Salt in the Beer?26 Feb 202500:49:58

Welcome in, thirsty friends! Greg went full beer tourist and drank his way through Austin, and he’s here to spill all the boozy details. Meanwhile Brewing served up his favorite beer of the trip—so good it forced him to break a years-long Untappd dry spell! Flex, on the other hand, is freezing his mustache off in the Midwest, sipping on a Toppling Goliath variety pack and confirming what we already knew: people on Untappd have no taste. The guys also dig into the absurdity of TSA screenings, the power of food truck barbecue, and the ongoing battle against Big Beer’s nonsense. Plus, why is Michelob Ultra so damn popular?

Beers We’re Drinking

Greg went on a Valentine's weekend trip to Austin, which quickly turned into a full-blown beer pilgrimage. From Meanwhile Brewing’s award-winning haze to Zilker and Lazarus Brewing, it was one tasty stop after another. Flex, meanwhile, has been battling negative temperatures and living in a hoodie. The guys discuss TSA’s fascination with Greg’s “oversized package” and reminisce about the best airport snacks (Southwest’s Maui onion pretzels for the win). Greg also recounts a wedding night in Asheville that ended with gin-fueled regrets and a long nap on the cold bathroom floor. Meanwhile, Flex reveals his grandma’s secret to beer drinking (spoiler: salt) and the guys dunk on Michelob Ultra drinkers.

Booze News (Revised)

  • Big Beer Strikes Again – Another craft brewery is calling out Molson Coors for some sneaky marketing. Haven’t they learned their lesson from that $56 million lawsuit?
  • Super Bowl Beer Sales Fumble – While the Chiefs took home the trophy, draft beer sales took a hit. But somehow, Michelob Ultra is thriving. We have questions.
  • New DUI Limit Proposal: Will It Change Anything? – North Carolina wants to lower the legal limit to .05. But will it actually stop drunk drivers, or just ruin happy hour?
  • Guam’s Most Honest Drunk Driver – When asked how much he had to drink, his answer was… refreshingly straightforward.

Beerconomics: A Study in Pour Financial Decisions19 Feb 202500:41:27

Greg and Flex are back, beers in hand, ready to talk about all the important things—like how much Michelob Ultra dominated the Super Bowl (gross), why THC drinks might be too much for Flex’s delicate balance, and whether dropping $10K for $1 beers for life is a genius move or a financial disaster. Plus, Greg catches an old drinking buddy in the ultimate beer hypocrisy, and we dive into some truly ridiculous booze news, including yet another Japanese government worker losing sensitive data while drunk. Crack one open, because this one’s a ride!

Beers We’re Drinking

Greg’s Super Bowl involved beer, Mario Kart, and absolutely zero emotional investment in either team. Flex’s was a mix of a sick kid, some pretzel nuggets, and the stunning realization that his dad might actually be a white Samuel L. Jackson. But the real shocker? Greg caught an old drinking buddy slamming a certain beer that they swore off years ago!

Flex also dabbled in some THC experimentation, confirming that 6mg is his sweet spot but 10mg had him straight-up wobbly. Greg, on the other hand, revisits a dispensary freebie that was so bad it tasted like pure regret. And just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, we break down the tragic beer choices from Super Bowl Sunday (seriously, Michelob Ultra??).

Booze News:

  • Super Bowl Shotgun Showdown – Saquon Barkley just put on a beer-chugging clinic, but did he really finish it?
  • $1 Beers for Life? – A brewery is offering lifetime $1 pints—if you’re willing to shell out some serious cash first. Worth it? Let’s do the math.
  • Super Bowl Beer Wars – The top-selling beer in Kansas City and Philly might surprise (and disappoint) you.
  • Another Drunk Government Worker Loses Sensitive Files – When are they going to learn their lesson?

Dropping Logs and Drinking Beers18 Dec 202400:41:08

Welcome to the holiday chaos! Greg and Flex are back with plenty of laughs, holiday traditions, and beers that’ll make you question your life choices. Flex shares how his kids are basically his beer sommeliers, picking out a beer that pairs perfectly with… Crocs? Greg’s beloved annual “Dropping of the Yule Log” returns, and yes, it still sounds like the most festive dump. Plus, an actual super hero gets arrested, Christmas train shenanigans, and a surprising list of brewery ingredients that no longer need government approval. It’s a sleigh ride of stupidity, beer, and holiday spirit—ho ho hops!

Beers We're Drinking:

Flex dives into “Dad Life Goals” by letting his kids pick beers at the liquor store based solely on their shiny cans—what could go wrong? Greg, meanwhile, brings back his favorite holiday tradition, the Dropping of the Yule Log, leaving listeners in tears over its unintentional bathroom noises. The guys get real about hyped breweries charging insane prices, the sexiness of affordable beer, and Greg’s surprising champagne fiasco that ended with Uber Eats saving the day. Meanwhile, Flex daydreams of getting arrested in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume. Priorities.

Booze News:

  • TTB Gets Cool: Brewers no longer need approval to use ingredients like bananas, nuts, and rhubarb—less red tape, more beer.
  • Goat Patch Takes Over Pike’s Peak: Colorado Springs’ Goat Patch Brewing is acquiring Pike’s Peak Brewing, turning schools into breweries and keeping things local.
  • No Fun on the Train: A UK train company launches a low-alcohol beer campaign to stop people from getting shmammered mid-ride.
  • Constellation Sells Svedka: Sazerac adds yet another booze brand to its ever-growing liquor empire.
  • Batman Gets Booked: A man in a full Batman costume crashes his car, flees the scene, and fails sobriety tests—justice was served.
  • Drunk Driver Ratted Out by Mom: A 20-year-old claims he’s sober, but his own mom tells officers he can’t even walk straight.

The Beer Thief Sud-Spects Were Arrested29 Mar 202300:44:06

Get ready for another hoppy episode of Craft Beer Republic! In this week's episode, we're joined by the fabulous Erica from NeckNosh, as we dive into the world of sour beer festivals, Utah’s hatred of fun, beer pokers, stolen beer, and the best Cold IPAs.

-

Kicking things off, Erica tantalizes our taste buds with Chance of Crowds, a hazy IPA from Alibi Ale Works, while Greg indulges in the juicy goodness of Ectogasm, a hazy from Drekker Brewing.

-

Flex tells us about his invite to a sour beer festival at Mobcraft, and we debate the best fruit for sour beers. We pitch more pretzel necklace ideas to Erica. Someone left us a glowing review on Apple Podcasts; we needed to share it! And why are the B52s so awful?! Also, Flex LOVES Sabro hops.

-

Fontana Jim calls in to share his hatred of beer pokers. It turns out Erica owns multiple! Click here to see the video he is talking about.

-

We love to harp on Wisconsin for its weird laws surrounding underage drinking, but it turns out most states allow some form of teenage drinking. Are you in one of those states? In a real act of heroism, Fontana police recovered pallets of stolen beer. Constellation Brands beats Anheuser-Busch in a battle over the rights to Corona seltzer. Figueroa Mountain Brewing is releasing a non-alcoholic beer. And a list of the Best Cold IPAs.

We all talk about our St. Patrick’s day shenanigans and how we fared the next day. Lagerville is coming up in a few weeks, and we’ll be there. Use our code for a nice little discount.

-

Michael calls in to propose a show idea. And Beergirl Melissa drunk dials us to ask a question of the team.

-

SunnyD is coming out with a vodka seltzer, and no one is looking forward to it. Corona is coming out with a non-alcoholic version of its beer, just in case you love the taste. And if you need some Vegas tips, we've got the best-kept secret in sin city!

-

Our listener submitted Ludicrous Libation Law takes us to Michigan.

-

Not-so-punk BrewDog has a beer that's over $200 and doesn't even mess you up. The National Advertising Division puts an end to MolsonCoors calling Bud Light "water." And a drunk driver gets arrested after complaining about a cop's emergency lights.

We head to Washington, DC, for the Ludicrous Libation Law.

Kentucky Mule on the Loose11 Dec 202400:44:36

Welcome to Craft Beer Republic, where the beers are flowing and the stories are questionable! Greg’s kicking off the show from a two-week road trip with his priorities firmly set on beer and podcast gear (who needs clean clothes anyway?), while Flex brings the Thanksgiving drama, complete with late-start drinking and smoked turkey revelations. Meanwhile, Psycho Bear calls in with beer tips and maybe a murder plot, and Kentucky proves mules aren’t meant for high-speed getaways. Grab a beer and buckle up—it’s chaos in a can!

Beers We’re Drinking

Greg kicks things off by proving his priorities are in order: podcast gear over clean clothes for his road trip. Flex dives into Thanksgiving tales of smoked turkey and late-drinking drama, while Greg shares the tragic saga of a $400 ham disaster and how a family pregnancy almost derailed the mimosa tradition—until a heroic champagne run saved the day. Psycho Bear calls in with beer wisdom, sass, and a potential murder plot, and the guys debate whether marriage is really just a lifelong effort to stop men from doing dumb things.

Booze News

  • Blackout Wednesday Fizzles: Draft beer sales continue to slide on the biggest bar night of the year—are we losing our touch?
  • Michelob Ultra Reigns Supreme: The top draft beer for the second year running… and it’s only 4.2% ABV.
  • Stoli Files for Bankruptcy: Blame it on Russian interference, cyberattacks, or just bad luck—either way, vodka’s taking a hit.
  • Man Drives Drunk to Police Station: Pro tip: don’t show up to complain to the cops when your BAC is 0.22.
  • Drunk Mule Escape: A Kentucky man tries to flee police at 15 mph—on a mule.

Live from Pedals & Pints: These Guavas Are Making Me Thirsty!18 Jan 202300:43:49

Let’s get salty! We’re so excited to announce (and drink) our collaboration with Pedals and Pints head brewer Monica Potter: These Guavas Are Making Me Thirsty! It’s a Gose-style beer with guava added. It makes for a delightfully tart, crisp, and refreshing beer with some guava added to it and a hint of salt to balance things out.

-

To celebrate the beer release, we shared it with a live crowd at Pedals and Pints. We talked about the collab beer, Hummingbird Lager, Born to be Mild, and Pale Rider Pale Ale.

-

We also got to know Monica and asked about her background, love for beer, and so much more. We find out her background as a beer lover, getting into brewing and starting professionally, and how she got her start at Pedals. She also has a background in chemistry that lends perfectly to brewing. Now that she’s in charge, we get into her focus as a brewer, keeping up with demand, having so many different styles, starting to distribute, and how to stand out with so many great breweries around.

-

After finding out about Monica, we take listener questions. And we wrap things up with a round of rapid-fire questions.

-

A huge thanks to Monica for inviting us to collaborate with her. The entire process was a blast! And another huge thank you to Pedals & Pints for allowing us to come in and have a release party and live show!

-

Flex drinks King of the Thing, a double IPA from Drekker Brewing. Erica is sipping on Avenger, another DIPA from Loomis Basin Brewing. And Greg is reviewing Repeated Exposure, a Hazy from Four Legs Brewing.

-

Greg talks about his low-key travel-packed New Years. Erica did New Year's Eve with her kids at home and tricked them into going to bed early. Flex has a giant, multi-course feast that only could happen in Wisconsin. Listener Davis writes in to confirm Flex's super gross mid-west food and introduces us to beer poking. And Greg takes a road trip and brings back some beer for the road.

-

Chew Your Beer calls in to ask about chunky beer, and find out where Flex works.

-

Mumford Brewing and another southern California brewery close their doors. Roadhouse Brewery Group officially scoops up Melvin Brewing. Also, turns out a "Melvin" is something very different. -

Greg is drinking Home for the Holihaze from Pure Project and Burgeon Beer Co. Flex is sipping on Campanology Brewing's Tiramisu from Trader Joe's.

-

A financial investment has been made into a new website, and we're excited to share it. We have a live show at Pedals & Pints on January 13 to release our collab beer. The group went to Chew's house to celebrate Pozole Palooza 2022 and got to hang out with some beer friends. And hot off the success of the Pozole beer, Greg brews another homebrew.

You Know What? Happy New Year!28 Dec 202200:55:56

Happy New Year, mmkay! Beergirl Melissa stops in to hang out with us as we wrap things up before the New Year’s parties. We’re talking about our drunken Christmases, weird Wisconsin foods, Murky vs. Hazy beers, end-of-the-year beer lists, and our collaboration beer with Pedals & Pints!

-

Mel is drinking Cup of Gold Murky DIPA from Pure Project & Alvarado Street Brewing. Flex is sipping on King Julius from Tree House Brewing. And Greg is researching Focal Banger from The Alchemist

-

Big News: Greg brewed a collaboration beer with Monica from Pedals n Pints. There will be a live show on Friday, January 13, to celebrate! Intern Brian and Flex had a World Cup bet, but who’s the biggest loser? Mel talks about her very Italian Christmas and all the made-up food they ate (and wine they drank). Flex slept his way through the holiday. And thanks to illness, Greg’s festivities were quite laid back. Flex also turns us on to some weird, mid-western food. Mel’s beer leads to an important question: what’s the difference between murky and hazy? And we talked about hanging out with Mel’s husband off the air and all the craziness that ensued.

-

Many breweries are finishing the year by closing their doors; is this a sign of what’s to come in 2023? In the UK, ambulance drivers are on strike, and the government warns partiers to go easy on NYE. We’ve got the 7 New Champagne of Beers to Drink This New Year’s Eve. Flex: Part Time Scientist, Full Time Hunk21 Dec 202200:46:33

Grab your holiday beers; it’s time to celebrate! Deb joins us to help spread the holiday spirit and talk about Friendsmas, the dropping of the Yule Log, hot tub shenanigans, beer prices, and the worst beers of 2022.

-

Flex is sipping on his holiday class: Warmest Wished from Phase Three Brewing. Deb and Greg are drinking Celebration Fresh Hop IPA from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co

-

We’ve convinced Deb to start her own website; look for that in the new year. Greg talks about Friendsmas at Coley’s house, where a 9-year vertical of Black Tuesday was enjoyed. There was also a fair bit of blacking out. We get into some science about drinking water while getting hammered. And a favorite Christmas tradition around these parts: the dropping of the Yule Log. Also, what is Boxing Day really about?

-

Chicago is bringing us this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

-

Heineken is increasing their beer prices in the New Year. A drunk golfer gets lost and wanders off the green. And thanks to BeerAdvocate, we have the worst beers in the world.

The Best Hops & A Case of the Lingus14 Dec 202200:37:14

Have you ever had the lingus? The Dream Team has been reassembled, as Deb hangs with Flex and Greg. We’re talking about Deb’s new website, drinking in a ballpark, coffee science, the best brewery buyouts, great hops, and drunk Florida man.

-

Greg and Deb are drinking Babe Brew 7 w/Distraction Brewing Company; it’s an Oaked Porter. Flex is sipping on The Great Outdoors from BlackStack Brewing.

-

Greg talks about the Malibu Brewing episode and the excellent dinner they put on. We discuss the importance of putting cream in your coffee in the correct order…which do you do first? And what would you say to loved ones if you were in a plane crash? Also, Flex is very excited about some new beer coming to his local ballpark.

-

Chew Your Beer calls to talk about his recent drunken shenanigans and upcoming Pozole Palooza.

-

After failing to file for a second bankruptcy, Weyerbacher Brewing is sold. The Mad Fermentationist gives us the best hops, according to Untappd. Kern River Brewing is now employee owned. BrewDog loses its B Corp Status. And a drunk Florida man gets bored and burns down police cruisers.

Malibu Brewing Company07 Dec 202201:03:13

Greetings from Malibu, CA! Greg had the opportunity to sit with the Malibu Brewing Company crew. Ryan Ahrens is the co-owner and co-founder (with Jill Ahrens), and Chas Cloud is the brewmaster.

-

The recent winners at the 2022 Great American Beer Festival talked about winning their first year, opening their brewpub just a couple months ago, and planning (or pivoting) a brewery during a pandemic. Brewmaster Chas led us on a guided tasting of their delicious beers: Canyon Rose Lager, Happy Days Honey Blonde, Wild Grove Hazy IPA, and their brand-new Double IPA.

-

We get into the pasts of Ryan and Chas as beer drinkers and find out when they got bit by the hop bug. Ryan talks about his background as a nuclear scientist and lawyer (and many other things), while Chas talks about his long experience in the local brewing community. They also share their process for recipe creation and why good ingredients are crucial to making great beer.

-

Chas and Ryan talk about the focus of Malibu’s beer program, what sets them apart from other local breweries, and why it pairs so well with the great food in their taproom. We also find out what Chas is excited about with upcoming brews, collabs, and new hops. And it turns out Ryan also has a bit of a background in brewing. Chas also indulges us with the most annoying beer to make.

-

We wrap up the episode with a round of rapid-fire questions!

What Does Sour Beer Smell Like?30 Nov 202200:56:11

Does sour beer have a smell? Beergirl Melissa stops in to hang out and convince us to have a "CBR After Dark" version of the podcast. We're also talking about the sober world cup, Thanksgiving aftermath, the grossest-looking fruit, the weird saga of MacLeod Ale, and when to admit you're drunk.

-

Flex is sipping on Raspberry Tart from the elusive New Glarus Brewing. Mel is drinking Murphy's Law from District 96 and Ghost Hawk Brewing. Greg is enjoying Malibu Brewing's Oktoberfest.

-

Are you watching the world cup? Hopefully, not from the stadium where you can't drink any beer. We're talking about our Thanksgiving break, and it turns out that there's a "pasta course" during dinner. Flex got drunk with his in-laws, and Melissa is starting a new 800 service for hot Italians. And we're tackling the big questions, like what is a snake fruit?!

-

Chew calls in to talk about Atrevida Beer in Colorado Springs.

-

MacLeod Ale out of Los Angeles is having all kinds of weird drama. San Francisco's Cellarmaker Brewing acquires The Rare Barrel. Another cop shows up drunk to work. A drunk lady hits a pole and doesn't hide it. And we have a crucial conversation about giving directions.

Chunked Out of Your Bean23 Nov 202200:42:12

Gobble gobble, tap heads! Coley is back, and we’re talking about dangerous drinking activities, brewery sellouts, hanging out with moose, drunken teachers, and free beer!

-

Coley brought Greg a delicious can of Jelly Not Jam, Lemon, Strawberry, and Vanilla from Burley Oak Brewing

-

The beer we’re drinking leads to Coley’s favorite joke of all time. Greg went axe throwing and drinking (sounds safe). Coley got hooked up with some fantastic free beer. And we address the age-old question of do we accept free beer from breweries that sell out?

-

Alaska is still coming in strong with Ludicrous Libation Laws. Any thirsty moose out there? And what’s the plural for moose? Meese? Mooses?

-

BANG! Energy drink is in trouble for some false advertising. Brewery taproom traffic is back to pre-pandemic levels. Roadhouse Brewing announces they intend to purchase Melvin Brewing. Michigan is looking to make cocktails-to-go a permanent feature. New Glarus is going to reclaim its CO2. Coronado Brewing is now distributing with Stone. And a drunken teacher gets chunked out of his bean and is banned from teaching.

Coley makes her triumphant return to the cool kids club. We’re talking about weekend beer research, upcoming interviews and beer collaborations, the effects of day drinking, situational beers, brewery closures, and drunk cops!

-

Flex is drinking Viking Funeral from Four Fathers Brewing, thanks to Zack. The homie You’re your Beer sent Greg and Coley Timbo Pills from Highland Park Brewery.

-

Greg spends the weekend doing some important beer research, has some weird pineapple beer, and gets an interview with Malibu Brewing. There’s also a big upcoming collab! Finally, Flex does his influencer flexing at Eagle Park and gets himself a tour.

-

Chew calls to mark the beginning of stew weather and ask about our situational beers.

-

Dr. Pepper buys a big stake in Athletic Brewing Company. Port/Lost Abbey is downsizing and selling equipment. Modern Times closes a location and finalizes the deal with Maui Brewing. A cop shows up to a call and ends up arresting himself.

Keep Your Free Beer to Yourself04 Dec 202400:43:37

Welcome in, fellow beer drinkers! Greg and Flex are back for another episode of Craft Beer Republic, and this time, the shenanigans are extra juicy. From brunch-induced chaos to beer trades that make us question our morals, the duo dives deep into life, laughs, and some seriously good beer. Plus, we discover Flex’s undying love for mashed potatoes and find out why Greg might owe “Not Murderer John” a little something extra for bringing him Treehouse beer. Sacramento, congrats on being our top listening city—sorry about the shade! Let’s raise a glass and get hydrated!

Beer We’re Drinking:

  • Greg: Little Machine by Treehouse Brewing – A 5.5% hazy pale ale bringing strong notes of pineapple, candied tropical fruit, and grapefruit, with gorgeous lacing that is borderline pornographic.
  • Flex: Spellbinder by Wren House Brewing – A 6.9% hazy IPA bursting with tangerine and stone fruit flavors, earning top marks and a spot in Flex’s dream beer lineup.

Greg kicks things off by recounting a brunch-turned-binge session that ended with some couch therapy and a bathroom confession. Flex shares his love for mashed potatoes—seriously, it’s a borderline love affair—and the two dream up a mashed potato flight that’s sure to revolutionize brunch menus everywhere. Pilot Tom earns Flex's eternal gratitude with a beer hookup, while Greg sings the praises of Non-Murderer John, whose beer generosity keeps on giving. And Greg keeps it classy with more wine drinking. Oh, and Sacramento? You may be our top listening city, but you’re still boring. Sorry, not sorry.

Booze News:

  • High ABV beers boom: Big beers are outselling hard seltzers—efficiency in a can!
  • Black is Beautiful creator’s next act: Marcus Baskerville is opening a San Antonio spot where fried chicken meets craft beer.
  • New Belgium offloads Upper Hand Brewery: The high hand of craft changes owners, but the beer stays local.
  • Tequila heist madness: 24,000 bottles of Santo Tequila vanish in an Ocean's 13-style operation.

I’m Not Drunk, The Ghost Made Me Do It!09 Nov 202200:36:13

Spencer is back for another week of abuse. The crew is talking about brewery concerts, meeting up with gram friends, the most annoying thing while working at a brewery, buying drinks for people, fake IDs, and blaming ghosts for driving crazy.

-

Greg and Spencer are drinking West Coast Freshie from Monkish Brewing. Flex is sipping on Demo Track from Eagle Park Brewing. It’s an open-fermented West Coast IPA.

-

Greg went to Naughty Pine’s emo night and ran into a bunch of beer friends. Spencer talks about the most annoying questions he gets while working at a brewery. He also does a great job walking us through what an open-fermented beer is.

-

Maryland is making things awkward with this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

-

Boston Beer is rolling out a new tequila RTD cocktail. New York is cracking down on fake IDs…supposedly. It turns out DogfishHead isn’t worth as much as Sam Adams paid for it. A drunk guy in Florida has a spooky excuse for damaging his car. And 15 classic beers you should (maybe) revisit.

Breaking! Greg Drinks Pumpkin Beer and Lives!02 Nov 202200:51:27

Good gourd, is it still pumpkin season? MadeWest Cellarman and all-around nice guy Spencer drops in to talk about what’s happening at MadeWest, and all the new beer he’s making. The crew also talks about the worst candy of 2022, Flex’s trip to Nashville, turning beer into spirits, and drunk captains running ships aground.

-

Spencer brought Bottle Logic Brewing’s Basic Math Pumpkin Spice Latte barley wine to share with Greg. Flex is drinking Titletown Brewing’s Red Rum Imperial Red Ale.

-

Greg talks about his brew day with Chew Your Beer, and their upcoming pozole party. Then, flex grabbed the fam and went down to Nashville for some beer research and relaxation. And everyone asks Spencer about what he does at MadeWest, what beer he’s working on, upcoming projects, and more!

-

Fontana Jim calls in to give some advice for anyone that’s making the trip out to GABF next year.

-

In honor of Halloween, we have the worst candy of 2022, and the list is very accurate. BrewDog is turning their reject beer into reject vodka. And a drunk captain runs his container ship aground.

The Roll Tide Remix & Autumn Seltzers26 Oct 202200:37:23

What do you think is the worst candy? Halloween season is upon us, and we are drinking ZERO pumpkin beers! Trillium is selling their brewery, Flex is influencing new breweries, Bud light Seltzers just got worse, Greg is partying at local breweries, and the Roll Tide remix!

-

Thanks to Great Notion, the whole crew is sipping on Ripe, a hazy IPA jammed with Citra and Citra Cryo hops.

-

Flex was invited to Lion’s Tale Brewing’s soft opening of their new spot and did some excellent research. Greg stops by the 5th anniversary for 14 Cannons to sample all the new beer releases and party with the Scuba Kids. Erica and Greg are disgusted by Flex’s love of Circus Peanuts and other horrendous candy. Flex loves a lot of awful candy. He also likes hotdog-flavored beers.

-

Thanks to Alabama for this week’s very confusing Ludicrous Libation Law. Roll Tide!

-

Evil Genius Brewing is making a Burger IPA for White Castle. Bud Light is upping its gross game with new seltzer flavors. Heineken is not far behind with their new “healthy” beer. Trillium Brewing is to consolidate operations and sell its original location. And a drunk man urinates in a parking lot in Cleveland.

Cargo Shorts Were Made For Drinking19 Oct 202200:42:28

Erica stops in to celebrate Nosh-toberfest! We’re talking about the Surf n Suds beer festival, Erica’s Aftershock aftermath, sneaking booze in sunscreen bottles, and hangover recovery times.

-

Erica is drinking Rocktoberfest from Almanac Beer Co. Flex is drinking his buddy’s collaboration with MobCraft Brewing, Bobbin’ for Caramel. And Greg is drinking Totally Excellent, an IPA from Tarantula Hill and Kern River Brewing

-

Greg hung out with the homie Chew Your Beer at the Surf n Suds beer festival, and both got EXTREMELY hydrated. There’s also a collaboration beer in the works. Erica went to Aftershock and did a great job sneaking in booze and avoiding black eyes. Flex talks about the good ol’ days of getting too drunk and sick at work; now, the hangovers last way too long. How long is your typical recovery?

-

California raised the limit on the number of satellite locations that breweries can open. Mikkeller is closing up shop in San Francisco. Heineken is launching a new beer combo, and it sounds awful. A drunk outlaw leads police on horseback. And a suspected ‘impaired’ driver in Florida… wasn’t drunk at all.

Flex, The Influencer!12 Oct 202200:46:49

Flex and Greg are here with the healthiest alcohols, beer prices around the NFL, a California beer road trip, getting wine-wasted, and a genuinely drunk voicemail!

-

Greg is sipping on Sea Haze, a hazy IPA from Firestone Walker & Humble Sea Brewing. Flex is drinking Zwub, an IPA from Oliphant Brewing

-

Flex is quite the influencer and has been invited by a local brewery to check out their new spot. He’s also getting ready to head to Nashville and needs some tips! But no country music. Greg just returned from drinking his way through a road trip across half of California. Flex has a question for Greg about beer terms, and we discuss the perfect podcast length. What do you think it is?

-

Thanks to Louisiana for this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

-

Listener Michael leaves a very drunk voicemail from Naughty Pine’s anniversary party.

-

The World Cup will have drunk tanks, so attendees don’t get arrested. Great Notion is finally opening up its California taproom. California permanently changes the law to allow craft distillers to ship their booze. We find out the price of beer at every NFL stadium. Anniversaries & Surviving the Great American Beer Festival05 Oct 202200:46:08

Who’s ready for an anniversary party? Nic Bortolin, co-owner & head brewer at 14 Cannons, stops in to talk about the big five-year anniversary party on October 15. We’re also talking about the Great American Beer Festival, the big news in Milwaukee, the best Marzens for Oktober, and how bad things are getting in New Jersey.

-

Greg is drinking 14 Cannons Marooner Marzen, while Nic is drinking K-17 Czech Dark Lager. Flex is sipping on I’m Calling About Your Vehicle’s Extended Warranty from Youngblood Beer Co

-

Nic tells us about the fun going down at the anniversary party: FOUR new beers are dropping (including his first hazy), the food trucks, and his band, the Scuba Kids, are headlining! He also talks about his upcoming trip to GABF, the beers that they are entering, and the hangover cures to make it through the weekend of festivities. We also ask him the hard questions like what his favorite pumpkin beer is, and what happened to Cold IPAs?

-

Chew Your Beer calls in to talk about a new collab beer, getting beer-chunky for the fall, and wearing short shorts.

-

Big news in Flex’s hood, Milwaukee Brewing has been purchased by Eagle Park Brewing. On the other side of town, Molson Coors employees in Milwaukee are picketing over a lack of a contract. Massachusetts proves that they’re awful by vetoing happy hour. A brewery in New Jersey is suing the ABC over all of the insane brewery rules. And we’ve got the 10 best Marzens/Festbiers of 2022.

Beer Force Ones28 Sep 202200:39:30

Give me two beers; I need two beers! Erica stops by to hang with Flex and Greg and learn a little country grammar. We’re sharing a delicious beer, doing some football drinking, selling pretzels in booty shorts, and getting all astrological with our beers.

-

Thanks to Great Notion, we’re all drinking Patterns, a hazy DIPA.

-

Greg hit up a few spots for beer research and ran into some beer friends. The fantasy football season is going very smoothly for CBR. Deb catches a commercial stealing our theme song (and she’s Ford tough). And Flex is ready to suit up and sell pretzels at the Great American Beer Festival next year.

-

Thanks to Iowa for being lame with this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

-

Draft beer sales are thanks to the return of Football season. Packaged beers are getting more expensive than ever. Are you loving IPLs? We’ve got the top 7 according to Untappd. What’s your sign? Because we’ve got a beer for you! Erica shares her guilty pleasure beer and won’t be invited back (joking). And a teacher gets drunk on her way to school and plays a little bumper car.

A Place Where The Beer Flows Like Wine21 Sep 202200:40:01

Who wears short shorts? Flex, of course. Erica comes in from Capistrano to hang out. We’ve got the best breweries near NFL stadiums, Flex is hulking up, Greg does a ton of road trip research, Erica is getting ready for a festival, and lagers are cool again!

Erica is drinking Numb and Number from Fall River Brewing…and totally redeems herself! Greg is sipping on Holy Bones, a Black IPA from Boneyard Beer, and Holy Mountain Brewing.

Flex has the alcohol metabolism of She-Hulk, and is gearing up for Halloween! Greg went to his first concert since Covid and did lots of research in Orange County (looking at you, Radiant). Erica is getting ready to ditch her kids and go to Aftershock. And we all talk about the importance of pre-gaming a concert. And Flex’s friend won a beer competition and had his recipe made!

The homie Chew Your Beer calls in to talk about Busta Rhymes and the beer selection at Dodger Stadium. He also has advice for Flex.

Heineken snatches up another brewery. Lagers are cool again, according to Drizly. Dunkin’ and Harpoon Brewing are at it again with some basic beer flavors. Dogfish Head is cutting costs and closing a taproom. And the best breweries near NFL stadiums.

Der Vati Likes Oktoberfest!14 Sep 202200:45:35

Guten tag vater, ich brauche ein Bier. Es ist Oktoberfest! Beergirl Melissa is joining das fest as we celebrate the beginning of Oktoberfest! We’re drinking all German-style beers, sharing Oktoberfest fun facts, doing some major day drinking, and finding out how drunk Wisconsin is.

Flex is drinking Phase Three Brewing’s Oktoberfest. Mel is sipping on Wallenpaupack Brewing’s Oktoberfest. And Greg is researching Heater Allen’s Marzen.

Mel shares the secret to getting kids out of your house (important for drinking time). Greg leaves a vacation early but finds a new spot to conduct research on the way back. The crew discusses the importance of not bringing crappy beer to festivals and the problem with good beer at dive bars.

This week’s Ludicrous Libation Law comes from, you guessed it, Germany!

Milwaukee Brewing is being purchased by a brewery in Chicago. Wisconsinites drink a lot! Youngsters (of legal age) are buying beer for the artwork. The beer community has started “Drinking in Another State” to help the industry with reproductive care. It turns out that people are getting drunker earlier in the day. And Oktoberfest fun facts for the beginning of the festival!

Breaking! Flex Drinks Bud Light Next and Lives!07 Sep 202200:41:03

We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Flex is back! We’re talking about some new breweries, drinking with Instagram friends, trouble for hop growers, and Flex has some awful news to share about what he’s been drinking.

Flex is sipping on Desert Noise from Eagle Park Brewing. Greg is drinking Cactus Cat from Ogopogo Brewing.

Greg talks about the party Pedals & Pints threw for Emo Night and what a great job Monica and Brit did on their emo collab beer. He also got to hang out with friend-of-the-show Fontana Jim at Naughty Pine. Flex did unofficial research with friends who gave him a Bud Light Next; not most incredible friends. He also tried to get drunk from some 450 North cans, but there wasn’t any alcohol; now, he just has fruit flies.

Chew Your Beer calls in to give Greg the business about his feelings on Untappd.

Mikkeller closes its San Diego taproom and production facility but still won’t address the real problem. In October, Maui Brewing and Modern Times will be under the “Craft Ohana” umbrella. Sapporo officially closes on their deal with Stone Brewing; another one bites the dust (this becomes a therapy session). Another San Diego brewery, Green Flash, is hitting the auction block this month. And German hop crops are not doing so well with the drought, it might be time to find some new varietals and we have questions.

Drunksgiving: The Beer Before the Bird27 Nov 202400:46:45

Welcome in to a festive edition of Craft Beer Republic! ‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the bar, everyone was drunk, from near and afar. We’re bringing you Thanksgiving week beer science, a heated debate on food vs. beer at breweries, and the ultimate guide to "Drunksgiving" boozing. Plus, we roast the bizarre world of shots (spoiler: gin shooters are the worst) and vent about Massachusetts still refusing to legalize happy hour.

Beers We’re Drinking:

  • Flex is sipping on Joe Joe's Chocolate Vanilla Cream Stout by Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, a smooth and sweet stout, perfect for Thanksgiving indulgence.
  • Greg dives into beer science with Rolling Thunder 2024 Imperial Stout by Rogue, a boozy stout, paired with its whiskey counterpart, Dead Guy Whiskey.

Thanksgiving week kicks off with Greg and Flex sharing stories about the chaotic traditions of “Drunksgiving,” from packed bars to running into people you’d rather avoid. The debate over food versus beer at breweries sparks some laughs and unexpected takes, with Flex looking at it from a family angle and Greg holding onto his beer-first mindset. They also dig into the surprising buzz around Trader Joe’s beer selection, and all the single can fun! Finally, the duo takes on the sudden obsession with All I Want for Christmas Is You and debates whether it’s always been a classic or just recently found its fame. Are you tired of that song yet?

Booze News:

  • Molson Coors Takes a $41M Hit: Divesting craft brands turns into a pricey tax write-off.
  • Stone Brewing Goes Local: Say goodbye to Stone beers abroad as exports are axed.
  • Massachusetts Hates Fun: The state keeps its outdated happy hour ban alive and well.
  • Florida Man Strikes Again: A spaghetti toss turns into a felony—pasta has never been so dangerous.
  • Thanksgiving Beer Facts: Fun trivia, including the Mayflower’s emergency beer stop.

The Rise of Beerflation31 Aug 202200:45:00

We’re penny-pinching our way to a couple of great beers this week! We’ve got drunk city council members, Shooter McGavin arrested for a DUI, new brewery field trips, cringy open mic nights, and the cheapest cities to drink a beer!

Greg and Shannon are drinking POG Tart from Eureka Brewing Company out of Gardena, CA. Erica is sipping on Babe Brew 6 Hazy IPA from Saint-Houblon up in Canada, eh.

Are you ready for pumpkin beers? The crew is split on whether to drink them or not. Greg and Shannon accidentally walk into an open mic night at a favorite brewery, and boy, was it awkward! They also talk about the crazy drunk women at a cocktail bar that were doing their best to try and get arrested.

We’re off to Connecticut for this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law…and we don’t concur.

Cape May Brewing is being sued over stealing (allegedly) Shore Tea. It’s official: beer is way too expensive. Allagash is adding their first core IPA to the lineup. Shooter McGavin thinks he can get out of trouble for being… Shooter McGavin. An Indiana woman leads police on a long, slow-speed chase. And we have the cheapest and most expensive cities to drink a beer in.

Drinking Around The World24 Aug 202200:45:35

Pack your bags; we’re drinking around the world! We’re sipping on some lagers, getting famous in the UK, talking trivia, getting angry at Untappd users, drinking some homebrew, and getting pulled over while high.

It turns out that the UK is in love with the Craft Beer Republic. Erica talks about her big news with the Great America Beer Festival. She’s also got chicken drama and a snake that tried to attack her while she was getting a beer. Greg talks about hosting a trivia night on the gram and the a-holes that play at breweries but never buy any beer. The crew talks about the new hats in the CBR store (go check them out) and then does their best to offend everyone. And Greg brings up the Untappd reviews for Morning Watch (spoiler: he’s not pleased).

Thanks to Vanessa, everyone is drinking Lager Me Bro, Tripping Animals Miami Beer Week collaboration beer. In the bullpen, Greg and Shannon are drinking Captain Kolsch, his latest homebrew.

Scales, a rapper from the Nappy Roots, was robbed, kidnapped, and shot at his own brewery. Modern Times plans to lay off over 100 employees before the final sale to Maui. Sonic hard seltzer is now the official hard seltzer of a major sporting league. Mexico is looking to end beer production in the north (this leads to some inspiring stories). A Florida teen was pulled over for not being drunk, but he was very honest. And the top 10 countries that drink the most beer per capita.

Czech The Box with Black IPAs17 Aug 202200:38:40

The beast is about to be unleashed! Stone loses in court, a drunk tourist plunges into an empty pool, black IPAs, the idiots of Untappd, and a DUI in a golf cart…in Florida.

Greg is sipping on Murkaveli, a double hazy from Pure Project & Weathered Souls Brewing. Scott is drinking Steamworks Brewing Black Angel IPA.

We’re topping the podcast charts in more foreign countries; wonder what they’re drinking? COVID is making its way through the CBR family, and it’s boring. Flex is doing homework from Eagle Park Brewing and their Czech Pils. Greg is still waiting for his knighthood from the Order of the Hops.

Kansas brings us this week’s (most likely) racist Ludicrous Libation Law.

Ale Asylum’s plans fell through and had to close permanently. Monster energy drink is dropping a new malt beverage this year; strap in! A judge rejects Stone’s attempt to squash Keystone. A Florida woman is arrested for racing her golf cart down a highway. Some drunk tourist in Crete goes swimming in an empty pool. And the 12 Highest Rated Black IPAs of 2022 from Untappd.

Batch316: Oh Hell Yeah!10 Aug 202200:38:30

Batch 316 says I just whipped your @$$! Scott makes his big return to podcasting! Flex gets punched in the face, it's a sad day in sports, Greg's birthday brewery crawl, Goose Island is dropping more barrel-aged garbage, and Florida Man has been drinking again.

In honor of Batch 316, Scott and Greg are drinking El Segundo Brewing's Broken Skull IPA. Flex is getting hazy with Drekker Brewing's Goon Platoon. This leads to a critical Flex Algorithm conversation.

Greg talks about his birthday weekend full of brewery crawls, fancy dinners, and even some bad beer (that no one finished). The guys talk about the enormous loss of Vin Scully. Flex goes to a concert, gets real emo, and then gets punched in the face (and his wife has words).

Maui Brewing is officially taking the keys to Modern Times…eventually. A judge affirms Stone's ruling against MolsonCoors. But Stone gets smacked on the hand for trying to milk Molson for even more money. Firestone Walker's Matt Brynildson receives what might be the most prestigious honor in all of beer. And Florida Man has been drinking at Walmart again!

Batch315: Healthy Beer for Old People!03 Aug 202200:40:44
Aloha, land lovers! This week, the salty crew is talking about vacation beers, beer styles that should make you angry, weird drinking laws for teachers, and why alcohol is good for you!

Erica is researching Crooked Lane Brewing & East Brother Beer’s collaboration Schwarzbier. Greg is sipping on MadeWest Brewing & Pizza Port Brewing Short Lived West Coast IPA.

Greg is angry about breweries and their naming, like really angry. Also, he kegged his latest homebrew and can’t wait to share it with everyone. Erica packs up and heads to Hawaii to drink her way across the islands and meets up with some influencers. And it turns out that Greg can’t get seasick, how about you? Flex and Greg discuss how awful Bob Dylan is (there’s a natural transition, we promise).

Alabama gets very specific with its Ludicrous Libation Law.

Russian River brings a lot of money to the community with the help of Pliny the Younger. A new study says alcohol is good if you’re over 40. A drunk driver blames COVID for his insane ride home and losing his tires. A drunk Massachusetts man barks at dogs and kisses a child; very Boston of him. And fun facts about Dildo Brewing and Dildo, Canada.

Batch314: Brewery Catfishing & The Insignificance of IBUs27 Jul 202200:54:12
Welcome to the pant-less pub! Neck Nosh’s Erica stops in to make things extra salty with Flex and Greg. A packed show as the crew talks about the insignificance of IBUs, our big anniversary, Flex’s invite to a special beer event, getting catfished by a brewery, Sour Jim’s new business, and belligerent Buddhists.

Flex is drinking MobCraft Beer’s Low pHunk Rad-Berry sour. Greg and Erica are sipping on Fall River Brewing - Numb Numb Juice Hazy IPA.

Do IBUs really matter anymore? Greg has a recap of Naughty Pine’s Emo Fest. Flex was invited to MobCraft’s Weirdfest preview night and had some bizarre beers. Erica lets it out that she has zero idea of the rules of cornhole. And Greg and Erica reminisce about being hammered the weekend of the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival.

The homie Chew Your Beer calls in to tell us about getting catfished by a brewery. What is the requirement to call yourself a brewery?

Sour Jim reveals his next venture after leaving Firestone Walker. MolsonCoors will be the first “other” alcohol to be featured at the Super Bowl. Sierra Nevada is closing their Berkley location. And a Buddhist Monk is busted for drinking the COVID away.

Batch313: Inbetweener Beers20 Jul 202200:45:03
What’s the funniest brewery name you’ve ever seen? Zack from Indiana jumps on with Flex and Greg to talk about “inbetweener” beers, setting the right expectations for customers, the best beer prank, more sellout breweries, and Canadian beer with a racy name.

Zack is drinking Wiseacre Brewing’s Bow Echo hazy IPA. Flex is sipping on ‘Scuse Me, a pale ale from Ope! Brewing. Greg is reviewing Brewery X’s Signature Series Volume III.

Wakeboarding is tough when you’re old; just ask Greg. At least he found a new lake beer – Firestone Walker Mind Haze Light. The crew talks about an essential beer – the intbetweener. What’s yours? Turns out the Midwest has a funny way of saying Modelo (thanks Flex), and the jury is still out on apricot. And Flex hammers the importance of setting expectations with beer names. And did you know there was a town in Canada called Dildo? They have a brewery.

Alaska is coming back around for Ludicrous Libation Laws.

Pliny the Younger brings millions in economic impact; it sounds like an important beer. Melvin Brewing is looking for a “partner”… *cough* buyer. Monday Night Brewing is expanding…again. And the highest-rated beers (so far) of 2022!

Batch312: National Do You Want Some Day in New Jersey13 Jul 202200:43:24
Do you f’n want some?! Everyone’s favorite Gary-ian Zack drops in to talk about his life as a carnie, 4th of July shenanigans, the pitfalls of “just one more beer,” weird news in the craft beer world, crazy drunk dads, and New Jersey trying to be the worst state for beer.

Zack is drinking The Beach Within Reach, a Berliner Weisse from Wiseacre Brewing out of Memphis, TN. Flex and Greg are both drinking Mind Haze Hopical Crush, compliments of Firestone Walker Brewing Co.

Greg talks about the upcoming emo-fest at Naughty Pine Brewing on July 16. Flex talks about his birthday extravaganza, drinking beers, not watching fireworks, and going to Wolf Lodge. Zack talks about his 4th of July, traveling food business, and being a certified carnie. Greg talks about his holiday celebrations and the Jello shots that Coley forced down his throat, as well as ending the night with multiple sours.

Greg also discovered he left a drunk voicemail while in San Diego celebrating Vanessa’s birthday.

The crew discovers that New Jersey is trying to become the worst state. EVER. Brewery X shocks everyone and pulls out of the Modern Times purchase. Scotch Whiskey is finally a certified category in the US. Get ready for some spiked coconut water. There’s a new burger/beer collaboration between Tarantula Hill and The Habit. And a drunk dad has a little too much alone time and attacks his neighbor.

Batch311: Daddy’s Back and He’s Rocking a Mullet06 Jul 202200:35:30
Coley is back, and so is daddy! The crew is talking about homebrewing for the summer, the mullet of beers, getting drunk and losing things, beer recalls, and the worst joke you’ll ever hear.

Flex is drinking Citrus’d, an IPA from Lion’s Tail Brewing in Wisconsin. Coley and Greg are sipping on Jelly Not Jam, a fruited sour from Burley Oak Brewing.

Greg talks about his weekend full of homebrewing, and what’s coming up for the summer. He also needs some help finishing his beer. And Coley is getting ready to mix up some Jello shots. We also start talking about some sexy mullets.

Iowa is really bringing things down in this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

MolsonCoors recalls their gross beer. The Qualified Captain and Cape May are collabing again on Boat Ramp Champ Helles. ABinBev is going to share the commercial space during the Super Bowl. A drunk guy loses some important, top-secret information while out on the town. And a drunk man crashes and then urinates in public.

We wrap things off with a list for Flex; the Top 10 Fruited Sours of 2022.

Batch310: San Diego Wishes & Caviar Bumps29 Jun 202200:44:43
Our best beer friend Coley drops in to hang with Flex & Greg as we circle the globe to uncover the beer stories you won’t stop talking about. We’re drinking expensive beer, snacking on caviar, meeting strangers from Instagram, and talking about the HUGE news in the beer world (cough, Stone).

Coley and Greg are drinking Urban Artifact’s Astronaut Food — Blackberry & Raspberry, a comically expensive fruited sour. Flex is sipping on I Got My Cicerone on Untappd from Youngblood Beer Company.

Greg and Coley packed the jet and went to San Diego for Vanessa’s (the_real_beer_vixen) birthday. They hung out with some awesome people from the gram, drank their way through the city, had caviar bumps, and so much more! Flex met up with some gram friends for his Monday lunch beer sesh.

Chew Your Beer calls in with a full recap of Cellador’s Friends Fest beer festival.

If you haven’t heard by now, Stone Brewing has sold out to Sapporo. It’s still weird. Will you keep buying Stone beers? Sour Jim leaves Firestone Walker Brewing. Figueroa Mountain Brewing is taking over some legendary Los Angeles beer spots. Modern Times is acquired by Anaheim’s Brewery X at auction. And some drunk kids scooted right into a cop car; whoops!

No Flies in My Beer20 Nov 202400:53:16

Holiday chaos, strange beer laws, and plenty of laughs—Greg and Flex are here to keep things fun and boozy. They swap stories about classy (and not-so-classy) wine adventures and some unexpected marathon strategies involving pork chops. With debates over the best pizza, insider beer tips, and all the usual banter, this episode has something for every craft beer fan.

Beers We’re Drinking:

  • FlexOne Cat on the Chessboard by Fat Orange Cat Brewing – A New England-style single-hop IPA showcasing Eldorado hops with notes of pear, peach, and candied watermelon.
  • GregCelebration Fresh Hop IPA by Sierra Nevada Brewing – A holiday classic, blending piney hops and rich caramel malt for a crisp, bitter blast of holiday cheer.

Greg shares his latest wine party escapades, this one at a swanky restaurant, while Flex marvels at the magic of single-can purchases at Trader Joe’s. Did you know that you can break cans off at Trader Joe's? We also cover quirky Connecticut laws in Ludicrous Libation Law, debate the best pizza styles (sorry Chicago), and recount hilarious marathon stories involving pork chops and our friend Lou. We also reflect on what makes a holiday beer truly special.

Booze News:

  • The Leinenkugel family isn’t happy about recent closures at their iconic brewery.
  • MobCraft Beer has been sold, raising questions about the challenges of surviving in today’s craft beer market.
  • Wicked Weed’s Funkatorium in Asheville faces indefinite closure due to hurricane-related water outages.
  • The Brewers Association adds a new style to its guidelines: the Italian-style pilsner.
  • We break down the price of a beer at every NBA arena, with Boston taking the top (and most absurd) spot at over $20.

Batch309: Another Day, Another Beer Festival!22 Jun 202200:39:57
It’s a conspiracy! Greg’s wife Shannon stops by to talk about awkward beer festivals, where to get drunk at Disney World, Boozin’ on a Budget, free beer at theme parks, and really gross canned cocktails.

Everyone is sipping on A Conspiracy of Lemurs, a fruited sour from Tripping Animals Brewing.

New listener Thomas is getting his craft beer education thanks to Flex. Listener Andrew needs to know where to drink at Disney World. Greg and Shannon go to Institution’s Tacky Tiki Party, and someone runs into an ex. What’s your most awkward beer fest moment?

Frankie G calls in, and he’s upset about our lack of Boozin’ on a Budget.

Ready-to-drink cocktails are starting to leave hard seltzers in the dust, but canned mimosas are horrible. There’s a new trade group representing non-alcoholic adult beverages, but why? Beer sales are bouncing back from the pandemic. A group of theme parks are giving away free beer for the summer; we’ve got the list! And the top Milkshake IPAs of 2022 (so far).

Batch308: Beer Friends, Beer Fests, and Beer Trips15 Jun 202200:38:04
Beer friends are the best friends. Greg convinces his wife Shannon to crash the party with Flex to discuss their road trip to Firestone Walker’s Invitational Beer Festival. They also talk about dangerous hot sauce, pre-gaming, drive-thru liquor stores, sad news in the brewery world, and a list that will truly make Flex mad.

Greg and Shannon are drinking Primal Elements, a sour wild ale from Firestone Walker. Flex is sipping on Walkabout, a fruited sour from Fat Orange Cat.

The couple recants their time at the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest, including some great beer, meeting some beer Instagram friends in real life, the spiciest thing ever, and post-fest BBQs. They also got a VIP trip to There Does Not Exist and checked out Wild Fields Brewing.

We head to New Orleans for semi-legal drinking and driving for this week’s Ludicrous Libation Law.

Modern Times is finally going up for auction this week, but who will pay the steep price? Los Angeles-based Cellador Ales is closing their doors. Eppig Brewing in San Diego is opening a new location. New Belgium to launch an inclusive training program. And a top 5 list that is seltzer heavy.

Batch 307: Built Beer Tough08 Jun 202200:27:05
We are built beer tough! Deb is back with Flex and Greg to complete the Dream Team. They’re talking about some classic pale ales, smuggling alcohol across state lines, beer prices, and some old-school beers that have survived.

Greg and Deb kick off summer by drinking Mirror Pond pale ale from Deschutes Brewery. Their bullpen beer is Tramping % Trailing from Casa Agria in Oxnard, CA.

The team has an important question for all the listeners about our theme song. Greg runs down the top 15 pale ales of 2022; is your favorite on the list? Andrew writes in about his experience getting sick at Disney World; it must be a trend.

Chew Your Beer calls in and leaves a voicemail about beer festivals, pozole, and Flex messing up.

Illinois doesn’t want you to bring booze into their state.

In these times of inflation and rising costs, one brewery vows to keep prices low. We break down the best old-school beers that are still around today. And a Florida mother gets wayyyy too drunk and forgets her kid at the T Rex Café.
