Our guest this episode of the Cork & Taylor Wine Podcast was born with a wineglass in his hand, and that is the truth you could say as Hugh was born in 1965, the same year that his parents, Jack and Jamie Davies, purchased the abandoned Schramsberg Estate in Calistoga. Hugh grew up among the vines, caves, tanks and barrels that make Schramsberg Vineyards what it is today: the premier producer of American sparkling wines. We had a great time sitting down talking wine with Hugh Davies and tasting the some Schramberg sparkling wines too.

This week, we venture to one of my favorite wineries ever. I love Larkmead and have been a huge fan since the first time I tried it 15 years ago. We are very fortunate to welcome Larkmead's winemaker, Avery Heeland. She joined the Larkmead Vineyards team in July 2019 after positions as Cellar Master at Screaming Eagle Vineyards in Napa, Vintage Assistant Winemaker Domaine Yves Boyer Martenot in Meursault, France, and as a Vintage Enologist at Capel Vale Winery in Western Australia. Heelan holds an M.S. in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry, with a specialization in Viticulture & Enology from the University of California, Davis.

We are back after our two week hiatus and we welcome Yoav Gilat of Cannonball and Angels & Cowboys Fame. Yoav launched Cannonball Wines with 20 + years of diverse experience in consumer goods & beverages. Born and raised in Israel, Yoav moved to the UK in 1994 & studied Law at the University of Kent. Following graduation, Yoav practiced law for three years before moving on to Tymco Beer Ltd., where he managed business development for brands including; Red Bull, Corona, Beringer, Masi, Fonseca, Planeta & others. Yoav then pursued his MBA at Columbia Business School & Haas School of Business/Berkeley & further deepened his industry experience by providing strategy & marketing services to Constellation with their brands; Blackstone Winery & The Campari Group – SKYY Vodka. Today, Yoav oversees all day-to-day operations as well as the company’s distributor & international sales networks in over 60 markets. True to the Cannonball spirit, Yoav is a professional scuba diver & Cabernet is his “go-to” varietal. Very insightful to say the least!

What does Beringer White Zinfandel and Luke Taylor have in common? One of the only White Zins I tried back in the day when I visited Beringer and it wasn't too bad plus no need to brush the sugar off your teeth after consuming. This Napa winery is old like really old and haven't had their wines in forever...they were yummy!
