In this message, we learn another beautiful Psalm of comfort and encouragement: Psalm 121. This Psalm was written to the Israelites for their dangerous journeys to Jerusalem. We can also lift our eyes up to the mountains and heavens and look to receive help from the Lord. God is always there and ready to help us. Our ultimate trust is found in Him. Even though the Psalm tells us that God will keep us from all harm, we know we will encounter suffering in this world. However, we will never be separated from God's purposes in us and evil will not have power over us. No matter what we face in life, we have a powerful God on our side. We can lift up our eyes to Him, and He will help and protect us.

Sometimes, God gives us a choice. No matter what we choose, we can serve God and glorify him on our path. Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”

This message is Part 8 of this series about Discovering God's Will and reminds us to hold our plans with an open hand and acknowledge God's sovereignty in our life. It is wise to make plans for our future, but we do not know what tomorrow will bring. 

James 4:13-15 says “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 

We do not get ahead of ourselves, but we learn to say "if it is the Lord's will".

This message is Part 7 of this series about Discovering God's Will and discusses how to know whether you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit or another voice. 1 John 4:1 tells us "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world”. 

To discern or test these voices, we can ask ourselves a few questions:

1) Does it lead me to sin?

2) Does it contradict the Bible?

3) Is it encouraging or discouraging? Is it convicting or condemning? There is a difference between conviction and condemnation.

God's voice is encouraging and reassuring, forgiving and merciful. God's voice will never contradict the Bible or lead us to sin. His voice will never make us feel bad about ourselves, and Romans 8:1 tells us “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.

This message is Part 6 of this series about Discovering God's Will and discusses how to hear God's voice when he speaks to us individually. Throughout Scripture and church history, we see that God loves to communicate with His people. Isaiah 30:21 tells us “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

God has given us the Holy Spirit through Jesus to communicate with us directly. To discern the work of the Holy Spirit better, our hearts needs to be attuned to hear better. We do this through creating quietness in our life, obedience to God's commands, and spending time with the Lord through prayer, conversation, and bible reading to become familiar with His voice. The Holy Spirit speaks in many ways including through nudges, convictions, other people, etc. 

John 10:27 - "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

This message is Part 5 of this series about Discovering God's Will and discusses how to discern God's will for decisions not found in the Bible. We use wisdom for these decisions such as what career path or who to date. Ephesians 5:15-17 tells us "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise...Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is".

To get wisdom, we are told to pray for it, and God will give it to us: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

We consult wise counsel to help make decisions. Proverbs 15:22 tells us "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

We also read the Bible to grow in wisdom. For example, the Bible might not us which person to befriend but it does tell us to not hang out with foolish people. The bible might not tell us whether to be a doctor or lawyer, but it does tell us that God gave us certain gifts and to consider using wise counsel to discern those gifts.

This message is Part 4 of this series about Discovering God's Will, and this message discusses Micah 6:8- "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”.

We find God's revealed will in the Bible and never need to question if God wants us to love our neighbor, speak truthfully, or to not gossip or cheat. God also gave us His revealed will through Micah 6:8. Acting justly means doing the right thing such as treating everyone the same regardless of social status. Loving mercy means to show loving-kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, just as God forgives us. Walking humbly with our Lord means to not think less of ourselves, but to think higher of God and depend on Him. These things are part of God's will for our lives.

This message is Part 3 of this series about Discovering God's Will, and we learn a few verses related to God's revealed will. First, we learn the importance of reading and relying on the Bible because God has revealed part of His will for us in it. Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp to my feet. And a light to my path." The Bible will illuminate the path God has for us. 

The Bible also has very clear parts of God's revealed will in it, and we learn two aspects: "It is God’s will that you should be sanctified “1 Thessalonians 4:3 and "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” –1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. God's will is that we should grow more holy as well as give thanks, be joyful, and pray throughout our day. 

In future messages, we will discuss another aspect of God's revealed will for our lives as stated in the Bible and how to navigate wisdom issues not explicitly stated in the Bible.

This message is Part 2 of this series about Discovering God's Will, and we learn two verses: Deuteronomy 29:29 "The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law" and Psalm 115:3 "Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases”.

There are two types of wills - God's hidden will and God's revealed will. God's hidden or sovereign will belongs to Him alone, and we might not understand until after it happens. God is in control and His purposes cannot be thwarted. 

In future messages, we will discuss God's revealed will for our lives as stated in the Bible and how to navigate wisdom issues not explicitly stated in the Bible.

This message briefly discusses Psalm 25:4-5 - "Show me your ways, Lord,
 teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."

To discover and understand God's will for our life, we must start with a humble heart and a desire to know it. It's having a heart posture with surrender and trust of God's plans for our lives. Future messages will discuss biblical instructions and how to make choices not found in the Bible.

This message discusses Isaiah 26:3-4 - "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal."

We can have this type of perfect peace that transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7) when our minds our "stayed" on God. We must choose to redirect our thoughts back to the Lord and not dwell on earthly problems (Colossians 3:2). This is an ongoing process for us and requires a choice. We can trust Him because the Lord is our everlasting rock - our eternal strength and security.

This message discusses Psalm 56:3 - "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you."

David was on the run from King Saul when he wrote this psalm, and like David, we can cast our anxieties on the Lord and choose to trust Him. God gave us emotions such as fear, and it indicates something going on inside our hearts. We draw our fear out of our hearts, take it to God, and then choose to place our trust in Him and His promises.

This message discusses Psalm 20:7-8 - "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm."

Today, this verse might read "some trust in armored tanks" or "some trust in their bank account and friend groups". All these things can be helpful in our life but cannot compare to God. We are called to trust in the Lord, not in the things of this world. Those things come and go, but God is constant and has the power to truly save us.

This message discusses Jeremiah 29:11-13 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

How is God speaking to use through that verse today since it was a promise made to a particular group of people? God did not promise us a trouble-free life, but he does bring us a sense of deep peace and gives us hope and a future through our faith in Jesus. God's plans for us are better than we could ever imagine. Because of all this, we can place our trust in Him. The Lord wants us to seek Him with all of our hearts; He is waiting for us to turn to Him.

This message discusses Isaiah 41:10- "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." 

We can have faith and trust that God is with us. We do not need to be discouraged because God is bigger and more powerful than our circumstances. We can depend on God for His strength and help; his right hand symbolizes his authority in the world. We are not alone: when things are not going our way, we can turn to God for His help.

This message discusses Isaiah 55:8-9: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." 

Not only are God's ways different from ours, but they are far better. God's plans may not always make sense to us. Yet we can trust in Him because His wisdom and ways are much higher than ours.

This message discusses Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose".

If you are seeking or have a relationship with the Lord, you have been called according to His purpose. And that means that God is working in your life and working for your good.  

This verse does not mean that we will not face hardships, and this verse does not mean that our circumstances may change. We may not be able to see how He is working. But He is active and powerful. The "good" might be that God is working in us to make us more like Jesus, which is part of his purpose for us. 

Ultimately, we can trust that He has a good plan for our life and working things out for our good.
