Andrea has specialized in child and adolescent counseling since 2006. Her private practice is located in Weston, Florida where she serves children, teens, families, and college students.
Andrea fell in love with play therapy while in graduate school. She is a proud advocate of play and is currently the Chair for the South Florida Chapter of the Florida Association for Play Therapy. Adoption is her passion both professionally and personally, she enjoys using therapeutic play to heal attachment-related trauma.

#12- Identity, Trauma, & Music Therapy with Aksana Kavaliova, MTA

In this episode, Aksana shares her experiences working as a music therapist while eventually deciding to obtain another degree in trauma-informed care. She discusses elements of trauma work that she has incorporated into her current clinical work with children who have special needs and how it has changed her approach. Aksana also shares great resources for therapists looking to learn more about music therapy through the online conference for music therapy. Aksana graduated in 2008 with the Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology (with Distinction), and became Music Therapist Accredited (MTA) in February 2009. In May 2014, she graduated with a Master of Music in Music Therapy degree from the Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO). From 2008 to June 2018, she ran a music therapy private practice in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where she worked with several private schools and centers (including the Children's Academy) and numerous individuals with Autism, Down syndrome, intellectual and developmental disabilities, ADHD, anxiety disorders, and other conditions.
In July 2018, her family relocated to beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario (Canada), where she began her private practice. She recently completed her graduate practicum at the renowned Attachment and Trauma Treatment Centre for Healing (ATTCH) in St. Catharines and graduated with the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree. As if the changes weren't enough, in July 2019 she and her family moved back to Bahrain. She is now offering music therapy and counseling to children and adults and looking for opportunities to collaborate with other professionals through supervision, teaching/workshops, and presentations.

#11- Therapeutic Theater, Inclusion, and Collaboration with Angelle Cook, MA, RDT

In this episode, Angelle Cook, MA, RDT, discusses her passion for supporting people with various ability levels by creating a space where they can utilize performance in a therapeutic way. She explains the unique approach that A Place To Be, the agency she works for, has created in supporting individuals to reach their potential. She also talks about her unique research on the topic of inclusion and the benefits of drama therapy. Angelle is a supporter of collaborating with other creative arts therapists and covers her experiences working with music therapists at her agency. She's also an author, so go check out her book!
Angelle has been working with individuals from various populations (special needs, at-risk youth, mental health issues, college students) since 2002. She holds a Master’s Degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College. In 2016 she completed another advanced degree in Drama Therapy with the North American Drama Therapy Association and became a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). Drama therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals. This approach can provide the context for participants to tell their stories, set goals, and solve problems, express feelings, or achieve catharsis. As an RDT, Angelle uses the power of theater to support participants as they process, tell, and overcome their stories, along with helping them work through other obstacles in their lives.
Angelle is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University with a focus on therapeutic theater, which is the intentional use of live theater for therapeutic value for both the actors and the audience.
Angelle is also a published author and has one historical fiction novel out, “The Artist and the Soldier” which is based on true events during World War II.

She returned to graduate school when her own children were teenagers and graduated with masters degrees in clinical and school counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in 2012. Her counseling experience includes individual and group work with adults, children, and families in a mental health agency, elementary and middle school counseling, in-home family therapy for families with children at risk for out-of-home placement, and private practice including intensives (4-8 hour healing sessions) and momma retreats.
