Hitherto the last episode - The violent gunfight in the Arlian suburbs had the police en route, Radar and Vee attempted to relocate the gang car, scoop up Ryder's family and all their equipment and flee the scene. But an earlier mistake surrounding the refinement process of Thasterite, meant that Radar's Runabout was now grounded. The fuzz arrives and secures the area, but not before Vee hops over 17 garden fences and drives away in the stolen gang car, temporarily evading the cops and getting more exercise in a single minute than they do in an entire month. Radar is left to face the music with Tabitha and Mel, who give their statements to a police detective, before getting seen to by the paramedics and left to sweep up the shattered remains of the broken home. Vee eventually returns under the guise of a 'friend of the family', but the mood in the house that evening is icy cold. Tabitha and Mel shout and argue at each other while Vee takes nightwatch, but no one gets much rest, that night. There's no peace for the crew as the following morning, a small, blind Ysoki figure in a crimson hood leaves a parcel on Stanley's bonnet, before vanishing in an instant. The parcel is an ultimatum from someone calling himself 'The Butcher', insisting that Ryder has been captured, and demanding that they all meet on the outskirts of the city to discuss terms. To back up the threats, Butcher has sent a bloody bandage containing an otter's pinky finger ... and it sure does look an awful lot like one of Ryder's. Vee remains skeptical, but the letter also states that another bodypart will be mailed to the Maxim family in less than an hour ...

On the previous episode - One of the Obscura Cabal's taskmasters, Gomez; had been sent to kidnap Ryder's family, and Radar answered by opening fire with his rifle at point blank. War had been brought to the Maxim household, turning Roseburrough Avenue from a sleepy suburb into a scarred battlefield. As the bullets began to fly, Radar, Vee, Tabitha, Talesin and Dez the Thastertoad all played their part in defending the house from the Ysoki thugs. Vee barricaded the front door, forcing Gomez to take drastic action. She ordered the deployment a turret-mounted machinegun on top of the truck they arrived in and it opened fire on the house. Radar tried to distract the turret gunner by charging towards it across open ground with no cover ... with predictable results. After Mel calls the police, Gomez and her crew beat a hasty retreat, chased out of the neighboorhood by Vee and a gravely wounded Radar. But with first response en route and the bodyguards having a less-than-squeaky-clean record with the local authorities, they will now have to come up with a new defensive strategy on-the-fly, for how to protect Ryder's (deeply shaken) family.

Last time, Vee was contacted by Ryder, whose operation against the Obscura Cabal was a bit less 'scalpel' and a bit more ... 'sledgehammer'. She confessed to crashing the freighter into an industrial warehouse a day earlier, trying to explain that she had to think fast, targeting it at the mob boss's penthouse before bailing out - but the damaged autopilot steered the ship off-course. Ryder also explained that the ship she had been contracted by the Cabal to steal, was packed with guns, missiles and strange high-tech robotic suits. Enough to start an insurrection, or a coup. However, Ryder managed to ditch the cargo containers in high atmosphere, trying to scupper whatever the Cabal was planning. But she may have involved herself, and by extension, her family and the Laika-7 crew, in something far more deadly than simply defecting from her old gang. After Vee and Tabitha visit the local chemist to get more of Tabitha's breathing medicine and Radar spends some time upgrading Talesin, the Obscura Cabal sends their A-game to collect Ryder's insurance. The Taskmaster known as Gomez drove up in an armored truck and approached the house, accompanied by a team of Ysoki thugs. Vee attempted to bluff their way out of the engagement, but Radar, not being one for subtlety, pushed Vee out of the way with his rifle drawn and pulled the trigger on Gomez.

Not but one episode ago, the Maxim family and their bodyguards were making their way back from the Hivemarket, just before Radar spotted a pillar of smoke rising from somewhere on the Arlian Plateau. Local news doesn't seem to have caught up with the event, but border control back into Arl doesn't seem to have been affected. After parking up back at home, Tabitha and Mel make their way to their local swim exercise class, whilst Vee and Radar watch on. Not too long into the class, the bodyguards notice 2 suspicious Ysoki arrive at the community center, whispering to one another as they shadow Tabitha and her partner. Radar is quick to react, swooping in and attempting to force them to leave under the guise of security, but subterfuge was never the Jumalten's strongpoint and a scuffle soon errupts. Not wanting to start a fight in front of the nice old ladies aquarobics class, Radar drags the 2 mooks into a nearby changing room and is quickly involved in a brawl. Vee joins in shortly afterwards and the 2 Ysoki thugs are quickly overwhelmed and beaten down, giving up information in exchange for their lives. They say that their taskmaster is someone named 'Gomez', and they had been instructed by the Cabal to pick up Ryder's mother to act as insurance. It would appear Ryder's plan has already begun. That evening, Radar and Vee watch the news and see that the earlier fire was caused by a massive uncrewed transport freighter crashing into an industrial warehouse, putting the city into a temporary lockdown. Asides from the panic and terror in the center of the capital, the suburbs remain quiet and tranquil. But the first stone has been cast, now. And things are about to get a whole lot louder ...

Showdown at the Maxim Household : Western - QubeSounds

Tabitha, Mel and the two Laika-7 bodyguards spent their morning at a giant, bustling marketplace out in the Akitonian desert - simply known as the Hivemarket. Ryder's mum and her partner went shopping for provisions. Keeping an eye on Tabs and Mel from a distance, Radar is accosted by a small fennec girl, asking for help with her father's strategy boardgame. Radar is surprised to see a very familiar looking game, similar to chess, and was able to win against the opponent based on knowledge, based on knowledge from his life pre-gap. As a reward for winning, the Jumalten coyote is gifted one of his opponent's playing pieces as a memento. Then, Vee spotted a local arms dealer within the market and the two mercenaries were able to haggle for parts and equipment to defend the house, as well as a new melee weapon for Radar. On their way out of the market, the group also encountered a victim of the vile narcotic known as Red Velvet. A blind, emaciated beggar ... who somehow knew Radar's species, despite not having any eyes, or prior knowledge of the functionally extinct Jumalten Empire ... We now rejoin the Maxim family and their bodyguards as the runabout cruises back towards the capital.

On the last episode - Radar and Vee had made it through Alrian border control with their weapons. They met up in the fake plastic suburbia where Ryder's mother and her partner live. The crew lied (awkwardly) about why Ryder was absent. She was dispatching members of the Azlanti Empire while Radar and Vee had been sent to act as bodyguards. And once this has all blown over, Ryder would meet up with the group. Sounds legit...? Tabitha was confused, but ultimately happy to meet up with her daughter's crew. Mel seems much more guarded about the heavily armed mercenaries taking up residence in her partner's home, but ultimately decides this is for her own protection. Radar also received an answering machine message from someone named Harry Beuler, asking what time Ryder is going to be back at work; which Radar found very suspicious. Regardless, the group settle down, enjoy a lovely spot of tea and Ryder puts her side of the plan into action. But it's only a matter of time now, before the gang realizes she's gone AWOL and retaliates...

Previously, the crew landed at Arl spaceport ... well, one of them did. Radar took the Runabout out into the deep desert, carrying the group's heavy weaponry. Vee landed the Laika at the spaceport and was greeted by Nasiim Hernandez. Vee managed to convince Nasiim that the dummy duplicates of their weapons were the real deal and secured them in the Laika's cargo hold. Vee also learned that there are multiple gangs operating in Arl, pushing a dangerous narcotic called 'red velvet'. The broken economy of this place seems to be the circulation of drugs flowing out of the city and guns flooding in! Meanwhile, Radar experienced engine trouble and had to make a pitstop at a local fuel station. Radar learned that the sands of Akiton hide a secret. The seem to drain the energy out of his ship's reactor, but in turn, they have a unique power source all of their own. Not quite understanding how this worked, he scooped up a bunch of sand, dumped it into one of the runabout's fuel cells and made his way to the Arlian Plateau. Ground-based border control didn't seem to be as intense, and Radar enters the city to meet up with Vee at 32 Roseburrough Avenue - the home of Ryder's mum and her partner...

Last time, Ryder made contact with the crew and revealed her plight. Radar and Vee eventually settle on a plan to protect Ryder's mother, Tabitha, and blame their presence (and Ryder's absence) on the Azlanti. But they'll need to be visible in order to action their plan - Bodyguard style! The crew headed to Akiton and were confronted with a world very different from how it looked in the brochure. As part of a city-wide demilitarization process, Arl's government is enforcing strict gun control laws and our heavily-armed mercenaries were immediately clocked by orbital border control. Radar and Vee quickly engineered dummy duplicates of the offending weaponry, shortly before Radar jumped into the runabout with the real guns and detached from the Laika-7 in high atmosphere. With Radar flying out into the deep desert, Vee lands in the capital city ... alone.

On the last episode, the crew were enjoying a profitable evening at the bar when Ryder dashed away in a panic. Radar and Vee discover that Ryder is being blackmailed. Ryder later confirms this in an encrypted message to Radar, revealing that she used to belong to an Arlian streetgang called the Obscura Cabal. She and her mother lost contact with the gang when Ryder went to operative accademy, but the gang have rediscovered Ryder and are demanding her services once again; threatening her family if she doesn't comply! Ryder has a plan to escape the clutches of the Cabal once and for all, but she can't be in two places at once and pleads for the crew's help, asking them to protect her mother while Ryder takes care of business. Vee and Radar start hatching plans (that mostly consist of plots, non-sequiturs and terrorism) for how they should proceed...

Last time, Secretary Azdriah had tasked Radar and Ryder with destroying a stolen weather device. The device was onboard a damaged mercenary ship working for the Azlanti, known as the Fortune Limeri. Having tracked the ship down, the Laika-7 pounces with guns blazing and shoots the ship down on a small frozen planetoid with a ship refuelling depot. The crew decide to investigate the remains and after parking up alongside the crash site, Radar scopes out the ship hulk on foot. He finds it abandoned, with the weather device activated. Later, he learns that the device has gone into overdrive and is beginning to terraform the icy planetoid underneath it, melting the ice and exposing the crumbling nuclear waste silos that were hidden underground. Meanwhile, Ryder remains on the Laika-7 and is ambushed by the Fortune Limeri's former crew! She manages to get the drop on them, but as the radiation claxons start blaring, it seems everyone's day just got a whole lot worse...

This week, we're back to Vesk Don't Wear Ties! Yay!

In the last episode of VDWT - Ryder and Radar adopted their pseudonyms and fraudulently brokered a deal to purchase Vesk war drones. They checked out of their hotel room and made their way to the Laika-7 to pick up their ill-gotten cargo and fly home, but no sooner had they landed in the collections bay, the crew's paranoia began to kick in. Suddenly, Ryder realises they've been caught in a trap, set by the chief of the Vesk secret police - Secretary Azdriah. He watches from a distance as the very war drones the crew had purchased were set upon the Laika, quickly disabling its' engines before the crew could make their escape. As a last ditch gambit, Ryder threatened to fire one of the Laika's nuclear weapons point-blank at the secretary, bringing the situation to a tense stalemate. Azdriah saw utility in the crew and agreed to cease hostilities if they did him 'a favor'. He promised to let them go free, repair the Laika and even let them keep the drones they planned to steal. All the crew needs to do is clean up a mess that the Vesk don't wish to be seen cleaning up themselves - The elimination of some Azlanti affiliated mercenaries who have stolen a weather manipulation device. Not being the trusting kind, Azdriah decided to take Vee's unconcious body off the ship and hold them on the Veskarium as collateral insurance. Radar also manages to strike a deal with the secretary to give them as much information the Veskarium has on the White Ladder organization. Rearmed, re-equiped and with engines reignited, the Laika-7 hurtles off into the void to chase down the Fortune Limeri...
