first character we see? Just how big is James’ forehead? (Mells would say it’s a TENhead.) And, perhaps most importantly, are you a James or a Bobby girl? (Hint: there is only one right answer.)

If you’ve never seen Twin Peaks before, don’t worry about getting spoiled, as we’ll be saving any discussion of future events for the very ends of our episodes.

The Stand: Episodes 8 & 917 Feb 202101:19:54

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

That’s a wrap on The Stand, and, honestly, good riddance. Turns out, not all books are meant to be adapted, and this is one of them. I guess we’ll always have Alexander Skarsgard’s butt...

Before we rip into the final two episodes of The Stank - I mean, The Stand - we spend some time ripping into problematic, abusive men in the entertainment industry. Specifically: Justin Timberlake and his half-hearted “apology” to Britney, and the recent statement Charisma Carpenter gave about Joss Whedon’s abhorrent behaviour on the set of Buffy.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4: Episodes 7 & 810 Feb 202101:12:10

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

That’s a wrap on Chilling Adventures! There are no more spells to cast, no more magical twists to be turned, and all the Tardigrade Mysteries have been solved. It’s time to bid Sabrina and the gang farewell.

It’s a very bittersweet ending for a show that was never perfect, but was always fun to talk about. In the end, we think CAOS made all the right moves in these final two episodes - it left us wanting more, which is a great way to go out.

The Stand: Episodes 6 & 703 Feb 202101:29:53

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

We talk about how awful socks are; just pull your leggings over that foot hump! We wonder if TikTok is a safe place for 40 year old Moms - and throw a bit of shade at the youngins. And we ask some tough questions: Backstreet Boys or N’Sync?

Oh, and we also talk about The Stand, episodes 6 and 7, but that’s really just a sidebar. Here are the highlights: they did Trashy dirty. Flagg and Nadine are the best kind of dirty. Kojak is a good boy.

Next Week: CAOS Episodes 7 & 8

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4: Episodes 4-627 Jan 202101:19:06

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

Please join our very special guests, Megs and Jaclyn, who stepped in to help us cover Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Part 4, episodes 4-6.

JUST KIDDING. It’s us! It’s Mells and Jasmin! Bet we fooled you with our incredible disguises!

What is even happening on this damn show?! These three episodes were all over the place, and though there were a handful of things to like, even love, episode 6 in particular really brought the season’s average down.

Here’s hoping that was The Fright Club’s grand finale and that the final two episodes close the series in the best way possible.

The Stand: Episodes 4 & 520 Jan 202101:35:45

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

We’re tackling episodes 4 and 5 of The Stand. Who thought 9 hours was enough time to adapt the epic saga that is this novel? How do they sleep at night? Did they get a lump of coal for Christmas? We are stumped by so many of the strange adaptive choices in these episodes, and we continue to wonder what the experience must be like for those who haven’t read the book. If that’s you - do you understand what’s going on? Do you care about the characters? Let us know!

Even through our frustrations, we can admit that there was also a lot of great stuff  in these episodes - Owen Teague is incredible, for one - and we’re still looking forward to what’s to come. Just stop getting it wrong, CBS, okay?

Thanks.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4: Episodes 1-313 Jan 202101:25:35

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

We’ve prepared our altars, we’ve cast our circles, and our wands are at the ready - we’re here to cover Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4 and solve these damned Tardigrade Mysteries once and for all!

Come join us as we discuss episodes 1, 2, and 3 of CAOS’ fourth and final season, which, to our delight, has started off in quite stellar fashion. Yes, there are still the same old “Sabrina problems” but so far, this season has us praising Hecate for all its greatness.

Looking for our coverage of The Stand? We’ll be back next week with our thoughts on episodes 4 and 5, so stay tuned!

The Stand: Episodes 2 & 306 Jan 202101:29:04

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

You can all stop licking your jail cell bars and having your planchette-induced wet dreams, because we are back with more coverage of The Stand! This week, episodes 2 and 3 are in the spotlight. They were both a bit of a mixed bag, and so we have some very mixed feelings about them. One thing we absolutely agree on? Offering someone a million dollars in the apocalypse is just downright stupid. Oh, and Alexander Skarsgard is perfect as Randall Flagg!

Just a reminder that, next week we’ll be chatting about the final season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and then we’ll return to our coverage of The Stand the following week. From there, we’ll be rotating back and forth until we finish both shows.

The Walking Dead - Series Finale12 Dec 202200:19:41

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast ...

What a wild ride, a long journey, a rocky road, you know all the travel references it's been with The Walking Dead. We are sadly at the end of the road (did you sing that in the Boyz II Men way?) with this television series and Mells has thoughts. This time it's not just about Daryl (but isn't it always about Daryl?), she provides her insight into the finale along with some controversial yet brave takes on a few of the character arcs throughout the way.  Did you watch the finale?

Do you watch The Walking Dead? Did you cry? Tell us more, tell us more!

Best TV of 2020 - Part Three30 Dec 202001:19:59

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

It’s our third and final episode of the Best TV in 2020 series, and joining us to help wrap things up is the one, the only, Mike from the Wack Brackets podcast!

Before we get into our picks for the best shows of the year, Mike tells us about his first-ever fave TV show, which prompts Mells to reveal a shocking (and hilarious, in fact, it’s mostly just funny) truth - you won’t want to miss it! Plus, we also get into a discussion about a few shows that paved the way for the Golden Age of Television and beyond.

If you’re not already following Mike over @wackbrackets there’s no time like the present! And be sure to check out his podcast - if you’re looking for an episode to start with, might I suggest episode 22, featuring DFTV?! The Stand: Episode One23 Dec 202001:19:09

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast…

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Best TV in 2020 series, to bring you coverage of THE STAND episode one!! There was no way we could wait until January to start talking about this show, and Jasmin’s plan to cover 3 episodes at once was, perhaps, a little too ambitious.

If you do not want to be spoiled on the book (or the TV show, though I think that goes without saying?) you may want to skip our coverage until you’ve had time to read it! Mells isn’t telling us everything about the novel, but she’s not holding back, either. Listen at your own risk!

Before we dive into our thoughts on the premiere episode, we chat a bit about the holidays and our favourite holiday movies - yes, movies, not TV! What are your must-see holiday movies? More importantly, what kind of lights do you put on your tree? MOST importantly, what did you think of The Stand, episode one?

Next Week: We’re away for the next two weeks - apologies to our Damn Fine Listeners! Submitted for the approval of our Damn Fine Listeners…

It’s our first ever bonus episode!

Come join us as we chat about the classic Canadian horror anthology series, Are You Afraid of the Dark? We watched “The Tale of the Frozen Ghost” and “The Tale of the Nightly Neighbours” and we had a lot of thoughts!

And if you can’t get enough of us, or AYAOTD? then come join us this afternoon, 1pm PST and 4pm EST on Instagram Live! We’ll be chatting about The Tale of the Super Specs and The Tale of the Dollmaker. Hope to see you there!

Jasmin and Mells kick the episode off with discussions about Canadian Thanksgiving, time travel, Halloween costumes, and DIY haircuts. Then, we get into our main event: The Haunting of Bly Manor, episodes 1-4.

The Watcher/Chucky - Minisode05 Dec 202200:23:11

This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast ...

It's Mells Minisode #2 as we dive into Chucky Season 1 and The Watcher. What do they have in common? Nothing! But Mells is determined to give you her thoughts on both this week as we combine a little bit of horror from two very different extremes on what we're affectionately calling Watchucky!

Season 2 of Chucky has finally wrapped, so be on the lookout for more on that potentially, but who doesn't want a murderous doll for the holidays?! Not us!

Speaking of, do you want a murderous house? Ok that may be a little extreme, but Netflix's The Watcher really gave us a scare!

Have you watched either of these? What are your thoughts?

Ratched (part two) & Lovecraft Country30 Sep 202001:14:39

We also get into some TV news, discussing premiere dates and cancellations. We chat about the underrated anthology series Room 104, with a focus on the episode "Jimmy and Gianni" that really threw Jasmin for a loop. Then we get into some TV news about a couple of upcoming shows - The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Stand - and we take a little trip to the Bread Barbershop. Mells is FINALLY watching Dark - we get into seasons one and two. Jasmin has FINALLY seen episode 2 of Watchmen - she shares her overall thoughts and gushes over Regina King. Lovecraft Country, Selling Sunset, I May Destroy You26 Aug 202000:57:45
This week on the show, we talk about the fires on the west coast (hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!), vacation hangovers, and the cancellation of a Netflix show we're pretty bummed about. Then we discuss a couple of shows we've been watching recently - Selling Sunset and I May Destroy You - before getting into the main event: Lovecraft Country. We are both super pumped about the premiere of this show and cannot wait to see where the season takes us. Yes, we realize episode 2 has already aired at this point, but due to our recording schedule, we'll always be a week behind. Oh well, just pretend you get to time travel to the past each week when listening to the show! 9:00 - Selling Sunset 16:05 - I May Destroy You 23:25 - Lovecraft Country Want us to discuss a certain show or TV related topic on an upcoming episode? Twin Peaks: Final Thoughts...for now28 Jul 202001:31:30
This week on Twin Peaks Tuesdays, Mells and I bid farewell (for now) to our beloved Twin Peaks. We do our best to summarize our journey through watching and reviewing the show, while freely admitting that it truly is something you just have to experience, and words often fail to do it justice. Still, we give it our all in the theories section, and then essentially throw all those theories out the window, by making the argument that plot just isn't as important as vibe and atmosphere in Twin Peaks. Almost any theory about what this show "means" is correct and that's the way we like it! We also discuss our thoughts on what a possible season four of Twin Peaks could look like. Finally, we explore some ideas on how to keep Twin Peaks a part of the DFTV pod moving forward, like with themed episodes centering on topics like: dreams, Tarot, coolness (re: James Hurley), nostalgia, color palette and more! Apologies for the scratchiness on Jasmin's mic; not sure what happened and hope it's not too annoying! Don't forget, we'll be on break for the next two weeks, and will return with our Weekly Watch pod on August 19. See you then! Until next time, here's where you can come hang with us... The Walking Dead - Daryl Dixon Minisode28 Nov 202200:32:01
This week on the Damn Fine TV podcast… We have a special treat in store for everyone! As The Walking Dead wraps up, we bring to you the very first Mells Minisode. This week we are talking about Daryl Dixon. Why do women love him? Why do walkers fear him? Why does this character have plot armor so thick it’s impenetrable? Daryl is definitely a complex character and an important part of The Walking Dead story and all the Dixon phenomenon couldn’t have been predicted when he was added as a secondary character to the story in episode one. Are you watching The Walking Dead? Will you be tuning into these final episodes? Are you interested in any of the spinoffs coming your way? Let us know!
Twin Peaks The Return: Parts Fifteen & Sixteen07 Jul 202001:43:21
This week on Twin Peaks Tuesdays, it's the beginning of the end. Bittersweet is a word we used a lot to describe these episodes. Some characters are finally getting their happily ever after, but at the cost of 25 years spent apart. We say our final goodbye to someone very special, and though it's an absolutely beautiful tribute, it means never seeing them again. Other characters are reawakened or awakening for the first time, and as exciting as it all truly is, we can't help but think about there only being 2 episodes left! So, go grab a damn fine coffee and meet us in the red room! Until next time, here's where you can come hang with us... Twin Peaks The Return: Parts Thirteen & Fourteen30 Jun 202001:48:06
This week on Twin Peaks Tuesdays, we discuss the many ways in which Twin Peaks challenges our emotional outlook on certain topics - like cheering for the bad guy when he's up against other bad guys, how nostalgia can make you like bad songs, and why the simple act of packing sandwiches for a trip to the woods can carry so much weight. We also talk about how Twin Peaks continues to masterfully create such a porous space between dreams and waking life. Plus, we definitely know a lot about crimes and gangs, and we prove it...jk. So, go grab a damn fine coffee, or a nice Bordeaux, and meet us in the red room! Until next time, here's where you can come hang with us... Twin Peaks The Return: Parts Eleven & Twelve23 Jun 202001:41:18
This week on the show we're talking all about secret codes, nostalgia and fan service, the sad and scary realities for Sarah Palmer and Audrey Horne, the importance of dreams, and, once again, the fact that Bobby Briggs could absolutely, 100% get it. (Get your shit together, Shelly.) We've decided to deputize ourselves into the Blue Rose Task Force - I mean, that's how that works, right? - so, go grab a damn fine coffee, or a nice Bordeaux, and meet us in the red room! Twin Peaks The Return: Parts Nine & Ten16 Jun 202001:41:19
This week on Twin Peaks Tuesdays, we're covering Parts Nine and Ten. These episodes feel a like a bit of a shaky landing after the wild ride of Part Eight; Gotta Light is one hell of a tough act to follow. These may not be our favourite episodes, but they've still got some incredible moments - Bill Hastings! Holy shit! Matthew Lillard is SO underrated - and a ton of plot development that gets us excited for what's to come - just what in the hell is Diane up to with those texts?? And, of course, we're so here for Constance and Albert, and we loved getting another beautiful monologue from the Log Lady. So, go grab a damn fine coffee and meet us in the red room! Twin Peaks The Return: Parts Five & Six02 Jun 202001:45:47
This week on Twin Peaks Tuesdays, we're covering Season Three, Parts Five & Six. There was a lot to break down in these episodes; our case files were absolutely packed with scribbles and doodles to make sense of! Mells shares some damn fine theories on Richard Horne's parentage and the clues that Hawk found. Jasmin is obsessed with the use of colours and all the echoes - what do they mean?! And the damn fine duo is pleased as punch to finally meet Diane. It's a yrev, very good time. So, so grab a damn fine coffee and meet us in the red room! And, could Bobby Briggs get it? (Spoiler...yes, yes he could.) Plus, Mells shares her own Mrs. Jackpots story from a trip to Vegas! Grab a damn fine coffee and meet us in the red room! On this episode of the Weekly Watch, Mells and Jasmin wrap their coverage of Westworld season three, before diving into Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and The Missing Pieces. Weekly Watch: Major Briggs Meets a Horse02 May 202001:17:52
On this episode of the Weekly Watch...Mells and Jasmin aren't feeling the penultimate episode of Westworld season three - like, what is even real and worth an emotional investment on this show? And if you can't tell, does it matter? Still, at least the show looks pretty! With the bad news out of the way, these Queens of the small screen turn their attention to the last run of episodes from Twin Peaks season 2. As always, there's a lot happening in this small, coffee-loving town. The supernatural elements and horror really heat up, new loves are formed and old loves are lost, but, most importantly Major Briggs meets a horse. Weekly Watch: What Genre is Twin Peaks?19 Apr 202001:51:03
On this episode of The Weekly Watch - or should that be, The Peakly Watch? - Mells and Jasmin are diving into the first half of Twin Peaks season 2. There's SO much to discuss: Cooper meets The Giant! Donna smokes now! The owls are not what they seem! Laura's murderer is revealed! And it's been less than 2 weeks since the events of the pilot! Then, these Queens of the small screen turn the dial to Westworld, season three episode five, "Genre." Mells and Jasmin both dig the plot and overall themes of the episode, but are still having trouble making an emotional investment. There are still so many questions left to answer and only three episodes left! Will this all turn out to be a simulation? Or is there something else afoot? Go grab a cup of damn fine coffee, or, if you're so inclined, some Genre, and meet us in the red room! On this episode of The Weekly Watch: it's finally happened, the Damn Fine TV podcast is finally covering the show that inspired its name, the one, the only...Twin Peaks! Mells and Jasmin dish on the entire first season of the show that turned 30 years old this week. It's Mells' first time watching, so she has plenty of (great) questions and theories, and Jasmin addresses them while giving her best Dolores - otherwise known as avoiding the question almost entirely. And speaking of Dolores...the Damn Fine duo cap the episode off with a deep dive into Westworld Season 3 Episode 4, and they are truly entertaining ALL theories at this point - nothing is off the Mortician's table now.
