Wadahans, Third Mehla:
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਜਜਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਆਏ ॥
eih sareer jajaree hai is no jar pahuchai aae ||
This body is frail; old age is overtaking it.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur raakhe se aubare hor mar ja(n)mai aavai jaae ||
Those who are protected by the Guru are saved, while others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going.
hor mar ja(n)meh aaveh jaaveh a(n)t ge pachhutaaveh bin naavai sukh na hoiee ||
Others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going, and in the end, they depart regretfully. Without the Name, there is no peace.
aaithai kamaavai so fal paavai manamukh hai pat khoiee ||
As one acts here, so does he obtain his rewards; the self-willed manmukh loses his honor.
jam pur ghor a(n)dhaar mahaa gubaar naa tithai bhain na bhaiee ||
In the City of Death, there is pitch darkness, and huge clouds of dust; neither sister nor brother is there.
eih sareer jajaree hai is no jar pahuchai aaiee ||1||
This body is frail; old age is overtaking it. ||1||
kaiaa ka(n)chan taa(n) theeaai jaa(n) satigur le milaae ||
The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself.
bhram maiaa vichahu kaTeeaai sachaRai naam samaae ||
Doubt and Maya have been removed from within me, and I am merged in the Naam, the True Name of the Lord.
sachai naam samaae har gun gaae mil preetam sukh paae ||
Merged in the True Name of the Lord, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; meeting my Beloved, I have found peace.
sadhaa ana(n)dh rahai dhin raatee vichahu ha(n)aumai jaae ||
I am in constant bliss, day and night; egotism has been dispelled from within me.
jinee purakhee har naam chit laiaa tin kai ha(n)au laagau paae ||
I fall at the feet of those who enshrine the Naam within their consciousness.
kaa(n)iaa ka(n)chan taa(n) theeaai jaa satigur le milaae ||2||
The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself. ||2||
so sachaa sach salaaheeaai je satigur dhei bujhaae ||
We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding.
bin satigur bharam bhulaaneeaa kiaa muh dhesan aagai jaae ||
Without the True Guru, they are deluded by doubt; going to the world hereafter, what face will they display?
kiaa dhen muh jaae avagun pachhutaae dhukho dhukh kamaae ||
What face will they show, when they go there? They will regret and repent for their sins; their actions will bring them only pain and suffering.
naam rateeaa se ra(n)g chaloolaa pir kai a(n)k samaae ||
Those who are imbued with the Naam are dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love; they merge into the Being of their Husband Lord.
tis jevadd avar na soojhiee kis aagai kaheeaai jaae ||
I can conceive of no other as great as the Lord; unto whom should I go and speak?
so sachaa sach salaaheeaai je satigur dhei bujhaae ||3||
We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding. ||3||
jinee sachaRaa sach salaahiaa ha(n)au tin laagau paae ||
I fall at the feet of those who praise the Truest of the True.
se jan sache niramale tin miliaa mal sabh jaae ||
Those humble beings are true, and immaculately pure; meeting them, all filth is washed off.
tin miliaa mal sabh jaae sachai sar naae sachai sahaj subhaae ||
Meeting them, all filth is washed off; bathing in the Pool of Truth, one becomes truthful, with intuitive ease.
naam nira(n)jan agam agochar satigur dheeaa bujhaae ||
The True Guru has given me the realization of the Naam, the Immaculate Name of the Lord, the unfathomable, the imperceptible.
anadhin bhagat kareh ra(n)g raate naanak sach samaae ||
Those who perform devotional worship to the Lord night and day, are imbued with His Love; O Nanak, they are absorbed in the True Lord.
jinee sachaRaa sach dhiaaiaa ha(n)au tin kai laagau paae ||4||4||
I fall at the feet of those who meditate on the Truest of the True. ||4||4||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਖੀ ਆਉ ਸਖੀ ਵਸਿ ਆਉ ਸਖੀ ਅਸੀ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਵਹ ॥
Come, O my sisters, come, O my companions, and let us remain under the Lord's control. Let's sing the Songs of Bliss of our Husband Lord.
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਸਖੀ ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਸਖੀ ਮਤੁ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਾਵਹ ॥
Renounce your pride, O my companions, renounce your egotistical pride, O my sisters, so that you may become pleasing to your Beloved.
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ॥
Renounce pride, emotional attachment, corruption and duality, and serve the One Immaculate Lord.
ਲਗੁ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਰਤ ਬਿਖੰਡਨੋ ॥
Hold tight to the Sanctuary of the Feet of the Merciful Lord, your Beloved, the Destroyer of all sins.
ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸੀ ਤਜਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਬਿਧੀ ਨ ਧਾਵਾ ॥
Be the slave of His slaves, forsake sorrow and sadness, and do not bother with other devices.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਇਅੰਪੈ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤਾਮਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਵਾ ॥੧॥
Prays Nanak, O Lord, please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may sing Your songs of bliss. ||1||

Goojaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੋ ਅਪਨੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਭਰਿਆ ॥
jis maanukh peh karau benatee so apanai dhukh bhariaa ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੋਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੀਹ ਨਿਵਿਰਤ ਕਰੇ?) ।
Whoever I approach to ask for help, I find him full of his own troubles.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
paarabraham jin ridhai araadhiaa tin bhau saagar tariaa ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਡਰ (-ਭਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
One who worships in his heart the Supreme Lord God, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ॥
gur har bin ko na birathaa dhukh kaaTai ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਧਿਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਪੀੜ ਕੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।
No one, except the Guru-Lord, can dispel our pain and sorrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਜਿ ਅਵਰ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਜਸੁ ਘਾਟੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh taj avar sevak je hoiee hai tit maan mahat jas ghaaTai ||1|| rahaau ||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਆਦਰਾ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Forsaking God, and serving another, one's honor, dignity and reputation are decreased. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
man kee man hee maeh rahee ||
:—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੇਖੋ, ਮਾਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਤਾ! ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ
The mind remains in the mind.
ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naa har bhaje na teerath seve choTee kaal gahee ||1|| rahaau ||
ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੇ, ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਬੋਦੀ ਆ ਫੜੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He does not meditate on the Lord, nor does he perform service at sacred shrines, and so death seizes him by the hair. ||1||Pause||
ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਰਥ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਧਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਮਹੀ ॥
dhaaraa meet poot rath sa(n)pat dhan pooran sabh mahee ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ, ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ—ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ
Wife, friends, children, carriages, property, total wealth, the entire world
ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥
avar sagal mithiaa e jaanau bhajan raam ko sahee ||1||
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ (ਹੀ) ਅਸਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਹੈ ।੧।
- know that all of these things are false. The Lord's meditation alone is true. ||1||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve jeea ke ba(n)dhanaa vich haumai karam kamaeh ||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਰਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਲਈ ਬੰਧਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Without serving the True Guru, the soul is in the bondage of deeds done in ego.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve ttaur na paavahee mar ja(n)meh aaveh jaeh ||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਉਹ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਫੇਰ) ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਫੇਰ) ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
Without serving the True Guru, one finds no place of rest; he dies, and is reincarnated, and continues coming and going.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve fikaa bolanaa naam na vasai man maeh ||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਭੀ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।
Without serving the True Guru, one's speech is vapid and insipid; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not abide in his mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak bin satigur seve jam pur badhe maareean muh kaalai autt jaeh ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਾਲੇ-ਮੂੰਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜਮਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਧੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੧।

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
jo har seveh sa(n)t bhagat tin ke sabh paap nivaaree ||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸੰਤ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।
Those Saints and devotees who serve the Lord have all their sins washed away.
ਹਮ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਖੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਜੁ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥
ham uoopar kirapaa kar suaamee rakh sa(n)gat tum ju piaaree ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Have Mercy on me, O Lord and Master, and keep me in the Sangat, the Congregation that You love. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
har gun keh na sakau banavaaree ||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ
I cannot even speak the Praises of the Lord, the Gardener of the world.
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਥਰ ਨੀਰਿ ਡੁਬਤ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਖਣ ਹਮ ਤਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirabhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibha(n) gur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
ਜੀਉ ਡਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
jeeau ddarat hai aapanaa kai siau karee pukaar ||

My soul is afraid; to whom should I complain?
ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

My foolish heart is in the grip of pride.
ਹੀਓ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਮਾਇਓ ॥ ਡੀਹਰ ਨਿਆਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਕਿਓ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਸਦ ਲੋੜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਹਣੇ ਕੈਠੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੇ ॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਸਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁਤ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇ? ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦਾ (ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ
More and more, he continually yearns for more; but unless he is destined to receive, how can he obtain it?

ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਪਾਹ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ,
This body fabric is conditioned by Maya, O beloved; this cloth is dyed in greed.
ਮੇਰੈ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਚੋਲੜਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਧਨ ਸੇਜੈ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥

ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ (ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਚੋਲਾ (ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ, ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ।੧।
My Husband Lord is not pleased by these clothes, O Beloved; how can the soul-bride go to His bed? ||1||
ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਈ ॥੧॥
If only someone would come, and lead me to meet my Darling Beloved; I would sell myself to him. ||1||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
I long for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
When the Lord shows Mercy unto me, then I meet the True Guru; I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
If You will bless me with happiness, then I will worship and adore You. Even in pain, I will meditate on You. ||2||
ਜੇ ਭੁਖ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਇਤ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਖ ਮਨਾਈ ॥੩॥
Even if You give me hunger, I will still feel satisfied; I am joyful, even in the midst of sorrow. ||3||
I would cut my mind and body apart into pieces, and offer them all to You; I would burn myself in fire. ||4||
I wave the fan over You, and carry water for You; whatever You give me, I take. ||5||
The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of my Beloved, is like a cane to a blind man.
ਓਹ ਜੋਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਮੋਹਨੀ ॥
Maya seduces in so many ways, like a beautiful enticing woman.
ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰਿ ਚੰਚਲਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਵ ਦਿਖਾਵਏ ॥
This enticer is so incredibly beautiful and clever; she entices with countless suggestive gestures.
ਹੋਇ ਢੀਠ ਮੀਠੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਣ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥
Maya is stubborn and persistent; she seems so sweet to the mind, and then he does not chant the Naam.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਹਿ ਤੀਰੈ ਬਰਤ ਪੂਜਾ ਬਾਟ ਘਾਟੈ ਜੋਹਨੀ ॥
At home, in the forest, on the banks of sacred rivers, fasting, worshipping, on the roads and on the shore, she is spying.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਇਅੰਪੈ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਮੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਟੋਹਨੀ ॥੨॥
Prays Nanak, please bless me with Your Kindness, Lord; I am blind, and Your Name is my cane. ||2||
ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਨਾਥ ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਖਹੁ ॥
I am helpless and masterless; You, O my Beloved, are my Lord and Master. As it pleases You, so do You protect me.
ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਰੀਝਾਵਉ ਕਹਿ ਮੁਖਹੁ ॥
I have no wisdom or cleverness; what face should I put on to please You?
ਨਹ ਚਤੁਰਿ ਸੁਘਰਿ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਬੇਤੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨਿ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
I am not clever, skillful or wise; I am worthless, without any virtue at all.
ਨਹ ਰੂਪ ਧੂਪ ਨ ਨੈਣ ਬੰਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਹ ਰਖੁ ਤੁਹੀ ॥
I have no beauty or pleasing smell, no beautiful eyes. As it pleases You, please preserve me, O Lord.
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਜਇਅੰਪਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਰੁਣਾਪਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਲਖਹੁ ॥
His victory is celebrated by all; how can I know the state of the Lord of Mercy?
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਇਅੰਪੈ ਸੇਵ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਖਹੁ ॥੩॥
Prays Nanak, I am the servant of Your servants; as it pleases You, please preserve me. ||3||
ਮੋਹਿ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤੁਮ ਨੀਰ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਰੈ ॥
I am the fish, and You are the water; without You, what can I do?
ਮੋਹਿ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ ਬੂੰਦ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਰੈ ॥
I am the rainbird, and You are the rain-drop; when it falls into my mouth, I am satisfied.
When it falls into my mouth, my thirst is quenched; You are the Lord of my soul, my heart, my breath of life.
Touch me, and caress me, O Lord, You are in all; let me meet You, so that I may be emancipated.
In my consciousness I remember You, and the darkness is dispelled, like the chakvi duck, which longs to see the dawn.
Prays Nanak, O my Beloved, please unite me with Yourself; the fish never forgets the water. ||4||
Blessed, blessed is my destiny; my Husband Lord has come into my home.
The gate of my mansion is so beautiful, and all my gardens are so green and alive.
My peace-giving Lord and Master has rejuvenated me, and blessed me with great joy, bliss and love.
My Young Husband Lord is eternally young, and His body is forever youthful; what tongue can I use to chant His Glorious Praises?
My bed is beautiful; gazing upon Him, I am fascinated, and all my doubts and pains are dispelled.
Prays Nanak, my hopes are fulfilled; my Lord and Master is unlimited. ||5||1||3||

ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਸਨਬੰਧ ਸੈਨ ਸਾਕ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਹ ਸਾਕ ਸਜਣ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਵਿਰਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ ।
Relatives, relations and family bound through Maya are of no avail.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਨੀਚ ਕੁਲੁ ਊਚਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
har kaa dhaas neech kul uoochaa tis sa(n)g man baa(n)chhat fal paiaa ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਜੇ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ (ਜਾਣੋ), ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
The Lord's servant, although of lowly birth, is exalted. Associating with him, one obtains the fruits of his mind's desires. ||2||
ਲਾਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੀ ॥
laakh koT bikhiaa ke bi(n)jan taa meh tirasan na boojhee ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ (ਖਾਣ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ।
Through corruption, one may obtain thousands and millions of enjoyments, but even so, his desires are not satisfied through them.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸੂਝੀ ॥੩॥
simarat naam koT aujeeaaraa basat agochar soojhee ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ (ਸੂਰਜਾਂ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ।੩।
Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, millions of lights appear, and the incomprehensible is understood. ||3||
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਤੁਮ੍ਹਰੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
firat firat tum(h)rai dhuaar aaiaa bhai bha(n)jan har raiaa ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ
Wandering and roaming around, I have come to Your Door, Destroyer of fear, O Lord King.
ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਛੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥੭॥
saadh ke charan dhoor jan baachhai sukh naanak ih paiaa ||4||6||7||
ਉਹ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਇਹ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।੭।
Servant Nanak yearns for the dust of the feet of the Holy; in it, he finds peace. ||4||6||7||

Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
naanak kahat milan kee bareeaa simarat kahaa nahee ||2||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ।੨।੨।
Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2||

ਜਾਲਉ ਐਸੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
jaalau aaisee reet jit mai piaaraa veesarai ||
ਮੈਂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ,
Burn away those rituals which lead you to forget the Beloved Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
naanak saiee bhalee pareet jit saahib setee pat rahai ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ ।੨।
O Nanak, sublime is that love, which preserves my honor with my Lord Master. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
har iko dhaataa seveeaai har ik dhiaaieeaai ||
ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ;
Serve the One Lord, the Great Giver; meditate on the One Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
har iko dhaataa ma(n)geeaai man chi(n)dhiaa paieeaai ||
ਇਕੋ ਹਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ;
Beg from the One Lord, the Great Giver, and you shall obtain your heart's desires.
ਜੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਾ ਲਾਜ ਮਰਾਈਐ ॥
je dhooje paasahu ma(n)geeaai taa laaj maraieeaai ||
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੰਗੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਈਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੰਗਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ) ।
But if you beg from another, then you shall be shamed and destroyed.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
jin seviaa tin fal paiaa tis jan kee sabh bhukh gavaieeaai ||
ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।
One who serves the Lord obtains the fruits of his rewards; all of his hunger is satisfied.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧੦॥
naanak tin viTahu vaariaa jin anadhin hiradhai har naam dhiaaieeaai ||10||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧੦।
Nanak is a sacrifice to those, who night and day, meditate within their hearts on the Name of the Lord. ||10||

ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ (ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ
We are sinners, sinking like stones in water; grant Your Grace, and carry us stones across. ||Pause||
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
janam janam ke laage bikh morachaa lag sa(n)gat saadh savaaree ||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਗਾਲ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The rust of poison and corruption from countless incarnations sticks to us; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it is cleaned away.
ਜਿਉ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰਿ ਤਾਇਓ ਮਲੁ ਕਾਟੀ ਕਟਿਤ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
jiau ka(n)chan baisa(n)tar taio mal kaaTee kaTit autaaree ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਤਪਾਇਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
It is just like gold, which is heated in the fire, to remove the impurities from it. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਜਪਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
har har japan japau dhin raatee jap har har har aur dhaaree ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤਾਂਹੀਏਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I chant the chant of the Name of the Lord, day and night; I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and enshrine it within my heart.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਗਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
har har har aaukhadh jag pooraa jap har har haumai maaree ||3||
। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਐਸੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਰ ਕਰਨੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁੰਝਦੀ । ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, is the most perfect medicine in this world; chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have conquered my ego. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥
har har agam agaadh bodh apara(n)par purakh apaaree ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ! ਹੇ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ
The Lord, Har, Har, is unapproachable, of unfathomable wisdom, unlimited, all-powerful and infinite.
ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥
jan kau kirapaa karahu jagajeevan jan naanak paij savaaree ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।੪।੧।
Show Mercy to Your humble servant, O Life of the world, and save the honor of servant Nanak. ||4||1||

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਹੀ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Night and day, I serve my Lord and Master; He shall save me in the end.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
sun sun meree kaamanee paar autaaraa hoi ||2||
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ (ਉਸ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Hearing and listening, O my dear sister, I have crossed over. ||2||

O Merciful Lord, Your Name carries me across.

ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਸਰਬੰ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
saraba(n) saachaa ek hai dhoojaa naahee koi ||
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ।
In all the world, there is only the One True Lord; there is no other at all.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
taa kee sevaa so kare jaa kau nadhar kare ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
He alone serves the Lord, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||3||
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੇਵ ਰਹਾ ॥
tudh baajh piaare kev rahaa ||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
Without You, O Beloved, how could I even live?
ਸਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਂ ॥
saa vaddiaaiee dheh jit naam tere laag rahaa(n) ||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।
Bless me with such greatness, that I may remain attached to Your Name.
ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਾਇ ਕਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhoojaa naahee koi jis aagai piaare jai kahaa ||1|| rahaau ||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ ।
There is no other, O Beloved, to whom I can go and speak. ||1||Pause||
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਚੰਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
sevee saahib aapanaa avar na jaacha(n)au koi ||
I serve my Lord and Master; I ask for no other.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
naanak taa kaa dhaas hai bi(n)dh bi(n)dh chukh chukh hoi ||4||
Nanak is His slave; moment by moment, bit by bit, he is a sacrifice to Him. ||4||

Listen, O mind, to the Teachings of the Holy Saints, and all your sins shall be totally washed away.
ਜਾ ਕੋ ਲਹਣੋ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਗਾਠੜੀਓ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ਨ ਪਉੜਿਓ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੯॥

ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ।੨।੨।੧੯।
One who is destined to receive from the Lord, O servant Nanak, shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again. ||2||2||19||

ਕਾਇਆ ਰੰਙਣਿ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਉ ਮਜੀਠ ॥

ਜੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਨੀਲਾਰੀ ਦੀ) ਮੱਟੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਤੇ ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਜੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਜੀਠ ਵਰਗੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ,
If the body becomes the dyer's vat, O Beloved, and the Name is placed within it as the dye,
ਰੰਙਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੇ ਰੰਙੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਐਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਡੀਠ ॥੨॥
ra(n)n(g)n vaalaa je ra(n)n(g)ai saahib aaisaa ra(n)g na ddeett ||2||
ਫਿਰ ਮਾਲਿਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਨੀਲਾਰੀ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਰੰਗ (ਦਾ ਡੋਬਾ) ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ ।੨।
and if the Dyer who dyes this cloth is the Lord Master - O, such a color has never been seen before! ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਚੋਲੇ ਰਤੜੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਤੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jin ke chole rataRe piaare ka(n)t tinaa kai paas ||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਸੱਜਣ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਚੋਲੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ) ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਦਾ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
Those whose shawls are so dyed, O Beloved, their Husband Lord is always with them.
ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੀ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੀ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
dhooR tinaa kee je milai jee kahu naanak kee aradhaas ||3||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਨਾਨਕ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ, ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ।੩।
Bless me with the dust of those humble beings, O Dear Lord. Says Nanak, this is my prayer. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
aape saaje aape ra(n)ge aape nadhar karei ||
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself creates, and He Himself imbues us. He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕੰਤੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਾਵੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
naanak kaaman ka(n)tai bhaavai aape hee raavei ||4||1||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।੩।
O Nanak, if the soul-bride becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord, He Himself enjoys her. ||4||1||3||

Poor Nanak has fallen at the Lord's Door; please, O Lord, unite me with Yourself, by Your Glorious Greatness. ||6||
Taking out my eyes, I place them at Your Feet; after travelling over the entire earth, I have come to understand this. ||7||
If You seat me near You, then I worship and adore You. Even if You beat me and drive me out, I will still meditate on You. ||8||
If people praise me, the praise is Yours. Even if they slander me, I will not leave You. ||9||
If You are on my side, then anyone can say anything. But if I were to forget You, then I would die. ||10||
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to my Guru; falling at His Feet, I surrender to the Saintly Guru. ||11||
Poor Nanak has gone insane, longing for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. ||12||
Even in violent storms and torrential rain, I go out to catch a glimpse of my Guru. ||13||
Even though the oceans and the salty seas are very vast, the GurSikh will cross over it to get to his Guru. ||14||
Just as the mortal dies without water, so does the Sikh die without the Guru. ||15||
Just as the earth looks beautiful when the rain falls, so does the Sikh blossom forth meeting the Guru. ||16||
I long to be the servant of Your servants; I call upon You reverently in prayer. ||17||
Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may meet the Guru, and find peace. ||18||
You Yourself are the Guru, and You Yourself are the chaylaa, the disciple; through the Guru, I meditate on You. ||19||
Those who serve You, become You. You preserve the honor of Your servants. ||20||
O Lord, Your devotional worship is a treasure over-flowing. One who loves You, is blessed with it. ||21||
That humble being alone receives it, unto whom You bestow it. All other clever tricks are fruitless. ||22||
Remembering, remembering, remembering my Guru in meditation, my sleeping mind is awakened. ||23||
Poor Nanak begs for this one blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of the Lord. ||24||
Even if the Guru rebukes me, He still seems very sweet to me. And if He actually forgives me, that is the Guru's greatness. ||25||
That which Gurmukh speaks is certified and approved. Whatever the self-willed manmukh says is not accepted. ||26||
Even in the cold, the frost and the snow, the GurSikh still goes out to see his Guru. ||27||
All day and night, I gaze upon my Guru; I install the Guru's Feet in my eyes. ||28||
I make so many efforts for the sake of the Guru; only that which pleases the Guru is accepted and approved. ||29||
Night and day, I worship the Guru's Feet in adoration; have Mercy upon me, O my Lord and Master. ||30||
The Guru is Nanak's body and soul; meeting the Guru, he is satisfied and satiated. ||31||
Nanak's God is perfectly permeating and all-pervading. Here and there and everywhere, the Lord of the Universe. ||32||1||
