This year for Christmas let's jump in to our hot red Ferarri and listen to some Outrun tunes. Roar joins us again to chat about some of the most iconic arcade racing jams out there, slip on your cozy jammies and have a mince pie and let's race!
We're back to normal from Megami Tensei month with another bit of a grab bag episode of Sunsoft soundtracks. Boin, who previously joined us for a mini-episode on Journey to Silius returns to talk about a little bit of Blaster Master, a lot of GIMMICK and a little more about City Hunter for the PC Engine. Sunsoft are almost as well regarded for their soundtracks as for their games, if not more so, so we have a good chat about the general sound for these games and especially the influence of Jazz Fusion and City Pop on the latter two soundtracks.
Our month of Megami Tensei closes with a great little pair of Shoji Meguro soundtracks for the Devil Summoner sub-series. These were both on the PS2 so have a very similar sound to what was in Persona 3 and especially the Digital Devil Saga games which we previously did an episode on way back in episode 4. Thanks to Aden for being able to join us to talk about these games and their very good soundtracks.

Third episode in our Megami Tensei month is a lesser known SNES duo of Strategy RPGs called Majin Tensei. The music by Hidehito Aoki is stunning and really pushes the SNES to its limits, there's hints of techno-industrial and early Synthwave throughout that give both games a real grimy aesthetic. Definitely worth checking out. Thanks to Teeps for joining us on short notice!
Back for week 2 of Megami Tensei month and it's finally time for me to talk about Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. It's one of my favourite RPGs on the Wii U/Switch and a real highlight in the series for me which is in no small part due to the music being exceptionally good even for a series that has notably great music as-is. Even though I don't really enjoy Fire Emblem, but the Fire Emblem stuff is more or less a bonus anyway, so I asked Nate from the 13 Sentinels episode to come back and provide some of the context for Fire Emblem that I am obviously missing. We also talk about Vagina Bones for a while because it's probably this game's biggest cultural legacy outside of the incredible JPop soundtrack.
We're going weekly for the month of November to talk about a bunch of Megaten soundtracks that I think deserve a bit more attention. Professor Tom of Shujin Academy VGM Club joins us to kick things off with some chat about Persona Q2, a Persona 5 Spinoff for the 3DS based on the Etrian Odyssey series. Enter the labyrinth with us and listen to some nice new tracks as well as great arrangements of tunes from Persona 3, 4 and 5.
Just me and Reese for this one and it's one we've been trying to get to for a while. Sayonara Wild Hearts is an album as an endless runner rail shooter rhythm game and as such it really should be played to get the full experience, but the music is excellent and we had a great chat about the game and how it weaves music and narrative.

Itself a fairly interesting game with some neat gameplay, however the main event here is the soundtrack by the Psytrance/Psybient artist Solar Fields whose synth heavy score provides the perfect backdrop for futuristic parkour and kicking guys off helicopters.
