| January 1st, 25: Embark on a Year-Long Journey Through the Bible's Rich Stories | 01 Jan 2025 | 00:28:24 | |
One Year Bible Podcast: Join Hunter and Heather Barnes on 'The Daily Radio Bible' for a daily 20-minute spiritual journey. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible podcast! I'm your host, Hunter, and today is January 1st, 2025. As we kick off this new year, we're embarking on a transformative journey through the Bible, reading the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice. Together, we'll immerse ourselves in scripture, reflect, and pray, as we draw closer to Jesus and His boundless love. In today's episode, we dive into the foundational chapters of Genesis, exploring the creation story, and begin the Gospel of Luke, witnessing the miraculous announcements of John the Baptist and Jesus' births. We'll discuss living a shame-free life through Christ and encourage you to say "yes" to His presence and forgiveness. Join us for a time of prayer and reflection, and let's start this year by focusing our hearts on the one who offers us true, abundant life. Remember, dear ones, you are loved. Let's get started! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Shame free living. That's how the story begins. God created man and woman, and they were without shame. But in the chapters ahead, we are going to see that they have been robbed of a life without shame. We'll soon read all about it. We'll also read about the devastation that ensues. But as we read through the whole story of God, we're going to find that it doesn't end there. No. That would be bad news. But this is good news. And the good news is that God has sent his one and only son, the second Adam. And he's going to do everything necessary for us to get back to a life without shame. A life lived with God. That's the whole point of this amazing story of the Bible. That this has been given to us. God has come to us at our lowest, the most shame filled places of our lives. Christ has come to meet us there, and he offers us there a real abundant shame free life. Some of you went through this last year carrying a lot of shame, but this year can be different. This year, you can come to him, not just pages in a book, but to Christ himself who is present with you and in you. And you can begin to open up your heart to him so that he might set you free from all the ways that shame has crippled your life. The prayer that I have for my own soul today is that you and I would have the same spirit and heart that Mary had when she heard the good news. She said yes to it. She said yes. May it be unto me as you have just said. Maybe she didn't understand all of it. No doubt she didn't. But she was ready to say yes to God. And maybe that's something that you can do today. Even though you don't understand all things, you can say yes to him who does. You can say yes If you've heard like I heard today in the reading that God intends for us to live without shame, then say yes to that. If you have heard as I have heard today that Jesus has come to take that shame away, To take away any barrier that would keep us from a life with him? Then maybe you and I can both say yes to that. Let me encourage you to say it, even in your unbelief. Go ahead and say it now. Yes, God. I believe. Help me in my unbelief. I say yes to your presence in my life. I say yes to your forgiveness. I say yes to the hope that I can live without shame and in your strength. Maybe you just need to whisper it to yourself. Maybe you need to shout it out loud. It's important that we begin wherever we can. And maybe today, that beginning is simply a whisper of faint hope that maybe it's true. That maybe we can be free. Maybe God really is with us. Maybe Christ really doesn't live in you. Maybe you really are loved by God. Maybe there's a way to live without shame. And to that, I say, yes. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. | December 31st, 24:Concluding Our Yearlong Journey Through Revelation: A Prayerful Reflection on God's Love | 31 Dec 2024 | 00:26:42
TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome, dear ones, to the final day of the year and the concluding episode of 2024 on the Daily Radio Bible. I'm your host, Hunter, and today we reach the end of our year-long journey through the scriptures. We'll be diving into Revelation chapters 19 through 22, discovering the grand visions of the new heaven, new earth, and the holy city, New Jerusalem. As we reflect back on the year, celebrating the scriptures we've read, the lessons we've learned, and the transformations we've experienced, let's also look forward with hope and anticipation for what 2025 has in store. Thank you for being part of this journey, and as always, may God's joy be our strength as we move forward. Let's embark together – 2025, here we come! TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's only just begun. Even as we conclude this story, we see that a new story is just beginning. A new creation is coming. A new heaven and a new earth, a new city, a new Jerusalem with new citizens composed of all the nations, and these nations will walk in the light of God. They are enveloped in his light. They are his children of light. Today, as we consider these great mysteries, let's be sure of this. This story that we're living right now has an endpoint. There is a conclusion that God is bringing it to, but it just doesn't end with a conclusion. No. Now we see that there is still more to come. In fact, the best is yet to come. And that can be a great reminder and a great comfort to our souls. As we see certain chapters of our own lives come to their conclusion, we can rest assured that God is not done. There's still more to come. Because with Him we have life. We have life abundant and He promises to be with us through all of the seasons and the chapters of our lives, even as He has been this year and all that it brought, all its challenges, its misfortunes, its victories, and its joys. And he will continue to be with us as we walk into this next chapter. All that will unfold, we do not know, but we do know this, that God is with us, that he is good, and that we are loved. The prayer of my own soul today is that I will live in the light, that I will respond to the one who is the light of the world, the one who has come to give himself, that I might know him, that I might be free, that I might experience his peace and his joy. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. | December 22nd, 24:Embracing Peace of Mind and Heart: Lessons from John Chapters 12-14 | 22 Dec 2024 | 00:26:43
TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome, dear ones, to the Daily Radio Bible. Today is December 22nd, 2024, day 357 of our incredible journey through the Bible. I'm Hunter, your host and Bible reading coach, here to guide your hearts and minds toward Jesus. While Heather is away visiting family in Colorado, we gather here to immerse ourselves in the sacred scriptures. In this episode, we journey through John chapters 12 through 14, witnessing powerful moments like the anointing of Jesus by Mary, Judas's eventual betrayal, and Jesus's profound teachings on love, service, and the promise of the Holy Spirit. As we read, we'll explore the gift that Jesus offers—peace of mind and heart—timely words as we prepare our hearts for the Christmas season. So, settle in, open your hearts, and let’s dive deep into the living Word of God together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: I just went and did a little Christmas shopping right before doing this podcast. I was looking for gifts as you do when you go Christmas shopping. In today's reading, we hear that Jesus has offered us a gift. Verse 27 says, I am leaving you with a gift. Curious to know what it is? I mean, it is almost Christmas. It's peace of mind and heart. That's the gift. It's unique to him, he says. No one in this world can give you that. Nothing in this world can give you that. Peace of mind and heart. Is your mind troubled? Is your heart troubled? Jesus is offering you a gift today, a living word of God. A man who walked about the land of Galilee, who performed miracles, who raised the dead, who offered himself on behalf of all of humanity, the creator of all things. Creator of that ocean that I walked by today, looked out over. He offers me peace of mind and heart. All those anxieties that I have about my future, about my family, about finances, about health, about my mom, all those things that make my mind very unpeaceful. Jesus wants to give me peace. There in the midst of all that, he says, I have a gift for you, Hunter. Any place in my heart that is not settled or that is wounded, that is confused or injured, Jesus himself today says, I can bring peace there. I can quiet your heart even. So, if you're like me today, let us together say thank you. Let us together find some time to to sit with this generous gift. And allow the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the counselor, the one who is with us now. Help us to open that gift, and to begin to live in the light of it, in the joy of it, in the love of it, receiving all that God has for each and every one of us. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's the pair that I have for you. Peace, of mind, and heart. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Prophets like Isaiah and John the Baptist were calling Jesus the Light, the Anointed One, the Messiah. But here, at the end of this chapter, Jesus calls himself the Stairway. Then he said, I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth. (Jn1:51 NLT) Jesus has come to unite heaven with earth, to bring the two together, he is the self described stairway between both. This is Jesus dream for the world, union with God. he beacons us to pray God’s will on heaven as it is on earth. Jesus has made this union a reality in his incarnation, atonement and ascension, that’s the gospel. And Now he invites the whole world to live in this new reality. He is stairway, and he is inviting us to take steps with him, in his life, the life that he shares with the Father and Spirit. He has come to call us to follow him, like Nathaniel, sitting there, earth bound under his tree, he invites him and us to see something greater things. union between God and man, union between heaven and earth. Jesus is the stairway. And in him we will live and move and have our being – In him we can move from under our trees, upward and forward, receiving grace, strength, light and hope as we follow him. Rejoice while you are on the stairs, moving upward and forward in Him.

Follow Today's reading : Isaiah 57-59; Psalm 103; 2 Peter 3 Soul Talk Today’s reading are Isaiah 57-59, Psalm 103 and II Peter 3. We are reading from the New Living Translation. How about we have a little ‘soul talk’? Sometimes our soul needs a good talking to. We need to develop the habit of speaking to our soul. In Psalm 103, some translations say, Bless the Lord, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; (Ps 103:1-2 NASB) The Psalmist then goes through the list, checking things off, one after another. In effect he is saying, Remember, Soul, this is what He’s done. You must bless Him, Soul. Remember, he has healed you. He forgives you. He redeems you. He crowns you with love. He satisfies you. He renews your strength. He vindicates the oppressed. He makes his ways known. On and on, the writer lists things that he wants his soul to know and remember When we speak to our soul the focus moves off of us and is placed on Him. Did you notice that? Look at what He has done, not what you have done – whether it’s the mess you’ve made or the virtues you’ve displayed. Shift the focus off of you and onto Him. When we practice ‘soul talk’ we are really doing ‘gospel talk’. We’re speaking the Gospel – God’s good Word – into our lives. We need a good soul talk every day. Every day we need to speak the Gospel into our lives. We also need others to speak the Gospel into our souls. Let’s do that for each other. Let’s shift our eyes off of ourselves and onto Christ and others. Then we can speak hope, life, and the Gospel, not only to ourselves but to the souls of those around us. – our family, our church, our friends. Are you feeling discouraged, afraid, condemned? Give yourself a good soul talk. Speak the Gospel to your soul. List the things that God has done for you. Recite the ways in which he has shown mercy and grace to you. Re-read Psalm 103. Write these things out. Develop the habit of speaking to your soul, daily, letting the good news of the Gospel seep down into the roots of your life.

Follow Today's reading: Isaiah 50-52 ; Psalm 92 : 2 Peter 1 NEED A CONFIDENCE BOOST? We are reading from the New Living Translation. Peter’s experience on the Mount of Transfiguration filled him with confidence. He recalls the experience in II Peter 1:19 when he says: Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. hearing the voice of God built his confidence. What he heard was God’s declaration of love for his son. God’s voice broke out and said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! (Mt 17:5 NLT) Peter still drawing confidence and comfort in this Word – this declaration of God’s love for his son. Peter is drawing confidence from this experience because he is awakening to God’s love for him. In John 17 Jesus says, I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. This was starting to happen for Peter, and he would let this truth continue to take root in his life. It was this knowledge and experience of God’s love that gave him confidence to move forward, regardless of the circumstances. Have you experienced the love of the Father? Experiencing His love transforms us from the inside out. It gives us confidence and courage, to move forward. If you are feeling unconfident, thats ok, just listen to the words proclaimed over Jesus, “you are God’s Child, and you are loved.” that seed will take some time to grow in your life, just as it did with Peter, But allow the Holy Spirit to nurture this reality in your life, and grow.

Follow Today's reading Isaiah 46-49 ; 1 Peter 5 RETURNING TO THE RUINS Today’s readings are Isaiah 46-49 and I Peter 5. We are reading from the New Living Translation. Return to the ruins. Sometimes God calls you back to the ruins but don’t let the ruins fool you. God has not forgotten you. Out of the ruins He is raising up something new and you don’t want to miss it. Don’t miss it by running, or despairing at the destruction you see. God is bringing you back to do something new -to reveal his grace to you, and to reveal himself to you. This was Isaiah’s message. They were exiled but they were not forgotten. Like a note that He can’t afford to lose, Isaiah tells us that God has written your name on the palm of his hand. Isaiah 49:16 says See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem’s walls in ruins. God has not forgotten your name among the ruins. He has your name in mind, because he is about to doing something new. Peter tells us: My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace. (I Pt 5:12 NLT) God may be returning you to the ruins. Don’t despair at the destruction you see. God’s about to reveal something new – His grace – Himself. Your name is written on the palm of his hand and what he says is sure to happen. You don’t want to miss it. Return to whatever ruins God may be calling you to. Don’t despair at the destruction but be assured and encouraged that your name is written on the palm of his hand and you can stand firm, right there, among the ruins. Stand firm because this is his grace for you. He’s about to do something new in you. He has not forgotten. He sees exactly where you are. Your name is written on his hand, no matter the circumstances.

Follow our other podcasts at http://www.dailyradiobible.com Partner with us to produce these podcasts by donating HERE. We are reading through he New Living Translation. Isaiah 40 - 42 and I Peter 3 Have you ever been lost, unable to find your way home? There have been moments in the woods when I’ve been struck with panic because I wasn’t sure how I was going to get myself home. That’s not a good feeling. In this life there are so many ways that we can get lost, and ways that we can lose ourselves. Peter gives us an impressive list here. It includes concern over our outward beauty, refusal to honor our wives as equal partners in this life, divisiveness and wanting to repay evil for evil, hurt for hurt. We can land in the ditch of evil and self-focused living without even trying. The antidote to the self-focused life is a life of humility. One way to do this is to recognize God’s authority in our life. Peter encourages us to humble ourselves before the Lord. If we humble ourselves before him he will lift us up. We submit to his authority. This chapter begins and ends with the word authority. When I allow God to have the final say in all areas of my life: my marriage, work, friendship, finances - my life will take on a whole other quality. Then Peter says to be ready to give an explanation on why our life looks so different. Be ready to explain to the world why you have His hope within you. One of your answers will be that you have accepted the Lord’s authority in your life. Your life is not your own. You belong to Him. First Peter 3:22 ends with these words: Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority. Each day when we wake up it’s our turn to say, once again, Lord, I accept your authority. Not my will but your will. I’m ready to follow you today. I belong to you. When we humble ourselves daily before him we won’t feel lost. We’ll know how to get home. When we do that we will experience life, hope, grace and peace. We’ll experience him. Are you feeling lost today? Humble yourself and accept Christ’s authority in your life. That my friend, will be a game-changer. Daily come to his Word, humbly accepting and submitting to the word of Truth. It’s a Word that will set you free.

TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, a podcast that guides you on a journey through the scriptures every day. I’m your host, Hunter, and together we'll spend the next 20 minutes diving into the transformative power of God's Word. Today is September 21st, 2024, and it marks day 265 of our journey through the Bible. In this episode, we'll be exploring the enigmatic visions from the book of Daniel chapters 7 and 8, the poignant lament of Psalm 137, and the compelling story of Jesus’ early ministry in Luke chapter 4. We’ll see how Daniel’s prophetic dreams unveil the rise and fall of kingdoms and ultimately point to God’s eternal sovereignty. In Psalm 137, we'll resonate with the Israelites' longing for Jerusalem during their Babylonian captivity. And in Luke chapter 4, we’ll witness Jesus’ powerful teaching and miraculous works as He begins His public ministry. Stay tuned as we reflect on these scriptures and lift our hearts in prayer, seeking God’s guidance and strength for our daily lives. Join me now, as we center our hearts on the one who holds the words of life. Let's begin! Amen. You must obey them as long as you live. 2 “When you drive out the nations that live there, you must destroy all the places where they worship their gods—high on the mountains, up on the hills, and under every green tree. 3 Break down their altars and smash their sacred pillars. Burn their Asherah poles and cut down their carved idols. Completely erase the names of their gods! 4 “Do not worship the Lord your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods. 5 Rather, you must seek the Lord your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes—the place where his name will be honored. 6 There you will bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, your offerings to fulfill a vow, your voluntary offerings, and your offerings of the firstborn animals of your herds and flocks. 7 There you and your families will feast in the presence of the Lord your God, and you will rejoice in all you have accomplished because the Lord your God has blessed you. 8 “Your pattern of worship will change. Today all of you are doing as you please, 9 because you have not yet arrived at the place of rest, the land the Lord your God is giving you as your special possession. 10 But you will soon cross the Jordan River and live in the land the Lord your God is giving you. When he gives you rest from all your enemies and you’re living safely in the land, 11 you must bring everything I command you—your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, and your offerings to fulfill a vow—to the designated place of worship, the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored. 12 “You must celebrate there in the presence of the Lord your God with your sons and daughters and all your servants. We know his father and mother. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” 43 But Jesus replied, “Stop complaining about what I said. 44 For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up. 45 As it is written in the Scriptures,b]">[b] ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 (Not that anyone has ever seen the Father; only I, who was sent from God, have seen him.) 47 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. 48 Yes, I am the bread of life! 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. 50 Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Follow our other podcasts at http://www.dailyradiobible.com Partner with us to produce these podcasts by donating HERE. We are reading through he New Living Translation. Follow Today's reading HERE: __ Clear out the Junk II Chronicles 29 - 31 and James 4 In James 4:10 we hear these words: Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. Hezekiah was someone who lived this out. He humbled himself before the Lord. At last, we see in Hezekiah, a good king in Judah. He was a king who sought to humble himself before God. And because of this, God gave him great success. A revival broke out and the nation was restored in worship of the Lord their God - the God of their ancestors. Things went well for Hezekiah because he humbled himself before God. But humility doesn’t just happen to us. Humility takes some effort on our part. At the beginning of chapter 29, Hezekiah says: Listen to me, you Levites! Purify yourselves, and purify the Temple of the LORD, the God of your ancestors. Remove all the defiled things from the sanctuary. (II Chron 29:4 NLT) It took 16 days to clear out all the junk that was in the temple so that they could finally get to the altar to begin worshipping. It took 16 days to clear out the junk! It took some work! They had to humble themselves. This is something we have to do, too. There is junk that needs to be cleared out. We need to bow our own hearts. to humble ourselves. The temptation is to ignore the junk that stands between us and God. Israel allowed the alter to become a junk room. And we can allow junk from our past, disappointments, fears, resentments to stand between God’s gracious presence. All that junk can rob us from experiencing God’s presence, his encouragment, his peace. We can keep storing junk, or we can begin to take the time to clear it all out. We can come humbly to God each day, even as we come to the word in this podcast, let this time we share be a time to humble ourselves before God. He will remove the barriers you’ve put in place. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Heb 4:16 NLT)

2 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
| Daily Radio Bible - July 18th, 22 | 18 Jul 2022 | 00:22:58 | |
II Kings 17, II Chronicles 28, Psalm 46, and James 3 When God captivates our heart with his love, when he tames our heart with his love, our lives are never the same. When that happens we are reborn, and begin to be set free. We begin to live a different kind of life, a Spirit-filled life. James is contrasting two different kinds of life here. There is the Spirit-filled life, evidenced by a heart that‘s being tamed by his love, and there is the heart of the flesh. James points to something as simple and mundane as the tongue, and our words, and he shows us that this little tongue of ours simply cannot be tamed. We can’t control it. It controls us. It creates circumstances in our lives that are simply beyond our control. It’s a flame of fire he says, and that fire finds its source in Hell itself. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. (Jms 3:6 NLT) He tells us that if we could control the tongue we would be perfect. But alas, we cannot even control this tiny little tongue of ours, and we are not perfect. We can’t even affect the change we want in something as simple as the use of our words. Apart from God, we can’t affect the change we want in this life. It’s as futile as trying to draw fresh water from a salty spring, James says. But in Christ, our heart is tamed by his love, and we begin to participate with that love, and we learn to draw from the refreshing springs of Christ, his presence,, daily. We experience something completely different. In Christ we can learn to have wisdom that is pure and peace-loving. We can learn to be gentle, yield to others, show mercy, be sincere, not show favoritism, and be a peacemaker. A life tamed by his love, in the end, will yield a harvest of righteous living.
James is describing in such beautiful detail here, what the Spirit -filled life looks like. And that life is possible if we want it. It’s not possible on your own effort, but it is possible when you are captivated and tamed by his love. The Spirit of God comes and lives in and through you in such a way that you experience abundant life - the life that’s described here. Live in him and know his love. Keep in step with the Spirit. Let Christ live His life in and through you.

Follow Today's reading HERE: James says, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds” George MacDonald a Scottish author, poet and pastor I’ve been reading quite a bit of this year says,
When I think of ‘good deeds’ I think of ‘obedience’. Just doing “good deeds” is not what God is after. He is after so much more. He is after a real relationship with us, and our real participation with him in what he is doing. He invites us to walk in step with his Spirit within us It is only in acting on what we say we have faith in, that we begin to really walk with Christ. We have to move out of our head and into our hands and feet, responding to His life within us. It is in this responding to and participating in the life of Christ, that we are transformed. It is this journey of obedience that saves us from ourselves. When we obey we come, more and more, to recognize the voice of our Father, that was there all the time but which was drowned out by our own willful spirit of independence from him. Our Father is committed to our transformation and that comes through surrendering to him daily. It is in this way of obedience, doing the good deeds that He calls us to, that He is seen in the world. And in this walking with Him, our trust and faith in him grows stronger. Begin to do the next thing that your Father has laid before you. Do it with a trust in his loving care for you. Step out. Let your faith move from your head to your hands and your feet. In this way, as you participate with him, your confidence will grow and your faith will be strengthened.

In him we have seen a love that will not let us go. In him a love has been revealed to us, that even disciplines us when we stray away. This God is a consuming fire. But this fire is no longer a fire of judgement - a fire that consumes us from the outside, and makes us stagger back in terror. Rather, it’s a fire that comes to renew us from the inside, to restore and heal, to cauterize, forge and make new. Those two men on the road to Emmaus felt the fire when the resurrected Christ was walking alongside them, speaking to their hearts. They said, Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us? (Lk 24:32 NLT) It was not a fire outside of them, that consumed them in judgement. Rather, it was a fire that was revealing God’s love, plan and purposes for them. They felt it inside of them. That fire is offered to all of us that are in Christ. It’s not the fire of judgement. It is God’s fire of resurrection and restoration. It is a fire that consumes us with Him. Our champion, Jesus, endured the fires of judgement in order that we might experience the renewing and restoring fires of his presence with us and in us. Move into the warmth and allow the light of His fire to illuminate your path. Be restored and renewed in Him.

FREE AND CLEAR Today’s readings are Isaiah 15 – 18 and Hebrews 10. We are reading from the New Living Translation. How is your conscience? Is your conscience clean? Is it free? Have your feelings of guilt disappeared or is going to church just a constant weekly reminder of your shame? If that’s the case then you really haven’t understood just how good God is and how much Jesus has done for us on the cross. God doesn’t want your weekly offerings of regret over your past. That’s not the Christian life, and T/hat’s not what he has in mind. Jesus says, in verse 9, Look, I have come to do your will. For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. (Heb 10:9-10 NLT) And in Hebrews 10:12-14 it says: But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. That includes putting his law in our hearts and minds and giving us his very Spirit to dwell in us, to cleanse our conscience from the torments of guilt. Verse 22 says, …our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. That’s how amazing Jesus is and how good the Gospel is. You are fully clean, it wasn’t your sacrifice of shame and regret that made that so, or even your repentance, it was Jesus sacrifice that made you clean and forgiven, even before you did a thing. Repentance is a response to what God has done, and who we’ve become in him. Elsewhere Paul says: I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Phil 3:13-14 NLT) Paul could forget the past because Christ had freed him from his past by the shedding of his blood. Christian, Paul’s conscience was clean. How’s your conscience? Is it clean? It can be. Are you free? You can be. Do what Paul said. Focus on that One thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, press on toward the heavenly prize that God is calling you to. He’s done for you what you could never do on your own. Are you tired of coming to church week after week to offer your sacrifices of regret? Are you tired of coming to each day with shame and regrets? You don’t need to do that anymore. Christ has shed his blood for you, once, for all time. And that is more than enough. Walk in the liberty and joy of a conscience free and clean, because of what He has done for you.

A SECOND ROOM AND A SECOND CHANCE Today’s readings are Isaiah 11 – 14 and Hebrews 9. We are reading through the New Living Translation. There’s a second room and in it are symbols of a second chance. That’s what the writer of Hebrews is telling us. There is the Holy Place, the first room. But then he talks about a second room. In that room is a box containing symbols. In that box there is manna – a symbol of God’s provision care and love. There’s also a staff in the box. It represents God’s judgement, wisdom and rule. And there are tablets. These speak of His law and his righteousness. These are all symbols of kingdom life, that we were made to enjoy. These are artifacts and tokens of His kingdom. Theses symbols of the kingdom are all covered up in a box. And the cover of the box is called the Atonement Seat. It seems as if the vestiges of this greatly-desired kingdom are shut up from us in this box, out of reach. Access to these sparse tokens was granted only once a year and only to one person. When that person entered this second room he offered a sacrifice of blood on that atonement seat, where these symbols of the kingdom resided. It’s almost as if he was trying to open that box and that kingdom life, by this shed blood. He would enter that room, year after year, hoping to unlock as it were the gifts of kingdom life by sprinkling shed blood. But the key to the lock on this box could not be opened by the shedding of the blood of calves and goats. Opening the box and releasing the power of these kingdom symbols required a far greater sacrifice than the blood of goats and bulls. There’s only one person who can open up the treasures of this box. God has sent his own High Priest into the second room. He has offered his own blood on the seat of Atonement. And with the sacrifice of his Son we are given full access into kingdom life. Now we can know and experience His love. We can know his judgements and wisdom in our life. We can live righteously before him because now his Spirit resides in us and his laws are written on our hearts. Our champion, Christ, has gone into that second room and offered his own blood on the atonement seat. The treasures of that box have been opened for all of us. We no longer need to send our man in, once a year, into a second room to look at a box with scraps and tokens of a kingdom long ago, filled with failed dreams, and distant hopes. No. These symbols point us to what Christ has done for us, once for all time. He has won, for anyone who believes in him, the treasures of kingdom life, here and now. Don’t live on scraps, tokens, and remnants of some distant hope. No. Live in the fullness of kingdom life, right here and now, The with-God life has been won for all of us who come in faith, trusting in all He’s done for us. He went into that second room for us, and has opened up the treasures of the kingdom.

Amen. HERE IS THE MAIN POINT Today’s readings are Isaiah 8 – 10 and Hebrews 8. We are reading through the New Living Translation. Here’s the main point. Are you ready for it? That’s what the writer of Hebrews wants to tell us, right here in verse one. Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven. We have a High Priest. If we connect all the points along the way, we will arrive at this main point, and it is Jesus. He is our Advocate – our High Priest – the one who stands in our place before God. That’s what high priests do. He is the main point. And what he has done, and continues to do, is so much better than any other person or priest or prophet, has ever done. Our High Priest not only rescued us from slavery, the way Moses did; freeing us from our past, our guilt and shame. But our priest, Jesus, has done far more than that. His ultimate and final answer for how we live our lives is not to give us written laws on tablets of stone, that we are not able to obey. No. He has written laws not on stone, but on our hearts. He has given us new hearts, by his abiding presence in us, bringing change to our hearts, from the inside out. Verse 10 says: But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. All the points along the way – the people, priests and prophets – are driving to the ultimate prophet, priest, and king – Jesus. He is the main point. What he has done has given us real life now – a life of freedom, the power to change, to grow, and to love. He is the main point. Live in the light of Jesus, the Ultimate point of it all. Take Him to heart. Recognize that his life is in you. He has written his law on your mind and heart, and he is making you new. our website for the kids podcast is www.drbkids.com or you can find out about our other podcasts at www.dailyradiobible.com If you would like to give to help this podcast keep producing these daily podcasts click here to donate.
