Ep #63 Something Ventured, Something Gained: When Upsetting Events Take Over22 Jul 202400:47:46

In today's episode, Andee's answering a question from a listener who wrote in asking about the right time to address off-track behavior or big emotions, and whether it's effective to teach during meltdowns. We explore this topic by breaking down the importance of timing, emotional readiness, and the developmental stages of children.

Key insights include:

  • Allowing 24 hours for emotions to cool down before addressing off-track behavior.
  • The significance of a working relationship with your child before setting limits.
  • Balancing firmness with compassion to create a safe and trusting environment.
  • Using questions to self-reflect and prepare for meaningful conversations.

We also discuss the importance of not being attached to specific outcomes and focusing on what your child needs to feel supported and understood. By shifting from a mindset of control to one of connection, you can create lasting positive changes in your child's behavior and your relationship with them.

Ep #53 Three Vital Parenting Decisions Pt 319 Jun 202400:53:55

Happy Wednesday! Today, we conclude the 3 Vital Parenting Decisions Series. If you haven’t listened to the episodes from Monday and Tuesday, check those out first because they lay the groundwork for today’s discussion.

Today's Focus: Practicing extreme self-compassion. It’s essential. My coach emphasized the importance of being gentle and loving towards myself, even when I felt I had failed. This approach transformed my ability to connect deeply with my children.

Self-compassion prevents us from slipping into survival mode, which can lead to negative reactions and disconnection. By practicing self-compassion, we foster a peaceful, connected family environment.

Key Points from the Workshop:

  • Day 1: Stop energizing off-track behavior with punishments and rewards.
  • Day 2: Proactively connect with your kids to create lasting bonds.
  • Day 3: Practice extreme self-compassion to support personal growth and deeper connections.

Practical Steps:

  1. Redefine mistakes as growth opportunities.
  2. Welcome all emotions as part of the human experience.
  3. Practice the "SOS" method:
    • Stop: Be present and aware of your thoughts and feelings.
    • Open: Approach your thoughts with curiosity and compassion.
    • Stay: Stay with your emotions long enough to process them.

Ep #52 Three Vital Parenting Decisions Pt 218 Jun 202401:07:26

Welcome back to day two of the Connect Method Parenting workshop - 3 Vital Decisions! If you listened yesterday, you’ll remember we introduced the concept of stopping the negative energizing of off-track behavior. Today, we build on that foundation with the second decision: committing to using connection as your primary parenting tool.

Stop Negative Energizing: Refrain from using punishments, rewards, and ultimatums as your primary tools. Understand that these methods often fail to address the root cause of off-track behavior.

Commit to Connection: Make a conscious decision to use connection, relationship, and attachment as your primary parenting strategies. This involves showing compassion and empathy in every situation, prioritizing the relationship over external opinions, and believing in the inherent goodness of your child.

Proactive Connection: Shift from reactive to proactive connection. Show up energetically and positively, not just when things go wrong but also when everything is going smoothly.

Creating a Habit: Understand that this approach creates a habit and a culture of connection, leading to long-term positive changes in your child's behavior and your relationship with them.

We discussed how to set limits with compassion and empathy using a step-by-step approach:

  1. Slow Down: Pause and assess the situation without rushing into default reactions.
  2. See Them First: Make eye contact and ensure your child is responsive before setting any limits.
  3. Set the Limit: Use simple, clear language to set the limit (e.g., "I can't let you jump on the couch").
  4. Stay with Them: Ensure they feel supported and understood, even if you need to step away momentarily.

Today's Assignment: Engage in one-on-one connection time with your child. Let them pick the activity, and commit to spending 5-15 minutes fully engaged and present. Put away your phone and be genuinely excited about the time you spend together. This practice helps build a strong, positive connection that will serve as the foundation for your relationship.

Join us tomorrow as we continue to build on these principles and explore more ways to foster a deep, connective relationship with your child.

Ep #44 CMP Book Club - Chapter 723 May 202400:32:54

There are five ingredients you'll need to create the life you want.

  • Situations
  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Actions
  • Results

Your job is to understand how each of these works. Then, put them together intentionally. Don’t complicate it. What thoughts are you thinking? What emotions are you feeling? What actions are you taking or not taking? That is why you have the results you have. Pay attention. Take responsibility. Stop blaming and complaining. Repeat.

Ep #31: “CMP is the only thing that actually worked.” - League Member, Mary’s Journey to Parenting Success 08 Apr 202400:50:07

🔥 “CMP is the only thing that has actually worked, and I’ve tried everything. I had read over 40 parenting books when I found Connect Method Parenting.” -Mary

Today, we’re sliding into your earbuds with a story that will make you rethink everything you thought was set in stone about wrangling your kiddos.

Enter Mary. Six kids deep, including two sets of tireless twins, and a living testament to the “I survived and thrived” mantra thanks to a little magic we like to call Connect Method Parenting (CMP).

“Blew my mind,” she’d tell you if you asked how CMP turned her daily chaos into something resembling peace. And not the eerie calm before the storm kind, but genuine, “Wow, we can actually do this” peace.

Mary’s been where you are – juggling the wilds of child psychology, shuffling through parenting styles like a Vegas dealer, and sprinkling positive discipline like fairy dust. All while aiming for that elusive clean home unicorn.

Now, she’s spilling the beans on how she went from “Why won’t you listen?!” to “We’re actually communicating!”

Think of it as your behind-the-scenes pass inside the home of a CMP Parent. Mary’s living proof that the CMP cape fits those who dare to wear it.

🚀 So, what’s the deal with CMP?

Imagine if you could swap out your everyday parenting tools with something out of a high-tech, high-touch toolbox. That’s CMP in a nutshell. It’s about connection over correction, dialogue over demands.

And here’s the kicker – it works. Like, “Holy crap, I can’t believe this is my life now” works.

Tune in, laugh, learn, and maybe, just maybe, start believing in parenting magic again.
